• "Super meatboy"-ish replay

  I'm making a platformer built from mini-levels - and I want to create a sort of a replay of all the player tries that the player did for the level. My question is - what is the best way to record the player's actions in-game, so that I could replay them later when he finishes the level. I thought about recording only the player's input and replay them later on, each on a clone of the player. The problem I have with this is with dynamic obstacles (that could be moved around) - if one clone moves them, it throws the simulation off for the rest of the clones. So then I thought about recording every frame the X/Y of the player, and then just replay it - but that seems it could cause a major memory leak and very ineffective. So - does anyone have any ideas? :)

• Server side random selection of players

  Assuming I have a simple client-server game, where the server picks random players on a very frequent base, I was wondering what is the best way to select a random player (According to the following constraints): Solution must be high performance and highly scalable Random spread should be relatively even (meaning if I have 3 players and pick 99 times, they will all be picked 33 times more or less) Should only pick players who were active in the past X days (optional, but a big bonus) The actual DB or data model used to store players isn't an issue here, as we'll select the technology in accordance to our needs. However, high performance and scalability is (at the moment we have over 60,000 unique daily active players, and we plan on growing even more). Thanks!

• Why can't I get to a shared folder from Windows

  I want to access a folder on my new Ubuntu 12.10 box from any machine on my network without the need to provide credentials. My machine name is Ubuntu1 I have a 2TB disk that formatted NTFS that has media on it The mount point is mount1 I have numerous folders on the disk and I want to share each of them individually I have enabled folder1 and folder2 for sharing I have enabled shared access, Allow others to create and delete files in this folder and guest access is allowed. The folder icon now has arrows so I assume all is good. From windows I can see under network Ubuntu1folder1 Ubuntu1folder2 When I click to open the folder from windows I get the error "You cannot access \Ubuntu1\folder1 You do not have permission to access \Ubuntu1\folder1 I have them both on the same workgroup. • Unable to install ia32-libs package

  I need to manually install the drivers for my graphics card, which is an ATI 2600 xt. But I am using a 64-bit platform and to do so i need the ia32-libs package. i have scoured the net for fixes, workarounds etc. but have found none that work. the output i get after trying apt-get is: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package ia32-libs is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'ia32-libs' has no installation candidate I am running linux mint 12

• CNAME cross subdomain mapping problem

  I have the exact same problem as this but I don't understand the solution. I have 2 different domain name(with different hosting/provider) domain-one.com and domain-two.com which I want sub.domain-one.com to point to sub.domain-two.com using CNAME. All have been setup and propagate correctly but now when I go to sub.domain-one.com it goes to basic page of the server. If I go directly to sub.domain-two.com the page load correctly. I've tried to add the subdomain using Addon Domains on cPanel but the problem persist.

• removing ubuntu from a laptop (corrupted ubuntu)

  I wanted to update my (very old) Ubuntu installation on my dual boot laptop. The other OS is win7. However, when I tried to boot into it I got: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr cannot be loaded. Status 0xE0000000C. I assume the mbr is the master boot record for the Ubuntu installation. I looked at my C: drive and there's a WUBILDR and WUBILDR.MBR file there. Is it as simple as deleting them? ALSO, I just noticed there is no UBUNTU partition. If I delete these files and then get rid of the startup option for Ubuntu, is that all I have to do? (My goal is to have an up-to-date Ubuntu OS alongside Win 7).

• Error installing gPodder

  A few weeks ago (newbie alert!) I started using XUbuntu 12.04 with Xfce 4.8. I'm trying to install gPodder Podcast Client (see https://launchpad.net/~thp/+archive/gpodder). I've added the PPA via terminal commands as instructed. When I click the Install button in the Ubuntu Software Centre I get the following error: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. Details: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gpodder: Depends: python-webkit but it is not going to be installed What do I need to do? Just to make thing more complicated -- I'm not sure, but before I found the launchpad.net link, I think I may have tried to install gPodder from the default Ubuntu repositories (also unsuccessfully). There may be remnants of the previous attempt still installed, which may be blocking the new install. Where/how can I find them?

• Wordpress : Automatically transfer media files to Amazon S3

  I've been using VPS to host 7 Wordpress websites, most of them require big storage but very little RAM and traffic. So I'm thinking of moving the static files(uploads folder) content to Amazon S3 and I'm looking for the most viable solution to this. I want every website to have their own bucket and newly uploaded media files automatically uploaded to Amazon S3 without using plugin. I'm ok with cron job, for example the files were uploaded first to my server, then transferred to S3 and deleted from my server every 24 hour. Or is there any way for me to change the default upload directory to my S3 bucket without sacrificing any Wordpress functionality(resize/title etc)? What do you think the most efficient way to do this? Currently I'm looking at this plus cron job but I would like to know better option if it exist.

  Hello everyone. I am working on website and I am trying to make it fast as much as possible - especially the small things that can make my site a little bit quicker. So, my to my question - I got loop that run 5 times and in each time it echo something, If I'll make variable and the loop will add the text I want to echo into the variable and just in the end I'll echo the variable - will it be faster? loop 1 (with the echo inside the loop) for ($i = 0;$i < 5;$i++) { echo "test"; } loop 2 (with the echo outside [when the loop finish]) $echostr = ""; for ($i = 0;$i < 5;$i++) { $echostr .= "test"; } echo $echostr; I know that loop 2 will increase a bit the file size and therefore the user will have to download more bytes but If I got huge loop will it be better to use second loop or not? • xfce4 - 'Run Program' dialogue box does not appear when double clicking script

  Ubuntu 12.04 Xfce4 On my previous Ubuntu distro, when I double clicked scripts I got a little dialogue window that asked me if I wanted to run the script as a program or run it in terminal. Similar to this window: Since upgrading, I have never seen that window. I have ensured that the option to 'Allow executing as a program is enabled' and the script works if I run it through terminal. I simply just don't get the prompt. Any ideas?

  Hi , I built an application in c# vs2005 .net . Everything works fine when i run the application in win 32 bit, But when running the application in win 64 it crashes while trying to call the pinvoke interlockedexchange(which is within the kernel32.dll) function . This is the exception : unable to find an entry point named 'interlockedexchange' I didnt find the interlockedexchange function within the kernel32.dll under system32 directory but it was found under the syswow64 directory(in the kernel32.dll) . I guess that the .net runtime is configured to the system32 directory and not to the syswow64 . How is it possible to change this configuration ? Can you think of any other problem that could cause this? any help would be appreciated! thanks , Miki Amit

• Updating PDB files without rebuilding.

  Hi All, Is there a way to update the PDB file with the new source location ? I have a project which links to some libraries which are built on another machine and are debug build with the PDB file. I cannot put a breakpoint in the files which are compiled in the libs. These libs take more than 4 hours to build so I dont want to buid them on my machine. • Sort Grid Columns of mixed type in EXTJS Grid

  Hello, I want to sort the extjs columns, I have the column type as float and from the server side i am getting values which can contain "-" value , now what happens the grid is displaying me the NaN value instead of - and the sort is not working anymore. • Executing system command in php, differs in using broswer and in using command line

  Hi, I have to execute a Linux "more" command in php from a particular offset, format the result and display the result in Browser. • Basic C programming question

  Hi all, I've just started to learn C and it's going pretty slow...I wanted to write a program that takes in an integer argument and returns it's doubled value (aka take in integer, multiply by 2, and printf that value). I purposely did not want to use the scanf function. Here's what I have so far and what is not compiling... #include <stdio.h> int main(int index) { if (!(index)) { printf("No index given"); return 1; } a = index*2; printf("Mult by 2 %d",a); return 0; } So basically when the program is executed I want to supply the index integer. So, in cygwin, I would write something like ./a 10 and 10 would be stored into the index variable. Also, I want to program to return "No index given" and exit if no index value was supplied... Anyone care to help what I'm doing wrong? • Dokuwiki: Moving Just the data directory on other server

  I have installed dokuwiki on IIS7. As per my teams requirement we have to move just the Data directory to other server location. e.g - IIS7 installed Dokuwiki location: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dokuwiki\conf - data location on the other server we want: U:\Archive\LP_Archive\SH_Systems\DEV01\dokuwiki So for doing that I followed pointers on dokuwiki install iis7 As per the above link, I tried adding IUSR to data folder permissions but its failing due to my insufficient privileges. And without that IUSR permission set on data folder I am getting an error as "The datadir ('pages') at is not found, isn't accessible or writable". Is there any other way to make it work? Is there any other account than IUSR I can use?

  How should I interpret a empty User-agent? I have some custom analytics code and that code has to analyze only human traffic. I have got a working list of User-agents denoting human traffic, and bot traffic, but the empty User-agent is proving to be problematic. And I am getting lots of traffic with empty user agent - 10%. Additionally - I have crafted the human traffic versus bot traffic user agent list by analyzing my current logs. As such I might be missing a lot of entries in there. Is there a well maintained list of user agents denoting bot traffic, OR the inverse a list of user agents denoting human traffic?

• Touchpad too sensitive on Samsung Series 7

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my SAMSUNG Series 7 NP700Z5B-S01UB. The touchpad worked out of the box and that has been awesome. But the touch pad's tap to click is too sensitive. It keeps selecting things as I'm just trying to move the pointer. I didn't have this problem with windows so this tells me that it can be configured to be less sensitive. Need help doing this. PS: I know turning off tap to click is an option but I don't want that. PPS: I see various sensitivity sliders in the config but they seem to be at the lowest and mostly around acceleration of pointer not for tap sensitivity.
