  • Use ImageMagick to place an image inside a larger canvas

    Getting started with ImageMagic and trying to find a way to do this... If an image is less than 50 pixels tall or 50 pixels wide, I'd like to place it (un-scaled) in the horizontal/vertical center of a new 50x50 pixel canvas on top of a white background - and save that as the new image. Anyone know if this is possible with ImageMagick? Thanks!

    There is this tutorial in imagemagick http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/masking/#masks I was wondering if there was some way to mimic the behavior (like cutting the image up based on a black image mask that turns image parts transparent... ) and then trim that image in game... trying to hack around with the webcam feature and reproduce some of the imagemagick opencv stuff in it in Unity but I am saddly unequipped with masks, shaders etc in unity skill/knowledge. Not even sure where to start.

What can I add to my scripts to optimize the file size? ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I am using the imagick::FILTER_LANCZOS filter with a blur setting of 0.9 when calling the resizeImage() function. JPEGs have a quality setting of 80.

    using ImageMagick, what command should i use to convert a PDF to PNG? I need highest quality, smallest file size. this is what I have so far (very slow by the way): convert -density 300 -depth 8 -quality 85 a.pdf a.png Looking at what Gmail does when a user "view" a PDF, the quality is awesome and the file size very minimal. The DPI is just 96 (I have to set a density of 300 to get anything decent). Anyone know how GMail does it? Thanks.

    Hello everyone, I've got the following two commands for imagemagick in the command line: convert in.png container-mask.png +matte -compose CopyOpacity -composite out.png composite container.png out.png -compose multiply final.png Those two commands include 3 files: in.png: the file that should be masked container-mask.png: the back/white mask of the areas of container.png where in.png should be visible container.png image that includes the container for in.png, the one that has been masked in black/white with container-mask.png Now the question is how to transpose this commands into PHP calls.     Using ImageMagick, how can I resize an image to have a minimum: height of 150px width of 200px and also have a maximum: height of 225px width of 275px UPDATE: In case it helps, here's a further explanation of what I'm experiencing. I have a buch of images with all different ratio dimensions. Some images have 1:5 height/width ratios. Some have 5:1 height/width ratios. So that I want to do is set that a minimum height/width size for the image but also don't want the image size to be larger than a particular size. If I need to apply white padding to an image to make it fit within my constraint so that I don't have to distort the image, I'd like to do so.

    Starting with ImageMagick 6, the command style changed to solve a bunch of problems outlined in the Basic Usage document. That document does imply that for simple operations, one should only need to move the options from before the source file to between the source and output files to convert from the "old" style to the "new" style. However, this doesn't seem to work for the -colorspace operation. When I use the following command, I get an output file with the correct colors: convert -colorspace rgb input.pdf output.png But when I try to use the new command style, the -colorspace operation is never applied: convert input.pdf -colorspace rgb output.png Samples: Why does this occur?

  • Gluing tiles together using imagemagick's montage command

    This seems like it might be a reasonably common question, so I'm going to ask it using as many keywords as I can think of! I have a bunch of (well, nine) tile jpegs, with standard tile filenames. Each jpeg is 220x175 pixels: (top row) tile_1_0_0.jpg tile_1_1_0.jpg tile_1_2_0.jpg (middle row) tile_1_0_1.jpg tile_1_1_1.jpg tile_1_2_1.jpg (bottom row) tile_1_0_2.jpg tile_1_1_2.jpg tile_1_2_2.jpg How can I use imagemagick/montage to 'glue' or join them all together to make a single, coherent image? I don't want to resize them at all, so I guess the final image should be 660x525. That would be montage with no framing, shadowing, bordering, etc - just the nine original images, glued together to make a single jpeg. I know it should be something along these lines, but I'm struggling with getting the order and sizing right: montage +frame +shadow +label -tile 3x3 -geometry <options> *.jpg joined.jpg

  • ImageMagick help -- need to change DPI

    I have a 1000x1000 300dpi image that I need to convert to a 100x100 96dpi thumbnail. How do I do this in ImageMagick? I'm after the smallest possible file size at the highest possible quality. Doing something like this: convert myimage.png -quality 100 -resize 100 PNG8:mynewimage.png .... does change the dimension, but still maintains the DPI. If I can get this to change to 96dpi, I should get a smaller file size. I've tried -density, etc., but can't seem to make them work for me. Maybe I put the commands in the wrong order or passed the wrong parameters. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi there, I don't really know that much about bash scripts OR imagemagick, but I am attempting to create a script in which you can give some sort of regexp matching pattern for a list of images and then process those into new files that have a given filename prefix. for example given the following dir listing: allfiles01.jpg allfiles02.jpg allfiles03.jpg i would like to call the script like so: ./resisemany.sh allfiles*.jpg 30 newnames*.jpg the end result of this would be that you get a bunch of new files with newnames, the numbers match up, so far what i have is: IMAGELIST=$1 RESIEZFACTOR=$2 NUMIMGS=length($IMAGELIST) for(i=0; i<NUMIMGS; i++) convert $IMAGELIST[i] -filter bessel -resize . RESIZEFACTOR . % myfile.JPG Thanks for any help... The parts that I obviously need help with are 1. how to give a bash script matching criteria that it understands 2. how to use the $2 without having it match the 2nd item in the image list 3. how to get the length of the image list 4. how to create a proper for loop in such a case 5. how to do proper text replacement for a shell command whereby you are appending items as i allude to. jml

    It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard. I'm pretty sure I got this to work with certain PDFs, but is it really possible that certain PDFs are made incorrectly and cannot be converted?   • Imagemagick - File Naming

    I am using the convert command to convert a pdf to multiple pngs, I need the naming conventions to be slide-##.png at the moment they come out like slide-1.png but because there is 20+ slides when I loop through them to add them into the model the order comes up wrong, so it looks like slide-1.png slide-10.png slide-11.png and so on, how can I force convert to use double numbers like 01 02 03 and so forth or is there a better way to loop through them, this is the code I have at the moment def convert_keynote_to_slides system('convert -size 640x300 ' + keynote.queued_for_write[:original].path + ' ~/rails/arcticfox/public/system/keynotes/slides/'+File.basename( self.keynote_file_name )+'0%d.png') slide_basename = File.basename( self.keynote_file_name ) files = Dir.entries('/Users/joshcrowder/rails/arcticfox/public/system/keynotes/slides') for file in files #puts file if file.include?(slide_basename +'-') self.slides.build("slide" => "#{file}") if file.include?(slide_basename) end end

  • Issue with converting PDF pages to images with ImageMagick's convert (and PHP)

    I'm trying to create a small web service to convert PDF files to a series of images. When I run convert /full/path/to/source.pdf full/path/to/target.jpg when connected to the (shared hosting, Linux) server via ssh, everything works correctly. When executing the same command through PHP's exec() function, only the first few pages of the PDF file get converted. Sometimes the remaining pages are 0-length jpg files, sometimes they don't appear at all. Also, the bottom area of the first pages is sometimes black, as if convert stopped half-way on the page. What could be causing this problem?

    How can I convert 2 tiff images to PDF, I already knows how to get the image out of the DB, and I print it using echo and setting up the MIME type. But, right know I need to use a duplex printer option, so I need a way to generate a PDF from inside my PHP page, that PDF must containt both TIFF images (one per page) How can I do that? What do I need for php to work with that library. Thank you very much. EDIT: Is a self hosted app, I own the server (actually I'm using WAMP 2). I extract the images from the MySQL DB (stored using LONGBLOBS).

    So, I want to resize images to a FIXED width, but proportional height. I have been trying a wide range of operators: 380x242# 380x242 380!x242 380x242< none of them have the desired effect. Any help? I want it to fill or resize to the 380 width, then resize / shrink the height by the same factor it used to shrink or resize the image to 380 wide.

  • PHP Resize image down and crop using imagemagick

    I'm trying to downsize image uploaded by users at the time of upload. This is no problem but I want to get specific with sizes now. I'm looking for some advice on an algorithm im struggling to produce that will take any shape image - square or rectangle of any widths/heights and downsize it. This image needs to be downsized to a target box size (this changes but is stored in a variable).. So it needs to downsize the image so that both the width and height are larger than the width and height of the target maintaining aspect ratio. but only just.. The target size will be used to crop the image so there is no white space around the edges etc. I'm looking for just the algorithm behind creating the correct resize based on different dimension images - I can handle the cropping, even resizing in most cases but it fails in a few so i'm reaching out. I'm not really asking for PHP code more pseudo. Either is fine obviously. Thanks Kindly.

    I'm trying to understand the tutorial 16 at http://ogldev.atspace.co.uk, which requires the image processing library ImageMagick. But when I run the tutorial, I encountered an following error: freeglut: failed to change scree settings Error loading textures 'test.png': no decode delegates for this image format 'C:/../appdata/magick-6024a_cIJcw90t-j'@error/constitute.c/ReadImage/552 I searched for google and found that my ImageMagick library do not have PNG Delegaes, but when I checked for the information of ImageMagick, it sees PNG in its delegate lists.     Is there a way to get the number of tiffs in a multi-tiff with a command line utility in ImageMagick? What I want to to is to extract (split) the multi-tiff into single files. However if the tiff only contains one tiff (is not a multi-tiff), I would like to do nothing at all... Also if I use the "%d"-option to name the output files I get the "%d" in the file name if it is only one. ...or is there another way to use ImageMagick to avoid strange filenames when converting?
