• How can I had some contents from Chrome/Chromium browsers?

  I need to put a "Bookmark us" in my website. But as I searched using Google all the results conclude that no way to do "Bookmark us" for Chrome/Chromium browsers. So I want to either: 1- Hide the content from chrome/chromium browsers. or at least, 2- Show a message if the user's browser is chrome/chromium after clicking that buttong. • Google Chrome proxy settings?

  When I try to set Google Chrome's proxy settings (on chrome://linux-proxy-config/), I get the following message: When running Google Chrome under a supported desktop environment, the system proxy settings will be used. However, either your system is not supported or there was a problem launching your system configuration. But you can still configure via the command line. Please see man google-chrome-stable for more information on flags and environment variables. I need to set proxy settings to use Chrome, but I don't want to be setting them in the command line every time I use Chrome. Is there a way to set these settings permanently? Also, is there an option in Chrome so that it doesn't use proxy for specific domains (analogous to the No proxy for setting in Firefox)?

• How can I disable chrome extensions (when Chrome is unresponsive)?

  I'm having a problem where Chrome won't ever fully start (cursor just spins indefinitely and can't use the any menus or buttons in Chrome). I think it is due to an extension I installed but since the browser is unresponsive, I can't do anything through Chrome itself. Is there a flag to disable all extensions for Chrome or a config file I can manually edit to disable extensions so I can figure out what exactly is causing it? I'd prefer to not have to blow it away and reinstall as I might just install the offending extension again (assuming that is what is causing the issue).

• Shockwave not responding in Google Chrome

  When browsing in Google chrome, I get an error message The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x0025bf18. I get a pop-up message later saying that the shockwave plugin is not responding. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Chrome (even by clearing my browsing data while uninstalling) and still the error persists. There are 2 instances of shockwave that I could see in my chrome by typing chrome://plugins. I've tried disabling either of those alternatively too. This prevents me from browsing a lot of sites including FB and Stackoverflow through my favorite browser. I dont have any problem when I work from Internet Explorer. Please help!

• Monitor and Control Memory Usage in Google Chrome

  Do you want to know just how much memory Google Chrome and any installed extensions are using at a given moment? With just a few clicks you can see just what is going on under the hood of your browser. How Much Memory are the Extensions Using? Here is our test browser with a new tab and the Extensions Page open, five enabled extensions, and one disabled at the moment. You can access Chrome’s Task Manager using the Page Menu, going to Developer, and selecting Task manager… Or by right clicking on the Tab Bar and selecting Task manager. There is also a keyboard shortcut (Shift + Esc) available for the “keyboard ninjas”. Sitting idle as shown above here are the stats for our test browser. All of the extensions are sitting there eating memory even though some of them are not available/active for use on our new tab and Extensions Page. Not so good… If the default layout is not to your liking then you can easily modify the information that is available by right clicking and adding/removing extra columns as desired. For our example we added Shared Memory & Private Memory. Using the about:memory Page to View Memory Usage Want even more detail? Type about:memory into the Address Bar and press Enter. Note: You can also access this page by clicking on the Stats for nerds Link in the lower left corner of the Task Manager Window. Focusing on the four distinct areas you can see the exact version of Chrome that is currently installed on your system… View the Memory & Virtual Memory statistics for Chrome… Note: If you have other browsers running at the same time you can view statistics for them here too. See a list of the Processes currently running… And the Memory & Virtual Memory statistics for those processes. The Difference with the Extensions Disabled Just for fun we decided to disable all of the extension in our test browser… The Task Manager Window is looking rather empty now but the memory consumption has definitely seen an improvement. Comparing Memory Usage for Two Extensions with Similar Functions For our next step we decided to compare the memory usage for two extensions with similar functionality. This can be helpful if you are wanting to keep memory consumption trimmed down as much as possible when deciding between similar extensions. First up was Speed Dial”(see our review here). The stats for Speed Dial…quite a change from what was shown above (~3,000 – 6,000 K). Next up was Incredible StartPage (see our review here). Surprisingly both were nearly identical in the amount of memory being used. Purging Memory Perhaps you like the idea of being able to “purge” some of that excess memory consumption. With a simple command switch modification to Chrome’s shortcut(s) you can add a Purge Memory Button to the Task Manager Window as shown below.  Notice the amount of memory being consumed at the moment… Note: The tutorial for adding the command switch can be found here. One quick click and there is a noticeable drop in memory consumption. Conclusion We hope that our examples here will prove useful to you in managing the memory consumption in your own Google Chrome installation. If you have a computer with limited resources every little bit definitely helps out. • Create and Backup Multiple Profiles in Google Chrome

  Other browsers such as Firefox and SeaMonkey allow you to have multiple profiles but not Chrome…at least not until now. If you want to use multiple profiles and create backups for them then join us as we look at Google Chrome Backup. Note: There is a paid version of this program available but we used the free version for our article. Google Chrome Backup in Action During the installation process you will run across this particular window. It will have a default user name filled in as shown here…you will not need to do anything except click on Next to continue installing the program. When you start the program for the first time this is what you will see. Your default Chrome Profile will already be visible in the window. A quick look at the Profile Menu… In the Tools Menu you can go ahead and disable the Start program at Windows Startup setting…the only time that you will need the program running is if you are creating or restoring a profile. When you create a new profile the process will start with this window. You can access an Advanced Options mode if desired but most likely you will not need it. Here is a look at the Advanced Options mode. It is mainly focused on adding Switches to the new Chrome Shortcut. The drop-down menu for the Switches available… To create your new profile you will need to choose: A profile location A profile name (as you type/create the profile name it will automatically be added to the Profile Path) Make certain that the Create a new shortcut to access new profile option is checked For our example we decided to try out the Disable plugins switch option… Click OK to create the new profile. Once you have created your new profile, you will find a new shortcut on the Desktop. Notice that the shortcut’s name will be Google Chrome + profile name that you chose. Note: On our system we were able to move the new shortcut to the “Start Menu” without problems. Clicking on our new profile’s shortcut opened up a fresh and clean looking instance of Chrome. Just out of curiosity we did decide to check the shortcut to see if the Switch set up correctly. Unfortunately it did not in this instance…so your mileage with the Switches may vary. This was just a minor quirk and nothing to get excited or upset over…especially considering that you can create multiple profiles so easily. After opening up our default profile of Chrome you can see the individual profile icons (New & Default in order) sitting in the Taskbar side-by-side. And our two profiles open at the same time on our Desktop… Backing Profiles Up For the next part of our tests we decided to create a backup for each of our profiles. Starting the wizard will allow you to choose between creating or restoring a profile. Note: To create or restore a backup click on Run Wizard. When you reach the second part of the process you can go with the Backup default profile option or choose a particular one from a drop-down list using the Select a profile to backup option. We chose to backup the Default Profile first… In the third part of the process you will need to select a location to save the profile to. Once you have selected the location you will see the Target Path as shown here. You can choose your own name for the backup file…we decided to go with the default name instead since it contained the backup’s calendar date. A very nice feature is the ability to have the cache cleared before creating the backup. We clicked on Yes…choose the option that best suits your needs. Once you have chosen either Yes or No the backup will then be created. Click Finish to complete the process. The backup file for our Default Profile at 14.0 MB in size. And the backup file for our Chrome Fresh Profile…2.81 MB. Restoring Profiles For the final part of our tests we decided to do a Restore. Select Restore and click Next to get the process started. In the second step you will need to browse for the Profile Backup File (and select the desired profile if you have created multiples). For our example we decided to overwrite the original Default Profile with the Chrome Fresh Profile. The third step lets you choose where to restore the chosen profile to…you can go with the Default Profile or choose one from the drop-down list using the Restore to a selected profile option. The final step will get you on your way to restoring the chosen profile. The program will conduct a check regarding the previous/old profile and ask if you would like to proceed with overwriting it. Definitely nice in case you change your mind at the last moment. Clicking Yes will finish the restoration. The only other odd quirk that we noticed while using the program was that the Next Button did not function after restoring the profile. You can easily get around the problem by clicking to close the window. Which one is which? After the restore process we had identical twins. Conclusion If you have been looking for a way to create multiple profiles in Google Chrome, then you might want to add this program to your system. • Turn Off Google Chrome Annoying Link Hover

  I like Google Chrome a lot, but there are two problems I have with it. The Address Bar search history feature that I want to turn off, and the feature where I hover over a hyperlink and in the bottom lefthand corner it shows a light blue hover tooltip about where that link goes. I really don't care where a given link goes and wish I could turn that feature off, even if I have to install a Google Chrome Extension. So, for these two reasons, I will not install Google Chrome as my primary browser and will remain with Firefox. So, is there a fix to turn the annoying link hover tooltip feature off?

  Is there any way to tell google-chrome to launch video files of particular types in an external application (or even just to bring up the download box as if the type was un-handled), instead of showing the video inside the browser? Searching online, it seems that chrome is supposed to use xdg-mime for file associations, but apparently is ignoring this for video. For example, when I do: xdg-mime query default video/mpeg It returns dragonplayer.desktop. But when I click on a mpeg video link, chrome displays it internally instead of launching Dragon Player (if I double click on a mpeg file in my file manager, on the other hand, it does open Dragon Player). So is there a way to tell chrome to respect this setting, or another way to coax chrome into opening the file externally? If it matters, I'm running the latest version of google-chrome stable (not chromium) at the time of writing, v. 18.0.1025.151, on kubuntu 11.10.

• Chrome drag and drop download links

  In Chrome, I used to be able to take a link to a file and just drag to a folder on my system. Chrome would then download whatever resource was at the URL for the link and put it into the folder dropped into. This was particularly handy when using Gmail. If there was an attachment, I could just click and drag it into a folder, and Chrome would download it for me to the correct place. Now I have to hit download, and then drag from the download bar when it is finished. Has this feature been removed? Is there any way to bring it back?

• Chrome keeps crashing after updates

  I'm a chrome user and an enthusiast but few days ago I made Ubuntu get some updates using Update Manager, then I turned off my notebook and when I restarted it, I tried to start Chrome which after a few seconds turned the screen completely black, and some errors appeared for few seconds and then I got logged off, and had to re-login, and when I opened Chrome again the same thing happened! I've uninstalled it with Synaptic and did complete cleanings before re-installing Chrome but nothing succeeded. Now I can't use either Chromium and Chrome, but Firefox works. It's a very strange thing, never happened to me before and I don't know what to do because I had all my bookmarks syncronized in Chrome! Please help if you can :)

• Multi Column Block Too Narrow in Chrome

  My Web site displays song lyrics in a multi-column format, using CSS3. Both Firefox & MSIE 10+ display the multi-column text perfectly, but Chrome does not. This sample page shows the problem: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/test/html5/html5-multicolumn-test.htm The page uses a media selector, so your Chrome window must be at least 1280 pixels wide to see the effect. In fact, if you make the Chrome window less than 1280 pixels, you'll see the lyrics block change to a single column, of the same overall width. In other words, when Chrome shifts to 1-column to 2-column mode (due to the wider browser window), the lyrics block remains the same width, causing text to be squeezed together. Has anyone else seen this behavior, or know a solution? Is this a Chrome bug, or I am I doing something wrong? I posted this question on a Chrome forum a while back, but got no reply.

• How do I get adobe flash working in Chrome or Chromium on Ringtail?

  I have recently upgraded to Ringtail and for some reason flash isn't working on either Chrome or Chromium. It works in firefox but I prefer Chrome as my browser so switching to firefox when a website containing flash appears is a bit annoying. According to just about every source, flash it built into Chrome and should just work even on Ubuntu. I tried removing chrome and reinstalling it, but the problem persists. I've checked about://plugins and flash is enabled. • Alternative to arrow keys in Google Chrome location bar

  I like Google Chrome because it is fast but I don't like using the arrow keys in the location bar to complete URLs. Is there any extension, or setting I'm missing, that allows me to use the Tab key (or other customizable key) for completion like in Firefox? I am an Emacs user and am aware of Conkeror. I just wanted to give Google Chrome a fair chance. Edit: I'm using version 4.0.266.0 on Linux.

• Google Chrome Omnibox truncating searches after "#" - I.E. "c# foo" becomes "c"

  I have recently been finding myself stymied trying to perform searches for c#-related things in Chrome. The problem is that the omnibox truncates the # and everything after it. This means typing c# foo" in the omnibox in Chrome and hitting enter returns highly unhelpful search results for "c" Google. Any tricks or extensions that would allow me to type "c# foo" into the omnibox and return results that are related to c# and foo? Am I the only person with this problem?

• Stupid Geek Tricks: Compare Your Browser’s Memory Usage with Google Chrome

  Ever tried to figure out exactly how much memory Google Chrome or Internet Explorer is using? Since they each show up a bunch of times in Task Manager, it’s not so easy! Here’s the quick and easy way to compare them. Both Chrome and IE use multiple processes to isolate tabs from each other, to make sure that one tab doesn’t kill the whole browser. Firefox, on the other hand, just uses a single process for everything. Rather than pulling out a calculator and adding them all up, you can just open up Google Chrome, and type in about:memory into the location bar to see a full list of each browser’s memory usage.   On my test system with 6 GB of system RAM, I’m running the Development channel version of Chrome, and I’ve got about 40 different tabs open, which is why the memory usage is so high. Firefox has 8 tabs open, and IE is enjoying being opened for the first time in forever. Want to help cut down on memory usage and keep your Chrome browser running fast? Disable all unnecessary extensions, and then make sure you disable any plug-ins that you don’t need either. • Google Chrome not rendering webpages correctly

  I am facing some serious web page rendering issues with Chrome. It is more prominent during javascript based animations and stuff on websites like youtube. I have tried removing chrome using (sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable) and then reinstalling it. But the problems still persist. The same webpages work correctly on firefox on ubuntu and chrome on windows. The problem only shows up when I use chrome on ubuntu. I think the issue has started after I updated to the latest version of Chrome. I have used Chrome previously on this machine without any problems. I have attached a image that demonstrates the issue. What could possibly be the problem?
