• How do cookies work when browsing websites

  On websites where you have to enter a user name and password, I notice that I can browse the site with one browser and it will know who I am no matter where I go on the site. But if I open a different browser it doesn't know who I am in that browser unless I log on in that browser. After I log in to a website, does it store some kind of cookie in my browser, and every time I navigate to a different page on that site, it checks the cookie for my identity? What would happen if I logged in, and then before browsing to a different page on the site, deleted the cookie?

  I have this object printed with console.log Array[1] 0: Object address: "blablabalbala" datatype: "Location" icon: "cafetaria" id: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" kind: "Mensa" lat: 50.777016 lon: 6.080348 sortkey: "zeltmensa, forum cafete" stationId: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" title: "Zeltmensa, Forum Cafete" type: "Mensa" But console.log("nav to: "+data[0].lat+" "+data[0].lon); gives me undefined undefined, and at another point NaN NaN.. I don't understand this. It also doesn't let me use any other attributes like data[0].addresse, which returns undefined aswell. Thanks for help.

  How can i see how many number of connections are opened in one request. (mysql_connect) I know that if i call mysql_connect function 100 times, function will return the connection link which is already opened only if parameters of the function is same. It will not request for new connection if connection is already exists. But i just want to make sure mysql_connect is not requesting new. I am working with a legacy system which contains so many "mysql_connect" function. Is there any setting in apache or is there any way i can log this number of connection value in apache or mysql log file? Please help.

It works sometimes but sometimes i get UnknownHostException. What can be the reason? Is there some problem with my internet or something else?   Standard AJAX query with jQuery: var globalTitle = ""; var pages = ["a", "b", "c"]; for (var i = 0; i < pages.length; i++) { createpage(pages[i]); } function createpage(title) { globalTitle=title; console.log (globalTitle); //All looks good here $.ajax({ url: "createpage.php?id=" + title, context: document.body, success: success }); } The success() function uses globaltitle which is why I had to declare it global. In the success() function though console.log (globalTitle); constantly gives me "a". It's like the variable is assigned but is then cached every time success() is called. Happens in FF 4 and Chrome 8. Any thoughts?

  As i understand it, you're supposed to use Environment.GetFolderPath method so you have OS independent code... WinXP uses C:\Docs and Settings\ Vista uses C:\ProgramData and c:\Users I'm using the code below on a vista computer and it's returning a c:\documents and settings directory instead of c:\ProgramData like it should...   This is in regards to applications that run in the taskbar but should be applicable to standard apps, Winforms, WPF, etc. Question: I am after some method (preferably via managed code) to be notified when a user either has their screen "locked" while my app is running and/or know when they log back in. GMail Notifier does this sort of thing for example, if my PC is locked for a while when I log in again it shows a list of emails that arrived since locking the PC. I'm looking to replicate that kind of functionality. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

  The thing is, I have a log-in page. And, when user enters Username & Password, they must be re-directed to success/failure page. Now, I have placed a "header('location:welcome.php');" after mysql rows are returned. But, it is giving me Header already sent errors, and I don't know much about PHP to do anything about it, let alone understand why it is happening. So, how to you transfer a user to another page after log-in data is verified? Same problem is happening with register, post, comment and search functions in my site.

  SqlCE has a parameter set on the Connect String called Flush Interval. It is defined as: The interval time (in seconds) before all committed transactions are flushed to disk. If not specified, the default value is 10. I thought that a committed transaction, by definition, is a transaction that has been flushed to disk, specifically the database file. If a transaction is only stored in RAM then cannot the transaction be easily lost? I thought that transactions were first written to a log file and then applied to the database file itself, so perhaps this parameter could mean the time to wait until the transaction log is applied to the database file? I would have thought that this parameter should be 0.

• What statistics app should I use for my website?

  I have my own server (with root access). I need statistics of users who visit my website etc etc... I have looked at an app called Webalyzer... Is this a good choice? I run apache2 on a Ubuntu 9 system... If you know of any good statistics apps for servers please let me know. And a follow-up question: All statistics are saved in log-files right? So how large would these log-files become then? Possibility to split them would be good, dont know if this is possible with Webalyzer though...

  Apache is the front-end to my web app then I use mod_rewrite to proxy the request to JBoss. So far this sounds pretty standard, but the problem I am having is: if I access the app directly through jboss @ http://localhost:8080/app/page?raw=foo%26bar&page=1: request.getParameter("raw") = foo&bar If I access the app through Apache @ http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 request.getParameter("raw") = foo So somewhere along the way, the %26 is lost and replaced with an & which chops the raw variable. This is my Apache rewrite rule. RewriteRule ^/(.*) \ http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=$1 [L,P] The Apache access log shows: http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 And the rewrite log shows: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo&bar&page=1 But I want the request to be: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo%26bar&page=1 I am pretty sure that this also occurs with slashes / too so to me this is some sort of encoding issue. Is there a way to proxy the URL untouched? Can't seem to figure this one out.

• Apache SSO through Kerberos using Machine Account

  I'm attempting to get Apache on Ubuntu 12.04 to authenticate users via Kerberos SSO to a Windows 2008 Active Directory server. Here are a few things that make my situation different: I don't have administrative access to the Windows Server (nor will I ever have access). I also cannot have any changes to the server made on my behalf. I've joined Ubuntu server to the Active Directory using PBIS open. Users can log into the Ubuntu server using their AD credentials. kinit also works fine for each user. Since I can't change AD (except for adding new machines and SPNs), I cannot add a service account for Apache on Ubuntu. Since I can't add I service account, I have to use the machine keytab (/etc/krb5.keytab), or at least use the machine password in another keytab. Right now I'm using the machine keytab and giving Apache readonly access (bad idea, I know). I've already added the SPN using net ads keytab add HTTP -U Since I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, the only encoding types that get added during "net ads keytab add" are arcfour-hmac, des-cbc-crc, and des-cbc-md5. PBIS adds the AES encoding types to the host and cifs principals when it joins the domain, but I have yet to get "net ads keytab add" to do this. ktpass and setspn are out of the question because of #1 above. I've configured (for Kerberos SSO) and tested both IE 8 Firefox.   What should happen is that [email protected] should be delivered to that users inbox on localhost, user@localhost. Thunderbird works fine at reading user@localhost.
