  • R Plot Specify number of time tickmarks

    I was wondering how I could plot more tick marks when plotting time on the x-axis. Basically, a time equivalent to pretty. Pretty obviously doesn't work so well with times, as it uses factors of 1,2,5 and 10. For time one probably wants e.g. hours, half hours, ... plot(as.POSIXct(x,origin="1960-01-01"),y,type="l",xlab="Time") gives really too few and widely spaced tickmarks. zoox<-zoo(y,as.POSIXct(stats$Time,origin="1960-01-01")) plot(zoox) gives the same.     Say I have the following script: u = -5:.2:5; [X,Y] = meshgrid(u, u); Z = cos(X).*cos(Y).*exp(-sqrt(X.^2 + Y.^2)/4); surf(X,Y,Z); Is there anyway that I can make MatLab plot only parts of the surface? Say, for instance, I just want to plot a single point, or a single grid, what can I do? I thought perhaps to plot a single point I could use: surf(X(1,1), Y(1,1), Z(1,1)) But then I get the error message: ??? Error using ==> surf at 78 Data dimensions must agree. I would really appreciate some input/help here. Thanks in advance :)

  • Sempron 145 core unlocking

    Call me a cheapskate looking for performance, but I have a Sempron 145 processor that has been unlocked to an Athlon II X2 4450e with a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, but only one of the two processor cores can be used at a time. If both of the cores are enabled in the BIOS the kernel will hang during boot, If I reboot the system and disable the second core (but not re-lock the processor), it will take me to the grub and then start normally. Is there a way to enable both cores and boot without kernel hangs?

  • How to resolve CGDirectDisplayID changing issues on newer multi-GPU Apple laptops in Core Foundation

    In Mac OS X, every display gets a unique CGDirectDisplayID number assigned to it. You can use CGGetActiveDisplayList() or [NSScreen screens] to access them, among others. Per Apple's docs: A display ID can persist across processes and system reboot, and typically remains constant as long as certain display parameters do not change. On newer mid-2010 MacBook Pro's, Apple started using auto-switching Intel/nVidia graphics. Laptops have two GPU's, a low-powered Intel, and a high-powered nVidia. Previous dual-GPU laptops (2009 models) didn't have auto-GPU switching, and required the user to make a settings change, logoff, and then logon again to make a GPU switch occur. Even older systems only had one GPU. There's an issue with the mid-2010 models where CGDirectDisplayID's don't remain the same when a display switches from one GPU to the next. For example: Laptop powers on. Built-In LCD Screen is driven by Intel chipset. Display ID: 30002 External Display is plugged in. Built-In LCD Screen switches to nVidia chipset. It's display ID changes: 30004 External Display is driven by nVidia chipset. ...at this point, the Intel chipset is dormant... User unplugs External Display. Built-In LCD Screen switches back to Intel chipset. It's display ID changes back to original: 30002 My question is, how can I match an old display ID to a new display ID when they alter due to a GPU change? Thought about: I've noticed that the display ID only changes by 2, but I don't have enough test Mac's available to determine if this is common to all new MacBook Pro's, or just mine. Kind of a kludge if "just check for display ID's which are +/-2 from one another" works, anyway. Tried: CGDisplayRegisterReconfigurationCallback(), which notifies before-and-after when displays are going to change, has no matching logic. Putting something like this inside a method registered with it doesn't work: // Run before display settings change: CGDirectDisplayID directDisplayID = ...; io_service_t servicePort = CGDisplayIOServicePort(directDisplayID); CFDictionaryRef oldInfoDict = IODisplayCreateInfoDictionary(servicePort, kIODisplayMatchingInfo); // ...display settings change... // Run after display settings change: CGDirectDisplayID directDisplayID = ...; io_service_t servicePort = CGDisplayIOServicePort(directDisplayID); CFDictionaryRef newInfoDict = IODisplayCreateInfoDictionary(servicePort, kIODisplayMatchingInfo); BOOL match = IODisplayMatchDictionaries(oldInfoDict, newInfoDict, 0); if (match) NSLog(@"Displays are a match"); else NSLog(@"Displays are not a match"); What's happening above is I'm caching oldInfoDict before display settings change, letting them change, and then comparing it to newInfoDict by using IODisplayMatchDictionaries(), which will say either "yes, both displays are the same!" or "no, both displays are not the same." Unfortunately, it does not return YES if GPU's have changed for a monitor. Example of the dictionary's it's comparing: // oldInfoDict (Display ID: 30002) oldInfoDict: { DisplayProductID = 40144; DisplayVendorID = 1552; IODisplayLocation = "IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/IGPU@2/AppleIntelFramebuffer/display0/AppleBacklightDisplay"; } // newInfoDict (Display ID: 30004) newInfoDict: { DisplayProductID = 40144; DisplayVendorID = 1552; IODisplayLocation = "IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/P0P2@1/IOPCI2PCIBridge/GFX0@0/NVDA,Display-A@0/NVDA/display0/AppleBacklightDisplay"; } As you can see, the IODisplayLocation key changes when GPU's are switched, hence IODisplayMatchDictionaries() doesn't work. I can, theoretically, compared just the DisplayProductID and DisplayVendorID keys, but I'm writing end-user software, and am worried of a situation where users have two or more identical monitors plugged in. Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

  • Ubuntu server 11.04 recognize only 1 core instead of 4

    I searched for other questions and googled a lot but I don't find a solution for solving this problem. Ubuntu Server 11.04 64bit installed on Dell Poweredge with Intel Xeon X5450. He only recognize 1 of the 4 cores I have. Tried to modify the GRUB config but didn't work. IN the machine BIOS I didn't find anything useful.   • Core Plot on iPad Runs with Debugger, not Standalone

    Hey guys, Thanks to Ole Begemann, I spent yesterday digging around in Core Plot to explore adding graphing to an iPad application that I've been working on. I was fairly satisfied with it, and wanted to show it off to a friend of mine - so I stopped the debugger, took the device off the dock, handed it over to my friend and pushed the icon. Lo, it started and then immediately crashed. I figured that it was using the release profile, and on a whim went ahead and compiled and ran (through the debugger) under the release profile instead of the debug. As expected, it crashed right away with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I have added the relative path to the core plot to Release configuration and -all_load and -ObjC to the "other" linker flags - just like in the debugger profile and googled all around. IT seems that most people with this issue have forgotten to add the linker flags. Does anyone have any suggestions for next steps in figuring out this issue?

  • MATLAB plot moving data points in seperate subplots simutaneously

    I wish to visualize the movement of a data point throughout space across a period of time within MATLAB. However, the way I want my figure to display is such that only a single instant is plotted at any given time. That was easy, I simply created a for loop to update my 3D plot display for every set of coordinates (x,y,z) in my data. However, I wish to display 4 different viewing angles of this plot at all times. I am well aware of how to setup subplots within MATLAB, that is not the issue. My issue is getting all 4 of these subplots to execute simultaneously so that all 4 subplots are always displaying the same point in time. I would appreciate if anyone could suggest how to handle this issue.     Hello, Currently I have a a text file with data at the first row is formatted as follow: time;wave height 1;wave height 2;....... I have column until wave height 19 and rows total 4000 rows. Data in the first column is time in second. From 2nd column onwards, it is wave height elevation which is in meter. I would like to plot the follow: ![alt text][1] on the x axis is time. the left hand side is wave height in m and on the right hand side is the distance between each measurment in a model. inside the graph there are 4 plots, each plot is repersent waveight 1, wave height 2etc at a defined distance related to the right hand side y asix.     Problem: I can't get Core Plot (1.1) to plot automatic labels for my x-axis when using autoscaling ([plotSpace scaleToFitPlots:[graph allPlots]). What I have tried: I changed the values for the offsets and paddings, but this did not change the result. However, when turning autoscale off (not using [plotSpace scaleToFitPlots:[graph allPlots]]and setting the y scale automatically, the automatic labeling of the x-axis works.     I have 2 sets of depth point measurements, for example: > a depth value 1 2 2 2 4 3 3 6 4 4 8 5 5 16 40 6 18 45 7 20 58 > b depth value 1 10 10 2 12 20 3 14 35 I want to show both groups in one figure plotted with depth and with different symbols as you can see here plot(a$value, a$depth, type='b', col='green', pch=15) points(b$value, b$depth, type='b', col='red', pch=14) The plot seems okay, but the annoying part is that the green symbols are all connected (though I want connected lines also). I want connection only when one group has a continued data points at 2 m interval i.e. the symbols should be connected with a line from 2 to 8 m (green) and then group B symbols should be connected from 10-14 m (red) and again group A symbols should be connected (green), which means I do NOT want to see the connection between 8 m sample with the 16 m for group A. An easy solution may be dividing the group A into two parts (say, A-shallow and A-deep) and then plotting A-shallow, B, and A-deep separately. But this is completely impractical because I have thousands of data points with hundreds of groups i.e. I have to produce many depth profiles. Therefore, there has to be a way to program so that dots are NOT connected beyond a prescribed frequency/depth interval (e.g. 2 m in this case) for a particular group of samples. Any idea?
