  • How to store multiple scroll positions for scrolling div element depending on active View in MultiView (asp.net webform

    confusing title but the best way I can put it. Basically I am currently using a single div with overflow:auto that contains different GridViews. The GridViews are swapped by using a MultiView with each indiviudal view containing a single GridView. I would like to be able to store the scroll position of each view so that I can set the div's scroll position depending on the view that will be switched to.     There's something that I don't get it yet in Xtrareport. I have to bind the datasource at runtime and also I have to assign the datasource to the labels programatically. Binding data at runtime is fine ,(and here's my question)I did not get from any examples to how should I bind the datasource to the labels and how to pass the parameter(UserId) from runtime and how to call the report from a webform. For example, I have a table called "User" with 3 fields: UserId, Username and Password. In the report designer I place 3 labels. Then I have a webform where the user is entering the userID and pulling some data and I have a print button on that webform when the user clicks the print button the data should be displayed on the report of UserId..

  • Send HTTP Post with default browser with C#

    Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to send POST data with the default browser of a computer in C#. Here is the situation. My client would like the ability to have their C# application open their browser and send client information to a webform. This webform would be behind a login screen. The assumption from the application side is that once the client data is sent to the login screen, the login screen would pass that information onto the webform to prepopulate it. This would be done over HTTPS and the client would like this to be done with a POST and not a GET as client information would be sent as plain text. I have found some wonderful solutions that do POSTS and handle the requests.   • Is it possible to share a masterpage between MVC and webforms?

    I am adding MVC to a project that has MANY legacy webform pages. This works fine. However, I currently have a separate masterpage for MVC and for the webforms. The two master pages produce essentially identical output. I'd really like to kill the webforms one and just use the MVC master page with all my pages and stay DRY. Not being DRY has already bitten me a couple times when I forgot to change both. I tried doing the obvious way and just pointing the webform content page's MasterPage attribute at the MVC masterpage. This throws an error saying the MVC masters only work with MVC views. This seems like it would be a pretty common problem with mixed MVC and webform projects. My MVC master isn't doing anything with ViewData, so I don't see any reason the webforms couldn't use them.

  • Service Layer - how broad should it be, and should it also be used from the local application?

    The background: I need to build a desktop application with some operations (CRUD and more) (=winforms), I need to make another application which will re-use some of the functions of the main application (=webforms). I'm using service layer for reusing my functions. The service is calling the functions on the BL layer (correct me if I'm doing this wrong). so my desktop has 4 projects - DAL, BL, UI, WEBSERVICES. The dilemma (simple but I still need some more experienced opinions): In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL - bl.getcustomers(), or do it similar to how I call it in the webform, and call the functions from the service - webservices.getcustomers? Should I create a service for every single function on the BL even if I need some of the functions only in one UI? for example - should I create services for all the CRUD operations, even though I need to re-use only update operation in the webform? YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED

    using visual studio 2008 Asp.net HTML Designer Howdy, Silly question but im using the HTML desinger in vs2008 to produce a ASP.net webform page, and i cant seem to find a way to select/group multiple controls with the mouse and move them all about the page in one group to keep them all aligned. I can select multiple controls with cntrl/click combo, and use the align options, but once they are selected i cannot move them aroound the webform as a group any advice appreciated

  • SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

    Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help.   • DevDays ‘00 The Netherlands day #1

    First day of DevDays 2010, I was looking forward to DevDays to see all the new things like VS2010, .NET4.0, MVC2. The lineup for this year is again better than the year before, there are 100+ session of all kind of topics like Cloud, Database, Mobile, SharePoint, User experience, Visual Studio, Web. The first session of the day was a keynote by Anders Hejlsberg he talked about the history and future of programming languages. He gave his view about trends and influences in programming languages today and in the future. The second talk that i followed was from the famous Scott Hanselman, he talked about the basics of ASP.NET MVC 2, although it was a 300 level session, it was more like a level 100 session, but it was mentioned by Scott at the beginning. Although it was interesting to see all the basic things about MVC like the controllers, actions, routes, views, models etc. After the lunch the third talk for me was about moving ASP.NET webform applications to MVC from Fritz Onion. In this session he changed an example webform application part by part to a MVC application. He gave some interesting tips and tricks and showed how to solve some issues that occur while converting. Next and the fourth talk was about the difference between LINQ to SQL and  the ADO.NET  Entity Framework from Kurt Claeys. He gave a good understanding about this two options, the demos where in LINQ to SQL and the Entity Framework, the goal was to get a good understanding when and where to use both options. The last talk about this day was also from Scott Hanselman, he goes deeper into the features of ASP.NET MVC 2 and gave some interesting tips, the ninja black belt tips. He gave some tips about the tooling, the new MVC 2 html helper methods, other view engines (like NHaml, spark),T4 templating. With this tips we can be more productive and create web applications better and faster. It was a long and interesting day, I am looking forward to day #2.

  • Asp.net fileupload control postback problems

    using ASP.net, vs2008 C#. Im using a FileUpload control on a webform. The uploading of a file (ie PDF dcouments) to a server directory works ok. I have on the webform a "preview" button that the user can use to preview the PDF file after they have selected it via the Fileupload browse feature. I do this by if (this.FileUpload1.HasFile) { localURL = FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName; // use this to preview file. Other methods are restricted by local security requirements Process.Start(localURL); } My problems is that after the button click Postback occurs the location of the selected file disappears from the textbox part of the Fileupload control. How can i keep this info there, so the user does not have to browse again and instead can just click upload to upload the file. Any help appreciated thanks

    I am using a crystal reports through crystal report viewer server side control in a webform. I am using a webform because the crystal report viewer provides an easy way to export to PDF and to Excel. My problem is that when I deploy to the server, the crystal report .rpt file does not get copied to the target folder. My solution structure looks like this: Solution |-Content |-Controllers |-Models |-Views |-etc... |-Reports |-Default.aspx |-Report.rpt On the server, the Report.rpt file is missing after I publish.

  • Drupal path alias not found

    Got a Drupal6 install, and I'm using a webform to collect some data. The webform has a path alias set on the edit page as 'contact_us'. The issue that I can't figure out (and hard to reproduce) is from time to time, some users end up on the page 'node/'. Seems like that is a possible failure trying to find the alias or system path. Any one seen this before? Any suggestions on some places to look or to why this is happening? Regards

I would appreciate if there are some good examples, thanks. I understand that under Components, there is a SerialPort .NET Component, but it seems to me that it can only be used in a Windows application (WinForm). Or the only solution is to rely on the ActiveComport Serial Port Toolkit, as from http://www.activexperts.com/activcomport/howto/aspnetc/ ?

  • Watching Green Day and discovering Sitecore, priceless.

    I’m feeling inspired and I’d like to share a technique we’ve implemented in Sitecore to address a URL mapping from our legacy site that we wanted to carry over to the new beautiful Littelfuse.com. The challenge is to carry over all of our series URLs that have been published in our datasheets, we currently have a lot of series and having to create a manual mapping for those could be really tedious. It has the format of http://www.littelfuse.com/series/series-name.html, for instance, http://www.littelfuse.com/series/flnr.html. It would have been easier if we have our information architecture defined like this but that would have been too easy. I took a solution that is 2-fold. First, I need to create a URL rewrite rule using the IIS URL Rewrite Module 2.0. Secondly, we need to implement a handler that will take care of the actual lookup of the actual series. It will be amazing after we’ve gone over the details. Let’s start with the URL rewrite. Create a new blank rule, you can name it with anything you wish. The key part here to talk about is the Pattern and the Action groups. The Pattern is nothing but regex. Basically, I’m telling it to match the regex I have defined. In the Action group, I am telling it what to do, in this case, rewrite to the redirect.aspx webform. In this implementation, I will be using Rewrite instead of redirect so the URL sticks in the browser. If you opt to use Redirect, then the URL bar will display the new URL our webform will redirect to. Let me explain one small thing, the (\w+) in my Pattern group’s regex, will actually translate to {R:1} in my Action’s group. This is where the magic begins. Now let’s see what our Redirect.aspx contains. Remember our {R:1} above which becomes the query string variable s? This are basic .Net code. The only thing that you will probably ask is the LFSearch class. It’s our own implementation of addressing finding items by using a field search, we supply the fieldname, the value of the field, the template name of the item we are after, and the value of true or false if we want to do an exact search, or not. If eureka, then redirect to that item’s Path (Url). If not, tell the user tough luck, here’s the 404 page as a consolation. Amazing, ain’t it?

  • Drupal 7: One-time user account

    I'm going to create a survey in Drupal 7 with the webform module, installed on a debian system which may be adapted in every way. The users (personally known, approx. 120) doing that survey will walk into a room and complete the survey in browsers on different computers. After that, they'll leave the room and other persons will enter, complete the survey on the same computers and so on. Each user may enter only one submission. The process needs to be anonymous, i. e. I mustn't have any idea of who did wich submission. My current solution is to generate random one-time-passwords and hand out one password per user (without noting who got which password). Within the survey there will be a password field where the one-time-password is entered. The value is checked by webform to be unique. I'll get the data via csv or Excel and verify the passwords manually in excel by comparing them to the list of valid passwords. The problem is: I don't like the idea of manually generating the password list, copying it to excel and doing a manual check. That's a good idea for one-time-use, but we're going to repeat the survey every once in a while. I'd rather generate one-time-logins (like user0001/fdlkjewf, user0002/dfrefnnr, ...) for each survey, hand them out to the users and let drupal/debian/whatever check whether a submission is valid or not. Do you have any idea how to batch-generate about 120 users with one-time-passwords in Drupal 7 and verify that each user may submit the form only once? Do you even have a better idea how to accomplish the task within the intranet? Thank you for your help.

  • AutoMapper a viable alternative to two way databinding using a FormView?

    I've started using the FormView control to enable two way databinding in asp.net webforms. I liked that it saved me the trouble of writing loadForm and unloadForm routines on every page. So it seemed to work nicely at the start when I was just using textboxes everywhere....but when it came time to start converting some to DropDownLists, all hell broke lose. For example, see: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2435185/not-possible-to-load-dropdownlist-on-formview-from-code-behind ....and I had many additional problems after that. So I happened upon an article on AutoMapper, which I know very little about yet, but from the sounds of it, this might be a viable alternative to two-way databinding a form to an domain entity object? From what I understand, AutoMapper basically operates on naming convention, so, it will look for matched names properties(?) on the source and destination objects. So, basically, I have all my domain entities (ie: Person) with properties (FirstName, LastName, Address, etc)....what I would like to be able to do is declare my asp controls with those exact same names, and have automapper do the loading and unloading. One obvious caveat is that AutoMapper would have to know the proper property name for each control type, ie: Person.FirstName -- form.FirstName*.Text* Person.Country -- form.Country.SelectedValue Person.IsVerified -- form.IsVerified.Checked ....so it would have to have the smarts to find the control on the form, determine its type, and then load/unload between the domain object and the webform control into the proper property of the control. So if this worked, a person could just get rid of the cursed FormView control entirely, and it would be just one line of code each for binding and unbinding a webform. Possible?

    I’ve built a webform in Visual Web Developer Express 2008 to help me with my work. I use a webform to run query requests that are emailed to me. The inputs are in this format 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 I enter the first number in a textbox and the second number in another textbox and click a button that runs a query and returns the results in a gridview(single row). string strConn, strSQL; strConn = AppConfig.Connection strSQL = 'select fields from table where FirstNum=:FirstNum and SecondNum=:SecondNum'; using (OracleConnection cn = new OracleConnection(strConn)) { OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(strSQL, cn); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":FirstNum", txtFirstNum.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":SeconNum", txtSecondNum.Text); cn.Open(); using (OracleDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { dgResults.DataSource = rdr; dgResults.DataBind(); } cn.Close(); } I had an idea to help me speed up my work. I’d like to be able to past both numbers in a single textbox ( like this 12312 12312 ) and have the code parse out the nubmers for the query. Or even better would be to past all of them in a multiline textbox like this 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 And have them all parsed and the query run for each line and the results all output to one gridview. I’m just not sure how to approach this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • IIS on localhost is very slow

    I am using IIS7 on Windows Vista dual core cpu. The first time hit on a WCF service or an ASP.NET webform sometimes takes way longer than a minute which is not really acceptable for me. I configured the application to use the Classic .NET application pool and tried playing with the Maximum worker processes, first setting it to 4 but put it back to 1 as it did not have the expected result. Are there any other things that I can try?

In this post I'm going to demonstrate how to this in ASP.NET WebForms.  The basic idea to achieve this is we just need to insert row data in the DataSource that is being used in GridView since the GridView rows will be generated based on the DataSource data. The FillData() method is a method that returns a DataTable and basically creates a dummy data in the DataTable to be used as the GridView DataSource. You can replace the code in that method if you want to use actual data from database but for the purpose of this example I just fill the DataTable with a dummy data on it. The BindGridVew is a method that handles the actual binding of GridVew. The InsertRow() is a method that returns a DataRow. This method handles the insertion of the sub row. Now in the LinkButton OnClick event, we casted the sender to a LinkButton to determine the specific object that fires up the event and get the row values. We then reference the Data from ViewState to get the current data that is being used in the GridView. If the LinkButton text is "Insert" then we will insert new row to the DataSource ( in this case the DataTable) based on the rowIndex if not then Delete the sub row that was added.     As I have written and spoken on numerous occasions, Health Monitoring happens to be one of my favorite features in ASP.NET. In WebForms, it's a path well trodden. However, while building Morts & Elvises with MVC2, I ran into a strange inconsistency, which I'd like to describe here. WebForms Whenever a WebForm throws an unhandled exception, at the very least the error is written to the system's even log.   • ASP.NET Multi-Select Radio Buttons

    “HERESY!” you say, “Radio buttons are for single-select items!  If you want multi-select, use checkboxes!”  Well, I would agree, and that is why I consider this a significant bug that ASP.NET developers need to be aware of.  Here’s the situation. If you use ASP:RadioButton controls on your WebForm, then you know that in order to get them to behave properly, that is, to define a group in which only one of them can be selected by the user, you use the Group attribute and set the same value on each one.  For example: 1: <asp:RadioButton runat="server" ID="rdo1" Group="GroupName" checked="true" /> 2: <asp:RadioButton runat="server" ID="rdo2" Group="GroupName" /> With this configuration, the controls will render to the browser as HTML Input / Type=radio tags and when the user selects one, the browser will automatically deselect the other one so that only one can be selected (checked) at any time. BUT, if you user server-side code to manipulate the Checked attribute of these controls, it is possible to set them both to believe that they are checked. 1: rdo2.Checked = true; // Does NOT change the Checked attribute of rdo1 to be false. As long as you remain in server-side code, the system will believe that both radio buttons are checked (you can verify this in the debugger).  Therefore, if you later have code that looks like this 1: if (rdo1.Checked) 2: { 3: DoSomething1(); 4: } 5: else 6: { 7: DoSomethingElse(); 8: } then it will always evaluate the condition to be true and take the first action.  The good news is that if you return to the client with multiple radio buttons checked, the browser tries to clean that up for you and make only one of them really checked.  It turns out that the last one on the screen wins, so in this case, you will in fact end up with rdo2 as checked, and if you then make a trip to the server to run the code above, it will appear to be working properly.  However, if your page initializes with rdo2 checked and in code you set rdo1 to checked also, then when you go back to the client, rdo2 will remain checked, again because it is the last one and the last one checked “wins”. And this gets even uglier if you ever set these radio buttons to be disabled.  In that case, although the client browser renders the radio buttons as though only one of them is checked the system actually retains the value of both of them as checked, and your next trip to the server will really frustrate you because the browser showed rdo2 as checked, but your DoSomething1() routine keeps getting executed. The moral of the story is: if you do server-side manipulation of the Checked status of RadioButton controls, then you need to set ALL of the controls in a group whenever you want to change one.

  • Service Layer - how broad should it be, and should it be used also on the local application?

    Background: I need to build a main application with some operations (CRUD and more) (-in winforms), I need to make another application which will re-use some of the functions of the main application (-in webforms). I understood that using service layer is the best approach here. If I understood correctly the service should be calling the function on the BL layer (correct me if I'm wrong) The dilemma: In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL, or from the service? (please explain why) Should I create a service for every single function on the BL even if I need some of the functions only in one UI? for example - should I create services for all the CRUD operations, even though I need to re-use only update operation in the webform? YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED
