  • Best way to store 3 pieces of data as a single entry

    - by Matt
For a game server, I want to record details when a player makes a kill, store this, and then at intervals update to a sql database. The part i'm interested in right now is the best method of storing the kill information. What i'd like to pass to the sql server on update would be {PlayerName, Kills, Deaths}, where the kills and deaths are a sum for the period between updates. So i'm assuming i'd build a list along the lines of {bob, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} {tom, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} then on update, consolidate the list to {frank, 14, 3}etc Can someone offer some advice please?

  • ruby in 100 minutes good_morning method issue

    - by user2525947
I have been doing the Ruby in 100 minutes on the JumpStart labs website, and encountered a problem during part 5. I was asked to create a good_morning method that would print out a greeting such as 'Happy Monday, it's the 130 day of 2013'. Here is my current program: class PersonalChef def good_morning today = Date.today.strftime("%A") day_of_year = Date.today.yday puts "Happy#{today}! It is the #{day_of_year} day of year." return self end def make_toast(color) puts " Making your toast #{color}!" return self end def make_milkshake(flavor) puts " Making a #{flavor} milkshake!" return self end def make_eggs(quantity) puts " Making you #{quantity} eggs!" return self end end when I try to run the program load on irb( 'personal_chef.rb', frank = PersonalChef.new, frank.make_milkshake('chocolate'), etc, everything works fine until I try to type frank.good_morning into irb, which gives the following error message: NameError: uninitialized constant PersonalChef :: Date from personal_chef.rb:5: in good_morning from (irb):3 from /bin/irb:12:in '' Any help or information to help me solve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

  • ArchBeat Link-o-Rama for 2012-09-19

    - by Bob Rhubart
BPM Process Accelerator Packs – Update | Pat Shepherd Architect Pat Shepherd shares several resources relevant to the new Oracle Process Accelerators for Oracle Business Process Management. Oracle BI EE Management Pack Now Available for Oracle Enterprise Manager 12cR2 | Mark Rittman A handy and informative overview from Oracle ACE Director Mark Rittman. WebSockets on WebLogic Server | Steve Button "As there's no standard WebSocket Java API at this point, we've chosen to model the API on the Grizzly WebSocket API with some minor changes where necessary," says James "Buttso" Buttons. "Once the results of JSR-356 (Java API for WebSocket) becomes public, we'll look to implement and support that." Oracle Reference Architecture: Software Engineering This document from the IT Strategies from Oracle library focuses on integrated asset management and the need for efffective asset metadata management to insure that assets are properly tracked and reused in a manner that provides a holistic functional view of the enterprise. The tipping point for cloud management is nigh | Cloud Computing - InfoWorld "Businesses typically don't think too much about managing IT resources until they become too numerous and cumbersome to deal with on an ad hoc basis—a point many companies will soon hit in their adoption of cloud computing." — David Linthicum DevOps Basics: Track Down High CPU Thread with ps, top and the new JDK7 jcmd Tool | Frank Munz "The approach is very generic and works for WebLogic, Glassfish or any other Java application," say Frank Munz. "UNIX commands in the example are run on CentOS, so they will work without changes for Oracle Enterprise Linux or RedHat. Creating the thread dump at the end of the video is done with the jcmd tool from JDK7." Frank has captured the process in the posted video. OIM 11g R2 UI customization | Daniel Gralewski "OIM user interface customizations are easier now, and they survive patch applications--there is no need to reapply them after patching," says Fusion Middleware A-Team member Daniel Gralewski. "Adding new artifacts, new skins, and plugging code directly into the user interface components became an easier task." Daniel shows just how easy in this post. Thought for the Day "I have yet to see any problem, however complicated, which, when looked at in the right way, did not become still more complicated." — Poul Anderson (November 25, 1926 – July 31, 2001) Source: SoftwareQuotes.com

  • OpenBSD pf 'match in all scrub (no-df)' causes HTTPS to be unreachable on mobile network

    - by Frank ter V.
First of all: excuse me for my poor usage of the English language. For several years I'm experiencing problems with the 'match in all scrub (no-df)' rule in pf. I can't find out what's happening here. I'll try to be clear and simple. The pf.conf has been extremely shortened for this forum posting. Here is my pf.conf: set skip on lo0 match in all scrub (no-df) block all block in quick from urpf-failed pass in on em0 proto tcp from any to 213.125.xxx.xxx port 80 synproxy state pass in on em0 proto tcp from any to 213.125.xxx.xxx port 443 synproxy state pass out on em0 from 213.125.xxx.xxx to any modulate state HTTP and HTTPS are working fine. Until the moment a customer in France (Wanadoo DSL) couldn't view HTTPS pages! I blamed his provider and did no investigation on that problem. But then... I bought an Android Samsung Galaxy SII (Vodafone) to monitor my servers. Hours after I walked out of the telephone store: no HTTPS-connections on my server! I thought my servers were down, drove back to the office very fast. But they were up. I discovered that disabling the rule match in all scrub (no-df) solves the problem. Android phone (Vodafone NL) and Wanadoo DSL FR are now OK on HTTPS. But now I don't have any scrubbing anymore. This is not what I want. Does anyone here understand what is going on? I don't. Enabling scrubbing causes HTTPS webpages not to be loaded on SOME ISP's, but not all. In systat, I strangely DO see a state created and packets received from those ISP's... Still confused. I'm using OpenBSD 5.1/amd64 and OpenBSD 5.0/i386. I have two ISP's at my office (one DSL and one cable). Affects both. This can be reproduced quite easily. I hope someone has experience with this problem. Greetings, Frank

  • Calling WCF Service from Action Script 2

    - by Frank
Hi All, I am a .NET programmer working with a Flash designer on a project. The design is that they will create a flash UI (implemented with AS2) to present a questionnaire. After it is completed by an end user, the will send me (a .net web service of some form) the answers to the questionnaire, I will perform a calculation, and I will send a response back (the response will likely be a single integer, though it may be a touple of (integer score, string description). Neither myself nor the designer is knowledgeable of Action Script. Does anyone have a snippet for such web service calls in AS2? Are there any soap libraries for AS2 that we could use, or should I expose a RESTful interface? Can it be as simple as having the designer concat the questionnaire answers into the query string of the service URL? What would be a typical data format for my response (xml, json, plain text) Thanks in advance for your help. Frank

  • Cocoa Application with Menubar but no Dock Icon / switch menu

    - by Frank R.
Hi, This is yet one more of those "how to switch from running with a dock icon to running without one" questions with a twist.. I don't want the dock icon but I do want a menu bar when the application is at the front. Is that possible? Running an application with LSUIElement set to 1 in the plist will launch the application without a dock icon, not showing up in the command-tab switch list and without a menu. You can switch from that mode to the "normal" mode with all three switched on via SetSystemModeUI from 10.2 onwards and via NSApplication setApplicationActivationPolicy since 10.6, but crucially there is no way back to the previous mode (go figure). So one way around this would be to launch with LSUIElement = 1 and then activate the menu bar when the application gets the focus and deactivate it on the application losing the focus.. alas I can't find a way of doing that. Can anybody help? Best regards, Frank

  • Java File URI error ?

I need to get a file object online, and I know the file is located at : http://nmjava.com/Dir_App_IDs/Dir_GlassPaneDemo/GlassPaneDemo_2010_04_06_15_00_SNGRGLJAMX If I paste it into my browser's url, I'll be able to download this file, now I'm trying to get it with Java, my code looks like this : String File_Url="http://nmjava.com/Dir_App_IDs/Dir_GlassPaneDemo/GlassPaneDemo_2010_04_06_15_00_SNGRGLJAMX"; Object myObject=Get_Online_File(new URI(File_Url)); Object Get_Online_File(URI File_Uri) throws IOException { return readObject(new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream(new File(File_Uri)))); } public static synchronized Object readObject(ObjectInput in) throws IOException { Object o; ...... return o; } But I got the following error message : java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: URI scheme is not "file" at java.io.File.<init>(File.java:366) Why ? • Html index page and files in that directory

    - by Frank
On my web site, there is an index page, but if I take out that index page, users will see the files in that directory, for instance my site is : XYZ.com and I have a directory called "My_Dir", so when a user typed in "XYZ.com/My_Dir" he will see the index.html if there is one, but if it's not there, he will see a list of all my files inside "My_Dir", so is it safe to assume that with an index page in any of my sub directories, I can hide all the files in those directories from users, in other words if I have "123.txt, abc.html and index.html" in "My_Dir", users won't be able to see "123.txt, abc.html" because of the existence of "index.html" [ unless of course I mention those two files inside index.html ] ? • Does my AMD-based machine use little endian or big endian?

    - by Frank
I'm going though a computers system course and I'm trying to establish, for sure, if my AMD based computer is a little endian machine? I believe it is because it would be Intel-compatible. Specifically, my processor is an AMD 64 Athlon x2. I understand that this can matter in C programming. I'm writing C programs and a method I'm using would be affected by this. I'm trying to figure out if I'd get the same results if I ran the program on an Intel based machine (assuming that is little endian machine). Finally, let me ask this: Would any and all machines capable of running Windows (XP, Vista, 2000, Server 2003, etc) and, say, Ubuntu Linux desktop be little endian? Thank You, Frank

  • Java program strange behavior, how to fix it ?

    - by Frank
My notebook has Intel CPU, running Windows Vista. My program looks like this : public class Tool_Lib_Simple { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("123"); } } When I run it, I expect to see : "123", but the output was : "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" which was the old output from two days ago before I changed my program. If I copy this program into another project in Netbean 6.7, it will run correctly and output "123", and if I change the program name from "Tool_Lib_Simple" to something else, it will also output "123", but just not under the name of "Tool_Lib_Simple" in the current project's src directory, I've deleted the "build" directory and did re-compile, re-build, it still gives me "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" as a result, seems to me the old version of my program is saved in the hard drive or ram and got stuck there, I've programmed many years, hardly ever encounter this kind of problem, how to fix this ? I'm using Google App Engine to process Paypal IPN messages, when my servlet starts I use the following lines to start another process to process massages : public class PayPal_Monitor_Servlet extends HttpServlet { PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker PayPal_message_to_license_file_worker; public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException // Initializes the servlet. { super.init(config); PayPal_message_to_license_file_worker=new PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker(); } public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { } ... } public class PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker implements Runnable { static Thread PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread; ... PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker() { start(); } void start() { if (PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread==null) { PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread=new Thread(this); PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread.setPriority(Thread.MIN_PRIORITY); PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread.start(); } ... } But "PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread=new Thread(this);" is causing the following error : javax.servlet.ServletContext log: unavailable java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission modifyThreadGroup) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:355) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(AccessController.java:567) Why, how to fix it ? • Does Google App Engine allow creation of files and folders on the server ?

    - by Frank
    I know Google App Engine offers free space, but I wonder if it's for storing data in it's database only or does it also allow me to create files and directories on the server side to store my data ? For instance can I use the following method to save file ? public static void saveFile(String File_Path,StringBuffer Str_Buf,boolean Append) { FileOutputStream fos=null; BufferedOutputStream bos=null; try { fos=new FileOutputStream(File_Path,Append); bos=new BufferedOutputStream(fos); for (int j=0;j<Str_Buf.length();j++) bos.write(Str_Buf.charAt(j)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { try { if (bos!=null) { bos.close(); bos=null; } if (fos!=null) { fos.close(); fos=null; } } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } Frank

  • Program seems to get stuck ?

    - by Frank
I have a Java program, I did some change and the strange thing is no matter what I do now, it will output the same result before my change, I looked into my system (Windows Vista), and clicked on "Generate a system health report", the result says : Symptom : A service is reported as having an unexpected error code Cause : One or more services has failed. The service did not stop gracefully, suggesting the service may have crashed or one of its components stopped in an unsupported way. Details : Service exited with code not equal to 0 or 1077 Resolution : Restart the service It doesn't say which service, and I defragmented my drives a few times, it still gave me the same report. I also checked my memory, it says no problem with ram. Everything else is ok, I re-started the windows a few times, got more free space on my C: drive, yet the Java program is still not responding to my new changes, unless I intentionally make a mistake, it gives me compile error, but if it can compile successfully, it still gives me the results before the change. What can I do to fix this ? Frank

  • Copy NSArray and replace text items with bool values

    - by Frank Martin
I utilize a (nested) plist to populate UITableViews where users can select entries at the deepest levels and set a checkmark (or not). I want to save these selections in a same structured list where at the deepest level the NSArray contains bool values instead the text strings that are displayed in the UITableView. So how can i build from a hierarchy like the following: Root - Item 0 (Dictionary) - Group (Dictionary) - Items (NSArray) - Item 0: @"Please check me" (String) a hierarchy like this? Root - Item 0 (Dictionary) - Group (Dictionary) - Items (NSArray) - Item 0: 0 (NSNumber) // NSNumber for bool values I'm trying to create a deep mutable copy and replace the items at the deepest levels but have somehow the feeling that this can be done easier. Thanks for any help with this in advance. Frank

  • Cannot send email to info@ or support@

    - by user3022598
I am trying to send email from my gmail account to a couple user accounts I have on my new Centos server. The email is setup correctly and I can send receive from accounts ok except info and support. I tried to setup two users "info" and "support" I have a php form that sends out email that works fine for all users except info and support. To test this and make sure that something did not change from yesterday i just created a new user "frank" and tried the submit form and it worked fine. From my gmail account i can email "frank" however i cannot email "info" or "support" The logs I pulled are as follows and i think i see the issue but no idea how to fix it. Aug 15 12:20:55 mail postfix/qmgr[1568]: 1815C20A83: from=, size=1815, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 15 12:20:55 mail postfix/local[2270]: 1815C20A83: to=, relay=local, delay=0.28, delays=0.26/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to maildir) Aug 15 12:17:13 mail postfix/qmgr[1568]: 3C18520A7F: from=, size=1818, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 15 12:17:13 mail postfix/local[2201]: 3C18520A7F: to=, orig_to=, relay=local, delay=0.28, delays=0.25/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to maildir) Aug 15 12:15:24 mail postfix/qmgr[1568]: 2F79420A79: from=, size=1813, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 15 12:15:24 mail postfix/local[2155]: 2F79420A79: to=, orig_to=, relay=local, delay=0.29, delays=0.27/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to maildir) For some reason frank goes out fine, however support and info go to root? Why?

  • Ivar definitions show 'long' type encoding as 'long long' type encoding

    - by Frank C.
I've found what I think may be a bug with Ivar and Objective-C runtime. I'm using XCode 3.2.1 and associated libraries, developing a 64 bit app on X86_64 (MacBook Pro). Where I would expect the type encoding for the following "longVal" to be 'l', the Ivar encoding is showing a 'q' (which is a 'long long'). Anyone else seeing this? Simplified code and output follows: Code: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <objc/runtime.h> @interface Bug : NSObject { long longVal; long long longerVal; } @property (nonatomic, assign) long longVal; @property (nonatomic, assign) long long longerVal; @end @implementation Bug @synthesize longVal,longerVal; @end int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; unsigned int ivarCount=0; Ivar *ivars= class_copyIvarList([Bug class], &ivarCount); for(unsigned int x=0;x<ivarCount;x++) { NSLog(@"Name [%@] encoding [%@]", [NSString stringWithCString:ivar_getName(ivars[x]) encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding], [NSString stringWithCString:ivar_getTypeEncoding(ivars[x]) encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]); } [pool drain]; return 0; } And here is output from debug console: This GDB was configured as "x86_64-apple-darwin".tty /dev/ttys000 Loading program into debugger… sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all Program loaded. run [Switching to process 6048] Running… 2010-03-17 22:16:29.138 ivarbug[6048:a0f] Name [longVal] encoding [q] 2010-03-17 22:16:29.146 ivarbug[6048:a0f] Name [longerVal] encoding [q] (gdb) continue Not a pretty picture! -- Frank

  • How to get Processor and Motherboard Id ?

    - by Frank
I use the code from http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0580.html to get Motherboard Id, but the result is "null", <1 How can that be ? <2 Also I modified the code a bit to look like this to get processor Id : "Set objWMIService = GetObject(\"winmgmts:\\\\.\\root\\cimv2\")\n"+ "Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery _ \n"+ " (\"Select * from Win32_Processor\") \n"+ "For Each objItem in colItems \n"+ " Wscript.Echo objItem.ProcessorId \n"+ " exit for ' do the first cpu only! \n"+ "Next \n"; The result is something like : ProcessorId = BFEBFBFF00010676 On http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa389273%28VS.85%29.aspx it says : ProcessorId : Processor information that describes the processor features. For an x86 class CPU, the field format depends on the processor support of the CPUID instruction. If the instruction is supported, the property contains 2 (two) DWORD formatted values. The first is an offset of 08h-0Bh, which is the EAX value that a CPUID instruction returns with input EAX set to 1. The second is an offset of 0Ch-0Fh, which is the EDX value that the instruction returns. Only the first two bytes of the property are significant and contain the contents of the DX register at CPU reset—all others are set to 0 (zero), and the contents are in DWORD format. I don't quite understand it, in plain English, is it unique or just a number for this class of processors, for instance all Intel Core2 Duo P8400 will have this number ? Frank

  • How to avoid XCode framework weak-linking problems?

    - by Frank R.
Hi, I'm building an application that takes advantage of Mac OS X 10.6-only technologies, but without giving up backwards compatibility to 10.5 Leopard. The way I do this is by setting the 10.6 SDK as the base SDK, weak-linking all frameworks and setting the deployment target to 10.5 as described in: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPFrameworks/Concepts/WeakLinking.html This works fine; before making a call that is Snow Leopard-only I need to check that the selector or indeed the class actually exist. Or I can just check the OS version before making the call. The problem is that this is incredibly fragile. If I make a single call that is 10.6 only I blow Leopard-compatibility. So using even the normal code code completion feature can be dangerous. My question: is there any way of checking which calls are not defined on 10.5 before doing a release build? Some kind of static analysis, or even just a trick (a target set the other SDK?) would do. I obviously should test on a Leopard machine before releasing anything, but even so I can't possibly go through all paths of the program before every release. Any advice would be appreciated. Best regards, Frank
