  • Problems running Ubuntu 12.10 in VMWare Player 5

    I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in VMWare Player 5. My pc is running Windows 7. The installation seems to go okay, but when I boot up ubuntu, although it starts up and I see the desktop, I can't see any task bar or basically anything other than the default wallpaper in the background. When I move my cursor across the screen towards the edges, the desktop flickers and extremely distorted and pixelated objects appear momentarily. I've tried uninstalling everything, downloading it all again and reinstalling, but I get the exact same problem. Does anyone recognise this issue? Is there a more stable pairing than Ubuntu 12.10 & WMWare Player 5.0.1, perhaps?

    I have Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS installed on a VMware machine on Windows 7 host. I seem to have a problem with Kernel headers when trying to install them I did: sudo apt-get install gcc make build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) Reading package lists... Done gcc is already the newest version. build-essential is already the newest version. linux-headers-3.5.0-28-generic is already the newest version. make is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 100 not upgraded.   • VMWare Host needing ESXi 5.0 - Running on a 2008 R2 Host?

    I have a VMWare image supplied by my Phone System provider which manages a contact management interface, they tell me that VMWare EsXi5.0 is the highest supported host. I'm used to MS HyperV and have no VMWare experiance. At present I have this guest running on a simple desktop PC running ESXi5.0.0, I'd idealy like to run this guest (it's Windows 7 with their software already installed and configured) on a Windows 2008R2 server I have available, as I said, I'm used to HyperV and I can't easily identify if there is a version of VMWare that supports ESXi5.0 guests that will run on a Windows 2008 R2 server host. Is there such a product, what's it called, and with one guest can I run it without purchasing a license? Thanks

  • Scheduling VMWare ESXi 4.1 VM Restart

    We had a virtual machine running on a VMWare Server host on Windows Server 2003. The machine is set up with non persistent disks. We had a windows task schedule set up that ran a batch file to reset the machine each week so that it returned to it's original state. The batch file that we had running was: "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\vmware-cmd" "C:\Virtual Machines\VirtualMachineName\VirtualMachineName.vmx" stop hard "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\vmware-cmd" "C:\Virtual Machines\VirtualMachineName\VirtualMachineName1.vmx" start We have since migrated this machine to the free version of ESXi 4.1. Can anyone let me know if and how it is possible to schedule such a restart?

Would you like to change it?[yes] In CentOS, I run the following command to resolve this issue: yum install gcc-c++ yum install kernel-devel yum install kernel-headers yum -y update kernel But I don't know how to do in Ubuntu.     In yesterday’s blog post we learned the importance of the NewSQL. In this article we will understand the role of Cloud in Big Data Story What is Cloud? Cloud is the biggest buzzword around from last few years. Everyone knows about the Cloud and it is extremely well defined online. In this article we will discuss cloud in the context of the Big Data. Cloud computing is a method of providing a shared computing resources to the application which requires dynamic resources. These resources include applications, computing, storage, networking, development and various deployment platforms. The fundamentals of the cloud computing are that it shares pretty much share all the resources and deliver to end users as a service.  Examples of the Cloud Computing and Big Data are Google and Amazon.com.   • VMWare workstation: guest OS becomes sluggish after being idle for 12+ hours?

    Hi, My VM becomes sluggish after a few hours(~12 hours or so) of being idle, there is no impact on the host, just the gueste. The guest OS becomes sluggish. It has lots of RAM, runs on Raid 0, quad core i5 750, everything is defragged, but the only way I found to keep it's responsiveness optimal is to shutdown(dumps the memory) and the start; a restart of the guest OS doesnt dump the memory so I need to be able to do a stop of the VM, and then a start. Coming from Hyper-V I had to learn VMWare and after a few months of fine tunning it I'm quite impressed with how configurable VMWare is. This is the only small issue I haven't been able to fix, has anyone encountered this?

  • Why are my hardware tabs disabled for my VMWare player image?

    I just installed a Ubuntu 10.10 image on VMWare player and after I finished installing I was messing with the hardware settings and I did the following: 1. disabled the floppy device 2. changed the CDRom to "use system cdrom" 3. tried to enable the VMWare tools but it complained that the vm was in "Easy Install" mode After I fiddled with the VM now my floppy and 2 CD rom devices as well as sound card and USB settings are all disabled in the VM hardware settings. Any idea on why this occurred and how to fix it?

    i have opened this thread because i upgraded to ubuntu 12.10 beta (kernel 3.5) and i have problem with vmware workstation 9: "Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to" does anyone got the same problem? Clean install of ubuntu 12.10 (daily build) installed vmware 9 and patched but not working, my laptop is a Lenovo T420 with Nvidia Optimus Technology. i can't patch correctly and get the thinks be builded correctly, my configuration is ubuntu 12.10 fresh installation vmware workstation 9 fresh install on top of a lenovo thikpad t420 with nvidia optimus video card. have a problems.. this message is show whem i try to apply the patch.. # Stopping VMware services: VMware Authentication Daemon done At least one instance of VMware VMX is still running. From reading into each of them, they seem very different and range from just hosting applications (google) to a semi-full enterprise web serving framework (rackspace). Comparing "by hand" takes a lot of time. All have limitations and different prizing, but which are those and how do they compare? I'm looking for an unbiased comparison site, rather then a discussion on "which is the best". * I don't mean a hosting provider comparison site, of which there are many.   • Upgrade an Ubuntu 8.04 installation with VMware Server 1.0.8 and lots of guest OSes to Something Els

    I have an Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) host machine which is running a whole slew of virtual machines in VMWare Server 1.0.8. Among other guest OSes, there is every release version of Ubuntu since 6.06, OpenSolaris 2009.06, and Windows XP. Right now I access these VMs from a variety of client OSes as well; Linux and Windows via the VMWare server console, and MacOS via X-forwarding the host machine's server console. I'd like to upgrade the host to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), but from what I can tell, getting VMWare Server 1.x to work on a more recent version of Linux is a real pain. While VMware Server 2.x is a bit easier, it's still not packaged as Debian packages, so installing security updates is a big chore. As long as I'm upgrading anyway, I'd like to move to a virtualization solution that will allow me to automate applying updates. The options that I'm aware of right now are KVM (managed via virt-manager) and VirtualBox (as managed by its own tools or via its own libvirt bindings), but I'm open to other suggestions. For each option, I'd like to know how do I convert my guest images to the new format? am I going to have to re-activate my Windows guests (alternatively, "If the virtual hardware is different by default, can I avoid re-activation by changing some virtualization configuration to provide me with more similar virtual hardware") what are the management options like for each client OS (mac, linux, windows)?   • When to start thinking about scalability?

    I'm having a funny but also terrible problem. I'm about to launch a new (iPhone) app. It's a turn-based multiplayer game running on my own custom backend. But I'm afraid to launch. For some reason, I think it might become something big and that its popularity will kill my poor lonely single server + MySQL database. On one hand I'm thinking that if it's growing, I'd better be prepared and have a scalable infrastructure already in place. On the other hand I just feel like getting it out into the world and see what happens. I often read stuff like "premature optimization is the root of all evil" or people saying that you should just build your killer game now, with the tools at hand, and worry about other stuff like scalability later. I'd love to hear some opinions on this from experts or people with experience with this. Thanks!

Currently, what I know and what I do is: to design relational database(3NF), make separate class for each table put that in MVC implement modular programming ...write code and hope for the best... I presume that next things I need to learn more deeply are: programming codex(naming, commenting, conventions...), organize functions building interfaces organizing custom made libraries, organizing API that I'm using, documenting, team work... ... At last what my job is, it does't need to affect your answer, PHP CodeIgniter developer.

After that I copied the boot.bin file to my usb and took it to my Windows OS. After this I burned the boot.bin file to boot.img and boot.iso files. Then I created a new virtual machine and named it booter, when it asked for the .iso file of the OS I want to run I gave it the boot.iso file, about which I told above, then I powered on that virtual machine but it gave me this error PXE-M0F: No boot filename received PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM Operating System not found Please tell me what is the main problem and how can I overcome that problem.

  • Static IP Address on Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Machine

    I've setup a VM running Ubuntu 12.04 specifically for local web development and am having some problems ensuring it has a static IP address. A static IP address is important as I'm using the IP address in my hosts file to assign a .local suffix to addresses used both in browser and to connect to the correct database on the VM. Currently, every time I connect to a new network or my VM is assigned a new IP address I need to reconfigure my whole environment which is becoming quite a pain. It also probably doesn't help that the default-lease-time on the Ubuntu VM is set to 1800 by default. At the moment I'm using VMWare Fusion and the Network Adapter is enabled and set to "Autodetect" under Bridged Networking. I've tried to set a static IP address within the dhcpd.conf using the code below: host ubuntu { hardware ethernet 00:50:56:35:0f:f1; fixed-address: 192.168.100.100; } The fixed-address that I've used is also outside the range specified in the subnet block (which in this case is 192.168.100.128 to 192.168.100.254). I've tried adding and removing the network adapter and restarting my Mac after each time to no avail.
