  • How messengers (IM) works (listening) ?

    - by Panda
My task is to write a Messenger program for both internal and external staffs, I actually made it. However, I thing this is really not a good approach by using the client software keep "check-mesg" from server. So I think I am just simulating the IM program. I want to make the client app become a listening server, and let user p2p talking without a "mesg-centre" at the main server(unless offline mesg happen). The question is how do I tell the external user ( other client app ) my location while I am behind a router ? Are those other IM programs running on the client machine as a server too? and how do they get through ? Thanks in advance!

  • Pidgin To Shoretel Call Manager IM

    - by ocatenac
Is anyone out there using Pidgin to connect with Shoretel's Instant Messaging? Shoretel 9.2. According to one of the docs I found on Shoretel's website, it should be connecting as a SIMPLE client but so far no dice. It keeps getting an error resolving the server. There's no proxy involved that I know of. I was just wondering if anyone else had this particular configuration and if they'd made it work correctly.

  • Is Jabber the same thing as XMPP?

    - by Atomiton
I find conflcting information on this subject. Are they the same thing? I've read that Jabber is "based" on XMPP. For example: The chat client "Pidgin" has a box for XMPP but seemingly not for Jabber. Yet, it seems to support it. What's the difference between XMPP and Jabber?

  • Traceroute to IP address fails, but traceroute to domain name with same IP address is okay. Why?

When I traceroute to this IP (108.162.198.181) it stops after 1 hop. • Windows 7 - all usb devices go to sleep im idle mode

    - by dvdx
A strange thing happened after a few updates to the system: Intel rapid storage SSD firmware update Intel Ethernet adapter update GPU Intel update When the computer turns off the screen (after 5 min), an unknown time later, all the USB devices stop working. Sound card Mouse Keybord etc. I can't turn them back on, so I can't wake up the screen or do anything except turn the computer off and back on. I checked my power save profile and all is OK there. I changed in the Device Manager, the Allow USB to sleep in all the hubs. How can I fix this??

  • Choosing approach for an IM client-server app

    - by John
Update: totally re-wrote this to be more succint. I'm looking at a new application, one part of which will be very similar to standard IM clients, i.e text chat, ability to send attachments, maybe some real-time interaction like a multi-user whiteboard. It will be client-server, i.e all traffic goes through my central server. That means if I want to support cross-communication with other IM systems, I am still free to pick any protocol for my own client<--server communication - my server can use XMPP or whatever to talk to other systems. Clients are expected to include desktop apps, but probably also browser-based as well either through Flex/Silverlight or HTML/AJAX. I see 3 options for my own client-server communication layer: XMPP. The benefits are clients already exist as do open-source servers. However it requires the most up-front research/learning and also appears like it might raise legal issues due to GPL. Custom sockets. A server app makes connections with the clients, allowing any text/binary data to be sent very fast. However this approach requires building said server from scratch, and also makes a JS client tricky Servlets (or similar web server). Using tried and tested Java web-stack, clients send HTTP requests similar to AJAX-based websites. The benefit is the server is easy to write using well-established technologies, and easy to talk to. But what restrictions would this bring? Is it appropriate technology for real-time communication? Advice and suggests are welcome, especially what pros and cons surround using a web-server approach as compared to a socket-based approach.

  • ASA5505 Novice. Setting up Outside/Inside/and DMZ as Guest Network

    - by GriffJ
I need a little help in developing a config for our ASA5505. I'm an MCSA/MCITPAS but I don't have a lot of practical cisco experience. Here is what I need help with, we currently have a PIX as our boarder gateway and well it's antiquated and it only has a 50 user license which means I'm constantly clearing local-host throughout the day as people complain. I discovered that the last IT person bought at couple ASA5505s and they've been sitting in the back of a cupboard. So far I've duplicated the configuration from the pix to the asa but as I was going to be going this far I thought I'd go further and remove another old cisco router that was used only for the guest network, I know the asa can do both jobs. So I'm going to paste a scenario I wrote up with the actual IPs changed to protect the innocent. ... Outside Network: 1.2.3.10 255.255.255.248 (we have a /29) Inside Network: 10.10.36.0 255.255.252.0 DMZ Network: 192.168.15.0 255.255.255.0 Outside Network on e0/0 DMZ Network on e0/1 Inside Network on e0/2-7 DMZ Network has DHCPD Enabled. Inside Network has NO DHCPD. (dhcp is handled by domain controller) Inside Network needs to be able to see anything on the DMZ network. - by arheops
i have centos 6 with openvz installed on it, switch with vlan support. I need following setup: 1) eth0 on openvz have be tagged multiple vlans. 2) each virtualhost have to be in single vlan. yes,i already read wiki on openvz, but it is just not work. I have on main server interface eth0.108 and able ping address on that interface(using nootbook on untagged port vlan 108), but i not able ping address inside container. • Unicenter Software Delivery 4 not able to connect to MS SQL 2000 Database after W2003 SP2 upgrade

    - by grub
    Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database. The Unicenter service throws the following error messages during startup: IM[1] 27/05 10:38:31,272 Installation Manager in init phase IM[1] 27/05 10:38:31,694 Process IM(L) - [004152] failed to open database SDDATA. dbopen() call failed. Below you can find more detailed information about the system and the SDO service. psinfo output (system information) System information for \\CZZAAS1003: Uptime: 0 days 14 hours 38 minutes 50 seconds Kernel version: Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Multiprocessor Free Product type: Standard Edition Product version: 5.2 Service pack: 2 Kernel build number: 3790 Install date: 23.9.2004, 11:16:11s IE version: 6.0000 System root: C:\WINDOWS Processors: 2 Processor speed: 2.3 GHz Processor type: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU Physical memory: 1024 MB Video driver: RAGE XL PCI Family (Microsoft Corporation) sdver output (Unicenter Software delivery version) Unicenter Software Delivery 4.0 SP1 I2 ENU [2901] Copyright 2004 Computer Associates International, Incorporated ms sql 2000 version and odbc driver version MS SQL 2000 Server Standard Edition Product Version: 8.00.760 (SP3) ODBC Driver: SQL Server - Version 2000.86.3959.00 complete Unicenter Software delivery service log file TRIGGER[1] 27/05 10:38:28,366 SD Trigger Agent has started NATF[1] 27/05 10:38:28,928 Initiation phase finished IM[1] 27/05 10:38:31,272 Installation Manager in init phase IM[1] 27/05 10:38:31,694 Process IM(L) - [004152] failed to open database SDDATA. dbopen() call failed.     Having checked my Apache logs for the last two days I have noticed several attempts to access URLs such as /phpmyadmin, /phpldapadmin: 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:35 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.blackhats.romanian.anti-sec:) HTTP/1.1" 404 415 "-" "ZmEu" 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:35 +0100] "GET /phpMyAdmin/scripts/setup.php HTTP/1.1" 404 405 "-" "ZmEu" 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:35 +0100] "GET /phpmyadmin/scripts/setup.php HTTP/1.1" 404 404 "-" "ZmEu" 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:36 +0100] "GET /pma/scripts/setup.php HTTP/1.1" 404 399 "-" "ZmEu" 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:36 +0100] "GET /myadmin/scripts/setup.php HTTP/1.1" 404 403 "-" "ZmEu" 121.14.241.135 - - [09/Jun/2012:04:37:37 +0100] "GET /MyAdmin/scripts/setup.php HTTP/1.1" 404 403 "-" "ZmEu" 66.249.72.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:07:11:06 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 404 430 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" 66.249.72.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:07:11:06 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" 188.132.178.34 - - [09/Jun/2012:08:39:05 +0100] "HEAD /manager/html HTTP/1.0" 404 166 "-" "-" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:09 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 404 432 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:09 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 404 432 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:10 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:10 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:11 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 95.108.150.235 - - [09/Jun/2012:09:42:11 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexBot/3.0; +http://yandex.com/bots)" 194.128.132.2 - - [09/Jun/2012:16:04:41 +0100] "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" 200 260 "-" "-" 66.249.68.176 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:08:12 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 404 430 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" 66.249.68.176 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:08:13 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:33 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 388 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:34 +0100] "GET /phpldapadmin/ HTTP/1.1" 404 379 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:34 +0100] "GET /phpldapadmin/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 386 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:35 +0100] "GET /phpldap/ HTTP/1.1" 404 374 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:36 +0100] "GET /phpldap/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 381 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:36 +0100] "GET /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 404 372 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:38 +0100] "GET /admin/ldap/ HTTP/1.1" 404 377 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:38 +0100] "GET /admin/ldap/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 384 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:38 +0100] "GET /admin/phpldap/ HTTP/1.1" 404 380 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:39 +0100] "GET /admin/phpldap/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 387 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:39 +0100] "GET /admin/phpldapadmin/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 392 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:40 +0100] "GET /admin/phpldapadmin/ HTTP/1.1" 404 385 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:40 +0100] "GET /openldap HTTP/1.1" 404 374 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:41 +0100] "GET /openldap/htdocs HTTP/1.1" 404 381 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:42 +0100] "GET /openldap/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 382 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:44 +0100] "GET /ldap/ HTTP/1.1" 404 371 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:44 +0100] "GET /ldap/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 378 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:45 +0100] "GET /ldap/phpldapadmin/ HTTP/1.1" 404 384 "-" "-" 212.3.106.249 - - [09/Jun/2012:18:12:46 +0100] "GET /ldap/phpldapadmin/htdocs/ HTTP/1.1" 404 391 "-" "-" Is there any way I can use Fail2Ban or any other similar software to ban these IPs in situations when my server is being abused this way (by trying several "common" URLs)?

  • How to send an IM in C or C++ on Windows

    - by dave9909
Specifically I am talking about using AIM and sending instant messages to an existing AIM screename. How would I accomplish this? I am trying to do it the simplest way possible -efficiency is not that important. I thought maybe all I would have to do is open a socket connections some how but I am probably wrong.

  • im having problems accessing my core files/folders..

    - by Jessy Draves
I'm wanting to build a video page that is similar to my product pages. But using different categories. I also put the videos on my product pages but I want to build a separate video page and link them all together.. I have almost 200 videos that i want my customers to be able to easily navigate through (like thumbnails). I also think that this will help my internal link structure. And my customers will be on my website longer.. Any suggestions??

  • GoTo statements, and alternatives (help me please im new) (VB.net)

    - by qais
Basically I posted a code snippet on a forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practise so I'm just wondering, why is it bad? And also what alternative is there to use, like for example in this program ive done for homework the user has to input their date of birth and if the month/date/year are invalid or unrealistic(using if statements checking the integer inputs size, if theres any better way to do this i'd appreciate if you could tell me that also :D) then how would i be able to loop back to ask them again? heres a little extract of my code retryday: Console.WriteLine("Please enter the day you were born : ") day = Console.ReadLine If day > 31 Or day < 1 Then Console.WriteLine("Please enter a valid day") GoTo retryday End If

  • Im Stumped, Why is UIImage\Texture2d memory not being freed

    - by howsyourface
I've been looking everywhere trying to find a solution to this problem. Nothing seems to help. I've set up this basic test to try to find the cause of why my memory wasn't being freed up: if (texture != nil) { [texture release]; texture = nil; } else { UIImage* ui = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"image" ofType:@"png"]]; texture = [[Texture2D alloc] initWithImage:ui]; } Now i would place this in the touches began and test by monitoring the memory usage using intstruments at the start (normally 11.5 - 12mb) after the first touch, with no object existing the texture is created and memory jumps to 13.5 - 14 However, after the second touch the memory does decrease, but only to around 12.5 - 13. There is a noticeable chunk of memory still occupied. I tested this on a much larger scale, loading 10 of these large textures at a time The memory jumps to over 30 mb and remains there, but on the second touch after releasing the textures it only falls to around 22mb. I tried the test another time loading the images in with [uiimage imagenamed:] but because of the caching this method performs it just means that the full 30mb remains in memory.

  • Sending and receiving IM messages via controller in Rails

    - by Grnbeagle
Hi, I need a way to handle XMPP communication in my Rails app. My requirements are: Keep an instance of XMPP client running and logged in as one specific user (my bot user) Trigger an event from a controller to send a message and wait for a reply. The message is sent to another machine equipped with a bot so that the reply is supposed to be returned quickly. I installed xmpp4r and backgrounDrb similar to what's described here, but backgrounDrb seems to have evolved and I couldn't get it to wait for a reply. If it has to happen asynchronously, I am willing to use a server-push technology to notify the browser when the reply arrives. To give you a better idea, here are snippets of my code: (In controller) class ServicesController < ApplicationController layout 'simple' def index render :text => "index" end def show @my_service = Service.find(params[:id]) worker = MiddleMan.worker(:jabber_agent_worker) worker.send_request(:arg => {:jid => "someuser@someserver", :cmd => "help"}) render :text => "testing" end end (In worker script) require 'xmpp4r' require 'logger' class JabberAgentWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name :jabber_agent_worker def create(args = nil) jid = Jabber::JID.new('myagent@myserver') @client = Jabber::Client.new(jid) @client.connect @client.auth('pass') @client.send(Jabber::Presence.new.set_show(:chat).set_status('BackgrounDRb')) @client.add_message_callback do |message| logger.info("**** messaged received: #{message}") # never reaches here end end def send_request(args = nil) to_jid = Jabber::JID.new(args[:jid]) message = Jabber::Message::new(to_jid, args[:cmd]).set_type(:normal).set_id('1') @client.send(message) end end If anyone can tell me any of the following, I'd much appreciate it: issue with my backgrounDrb usage other background process alternatives appropriate for XMPP interactions other ways of achieving this Thanks in advance.
