When you click the Update Cart button it just updates the cart page it's on, but when you click the Shop More button it links to Shop.aspx a different page, and the Checkout links to another page as well. I can't figure out how it is linking just from that code, anybody have any insights?

• Routing Error in Chapter 7.1.2 of the Ruby on Rails Tutorial

  I've been working through the tutorial for the past few days, and finally hit a snag in chapter 7. It is in this step where the line in routes.rb: get "users/new" is replaced with resource :users After I do this, I get a routing error when visiting http://localhost:3000/users/1 - No route matches [GET] "/users/1" instead of the other "Unknown Action" error shown here.   Hi, I'm interested in web development and by that I mean the bigger projects like facebook or twitter. I know the basics of java, css, php and mysql. I know there is a lot more out there. I read about it. But I don't know what the purpose is and how to put in place. Things like: Scribe, thrift, casandra, Unix/Linux, shell/perl/python scripting, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, non-relational NoSQL datastores, JVM, nginx I want to know why they need it, how they use it and what te purpose is. What I need is a book like technical background of facebook for dummies or so. Are there any books or websites that explain this from scratch? Thank you!

• Treeview Slow in IE?!?!

  I have a treeview with around 200 records that needs to be fully expanded at all times (so no loading on demand). It is inside of an update panel with the updatemode set to conditional. There are other update panels on the page as well that are set to conditional. Depending on user actions the tree may need to be rebuilt by calling databind and updating the updatepanel. Everything works fine in firefox, longest postback about 2 seconds. With IE I have to wait up to 30 seconds sometimes and the action may have nothing to do with the tree just changing a dropdown in its own updatepanel takes forever. I have considered the size of viewstate and just raw HTML generated may be causing the delay but wouldn't that effect both browsers? Anyone have anyideas what is making it so slow in IE??? Thanks!

• changing window.location without triggering refresh

  I have an AJAX form that submits GET requests. Because these are all GET requests these should be easily bookmark-able. Preferably I'd make my Ajax request, update the screen and then update window.location.href to be the URL for the new page. Unfortunately this reloads the page. Is there any way I can get around this? Basically I'd like the URL bar to be a permalink bar, but it needs to be able to change to keep up with the state of the page. window.location.hash is no good because that doesn't get sent to the server.

  I have a before_save method that I call that renames an uploaded image. before_save :randomize_file_name def randomize_file_name extension = File.extname(screen_file_name).downcase key = ActiveSupport::SecureRandom.hex(8) self.screen.instance_write(:file_name, "#{key}#{extension}") end That method is part of my Item model. That works great when I create a new item or need to update the image associated with an item...but the problem is that if I need to update an item but NOT the image, the randomize_file_name method still gets run and renames the file in the database (though not the file itself, obviously). So, I'm thinking I need to figure out a way to only run randomize_file_name if a file is included in the form submission...but I'm not sure how to pull that off.

• Know if a Visual Studio Website project is recompiling itself in the background?

  A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait. Update: Our team often edit files manually on the dev server. For production we'd make pre-compiled pushes. The dev environment is a little more malleable and ever-changing so I'm looking for a solution to reducing the "confusion" there.

• Fastest way to move records from a oracle DB into MS sql server after processing

  Hi.. Ok this is the scenario...I have a table in Oracle that acts like a queue... A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in MS SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table. We use a datareader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isnt slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. BUt when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second. I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return. Is there a better way of doing this?   Hello, is there a way to execute a function that is called thousand of times only once ? I have a function that adds items in a container of sort, and there is code in there, that updates lists and other windows (GUI staff). So, if i have to add a million items (the number of which is impossible to tell, anyone could call the function from anywhere), the GUI update mechanism will be called as many as times... Is there a way to tell appart continuous function execution (and ignore it) from discontinuous ? Is there a safe way to execute the update mechanism only the last time the add-item function is called, within a time interval ? Thank you.

• BlackBerry OS 7.1 secured TLS connection is closed after very short time

  To make a long story short: Same client-server configuration, same network topology, same device (Bold 9900) - works perfectly well on OS 7.0 but doesn't work as expected on OS 7.1 and the secured tls connection is being closed by the server after a very short time. My application opens a secured tls connection to a server. The connection is kept alive by a application layer keep-alive mechanism and remains open until the client closes it. Attached is a simplified version of the actual code that opens connection and reads from the socket. The code works perfectly on OS 5.0-7.0 but doesn't work as expected on OS 7.1. When running on OS 7.1, the blocking read() returns with -1 (end of the stream has been reached) after very short time (10-45 seconds). For OS 5.0-7.0 the call to read() remains blocking until next data arrives and the connection is never closed by the server. Connection connection = Connector.open(connectionString); connInputStream = connection.openInputStream(); while (true) { try { retVal = connInputStream.read(); if (-1 == retVal) { break; // end of stream has been reached } } catch (Exception e ) { // do error handling } // data read from stream is handled here } UPDATE 1: Apparently, the problem appears only when I use secured tls connection (either using mobile network or WiFi) on OS 7.1. Everything works as expected when opening a non secured connection on OS 7.1. For tls on mobile networks I use the following connection string: connectionString = "tls://someipaddress:443;deviceside=false;ConnectionType=mds-public;EndToEndDesired"; For tls on Wifi I use the following connection string: connectionString = "tls://someipaddress:443;deviceside=true;interface=wifi;EndToEndRequired" UPDATE 2: The connection is never idle. I am constantly receiving and sending data on it. The issue appears both when using mobile connection and WiFi. The issue appears both on real OS 7.1 devices and simulators. I am starting to suspect that it is somehow related either to the connection string I am using or to the tls handshake. UPDATE 3: According to Wireshark's captures that I made with the OS 7.1 simulator, the secured tls connection is being closed by the server (client receives FIN). For the moment I don't have the server's private key therefore I unable to debug the tls handshake.

Been looking at this for a while and best attempt is: UPDATE TestTable SET XmlColumn.modify( ' replace value of (/Customizations/Customization/@name[.="Year"]/value)[1] with ( "2010" ) ') Can someone help point out where I'm going wrong?

  Hi, I am trying to write an SQL query to update some of the attributes that are regularly pulled from source. the output will be a text file with the following fields: author, title, date, popularity I have two tables to update one is the author information and the other is popularity table. And the Author Active Record object has one popularity. Currently I'm doing it like this.\ arr.each { |x| x = x.split(" ") results = Author.find_by_sql("SELECT authors.id FROM authors, priorities WHERE authors.id=popularity.authors_id AND authors.author = x[0]") results[0].popularity.update_attribute("popularity", x[3]) I need two tables because the popularity keeps changing, and I need only the top 1000 popular ones, but I still need to keep the previously popular ones also. Is there any nicer way to do this, instead of one query for every new object. Thanks.

  Hallo all, I have a ListView, which contains an EditText in each of it's row. I also have an Array.The length of the Array==the Nr of the rows in the ListView. I want to store the user input (the text in the EditText) to the Arrray. E.g, if i type some text in the EditText in the first row of the ListView, i want the text to be stored in Array[0]. But how can i detect to which row the EditText belongs to? I can detect the possition of the row if the row contains a RadioGroup, but not a EditText. What if i first type some text in the EditText and sometime later i want to update mein Input? How can i update it? Thanks a lot!

• frequent updates of a Tomcat application

  I have an application that runs on a Tomcat 7 server on a Windows machine. In its current stage, I have to frequently update and fix it. Whenever I need to update the application, I do all this: Build a new war file; Go to the Windows server, stop the Tomcat service; download the file, put it under webapps; Remove the old application folder under webapps; Remove the old application folder under work/Catalina/localhost (otherwise it keeps the old version cached). Restart the Tomcat service. I am sure there is a way to do all this automatically. What is it?
