  • vim on Windows -Turn syntax highlighting OFF

    I have downloaded Vim 7.4 on Windows 7 64 bit, and would like to turn off syntax highlighting. I have been using Vim for a long time on Unix, so I know to place "syntax off" in my vimrc. However, even though "syntax off" is in my vimrc, for some reason when I edit my vimrc the syntax highlighting is always on. I have deleted every other vimrc on my system (listed in the output of :version) except for my $HOME\_vimrc, but the syntax highlighting is still there (even after creating new cmd's). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Is there a way to permanently remove highlighting from editable areas within a protected word document? This is in relation to a previous question I had on locking portions of a Word Document located here: http://superuser.com/questions/143860/can-i-lock-or-make-uneditable-portions-of-a-word-document Using this solution, any editable area is highlighted. You can uncheck the Highlight editable area box within the Protect Document bar but if you save and reopen the area is highlighted again. The document is on a network drive. If another user were to open the document it would also be highlighted. Is there anyway to permanently turn this highlighting off so that when a user accesses the document from the network they do not see this highlighting? Using Word 2007.

    I've a blog hosted on WordPress.com, and i've buyed the "Custom CSS" update to modify CSS. Now I want to change some CSS options of Syntax Highlighting provided by Wordpress.com. For example, i want that [code lang="C"] int main() { } [/code] will be displayed with a black background instead of standard white one. I've added in Wordpress.com Appareance > Modify CSS the following code: .syntaxhighlighter { background-color: black !important; } As explained here, but it doesn't works. Any idea?

  • VS2005 SQL Syntax highlighting is incorrect for nested comments?

    I'm working with VS2005, and SSMS 2005. SQL Server allows nested comments as follows: /* Comment 1 /* Comment 2 */ Some commented out code here */ This code runs fine. However if putting the above into a .sql file in VS2005, it incorrectly shows the commented out code as 'active', (its not green). It seems that StackOverflow has highlighted the code in the same way. Is this a bug in VS2005? Or does SSMS handle nested comments differently compared to the ANSI SQL standards? Can someone clarify this discrepancy, and if it appears to be a bug, if there a way to fix the syntax highlighting?

  • Vim: Custom Folding function done, custom highlighting required

    I have defined a function in vim to properly indent folds. Ie so they look like this: Unfolded this is text also text indented text indented text not indented text folded with default function this is text also text +-- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text folded with my new function this is text also text ++- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text The only problem is the the highlighting is still like this: folded with my new function (highlighting shown with tag) this is text also text <hi> ++- 2 lines: indented text ----------------------------</hi> not indented text I would like the highlighting to start at the ++ and not at the beginning of the line. I have looked in the vim manual but could not find anything like that. One so-so solution I found was to make the background black. highlight Folded ctermbg=black ctermfg=white cterm=bold But this make folds less visible. I have tried several variations of: syn keyword Folded lines syn region Folded ... But I don't think that this is the way that folds are selected. Can anyone offer a suggestion? By the way this is my function to indent the folds: set foldmethod=indent function! MyFoldText() let lines = 1 + v:foldend - v:foldstart let ind = indent(v:foldstart) let spaces = '' let i = 0 while i < ind let i = i+1 let spaces = spaces . I have decided to write a few posts demonstrating the various techniques I used with JQuery to achieve the desired functionality. ?here are other posts in my blog regarding JQuery.You can find them all here.I have received some comments from visitors of this blog that are "complaining" about the length of the blog posts. I will not write lengthy posts anymore...I mean I will try not to do so..We will demonstrate this with a step by step example. I will use Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. You can also use Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. You can also use VS 2010 editions. 1) Launch Visual Studio. Create an ASP.Net Empty Web application. Choose an appropriate name for your application.2) Add a web form, default.aspx page to the application.3) Add a table from the HTML controls tab control (from the Toolbox) on the default.aspx page4) Now we need to download the JQuery library. Please visit the http://jquery.com/ and download the minified version.5) We will add a stylesheet to the application (Style.css)5) Obviously at some point we need to reference the JQuery library and the external stylesheet. Now let's say that we want to highlight only alternate rows of the table.We need to add another rule in the style.css.alternate { background-color:#42709b; color:#ff6a00;} The JQuery code (comment out the previous JQuery code) follows  <script type="text/javascript">        $(document).ready(function() {                     $('table tr:odd').addClass('alternate');        });    </script>  When I run my application through VS I see the following result You can do that with columns as well. You can highlight alternate columns as well.The JQuery code (comment out the previous JQuery code) follows  <script type="text/javascript">        $(document).ready(function() {                      $('td:nth-child(odd)').addClass('alternate');        });    </script>  In this script I use the nth-child() method in the JQuery code.This method retrieves all the elements that are nth children of their parent.Have a look at the picture below to see the resultsYou can also change color to each individual cell when hovered on.The JQuery code (comment out the previous JQuery code) follows    <script type="text/javascript">        $(document).ready(function() {          $('td').hover(                  function() {                 $(this).addClass('hover');               },                function() {                    $(this).removeClass('hover');                }                );        });    </script> Have a look at the picture below to see the results. Hope it helps!!!

      @Thanks Jeffrey Stephenson If you are looking at using any one of the new XML Based languages, lets say a docbook xml, or xproc, or what not, you can make use of JDeveloper's syntax highlighting and completion insight feature to ease out those extra keystrokes. All you need is a URL/local copy of the XML Schema for the language. Once you have, you can register it via Tools --> Preferences --> XML Schemas.   Remember to provide a new extension name [Using a default .xml extension did not work for me.] I provided my own extension .dbk for my docbook files. Once you save these settings, you can create new files that conform to the schema, and you get validation/completion insight/prompting for free.

  • TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

    I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate! UPDATE: Figured it out. There's a tiny, tiny dropdown list at the very bottom of every TextMate editing window where you can set the language, so TextMate can highlight invalid syntax - I'd accidentally clicked on it and set the language to something other than Python. Will leave the question up though in case others have the same problem.

  • Fix YAML syntax highlighting in VIM

    The YAML syntax highlighting in Vim 7.3 isn't great. Putting an apostrophe in a line of text triggers quote highlighting even when there's no quote. The same thing happens in other files sometimes too. I've posted a screenshot below. Is there any way to fix this behavior, or is there a different YAML syntax file I can use that won't trigger this behavior? This occurs in both MacVim and Vim in the Terminal. I'm running v7.3. Thanks for your help, Kevin

    Guys, feature in new release of Visual Studio which is block/region highlighting, I think is quite useless, and definitely frustrating when every time my cursor passes this line my whole region is being highlighted. Does anyone of you feel the same way and if not do you find this usefull for anything? Because I can't.

  • Is there such a thing as an "elisp bundle" for TextMate?

    I started using Code Collector Pro to organise and save my Emacs codes, and this software requires TextMate bundles for syntax highlighting. They have a lisp bundle, but not an elisp bundle, at least not that I can see. I would think that the syntax highlighting would work under the lisp bundle, but for some reason it isn't happening. I have never even seen any lisp code with syntax highlighting, so it is possible that the thing is working and I don't know, but I honestly don't think so, because the ;; before a line seems to me to be a comment thing, so anything after that should be in the color defined for comments which in my case is green. Here is a picture of my code collector screen with a piece of code written by huaiyuan answering my question posted here: Is this looking as it should or is there something wrong? Back to the initial question: is there a textmate bundle for elisp or a bundle like the ones from textmate I can download to get syntax highlighting?

    I have recently done a very simple highlighting with jQuery and a highlight plugin. It looks like this: $('myButton').click(function() { $('body').highlight($('#myInputText').val()); }); But I wonder how can I do the Chrome like highlighting, I mean highlight the letters whenever I type in some letter in textbox without submitting. I think maybe use a keyup event... Any ideas?

  • MASM Syntax Highlighting in C++ for Visual Studio 2010

    So, I had Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, and everything was great. However, I was confused, thought I wanted MASM, and installed the SDK. This causes strange problems for syntax highlighting. When I'm editing a C/C++ file, for instance, a lot of words (e.g., "data", "add", "sub", "mul", "div", "eax", etc.) are highlighted. At first, I thought I'd just learn to live with it, but it has gotten annoying. I could find nothing online, so, I deleted the MASM folder completely (method of uninstallation), uninstalled Visual Studio, and then installed it again. I firedit up, and the problem persists. Any clues? Thanks, Ian
