  • Open a file with eclipse via terminal and focus eclipse window

    I am a webdeveloper and my current working tools are: Terminal (ssh, tailing logs, grep, git, etc) Eclipse (PDT, Javascript, etc) Firefox (Developer Toolbar + Firebug) The problem is that I hate using the eclipse navigation tree. For me it is a lot easier to go to the Terminal and do something like this: $ eclipse /var/www/myproject/long/path/lib/Driver/Sql.php The annoying part is that the eclipse window is not focused after this command. I have to manually click on the eclipse window (using mouse... :@ grrr) Anyway to force eclipse to be focused?

  • X11 performance problem after upgrading from Centos3 to Centos5 with an ATI Rage XL

    After upgrading a computer from Centos3 to Centos5 an application that does a lot of scrolling took a very high performance hit. top tells me that X is using a lot of CPU and that was not happening before. The machine has an ATI Rage XL with 8MB and X is using the ati driver as there is no proprietary ATI driver for this board on linux.   • Slow performance over network (Ubuntu)

    i did setup this NodeJs TCP Server and tested it with a message flooder. Just to see how the performance of the server is. While the message throughput is great if i run the server and the message flooder on the same computer (ubuntu), the throughput dramaticaly decreases if i start the server on computer1(ubuntu1) and the message flooder on computer2(also ubuntu). Both PC are on the same network. In fact, they are directly connected to each other. I started searching the internet for reasons and i suppose i need to tune TCP on both Ubuntu-pcs but until now i haven't been successfull at all. Has anyone experienced such problems, or could someone help me out?   • 403 with Apache and Symfony on Ubuntu 10.04

    I'm trying to run symfony on my apache installation (I'm using xampp for the whole package) and it keeps giving me a 403 error every time I try to access my website. I've got vhosts set up with the following: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/opt/lampp/htdocs" DirectoryIndex index.php <Directory "/opt/lampp/htdocs"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName servername.localhost DocumentRoot /home/me/web/server/web DirectoryIndex index.php Alias /sf "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf" <Directory "/home/me/web/server/web"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <Directory "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf"> Allow from All </Directory> I've also added "127.0.0.1 servername.localhost" in my hosts file. When I try to access "servername.localhost" it just gives me a 403 error. I've chmod'd 777 the symfony directory and my website directory in my home directory and used './symfony project:permissions' to let symfony check that permissions are set up correctly but still not result. If I move my website directory into "/opt/lampp/htdocs" then it will serve it from there but still has problems access the symfony stuff such as the debug toolbar. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi! I'm wonder if is possible to authenticate the same user with different public-private keys pairs on the same remote host. For all production servers, the public-private key pair has been generated for the same user and then exported to the backup server for allowing ssh authentication without human intervention.   • Web.NET: A Brief Retrospective

    It’s been several weeks since I had the pleasure of visiting Milan, and joining 150 enthusiastic web developers for a day of server-side frameworks and JavaScript. Lucky for me, I keep good notes. Overall the day went smoothly, with some solid logistics and very attentiveorganizerss, and an impressively diverse audience drawn by the fact that the event was ambitiously run in English. This was great in that it drew a truly pan-European audience (11 countries were represented on the day, and at least 1 visa had to be procured to get someone there!) It was trouble because, in some cases, it pushed speakers outside their comfort zone. Thankfully, despite a slightly rocky start, every session I attended was very well presented, and the consensus on the day was that the speakers were excellent. While I felt that a lot of the speakers had more that they wanted to cover, the topics were well-chosen, every room constantly had a stack of people in it, and all the sessions were pleasingly focused on code & demos. For all that the language barriers occasionally made networking a little challenging,organizerss Simone & Ugo nailed the logistics. Registration was slick, lunch was plentiful, and session management was great. The very generous Rui was kind enough to showcase a short video about Glimpse in his session, which seemed to go down well (Although the audio in the rooms was a little under-powered). Because I think you might need a mid-week chuckle, here are some out-takes.: And lets not forget the Hackathon. The idea was what having just learned about a stack of interesting technologies, attendees could spend an evening (fuelled by pizza and some good Github beer) hacking something together using them. Unfortunately, after a (great)10-hour day, and in many cases facing international travel in the morning, many of the attendees headed straight for their hotel rooms. This idea could work so beautifully, and I’m excited to see how it pans out in 2013. On top of the slick sessions, getting to finally meet Ugo and Simone in the flesh as a pleasure, as was the serendipitous introduction to the most excellent Rui. They’re all fantastic guys who are passionate about the web, and I’m looking forward to finding opportunities to work with them. Simone & Ugo put on a great event, and I’m excited to see what they do next year.

  • Creating content of window programmatically

    Hi, I've a window that will have an unknown amount of text fields, determined by the content of a remote server. In high level terms, how should I go about this? Create a custom view or create an empty window with a backing NSWindowController and then add stuff to it when the window is opened? I've seen the examples on the O'Reilly Cocoa book and those effectively create a custom NSView. Is this the right way to do it, 8 year later?

    Hi all, I've "setup-a-msysgit-server-with-copssh-on-windows", following Tim Davis' guide and I was now learning how to use the git commands, following Jason Meridth's guide, and I have managed to get everything working fine, but now I can't pass the push command. I have set the server and the client on the same machine (for now), win7-x64.   • How to digitally sign a message with M2Crypto using the keys within a DER format certificate

    Hi everyone. I am working on a project to implement digital signatures of outgoing messages and decided to use M2Crypto for that. I have a certificate (in DER format) from which I extract the keys to sign the message. For some reason I keep getting an ugly segmentation fault error when I call the "sign_update" method. Given the previous examples I have read here, I am clearly missing something.   • How to use VisualStyleRenderer in Windows 7?

    In a small project of mine I've came across the need of a collapsible group box. Searching the Net, I've found one here. In one of the comments there's an improvement on the original code that uses the VisualStyleRenderer class in order to acquire the TreeView open and closed glyph. Running the code it draws properly the Plus and Minus sing as Windows XP would draw it, however in Windows Vista and Windows 7 the glyph for open and closed nodes are small triangles. What kind of interface, class or PInvoke, I need to use in order to acquire the right glyph?

  • Load dll's from Environment Variable Path from a service

    We install Matlab Runtime on a machine, then we restart a .net windows service that invokes methods from the Matlab Runtime. The problem is that we receive TypeInitializationException errors until we restart windows. We think this happens because Environment Variables are not changed on services until restart and Matlab uses the %Path% variable to reference it's core DLL's. My question is, do you think I can change the %Path% variable so that Matlab will use it when referencing the core dll's for it's engine? Or is it possible to add a directory to the runtime DLL loading mechanism of .NET so that those Matlab core dll's would be referenced correctly without restarting the machine?   • Multiple undo managers for a text view

    Hi, I've a text view that gets its content from an attributed string stored in a model object. I list several of these model objects in a drawer and when the user clicks on one the text view swaps its content. I now need to also swap the undo manager for the text view. I initialise an undo manager on my model object and use undoManagerForTextView to return it to the text view, but something's not quite right. Strategically placed logging statements show me that everything's working as planned: on startup a new model object is initialised correctly and a non-null undo manager is always pulled by the text view. But when it comes to actually doing undo, I just can't get the behaviour I want. I open a window, type something and press cmd+z, and undo works. I open a window, type something, select a new model on the table, type something, go back to the first model and try to undo and all I get is a beep. Something on the documentation made me raise an eyebrow, as it would mean that I can't have undo with several model objects: The default undo and redo behavior applies to text fields and text in cells as long as the field or cell is the first responder (that is, the focus of keyboard actions). Once the insertion point leaves the field or cell, prior operations cannot be undone.

    Hi there! I'm trying to add some MarkDown capabilities to my symfony project (symfony version 1.3.3). To accomplish that, I had already included the MarkDown library into lib/vendor directory. Also, I added the need configuration in the autoload.yml for the previous library. However, I'm getting a fatal PHP error: Call to undefined function Markdown(). How can I resolve this problem?   • Videoconference using Flash and SIP

    The front-end will be Flash, to run in a browser and have access to the camera. I must use SIP to control the sessions. How could I do this? Will a Red5 server and a MjSip sever do the trick? As in i'd use MjSip to setup the session and warn users about calls, and Red5 to stream the video and audio? Any suggestions? Note: only 1-on-1 conference is required.
