  • Using themes in visio

    I'm looking for a good reference on how to properly use themes in Visio. Here's been my experience so far: Create a flowchart diagram - nothing fancy, just all black & white. No formatting applied to any object. Select & apply a theme to the diagram. Despite the theme showing a set of matching colors, the diagram now has a single color applied to all objects. Right-click the object, format, fill, and pick a color from the set of matching theme colors. End up with an amalgamation of the original theme color I picked (blue) and the new color (green). With enough 'playing' with the object, I can get it to look OK, but it feels like I'm missing something, that it shouldn't be this hard to get a matching color. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

  • Dark Windows Themes

    I spend all day staring at computer screens. I have changed my Visual Studio theme to a dark theme, and find it much easier on the eyes. I'd like to change the rest of windows. Unfortunately, the only themes installed by default that are dark, are high contrast. Which is NOT what I am going for here. I can't seem to find an official dark theme, that isn't high contrast. I've found dynamic black, which is a good example of what I'm looking for, but it's not an official theme. Is there anything out there?

  • Firefox Using Prism Website Icon instead of Firefox Icon in Taskbar

    A while back, I created a website shortcut using the now discontinued Prism extension for Firefox. This worked fine at the time. However, now that Prism has been discontinued, whenever I open Firefox, when the shortcut for FF shows up my Windows taskbar, it does so with the website favico for the old Prism shortcut site that I created. If I right-click on the taskbar shortcut, it shows the old shortcut to the Prism app (even though I deleted its entry manually from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\WebApps). If I then click on [Pin to Taskbar] and then right click and [Unpin from Taskbar], the icon will switch back to the FF icon. If I righ-click on it a third time, it will switch back to the Prism site favico. I assume that if I were able to install Prism, then it would give me some way to remove the site. However, since Prism is discontinued and incompatible with the current version of FF, that is not an option. What I would like to do: completely remove references to the Prism app from my computer: Disassociate the prism website Favico from Firefox, so that it never replaces the FF icon in the Windows taskbar Shortcut to the Prism site will never shot up in the right-click menu for FF

  • Add Background Images and Themes to Windows 7 Media Center

    Are you tired of the same Windows Media Center look and feel? Today we’ll show you how change the background and apply themes to WMC. Changing the Basic Color Scheme in WMC There are a couple of very basic color scheme options built in to Windows 7 Media Center. From the WMC Start Menu, select Settings on the Tasks strip and then select General. On the General settings screen select Visual and Sound Effects.   Under Color scheme you’ll find options for Windows Media Center standard, High contrast white, and High contrast black. Simply select a color scheme and click Save before exiting.   If you have used Media Center before you are familiar with the standard blue default theme. There is also the high contrast white. And, the high contrast black. Changing the Background Image with Media Center Studio Themes and custom backgrounds need to be added with the third-party software, Media Center Studio. You can find the download link at the end of this article. You can use your own high resolution photo, or download one from the Internet. For best results, you’ll want to find an image that meets or exceeds the resolution of your monitor. Also, using a darker colored background image is ideal as it should contrast better with the lighter colored text of the start menu. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Media Center Studio (link below), open the application select the Home tab on the ribbon and make sure you are on the Themes tab below. Click New. Select Biography from the left pane and type in a name for your new theme.   Next, click on the triangle next to Images to expand the list below. You’ll want to browse to Images > Common > Background. You should see a list of PNG image files located below Background. We will want to swap out the COMMON.ANIMATED.BACKGROUND.PNG and the COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG images. Select COMMON.ANIMATED.BACKGROUND.PNG and click on the Browse button on the right.   Browse for your photo and click Open. Your selected image will appear on the left pane. Now, do the same for the COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG. When finished, select the Home tab on the ribbon at the top and click Save.   Now switch to the Themes tab on the ribbon and the Themes tab below. (There are two Themes tabs which can be a bit confusing). Select your theme on the right pane and click Apply. Note: You won’t see the image backgrounds displayed. Your theme will be applied to Media Center. Close out of Media Center Studio and open Windows Media Center to check out your new background.   You can load multiple backgrounds images and switch them periodically as your mood changes. You might like to find a nice background featuring your favorite movie or TV show.   Perhaps you can even find a background of your favorite sports team.   Installing Themes with Media Center Studio Theme7MC has made available a small group of Media Center Studio Theme packs that are simple to download and install. You can find the download link below. Note: Before installing a theme, turn off any extenders and close Windows Media Center. Download any (or all) of the Theme7MC theme packages to your Media Center PC. Open Media Center Studio, select the Themes tab (the one at the top) and click Import Theme.   Browse for the theme you wish to import and click Open. Select your theme from the themes pane and click Apply. Media Center Studio will proceed to apply your theme. You should then see your new theme appear under Current theme on the left theme pane. Close out of Media Center Studio. Open Media Center and enjoy your new theme. Conclusion Media Center Studio runs on Windows 7 or Vista and gives users a solution for personalizing their Media Center backgrounds. It is a Beta application, however, so it still has a few bugs. Currently, there are only a handful of themes available at Themes7MC, but what they have is pretty slick.   • $DISPLAY dependent gtk themes

    I have a computer at home that I log into remotely. The "monitor" for it is a TV, so I want gtk applications to use a large font and icon theme, which I managed to do by editing the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file and some other similar stuff. What I want to be able to do is have a separate theme for when I'm logging in remotely. The best way to explain is that I would like my gtk theme choice to be dependent on the X display that the application is started on. For example, if I start something on :0.0 then that is the TV and I want large fonts, but if I start it on localhost:10.0 I want to use a regular size font, because it will get rendered on my laptop screen. The elegant solution would be to have some sort of IF statement in the .gtkrc-2.0 file that checks the $DISPLAY variable and behaves accordingly. The problem is I can't find any documentation on control structures in .gktrc files, or if it's even possible to do that.

    i'm not interested in changing the actual icon in the EXE that shows up in windows explorer, but just the icon that shows up in the top left of the console window. Already i set the icon in the visual studio project and i'm getting it nicely in windows explorer, and also that icon is showing up in the console window, i just want to be able to change it in the console windows at runtime. I.e lets say i wanted to put an icon that shows there are new emails or something.

  • Mouse Icon Distorted on Secondary Display

    I have a strange issue with a dual monitor, extended desktop setup where the mouse is always fine on the primary monitor, but sometimes when I move to the secondary display the icon becomes garbled and distorted (sometimes it just looks like a vertical line, instead of a pointer). If I move the mouse back and forth rapidly between primary and secondary displays the level of "garbledness" of the icon will change and sometimes go away completely. If I switch the display settings and set it to "Duplicate Monitor 1" then I end up with a garbled icon on the primary display and an accurate one on the secondary. Very annoying. Computer is Windows 7 Ultimate with an HD8750 and the newest video drivers. Monitors are two Dell 24" displays connected via DVI cables. I have also tried VGA cables.

    Hey guys, I've installed Windows 7 for a dual-boot setup on my new Core i7 MacBook Pro. Now, just for the looks, I'd like to change the volume icon. The partition is in NTFS format. I remember that in the past (with Leopard), you just had to add a .VolumeIcon.icns file at the root of a volume to set its icon. It seems this trick wore off with Snow Leopard. It apparently still works with CDs and DVDs, but hard drives keep that old, boring drive icon, no matter how lovely the .VolumeIcon.icns file I've put at the root. How can I change that?

    Here's the code that I use to extract the icon size that I want: Dim i As Icon = My.Resources.Spectrum Using i2 As New Icon(i, New Size(256, 256)) Me.PictureBox1.Image = i2.ToBitmap End Using This works from 16x16 up to 128x128 but for 256x256 it extracts the 128x128 icon. I tried 0x0, because I seem to remember that that is how the large size is stored in the meta data, but that didn't work either.

  • Change a File Type’s Icon in Windows 7

    In Windows XP, you could change the icon associated with a file type in Windows Explorer. In Windows 7, you have to do some registry hacking to change a file type’s icon. We’ll show you a much easier and faster method for Windows 7. File Types Manager File Types Manager is a great little utility from NirSoft that includes the functionality of Windows XP’s folder options and adds a whole lot more. It works great in Windows 7, and its interface makes it easy to change a bunch of related file types at once. A common problem we run into are icons that look too similar. You have to look for a few seconds to see the difference between the movies and the text files. Let’s change the icon for the movie files to make visually scanning through directories much easier. Open up File Types Manager. Find the “Default Icon” column and click on it to sort the list by the Default Icon. (We’ve hidden a bunch of columns we don’t need, so you may find it to be farther to the right.) This groups together all file extensions that already have the same icon. This is convenient because we want to change the icon of all video files, which at the moment all have the same default icon. Click the “Find” button on the toolbar, of press Ctrl+F. Type in a file type that you want to change. Note that all of the extensions with the same default icon are grouped together. Right click on the first extension whose icon you want to change and click on Edit Selected File Type, or select the first extension and press F2. Click the “…” button next to the Default Icon text field. Click on the Browse… button. File Types Manager allows you to select .exe, .dll, or .ico files. In our case, we have a .ico file that we took from the wonderful public domain Tango icon library. Select the appropriate icon (if you’re using a .exe or .dll there could be many possible icons) then click OK. Repeat this process for each extension whose icon you would like to change. Now it’s much easier to see at a glance which files are movies and which are text files! Of course, this process will work for any file type, so customize your files’ icons as you see fit.     I use the Faenza icon collection in Ubuntu 12.04 Unity with no issues. But when I search in Dash for Nautilus it gives "Files" link to Nautilus, which has grey and quite plain file-cabinet icon. How do I change this grey file cabinet icon to the Nautilus' shell icon, which suits well to my icon theme?

  • Missing Firefox app icon

    I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from LTS 10.04) and Firefox (version 11) doesn't show it's icon in the Window List panel, in the Firefox window top left corner (system menu) nor when using ALT+TAB to switch applications. I'm using unity 2D since I'm running ubuntu as a guest in a VMWare virtual machine (Host is windows 7) Instead of the Firefox icon I get what appears to be a generic icon that looks like an app window in the window list and a black rectangle with a curl in the bottom right corner in the ALT+TAB window. How do I fix this so that the proper Firefox icon gets displayed? EDIT: Depending on the icon set chosen in the Appearence settings window sometimes I get the icon, sometimes I don't. When using Ubuntu classic none of the icon sets provide the icon for Firefox.

  • System context menu Icon not transparent like WinRAR

    I added a icon at the system context menu(the popped up menu when we right mouse click on any file/foler). But the icon is not transparent(in xp its not notice able, but in vista/win7 it is clearly visible) there is a white background beneath the icon. But WinRAR or TortoiseSVN icons don't have any white background, they are transparent. I tried the following C++ code: #define BITMAP_MAIN 201 //in resource.h BITMAP_MAIN BITMAP "main.bmp" // in .rc file // showing icon in menu... So is there be any special technique to make the icon in the system context menu transparent like WinRAR?
