• X-notifier doesn't work in Chromium Browser

  It just keeps checking in vain. Also cannot import or export data, but get this error I use the latest versions of both in Lubuntu 12.04. In Google Chrome it works. What could it be the problem? • Can you use programming for a greater good? [closed]

  What are the paths one could take to use their programming skills to benefit mankind (good causes, scientific or medical advancement, etc)? Problem: I dropped out of school, learnt programming, on my own, from text books and the internet. I have 7+ years of commercial experience from web applications to big data to mobile apps. But all I seem to do is make rich people richer with the vain hope that one day I'll be the guy with the good idea using other people to make myself richer. I googled for simular posts on the subject and saw a lot of people saying... "Just do your 9-5 job and donate a lot to charity"... I'm sorry to sound selfish but thats not what makes me tick; I need to be invested in and excited about the project at hand; it's not only got to be for a greater good but it's got to kick arse and feel good doing it too... Does that kind of job exist? Does it involve programming? What other skills do I need? (Apologies if this question is too 'fluffy' or 'wishy-washy', but if it is a pointer to where else I could ask it would be appreciated)

• What to do about "system running in low-graphics mode"?

  My Dell which was 5 years old suddenly karked it and I had the "low graphics" black screen and useless dialogue box. As I believed it was a dead graphics card I went out and bought a brand new machine. I put aside the new machine and tried again in vain to open the Dell. I eventually got to the command line via Ctrl+Alt+F1. I logged into my account from there, and simply started a series of sudo apt-get remove of various softwares that I knew were installed on my PC (software without any great consequence like Google earth, tweak, Skype etc). Lo and behold after a sudo reboot my computer was fine again! So now I have 2 computers. BUT one week after buying the other one and installing 12.04 because I love Ubuntu, the SAME PROBLEM arrived! I once again deleted Google earth, Skype, and did a sudo reboot and everything worked as before. I think there is a bug or something in 12.04 as this problem has never arisen with any other versions of Ubuntu.

  Hi All, I tried to create linq-to-sqlite dbml using DbLinq but in vain. Each time I get different type of errors. May be I'm somewhere wrong. Can anyone tell me the step by step procedure to create the dbml file from the Dblinq source code. Edit: Steps I Followed: I downloaded the source file from this link. Edited the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file in \\DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder as 'DbMetal.exe -database:myDb.db3 -namespace:myNS -code:myCode.cs' -dbml:myDbml.dbml Tried to run the DbMetal project file to produce the executable but there was a runtime error since Options object in Parameters.cs was null. Hence downloaded the readymade exe file from this location Copied it into the \DbLinq-0.19\src\DbMetal folder Executed the "run_sqliteMetal.bat" file I got a blank screen and Windows Error Msg "DbLinq has stopped Working" Any help? • Replacing a calloutaccessoryview in mkannotationview

  In my viewForAnnotation delegate, I create a MKAnnotationView with leftCalloutaccessory as a info button. When the info button is tapped, I want to replace it with a UIActivityIndicator. So in the calloutAccessoryTapped delegate, I wrote view.leftCalloutaccessoryView = [UIActivityIndicator indicatorWithStyle:UIActivityIndicatorWhite]; The callout accessory seems to change, but it seems like the view doesn't get updated immediately. That's when the callout accessory gets hidden (by tapping another pin) and is re-opened, I see a spinner. But otherwise, I don't. I tried calling [view setNeedsdisplay] and [view setNeedsLayout] and [view layoutsubviews] as well but in vain. Any suggestions/pointers?

• Google Chrome Extensions - Online Packaging

  I am coding something like an online PHP editor. So, now I have this option to port the web applications created using the editor as Chrome extensions (popup). It works okay save the fact that the files created need to be downloaded, packaged (using Chrome or cmd) and re-uploaded. I do have this provision but I find it annoying myself to go through this routine everytime I need to make an update to my application. So, I just want to know if there is some way we can package Chrome extensions from the web itself? Edit: I know this can be done using Ruby or even Python. Want to know if the same can be done in PHP. I tried in vain.

• Tokenizer for full-text

  This should be an ideal case of not re-inventing the wheel, but so far my search has been in vain. Instead of writing one myself, I would like to use an existing C++ tokenizer. The tokens are to be used in an index for full text searching. Performance is very important, I will parse many gigabytes of text. Edit: Please note that the tokens are to be used in a search index. Creating such tokens is not an exact science (afaik) and requires some heuristics. This has been done a thousand time before, and probably in a thousand different ways, but I can't even find one of them :) Any good pointers? Thanks!

• Flex Arraycollection filter

  Hello all I am working in Flex. I have an arraycollection which is used to fill a tilelist with images. I am using filter method of arraycollection to filter out certain images from tilelist based on a selected value from combobox. The issue is that when the images are filtered out they just vanish suddenly. But I want to give some effect to them when they are filtered out, say slow fade effect or zoom effect. I tried removedEffect, hideEffect etc. but in vain. Can anyone please help me out. thanks.

• Macros no longer working in VS2005

  I'm using VS2005 on Vista. I'm using some macros, but now they have suddenly stopped working. No error messages of any kind. I am not aware of having done anything that could trigger this. I have made sure that "Allow macros to run" is checked in Tools-Options-Addin/Macro Security. I have tried running the macros from a keyboard shortcut, from the Macro Explorer, and from the Macros IDE, all in vain: The little spinning icon displays shortly (<1 sec) and then disappears without the macro being executed. I have tried putting a breakpoint on the first line of the macro and then executing it from the main IDE, with no effect (the breakpoint isn't hit). I have tried the same from the Macro IDE: The state changes to "running", but the breakpoint isn't hit. I have to break the execution manually. Any ideas?

• Cruise control.NET invoking an IDE

  Hi, I have an IDE named VxWorks 653 2.2.3 Development shell which needed to be invoked all the time when i notice any change in my source files.So i had invoked this shell through a VB scripts which invokes two more .bat(Batch files) to get this shell popped up for execution.Now i feel that since my IDE can be invoked by command line,it can also be invoked through nant scripts using the statement like D:\WindRiver\wrenv.exe -p vxworks653-2.2.3 But what i see is that its not at all invoking.I had tried all different ways but all turned out to be in vain. Can anyone pls suggest me any way either in nant scripts or in cruise control by which my IDE can be invoked.Now at present i am using VB scripts which is a very long proceess. • Confusion about Nullable<T> constraints

  Greetings everybody. I am sorry, if this was already asked before (searched in vain) or is really very simple, but i just can't get it. The MSDN definition of a Nullable type, states, that it is defined in a following manner: [SerializableAttribute] public struct Nullable<T> where T : struct, new() So the question is quite straightforward: How is this definition possible? Or this is just a typo? Every value type already has a default constructor. Indeed, when i try to compile something like this, the compiler reasonably says, that it is illegal to apply both constraints at the same time, because the second one is implicitly included in a first one. • A question about Drupal Node and Views

  I have created an "Add Question" content-type node which lets users ask questions. The questions have a title, image attachment option, and the content. I am showing the questions which have image as a block by filtering it as "Content: Photofield - list True" in Views. This way, only the questions which have images attached to the question appear in this block. Photofield by the way is the content type. I want to create a new block which only shows the questions which have no attached image. I have done filtering this block view by keeping filters as "Content: Photofield - list False" but in vain. There's also some expose option and I did some messing around with it too without coming to the result I want. Can anyone help?

• Where is the windows app installed + .NET + VS2005

  I deployed a windows application in the following website http://StagingServer/MyProgs/MPP/ on my intranet site, using the Publish Wizard of VS 2005... I accepted all defaults (including Offline support). My users were also able to install the same from the path specified. But when I try to find out the exact location of the EXE in the client, it is not pointing anywhere. I also tried a file search but in vain. Initially I thought the application is running from the server itself, but we were able to start the app, even when the server is down (ofcourse it takes more time to search for updates initially). Ps : The app is showing even in control panel... Raja

• Binding Properties.Settings to Textbox fails

  I would like to define a key & value in Settings.settings and bind the value by declaration in the XAML (not in the code behind by command). Here's what I've been trying in vain: Create a WPF project "Exp1" with Visual Studio Express 2010. Set one key named "TextFromSettings" to the value "Some Text from Setting". Add the attribute xmlns:p="clr-namespace:Exp1.Properties;assembly=Exp1" to the tag. Add Text="{Binding Path=TextFromSettings, Mode=TwoWay, Source={x:Static p:Settings.Default}}" to the tag Now, the preview window shows the text, however, the compiler fails: "Error 1 Cannot find the type 'Settings'. Note that type names are case sensitive." Where am I going wrong?

• How to create a glib.Source from Python?

  I want to integrate some asyncore.dispatcher instances into GLib's default main context. I figure I can create a custom GSource that's able to detect event readiness on the various sockets in asyncore.socket_map. From C I believe this is done by creating the necessary GSourceFuncs which could involve cheap and non-blocking calls to select, and then handling them using asyncore.read, .write and friends. How do I actually create a GSource from Python? The class glib.Source is undocumented, and attempts to use the class interactively have been in vain. Is there some other method that allows me to handled socket events in the asyncore module without resorting to timeouts (or anything that endangers potential throughput and CPU usage)?

• Is passing a Command object/Reader to a function a good idea?

  I've been getting some inexplicable errors (running out of connections from the connection pool) with MySql database with .Net 4 (C#). Till now all my attempts at finding a reason for this have been in vain. Now I also have a situation in which a lock on a table is not cleared for a long time even though all I have been doing is read operations from it. My code looks okay (I've put all readers and connections in using blocks). The only anomaly I have is that I've been passing MySqlCommand and MySqlDataReader objects as parameters to functions who work with them. That doesn't seem like a bad idea for me because it avoids some repetition (DRY!). But since I can't find any other explanation I have to suspect that this is causing the problem. What do you think?

  Hi, I am working for a project on disaster management sponsered by World Bank, under this project i have assigned work on CMS. and my senior has asked me to make a ASP.NET webpage where those logged with administrator privilege will be able to edit the page. like:- <div id="mydiv"><pre>+++++++MY CONTENT+++++++++++++++++++</pre></div> now if if the admin clicks on mydiv he should be able to edit the pre contents. for this i got many options such as WYSIWYG editors (but they work on textboxs only and further more they cant save the data back to server replacing the previous content) then I came to know about Webparts , but its editing capabilities was so low that my plan for implementing a WYSIWYG editor went in vain. so I m seeking help from u all is their any way to achieve the motive, it would be better if u can suggest something like incorporating WYSIWYG into webpartmanager editor... In the output csv file, I need to display the address in a single cell with data separated by a new line. I tried using a cursor and appending data using chr(10), chr(12), chr(15) but in vain. • auto resize text (font size) when resizing window?

  Hi, I have been trying(in vain) to build a page whose elements would resize as I changed the window size. I have it working in css for images no problem, but I can't seem to accomplish the same for text, and I am not sure it is even possible in CSS. And I can't seem to find a jquery script that accomplishes this. When a user resizes the window, I essentially want the page to scale dynamically and fluidly, without the user having to invoke page zoom. This works fine on my img divs via css, but not for the text, which stays the same size. any ideas? Thanks!

• AdventureWorks 2014 Sample Databases Are Now Available

    Where in the World is AdventureWorks? Recently, SQL Community feedback from twitter prompted me to look in vain for SQL Server 2014 versions of the AdventureWorks sample databases we’ve all grown to know & love. I searched Codeplex, then used the bing & even the google in an effort to locate them, yet all I could find were samples on different sites highlighting specific technologies, an incomplete collection inconsistent with the experience we users had learned to expect.  I began pinging internally & learned that an update to AdventureWorks wasn’t even on the road map.  Fortunately, SQL Marketing manager Luis Daniel Soto Maldonado (t) lent a sympathetic ear & got the update ball rolling; his direct report Darmodi Komo recently announced the release of the shiny new sample databases for OLTP, DW, Tabular, and Multidimensional models to supplement the extant In-Memory OLTP sample DB.  What Success Looks Like In my correspondence with the team, here’s how I defined success: 1. Sample AdventureWorks DBs hosted on Codeplex showcasing SQL Server 2014’s latest-&-greatest features, including:  In-Memory OLTP (aka Hekaton) Clustered Columnstore Online Operations Resource Governor IO 2. Where it makes sense to do so, consolidate the DBs (e.g., showcasing Columnstore likely involves a separate DW DB) 3.
