  • Error compiling GLib in Ubuntu 14.04 (trying to install GimpShop)

    - by Nicolás Salvarrey
I'm kinda new in Linux, so please take it easy on the most complicated stuff. I'm trying to install GimpShop. Installation guide asks me to install GLib first, and when I try to compile it using the make command I get errors. When I run the ./configure --prefix=/usr command, I get this: checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... no checking for mawk... mawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu checking for the BeOS... no checking for Win32... no checking whether to enable garbage collector friendliness... no checking whether to disable memory pools... no checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for gcc option to accept ANSI C... none needed checking for style of include used by make... • Can't compile CentOS 5, Ruby 1.9.2 and OpenSSL 1.0.0c

    - by pstinnett
I'm trying to install Ruby 1.9.2 on CentOS 5.5. I get through most of the make process, but when it tries to compile OpenSSL I get an error. Below is the errror outputted: compiling openssl make[1]: Entering directory `/sources/ruby-1.9.2-p136/ext/openssl' gcc -I. -I../../.ext/include/x86_64-linux -I../.././include -I../.././ext/openssl -DRUBY_EXTCONF_H=\"extconf.h\" -fPIC -O3 -ggdb -Wextra -Wno-unused-parameter -Wno-parentheses -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -Wno-missing-field-initializers -Wno-long-long -o ossl_x509.o -c ossl_x509.c In file included from ossl.h:201, from ossl_x509.c:11: openssl_missing.h:71: error: conflicting types for ‘HMAC_CTX_copy’ /usr/include/openssl/hmac.h:102: error: previous declaration of ‘HMAC_CTX_copy’ was here openssl_missing.h:95: error: conflicting types for ‘EVP_CIPHER_CTX_copy’ /usr/include/openssl/evp.h:459: error: previous declaration of ‘EVP_CIPHER_CTX_copy’ was here make[1]: *** [ossl_x509.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/sources/ruby-1.9.2-p136/ext/openssl' make: *** [mkmain.sh] Error 1 Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm not a master at Linux by any means, but I was able to successfully install this version of Ruby on our dev server. Our live server is running a newer version of OpenSSL which I'm assuming is why it's breaking. Just not sure what the fix is!

  • Can't build gcc anymore since upgrade to 11.10

    - by Raphael R.
On Monday I've upgraded to from Ubuntu 11.04 (my initial installation) to 11.10 and now I can't build gcc from source anymore. Since I forgot to uninstall the gcc package before the upgrade, Ubuntu replaced my 4.7.0 compiler with it's stable 4.6.1. So I tried to build the SVN sources again, but it fails. I've most recently tried it with SVN revision 180193. After some time, the build fails with the following message: /home/raphael/devel/gcc/build/./gcc/xgcc -B/home/raphael/devel/gcc/build/./gcc/ -B/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ -B/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/lib/ -isystem /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/include -isystem /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/sys-include -g -O2 -O2 -I. -I. -I../../src/gcc -I../../src/gcc/. -I../../src/gcc/../include -I../../src/gcc/../libdecnumber -I../../src/gcc/../libdecnumber/bid -I../libdecnumber -I../../src/gcc/../libgcc -g -O2 -DIN_GCC -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wcast-qual -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wold-style-definition -isystem ./include -fPIC -g -DHAVE_GTHR_DEFAULT -DIN_LIBGCC2 -fbuilding-libgcc -fno-stack-protector -I. -I. -I../.././gcc -I../../../src/libgcc -I../../../src/libgcc/. -I../../../src/libgcc/../gcc -I../../../src/libgcc/../include -I../../../src/libgcc/config/libbid -DENABLE_DECIMAL_BID_FORMAT -DHAVE_CC_TLS -DUSE_TLS -o _ashldi3.o -MT _ashldi3.o -MD -MP -MF _ashldi3.dep -DL_ashldi3 -c ../../../src/libgcc/../gcc/libgcc2.c \ -fvisibility=hidden -DHIDE_EXPORTS In file included from /usr/include/stdio.h:28:0, from ../../../src/libgcc/../gcc/tsystem.h:88, from ../../../src/libgcc/../gcc/libgcc2.c:29: /usr/include/features.h:323:26: fatal error: bits/predefs.h: File or directory not found. I've cofigured it with: ~/devel/gcc/build$ ../src/configure --prefix=/usr --enable-languages=c++ And make it with: ~/devel/gcc/build$ make -j4 Just to be sure, I did a rm -rf * in the build directory in case there's some broken stuff inside. Didn't help, though. That's the backstory. I tried to fix it and searched for the bits/predefs.h. It's inside /usr/include/i386-linux-gnu. I temporarily fixed the problem by doing ~/devel/gcc/build$ C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/i386-linux-gnu make -j4 Which is only temporary because now gcc complains that it can't find crti.o. Which i can find in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu. Now i could also set C_LIBRARY_PATH - actually it doesn't work - but I feel like I'm fighting the system here. Also, even if it succeeds, my newly built compiler would also not know about the i386-linux-gnu stuff. So I would have to set C_LIBRARY_PATH and C_INCLUDE_PATH before every build of every project I have. I could add it to my .bashrc but that subverts the system even more. So, how do I tell the build process: That there are additional include/lib directories, and That it should build a gcc which respects them too? Edit: I forgot to include the command which causes the above error message. Also I can think of another solution: Copy the stuff from /usr/include/i386-linux-gnu to /usr/include (same thing for /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu to /usr/lib). But that doesn't feel right, either. Finally, the system's gcc 4.6.1 can compile other applications just fine, except mine, which use C++11 features not present in the 4.6 series.

  • Is this error caused by a 64-bit library being accessed by a Java program running in a 32-bit JVM?

    - by Mike
I'm trying to create a simple Java app that uses JNI to call some native functions. I've followed the examples in the JNI Programming Guide and can't seem to get them to work. I have the following Hello World program, written in Java: class HelloWorld { private native void print(); public static void main(String [] args) { new HelloWorld().print(); } static { System.load("/home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so"); } } I compile it using javac HelloWorld.java, just like normal. Then I run javah -jni HelloWorld, and finally the following: gcc34 -shared -fpic -o libHelloWorld.so -I/<path to JDK>/include -I/<path to JDK>/include/linux HelloWorld.c gcc34 is the name of the GCC program on my machine here at work (I don't control that) and I obviously place the real path to the JDK in that command. When I run my program, using the standard java HelloWorld, I get an error saying the following: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so: /home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 (Possible causes: architecture word width mismatch) at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(ClassLoader.java:1778) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1674) at java.lang.Runtime.load0(Runtime.java:770) at java.lang.System.load(System.java:1003) at HelloWorld.<clinit>(HelloWorld.java:8) Could not find the main class: HelloWorld. Program will exit. I know I'm running a 32-bit JVM (and unfortunately, as of right now, I'm not allowed to get a 64-bit JVM). I tried telling GCC to compile in 32-bit mode using the "-m32" option, but we don't have (and again, can't get) what we need for that. Does this sound like a 32/64-bit conflict or something else?

  • Making a 64 bit shared library that dynamically links to a 32 bit library on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    - by carneades
Update: After some more reading I see that this problem is totally general, you can't mix architectures in the same process, so 64 bit Java cannot dlopen() a 32 bit library like FMOD. Is there any possible workaround for this, keeping in mind I'm writing my own C interface to the FMOD library? I need to make a 64-bit dylib on Max OS X because Java Native Access only likes 64-bit libraries on 64-bit machines. The problem is, my C source code dynamically includes FMOD which on Mac only provides 32-bit dylibs. When I try to compile without the -m32 option (since I must output a 64-bit dylib) I get the following error: gcc -dynamiclib -std=c99 -pedantic -Wall -O3 -fPIC -pthread -o ../bin/libpenntotalrecall_fmod.dylib ../../src/libpenntotalrecall_fmod.c -lfmodex -L../../lib/osx/ ld: warning: in /usr/lib/libfmodex.dylib, missing required architecture x86_64 in file Undefined symbols: "_FMOD_System_CreateSound", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Channel_GetPosition", referenced from: _streamPosition in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_Create", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_PlaySound", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Sound_Release", referenced from: _stopPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Channel_IsPlaying", referenced from: _playbackInProgress in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_Update", referenced from: _streamPosition in ccJnlwrd.o _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Channel_SetPaused", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_Release", referenced from: _stopPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_Init", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Channel_SetVolume", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_System_Close", referenced from: _stopPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o "_FMOD_Channel_SetCallback", referenced from: _startPlayback in ccJnlwrd.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [all] Error 1 Shouldn't it be possible to get a 64 bit dylib from my source code that dynamically includes 32 bit libraries?!

  • Unable to find reference to std library math function inside library

    - by Alex Marshall
Hello, I've got several programs that use shared libraries. Those shared libraries in turn use various standard C libraries. ie Program A and Program B both use Shared Library S. Shared Library S uses std C math. I want to be able to statically link Shared Library S against the standard library, and then statically link Programs A and B against S so that I don't have to be dragging around the library files, because these programs are going to be running on an embedded system running BusyBox 0.61. However, when I try to statically link the programs against Shared Library S, I get an error message from GCC stating : ../lib/libgainscalecalc.a(gainscalecalc.): In function 'float2gs': [path to my C file].c:73: undefined reference to 'log' Can somebody please help me out ? • gcc compilation without using system defined header locations

    - by bogertron
I am attempting to compile a c++ class using gcc. Due to the nature of the build, I need to invoke gcc from a non-standard location and include non-system defined headers, only to add a set from a different location. However, when I do this, I run into an issue where I cannot find some base symbols (suprise suprise). So i am basically running this command to compile my code: -->(PARENT_DIR)/usr/bin/gcc # invoke compiler -B$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/lib64/gcc/suselinux-x8664 -B$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/lib64 #C/C++ flags -fPIC -fvisibility=default -g -c -Wall -m64 -nostdinc # source files -I$(SRC_DIR_ONE)/ -I$(SRC_DIR_TWO) -I../include # 'Mock' include the system header files -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/c++/$(GCC_VERSION) -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/c++/$(GCC_VERSION)/backward -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/c++/$(GCC_VERSION)/x86_64-suse-linux -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/lib64/x86_64-suse-linux/$(GCC_VERSION)/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/$(GCC_VERSION)/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/$(GCC_VERSION)/include-fixed -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/src/linux/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/x86_64-suse-linux/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/suselinux-x8664 -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/suselinux-x8664/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include -I$(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/linux file.cpp I am getting several errors which indicate that the base headers are not being included: such as: $(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/c++/$(GCC_VERSION)/cstddef ::prtdiff_t has not been declared $(PARENT_DIR)/usr/include/c++/$(GCC_VERSION)/cstddef ::size_t has not bee declared. Is there something that I am doing wrong when I include the header file directories? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

  • How would I instruct extconf.rb to use additional g++ optimization flags, and which are advisable?

    - by mohawkjohn
I'm using Rice to write a C++ extension for a Ruby gem. The extension is in the form of a shared object (.so) file. This requires 'mkmf-rice' instead of 'mkmf', but the two (AFAIK) are pretty similar. By default, the compiler uses the flags -g -O2. Personally, I find this kind of silly, since it's hard to debug with any optimization enabled. I've resorted to editing the Makefile to take out the flags I don't like (e.g., removing -fPIC -shared when I need to debug using main() instead of Ruby's hooks). But I figure there's got to be a better way. I know I can just do $CPPFLAGS += " -DRICE" to add additional flags. But how do I remove things without editing the Makefile directly? A secondary question: what optimizations are safe for shared objects loaded by Ruby? Can I do things like -funroll-loops? What do you all recommend? It's a scientific computing project, so the faster the better. Memory is not much of an issue. Many thanks!

  • AIX 6.1 unable to build apache module

    - by user3715581
In Aix 6.1/ Apache version 2.2.8 packaged as part of IBM WebSphere. We should have had mod_dumpio for this version but for some reasons IBM did not include it. So we are trying to build this module(in few many ways) but none of them worked. 1) Using apxs:- Failed with the "xlc_r" not found as compile option for libtool. So based on an article online, we changed to "gcc" and we have to remove -qmaxmem and -qHALT to make it work. Result we see a .lo created but LoadModule fails(unable to find .loader section). 2) Using gcc:- Command "gcc -fpic -DSHARED_MODULE -I -c mod_dumpio.c" After running this command, we can see .o file created and then we tried to execute "ld -Bshareable -o mod_dumpio.so mod_dumpio.o" whereas AIX complaining about -Bshareable so we tried using this command "gcc -shared -I -o mod_dumpio.so mod_dumpio.o" whereas the error was "libgcc_s" not found. Then we added -static-libgcc to the above command and it was not resolving .h file functions (Unknown symbols). From IBM AIX site, libgcc_s costs around $2k. We think our second approach may work but we dont know how to instruct gcc to look for .h files while building .so from .o. Any help is appreciated.

  • script to recursively check for and select dependencies

    - by rp.sullivan
I have written a script that does this but it is one of my first scripts ever so i am sure there is a better way:) Let me know how you would go about doing this. I'm looking for a simple yet efficient way to do this. Here is some important background info: ( It might be a little confusing but hopefully by the end it will make sense. ) 1) This image shows the structure/location of the relevant dirs and files. 2) The packages.file located at ./config/default/config/packages is a space delimited file. field5 is the "package name" which i will call $a for explanations sake. field4 is the name of the dir containing the $a.dir i will call $b field1 shows if the package is selected or not, "X"(capital x) for selected and "O"(capital o as in orange) for not selected. Here is an example of what the packages.file might contain: ... X ---3------ 104.800 database gdbm 1.8.3 / base/library CROSS 0 O -1---5---- 105.000 base libiconv 1.13.1 / base/tool CROSS 0 X 01---5---- 105.000 base pkgconfig 0.25 / base/tool CROSS 0 X -1-3------ 105.000 base texinfo 4.13a / base/tool CROSS DIETLIBC 0 O -----5---- 105.000 develop duma 2_5_15 / base/development CROSS NOPARALLEL 0 O -----5---- 105.000 develop electricfence 2_4_13 / base/development CROSS 0 O -----5---- 105.000 develop gnupth 2.0.7 / extra/development CROSS NOPARALLEL FPIC-QUIRK 0 ... 3) For almost every package listed in the "packages.file" there is a corresponding ".cache file" The .cache file for package $a would be located at ./package/$b/$a/$a.cache The .cache files contain a list of dependencies for that particular package. Here is an example of one of the .cache files might look like. Note that the dependencies are field2 of lines containing "[DEP]" These dependencies are all names of packages in the "package.file" [TIMESTAMP] 1134178701 Sat Dec 10 02:38:21 2005 [BUILDTIME] 295 (9) [SIZE] 11.64 MB, 191 files [DEP] 00-dirtree [DEP] bash [DEP] binutils [DEP] bzip2 [DEP] cf [DEP] coreutils ... So with all that in mind... I'm looking for a shell script that: From within the "main dir" Looks at the ./config/default/config/packages file and finds the "selected" packages and reads the corresponding .cache Then compiles a list of dependencies that excludes the already selected packages Then selects the dependencies (by changing field1 to X) in the ./config/default/config/packages file and repeats until all the dependencies are met Note: The script will ultimately end up in the "scripts dir" and be called from the "main dir". If this is not clear let me know what need clarification. For those interested I'm playing around with T2 SDE. If you are into playing around with linux it might be worth taking a look.

  • Building Python 3.2.3 on redhat 5: missing _posixsubprocess

  • How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files

    - by yegor
Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark.
