  I was setting my local Apache server to run Python cgi, then I came with the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /hw10/main.cgi on this server. • IIS 7.5, Multiple Application Pools, and URL Rewriting (403.18 -- Forbidden)

  Is there any way to configure IIS 7.5 to perform URL rewrites to different application pools on the same site without running into a 403.18 error? We're using Helicon ISAPI Rewrite 3 on IIS 6 and it's working like a charm. The root-level "application" is running under it's own application pool, and on IIS 6 we have no problems doing URL rewrites from that application pool to any one of the other four application pools. But when I copy the same server configuration information over to IIS 7.5 the URL rewrites to any of the other application pools fail with a "403.18 -- Forbidden" error. The weird bit is that the IIS 6 is not (at least as far as I can tell, by looking at the site Service configuration dialog) running under IIS 5 emulation mode, so somehow the rewrites aren't throwing 403.18 errors. So something must be different... but whatever it is, I sure haven't been able to figure it out. Btw, we're not married to Helicon ISAPI Rewrite. If there's another way to preserve our current rewrite configuration rules using another module or method I'd be more than happy to use it.

• Mod_rewrite (CakePHP routing functionality) forbidden after Snow Leopard upgrade

  Hello ServerFault, I am using the standard Apple-provided installations of PHP 5.3 and Apache 2 to do web development on a Mac Pro that I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). The upgrade went well enough, if I ignore the fact that it destroyed my ability to get work done. ;) After the update, the CakePHP application I was developing started giving me 403 Forbidden errors when accessed. Based on the errors in the log file, I've determined that Apache is choking on the mod_rewrite rules in Cake's .htaccess file. Here's the file, in its entirety: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> It's not that the rules themselves are wrong, but that Apache is forbidding the use of mod_rewrite altogether. All other pages on the machine work fine, and the 403 errors go away if I comment out the .htaccess file (but nothing works, of course). In my httpd.conf file, I've tried changing this: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny,allow Deny from all </Directory> To this: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> ...which has no effect. I don't know much about Apache configuration files, and I'm quite stuck on this. In fact, I know little enough that I'm not sure which information about my setup is needed to enable people to provide useful answers. I'm just using the vanilla OS X setup, nothing fancy. Googling has yielded no fruits for me this time, so I'm turning to you. Any ideas?

• Apache 403 Forbidden Error when accessing local web server using local IP address

  I have an odd problem when attempting to browse to pages stored on a local web server (Apache 2.2). The pages are served as expected when I browse to localhost or 127.0.0.1 on port 80. Yet when I attempt to browse to the same pages by referencing the local IP address (192.168.x.x), I receive a HTTP 403 (Forbidden) error. In essence, http://localhost:80 works but 192.168.x.x:80 doesn't even though I'm specifying the IP of the local machine. You may be thinking "who cares? just use localhost". However, this is the first step in troubleshooting why I cannot remotely access these pages from different hosts on my LAN. I'm presuming this can't be a firewall issue as I'm only connecting to the local machine. Even so, I verified there was no iptables rules that could be having an effect. I've checked the Apache error logs and the corresponding line of relevance is: [Sat Oct 19 07:38:35 2013] [error] [client 192.168.x.x] client denied by server configuration: /var/www/ I've inspected most of the apache config files and they don't appear to differ from what you would expect with a default install. I can't see anything in apache2.conf that would be a problem and httpd.conf is an empty file. • 403 Forbidden When Using AuthzSVNAccessFile

  I've had a nicely functioning svn server running on windows that uses Apache for access. In the original setup every user had access to all repositories, but I recently needed the ability to grant a user only access to one repository. I uncommented the AuthzSVNAccessFile line in my httpd.conf file and pointed it to an accessfile and setup the access file, but I get a 403 Forbidden when I go to mydomain.com/svn . If I recomment out this line then things work again. I also made sure I uncommented the LoadModule authz_svn_module and verified that it was point to the correct file. Below is the Location section of my httpd.conf and my svnaccessfile httpd.conf (location section only) <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNParentPath C:\svn SVNListParentPath on AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repositories" AuthUserFile passwd Require valid-user AuthzSVNAccessFile svnaccessfile </Location> (I want a more complex policy in the long run but just did this to test the file out) svnaccessfile [svn:/] * = rw I have also tried just the below for the svnaccessfile.   I just installed Apache 2.4 today, and I'm having some issues getting vhost configuration to work correctly. When I go to the site, I receive a 403 forbidden error. The www-data group is the group on the www folder, which I've already given all permissions (r/w/x). I'm really at a loss as to why this is happening. Any thoughts? If I remove the vhost and go straight to the IP address, I get the default, "It works!" page. So I know that it's working. • NGINX AEGIR DRUPAL permissions 403 forbidden

  New to nginx Installed on mac os for use with aegir & drupal It's running great, but I have a problem with permissions My hostmaster installation is here : /var/aegir/hostmaster-6.x-1.7/ The hostmaster settings file here : /var/aegir/hostmaster-6.x-1.7/sites/aegir.ldev/settings.php Permissions for settings.php are set to 440 automatically by hostmaster, but I'm getting a 403 forbidden page because of this. If I give read permission to "other" the site works great (444 or even 004). Drupal is also telling me that the file system paths are not writable (sites/aegir.ldev/files & sites/aegir.ldev/private). I would have to change the permissions there too. Moreover, I would also have to change permissions for every site installed by hostmaster. Anyway. In my nginx.conf I have the following : user "myuser" _www; Owner and group for settings.php, /sites/example.ldev/files, /sites/example.ldev/private are "myuser" and "_www". Changing permissions to 004 solves this problem, but really confuses me. Why do "other" have permission and not owner or group? I've checked the processes running in activity monitor. Nginx is running as "myuser". Except for one process running as root. So I'm stumped. Hope someone can help.

I uncommented the line Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf on /etc/apache2/httpd.conf. • 403 Forbidden Error when trying to view localhost on Apache

  I think my Apache must be all screwed up. I don't know if it ever worked. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and the first step on this tutorial is to start apache and check that it's working by opening http://localhost. It starts fine but when I go to localhost I get a 403 forbidden error. I don't know where to start figuring out how to fix it, so I wonder if a fresh install of Apache would do the trick. What do you think? Update: I found some error logs in /private/var/log/apache2/. Found this in one of the logs. I found the file that had the virtual host definitions. It was in /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf. It had those two dummy virtual host settings in there. I added a localhost virtual host. After removing the old virtual hosts, adding my new localhost virtual host, and restarting apache, it seems to work. So I guess whenever I want to add a virtual host, I only need to add them to this file? Or is there a hosts file somewhere, like there is on Linux? Update: Yes, there is an /etc/hosts file that need to be changed to. Add the virtual host name to that file.

• Apache returns 403 Forbidden for alternative port vhost

  I'm having an issue getting vhosts to work on Apache 2.2, Debian 6. I have two VirtualHosts, one on port 80 and one on port 8888. The port 80 one has been created automatically by DirectAdmin, the 8888 is a custom one. It's configuration is as follows. <VirtualHost *:8888 > DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html/development ServerName www.myserver.nl ServerAlias myserver.nl <Directory "/home/user/public_html/development"> Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks +MultiViews AllowOverride All Order Allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Of course I also have a NameVirtualHost *:8888 The port 80 DocumentRoot is /home/user/public_html/production, which is perfectly accessible and works like a charm. The port 8888 docroot of /home/user/public_html/development is 403 forbidden though. I have compared the permissions for both folders. They seem fine to me. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 17 16:14 development drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Aug 18 04:29 production Also, the index.php file which is supposed to display when accessing through port 8888, located in /development/: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 41 Aug 17 16:14 index.html I have looked at my error_log and found many of the following entries, only being added to the log file when accessing through port 8888. It seems that everything is readable or executable. I've set the Directory to FollowSymLinks in the httpd.conf file, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. If I change that directory tag to <Directory "/home/admin/public_html"> (so it has FollowSymLinks on that as well) it still does not work. Any help is greatly appreciated. If I need to post more information, let me know. I'm pretty much a beginner at this stuff. .. .. UPDATE: I ended up changing the configuration to directly go to the actual path of the files, avoiding the public_html symlink altogether. That worked. Thanks for the suggestions folks. DocumentRoot /home/user/domains/mydomain/public_html/development instead of DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html/development

• Facebook links to my site resolve as 403 forbidden

  Hi I'm experiencing a super weird problem. Whenever I post links to my website on Facebook, they come up as Forbidden. The site itself works great and I have no seen this when linking on other sites. Could this be a server misconfiguration? Any thoughts on where to look? here's some Info: I have a dedicated server running WHM 11.25.0 i have 2 sites hosted here using cPanel 11.25.0 the error msg: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.   I am trying to make a sitescraper. I made it on my local machine and it works very fine there. When I execute the same on my server, it shows a 403 forbidden error. I am using the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser. The error I get on the server is this: Warning: file_get_contents(http://example.com/viewProperty.html?id=7715888) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden in /home/scraping/simple_html_dom.php on line 40 The line of code triggering it is: $url="http://www.example.com/viewProperty.html?id=".$id; $html=file_get_html($url); I have checked the php.ini on the server and allow_url_fopen is On. Possible solution can be using curl, but I need to know where I am going wrong.

The idea is that I would like to have for every customer a folder like /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/[PROJECT NAME]/CustomerProjects/website/dist. All the pages that I found following the same steps as described above. I know there are similar questions here on the internet, but the answer is to change permission to the directory which I did on Step2. • .htaccess - permissions forbidden

  I have an error with a new virtual host that I can't figure out.. My .htaccess doesn't have web access (403). [Thu Oct 31 17:51:01 2013] [crit] [client ] (13)Permission denied: /srv/data_disk/www /site.dev/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I have set the permissions for the complete htdocs folder to 755, and to owned by my regular user and group (www-data). I have other vhosts set up with the same user and lesser permissions (rw-rw---) on the .htaccess. The virtual hosts are also setup in the same way.. as far a I can tell.. Thanks!

  I have this .htaccess file in one directory on my site: <limit GET> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 123.456.789 </limit> ErrorDocument 403 403.html It blocks everyone except for one IP. However, when an invalid IP visits, it does not show the 403.html file, but it just shows the text "403.html" on the page. When I try to directly visit the 403.html page on the directory, it gets the same message too.

• Sharepoint Services 3.0: 403 Forbidden fun

  Can't get to the Administration or the "companyweb" site itself; was working up to a week ago. Old threads, blog posts, etc. indicate that there was an issue with a KB update but was resolved when .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 was deployed/installed. Running Process Monitor, I can see a lot of PATH NOT FOUND','NAME NOT FOUND for c:\inetpub\companyweb\Default.aspx, \_themes\ice\...\foo.css, etc. for the w3wp.exe process on CreateFileorQueryOpenoperations. These files do not exist in the location specified. I don't recall these files actually existing in that folder, but I believe they're "created" when requested, pulled in from Common Files/Shared or whatever, in typically-awesome Microsoft Web architecture land (</rant>). Besides reinstalling (which I'm sure will be as much fun as migrating from one server to another was), anyone know what's going on? Google-fu has alluded me.

• Apache "No Permission" - 403 forbidden

  I've accidentally performed a wrong chown update this morning and now my /var/www permissions are all wrong. I'm unable to access anything anymore, apache will always say I do not have permission to view this page, like: You don't have permission to access / on this server. (even after chmodding everything to 777, or chowning it to www-data) Does anyone have any clue on what's going wrong?

• 403 Forbidden when trying to download file that was uploaded using SSH

  I have FTP access to an Apache server on linux to upload files so that they can be downloadable from the web. I recently was granted SSH access for extra permissions and figured that it would be quicker to download the files directly to the server, instead of downloading them to my machine then FTPing to the server. When I downloaded a file using SSH to the server, and then placed it in the public_html directory, it was not visible from the web. The permissions (from SSH and the FTP client) were the same as all the other files that are visible, but it was not visible in the directory listing, and if I tried to type in the filename into my browser I would get a 403 error. Obviously, when I FTP a file to the server something else happens that makes it web visible, that I am not currently privy to. What am I missing that is causing the file to be invisible from the web?

My guess is that there needs to be some more configuration in this file to allow access to localhost. I could not find anything relevant . Thanks
