  Hi, I am migrating a website over to a new server, its in ASP and uses several Access databases, the site and CMS can read, display the data, and even edit and update existing data entries, but when I want to add a new entry, I get an error... Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046' Permission denied: 'CreateObject' /padp2010d/ads_tradetracker.asp, line 11 There seems to be no passwords on the databases, I have set up and tested the ODBC Data Sources and they are working fine.   I have been trying to replace a word in a text file with a value (say 1), but my outfile is blank.I am new to python (its only been a month since I have been learning it). My file is relatively large, but I just want to replace a word with the value 1 for now. The important hypothesisi is the following: I have an executable file, it can be an application written in any possible language (.net and not, Viual-Prolog, C++, C, everything that can be compiled as an .exe file). I want to profile it getting execution times. Well, the functoin accepts a program path, the stopwatch is started, the program run and the stopwatch then stopped. Problem: the System.Diagnostics.Process.Start is asynchronous and the next instruction (watch stopped) is not executed when the application finishes. A new process is created... I need to stop the timer once the program ends. I thought about the Process class, thicking it held some info regarding the execution times... not lucky... How to solve this?

• How to partition bits in a bit array with less than linear time

  This is an interview question I faced recently. Given an array of 1 and 0, find a way to partition the bits in place so that 0's are grouped together, and 1's are grouped together. It does not matter whether 1's are ahead of 0's or 0's are ahead of 1's. An example input is 101010101, and output is either 111110000 or 000011111. Solve the problem in less than linear time. Make the problem simpler. The input is an integer array, with each element either 1 or 0. Output is the same integer array with integers partitioned well. To me, this is an easy question if it can be solved in O(N). My approach is to use two pointers, starting from both ends of the array. Increases and decreases each pointer; if it does not point to the correct integer, swap the two. int * start = array; int * end = array + length - 1; while (start < end) { // Assume 0 always at the end if (*end == 0) { --end; continue; } // Assume 1 always at the beginning if (*start == 1) { ++start; continue; } swap(*start, *end); } However, the interview insists there is a sub-linear solution. Althought it would be desired, it is NOT an option to split the CSV list into another related table. In the example data below I would be trying to capture the code 99 for widget A. • Difference between float and double

  I know, i've read about the difference between double precision and single precision etc. But they should give the same results on most cases right ? I was solving a problem on a programming contest and there were calculations with floating point numbers that were not really big so i decided to use float instead of double, and i checked it - i was getting the correct results. But when i send the solution, it said only 1 of 10 tests was correct. I checked again and again, until i found that using float is not the same using double. I put double for the calculations and double for the output, and the program gave the SAME results, but this time it passed all the 10 tests correctly. I repeat, the output was the SAME, the results were the SAME, but putting float didn't work - only double. The values were not so big too, and the program gave the same results on the same tests both with float and double, but the online judge accepted only the double-provided solution. Why ? What is the difference ?

• How do I generate reports in R?

  I've been struggling for a week now trying to figure out how to generate reports in R using either Sweave or Brew. I should say right at the beginning that I have never used Tex before but I understand the logic of it. I have read this document several times. However, I cannot even get a simple example to parse. Brew successfully converts a simple markup file (just a title and some text) to a .tex file (no error). But it never ever converts tex to a pdf. > library(tools) > library(brew) > brew("population.brew", "population.tex") > texi2dvi("population.tex", pdf = TRUE) The last step always fails with: Error in texi2dvi("population.tex", pdf = TRUE) : Running 'texi2dvi' on 'population.tex' failed. What am I doing wrong? The report I am trying to build is fairly simple. I have 157 different analysis to summarize. Each one has 4 plots, 1 table and a summary. I just want output plot 1,2,3,4 output table \pagebreak ... that's it. Can anyone help me get further? I use osx, don't have Tex installed. thanks

  I need to write a process controller module on Linux that handles tasks, which are each made up of multiple executables. The input to the controller is an XML file that contains the path to each executable and list of command line parameters to be passed to each. I need to implement the following functionality: Start each executable as an independent Be able to kill any of the created processes independent of the others In order to do (2), I think I need to capture the pid when I create a process, to issue a system kill command. I tried to get access to pid in Java but saw no easy way to do it. All my other logic (putting info about the tasks in DB, etc) is done in Java so I'd like to stick with that, but if there are solutions you can suggest in C, C++, or Python I'd appreciate those, too.

• Logging to a file on Android

  Is there any way of retrieving log messages from an Android handset. I'm building an application which uses the GPS of my HTC Hero. I can run and debug the application from eclipse but this isn't a good use case of GPS, sat at my desk. When I fire the app up when I am walking around, I get an intermittent exception. Is there anyway I can output these exceptions to a text file on the SD card or output calls to Log.x("") to a text file so that I can see what the exception is. • Get newly created window using Win32 API hooks

  This may be a long short or not even possible but no harm in asking. What I am trying to do is monitor an application for any new windows it creates in its MDI control. I have implemented hooking in C# and can capture the MDICREATE window message but because I need to get information about the window after is has been created the MDICREATE message isn't much help because at that stage the window hasn't been created in the other application yet. Without going into to much detail I just need to be able to see when a new window has been created. Is this possible? Thanks

I need to perform basic cut and paste, replace operations for some columns.. the data is pretty well organized.. the only problem is I cannot play with it with Excel because of the size (2000 rows, 550000 columns). here is some part of the data: ID,Affection,Sex,DRB1_1,DRB1_2,SENum,SEStatus,AntiCCP,RFUW,rs3094315,rs12562034,rs3934834,rs9442372,rs3737728 D0024949,0,F,0101,0401,SS,yes,?,?,A_A,A_A,G_G,G_G D0024302,0,F,0101,7,SN,yes,?,?,A_A,G_G,A_G,?_? D0023151,0,F,0101,11,SN,yes,?,?,A_A,G_G,G_G,G_G I need to remove 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th columns; I need to find every _ character from column 10 onwards and replace it with a space ( ) character; I need to replace every ? with zero (0); I need to replace every comma with a tab; I need to remove first row (that has column names; I need to replace every 0 with 1, every 1 with 2 and every ? with 0 in 2nd column; I need to replace F with 2, M with 1 and ? with 0 in 3rd column; so that in the resulting file the output reads: D0024949 1 2 A A A A G G G G D0024302 1 2 A A G G A G 0 0 D0023151 1 2 A A G G G G G G (both input and output should read one line per row, ne extra blank row) Is there a memory efficient way of doing that with java(and I need a code to do that) or a usable tool for playing with this large data so that I can easily apply Excel functionality..

  I am working on a .NET 2.0 application targetting the WM5 SDK, what is the correct way to disable the gesture functionality when running on a WM6.5.3 device that only affects the forms I am using? This is causing an issue when I have a signature capture control inside a tab control - when the signature is entered it's quite common for the tab control to switch tabs as WM6.5.3 picks it up as a gesture. I don't want to disable the gesture functionality device wide, nor can I upgrade the application to target the WM6.5.3 SDK as it still needs to work on older devices. Cheers
