• I'm using the correct content type & Headers so Why is FireFox saving Zip Files without extensions

  Users on my site have the option to download all the photos in an album as a zip file.The Zip file is dynamically created and saved to Response.OutPutStream to be detected as a file download on the user's browser. Here is the Header and Content-type I am outputing context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Photos.zip"); context.Response.ContentType = "application/x-zip-compressed"; ..Well everything works fine with every browser except FireFox. Although Firefox correctly detects the download as a Zip file, It saves the file without the .zip extension. I thought adding this header context.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Photos.zip"); ..is supposed to force FF to save the extension. I believe I am following the correct protocol so why is FF behaving this way and how do I fix this?

• Update a file inside zip with -u

  Alright so i have a zip file called data.zip on my desktop. Inside test.zip is another folder called res and inside res is a file called info.txt I have used the zip -u command before to move a file inside the zip but only to the root of the zip i want to move a new version of info.txt from my desktop to the res folder of data.zip i need it for part of a script i'm working on. How can i do this or will the -u function only work for the root? Thank you for any help on how i can accomplish this

• How to queue up Windows 8 file coping to only have one copying at a time

  The new windows 8 file explorer copying is great. I can setup multiple copying tasks. They appear in a single window and I am able to pause them. Is there a way to have the copying only occur one at a time and when complete to progress the next one? Currently I have to setup the file copy and pause subsequent ones, then unpause the next one when I notice the current one finishes. I am only asking about a way to queue the file explorer coping and not use alternative tools like robocopy.

  Windows: You go to move a file and Windows throws up an “In Use” error. OpenFilesView shows you what application or system process is locking up the files you’re trying to move. Sometimes the culprit is obvious; if you go to move your media folder and you’ve got your media player open watching South Park then shutting down the media player is the obvious solution. Other times the culprit is less obvious; sometimes Windows processes and less-than-obvious applications are accessing your files in ways that aren’t apparent. The screenshot below showcases the “In Use” error: This is where OpenFilesView comes into play. Fire up the application to see a list of all active files on your system. The master list is a bit overwhelming (on our test system there were over 1200 open files) but you use the find command to drill down to specific file or folder names. Once you’ve found the locked file you can close the file handle, kill the process, or bring the process to the front (so you can examine the program, if possible, before terminating it). It’s much more efficient than rebooting in an attempt to shake the In-Use error. OpenFilesView is freeware and works on Windows XP through Windows 7. • Extract large zip file (50 GB) on Mac OS X

  I was trying to move the files to another hard drive. So I archived all my photos in one large ZIP file using the Mac OS X built-in compress function. But the file failed to extract. I've tried many programs, but none of the programs I tried were able to extract the file. I've tried Mac OS X's extract utility, StuffIt Expander, 7-Zip (command line), all failed. Mac's archive utility and StuffIt don't seem to support large files, and 7-Zip's command line version gave an error stating unsupported archive. I have no luck in Windows either as many of my files have Chinese filenames, and couldn't extract to the correct name under Windows. Are there some programs that can support large files, can handle files compressed using Mac OS X's compress function, and can support UTF-8 filename? With or without GUI is fine. Update Well, I had made the wrong decision to compress the files, and it's already too late. I thought I should be able to extract the file if I could compress it. It's too late, the original copies are gone, only a large ZIP file left here. I have tried using 'unzip', but it says End-of-central-directory signature not found. I guess it doesn't have large file support as well. I would try the Windows Vista method as stated by SuperMagic, but I need to borrow a computer for that. Anyway, thank you everyone, but please provide more suggestions on what software that could possibly extract that file.

  I have a zip library SharpZipLib which intended to work with ZIP archives using C#. It has parameter ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipConstants.DefaultCodePage which specifies encoding of file names in zip archive. I know that in Windows and in OSX different encodings are used to store file names. 1) Which encodings (code pages) are used in both? 2) How to determine programmatically which encoding is used? When I open in Win7 zip file packed under MacOS X, I see files with bad names (originally - cyrillic) and folder called __MACOSX, so I can say zip was prepared on Mac box. Any other way? What about other UNIX like systems?

• Linux - File was deleted and then reappeared when folder was zipped

  Hello, I am using Backtrack 4 Final, which is a Linux distro that is Ubuntu based. I had a directory that contained around 5 files. I deleted one of the files, which sent it to the trash. I then zipped the directory up (now containing 4 files), using this command: zip -r directory.zip directory/ When I then unzipped directory.zip, the file I deleted was in there again. I couldn't believe this, so I zipped up the directory again, and the file reappeared again but this time could not be opened because the operating system said it didn't exist or something. I don't remember the exact error, and I cannot make this happen again. Would anyone happen to know why a file that was deleted from a directory would reappear in that directory after it was zipped up? Thank you.

• Typing filename in standard open file dialog (Windows 7) - file name suggestion

  When you use standard windows open file dialog and start typing it puts files whose name starts with what you type to drop down list. But on another pc with same Windows 7 it also puts first of them into input box in which you type - like FF does with URLS, allowing you to immediately press Enter (without pressing 'Down' to select file). I don't know why this behavior is different, but I want suggested file name shown in input box. How could it be achieved? Thanks.

  The hosts file in Windows contains mappings of IP addresses to host names, like an address book for your computer. Your PC uses IP addresses to find websites, so it needs to translate the host names into IP addresses to access websites. When you enter a host name in a browser to visit a website, that host name is looked up in DNS servers to find the IP address. If you enter IP addresses and host names for websites you visit often, these websites will load faster, because the hosts file is loaded into memory when Windows start and overrides DNS server queries, creating a shortcut to the sites. Because the hosts file is checked first, you can also use it to block websites from tracking your activities on the internet, as well as block ads, banners, third-party cookies, and other intrusive elements on webpages. Your computer has its own host address, known as its “localhost” address. The IP address for localhost is 127.0.0.1. To block sites and website elements, you can enter the host name for the unwanted site in the hosts file and associate it with the localhost address. Blocking ads and other undesirable webpage elements, can also speed up the loading of websites. You don’t have to wait for all those items to load. The default hosts file that comes with Windows does not contain any host name/IP address mappings. You can add mappings manually, such as the IP address 74.125.224.72 for www.google.com. As an example of blocking an ad server website, you can enter the following line in your hosts file to block doubleclick.net from serving you ads. • unzip can't work well?

  Things like this, my friend send me a package named qcon.zip with his Mac pc. I use ubuntu system,when I use the command to unzip the folder,I found something was wrong.I check the permission,and use another soft named 7z,but it can't work now. when i use the command unzip qcon.zip unzip qcon.zip -d test/ it returns me that: unzip: cannot find or open ”-O, ”-O.zip or ”-O.ZIP. So after install 7z,the command I use , Error: qcon.zip: Can not open file as archive --add the command file--- file qcon.zip it returns qcon.zip: Zip archive data, at least v1.0 to extract So,what can I do now,the folder permission is right.

• Compiling zip component for PHP 5.2.11 in MAMP PRO

  Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613. When MAMP is launched it returns this error: [11-Apr-2010 16:33:27] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: zip: Unable to initialize module Module compiled with module API=20090626, debug=0, thread-safety=0 PHP compiled with module API=20060613, debug=0, thread-safety=0 These options need to match in Unknown on line 0 Can some body explain to me how to do this the right way.

Of course, 30Gb is far too large for a single dvd and the content is already zipped. • In cygwin, why is there a lingering file filename.zip in a directory after running rm filename.zip?

  In cygwin in windows vista, I tried to remove a few zip files I created from the command line in cygwin. The rm finished without complaining, but there remains entries for these zip files in the directory, that cannot be opened or deleted, either in cygwin or vista. For example, ls -l shows the following after performing the rm: $ ls -l ls: cannot access submission.zip: No such file or directory ls: cannot access otherfile.zip: No such file or directory total 36 ??????????? ? ? ? ? ? submission.zip -rwx------ 1 username None 68 May 4 13:36 makefile ??????????? ? ? ? ? ? otherfile.zip ... What's causing this, and how can I fix it?

• Specifying a file name for the FTP and File based transports in OSB

  A common question I receive is how to incorporate a variable value into a file name when using the FTP, SFTP, or File transports in Oracle Service Bus.  For example, if one of the fields in a message being put down to a file by the File transport is an order number variable, then how can you make the order number become part of the file name?  Another example might be if you want to specify the date in the file name.  The transport configuration wizard in OSB does not have an option to allow for this, other than allowing you to specify a static prefix of suffix variable.

• How do I batch rename a specific file inside multiple zip archives via the command line?

  I have about 200+ shareware files in zip format that each contain a file called "FILE_ID.DIZ". I need to know how to rename each instance to lowercase "file_id.diz" without doing it manually - I've already gone that route and it's pretty time consuming. That file has to be lowercase because the BBS program I'm using ignores the FILE_ID.DIZ as a description since it is uppercase. If I manually change it to lowercase, the description is imported successfully. I know that rar has a renaming switch, but then I'd have to batch convert all of the zip files to rar, and then back to zip. I'm not ruling that out entirely, but it seems like the long way around to resolving this. I found the man page for "zip_rename", which looks like it might do the trick, but I have no idea how to actually implement it. I refuse to do this on a Windows machine - I just can't and won't do it... it's the principle ;). Anyway, thanks for your time!

  Hello, community! I have some general questions regarding the java.util.zip library. What we basically do is an import and an export of many small components. Previously these components were imported and exported using a single big file, e.g.: <component-type-a id="1"/> <component-type-a id="2"/> <component-type-a id="N"/> <component-type-b id="1"/> <component-type-b id="2"/> <component-type-b id="N"/> Please note that the order of the components during import is relevant. Now every component should occupy its own file which should be externally versioned, QA-ed, bla, bla. We decided that the output of our export should be a zip file (with all these files in) and the input of our import should be a similar zip file. We do not want to explode the zip in our system. We do not want opening separate streams for each of the small files. My current questions: Q1. May the ZipInputStream guarantee that the zip entries (the little files) will be read in the same order in which they were inserted by our export that uses ZipOutputStream? I assume reading is something like: ZipInputStream zis = new ZipInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(fis)); ZipEntry entry; while((entry = zis.getNextEntry()) != null) { //read from zis until available } I know that the central zip directory is put at the end of the zip file but nevertheless the file entries inside have sequential order. I also know that relying on the order is an ugly idea but I just want to have all the facts in mind. Q2. If I use ZipFile (which I prefer) what is the performance impact of calling getInputStream() hundreds of times? Will it be much slower than the ZipInputStream solution? The zip is opened only once and ZipFile is backed by RandomAccessFile - is this correct? I assume reading is something like: ZipFile zipfile = new ZipFile(argv[0]); Enumeration e = zipfile.entries();//TODO: assure the order of the entries while(e.hasMoreElements()) { entry = (ZipEntry) e.nextElement(); is = zipfile.getInputStream(entry)); } Q3. Are the input streams retrieved from the same ZipFile thread safe (e.g. may I read different entries in different threads simultaneously)? Any performance penalties? Thanks for your answers!
