Which one can be the better one data access component for desktop application and why?
1.) For MS Access 2007: ADO, OLEDB, DAO
2.) For MSSQL 2005: ADO, OLEDB, DAO
Hello all,
I've been assigned the task to design a temporary customer tracking system in MS Access 2007 (sheeeesh!). The tables and relationships have all been setup successfully. But I'm running into a minor problem while trying to design the data entry form for one table... Here's a bit of explanation first.
The screen contains 3 dropdown boxes (apart from other fields).
1st dropdown
The first dropdown (cboMarket) represents the Market lets users select between 2 options:
Domestic
International
Since the first dropdown contains only 2 items I didn't bother making a table for it. I added them as pre-defined list items.
2nd dropdown
Once the user makes a selection in this one, the second dropdown (cboLeadCategory) loads up a list of Lead Categories, namely, Fairs & Exhibitions, Agents, Press Ads, Online Ads etc. Different sets of lead categories are utilized for the 2 markets. Hence this box is dependent on the 1st one.
Structure of the bound table, named Lead_Cateogries for the 2nd combo is:
ID Autonumber
Lead_Type TEXT <- actually a list that takes up Domestic or International
Lead_Category_Name TEXT
3rd dropdown
And based on the choice of category in the 2nd one, the third one (cboLeadSource) is supposed to display a pre-defined set of lead sources belonging to the particular category.
Table is named Lead_Sources and the structure is:
ID Autonumber
Lead_Category NUMBER <- related to ID of Lead Categories table
Lead_Source TEXT
When I make the selection in the 1st dropdown, the AfterUpdate event of the combo is called, which instructs the 2nd dropdown to load contents:
Private Sub cboMarket_AfterUpdate()
Me![cboLead_Category].Requery
End Sub
The Row Source of the 2nd combo contains a query:
SELECT Lead_Categories.ID, Lead_Categories.Lead_Category_Name
FROM Lead_Categories
WHERE Lead_Categories.Lead_Type=[cboMarket]
ORDER BY Lead_Categories.Lead_Category_Name;
The AfterUpdate event of 2nd combo is:
Private Sub cboLeadCategory_AfterUpdate()
Me![cboLeadSource].Requery
End Sub
The Row Source of 3rd combo contains:
SELECT Leads_Sources.ID, Leads_Sources.Lead_Source
FROM Leads_Sources
WHERE [Lead_Sources].[Lead_Category]=[Lead_Categories].[ID]
ORDER BY Leads_Sources.Lead_Source;
Problem
When I select Market type from cboMarket, the 2nd combo cboLeadCategory loads up the appropriate Categories without a hitch.
But when I select a particular Category from it, instead of the 3rd combo loading the lead source names, a modal dialog is displayed asking me to Enter a Parameter.
When I enter anything into this prompt (valid or invalid data), I get yet another prompt:
Why is this happening? Why isn't the 3rd box loading the source names as desired. Can any one please shed some light on where I am going wrong?
Thanks,
m^e
I have a PHP script that uses standard POST variables like $_POST['email']. When a form on a remote server sends a POST request to my script, it doesn't receive the POST data at all. It's not in $_REQUEST either.
Thanks for any help!
Hi,
I don't see a LINQ option when picking a data source for a grid view - any ideas?
I just upgraded to Visual Web Developer 2010. I see the other options like SQL etc.
Thanks!
I currently am working on a web application that needs to collect data from a form and will take the information and put it in a report format and sent it to a fax machine and print it out.
What is the easiest way to do this. I would like it to act similar to collecting informastion off of a form and then sending an email, but I would like to send it to a fax instead.
Thanks!
I'm implementing core data in my iphone app. It has two entities.
Entity1: LatestData
Entity2: LatestDetailedData
LatestData has URL, publishedDate, heading
LatestDetailedData has URL, NewsDescription, PublishedDate, Author
Both entities have same URL for a record.
Both the entities are connected with inverse relation ship. And the relation ship is "delete-Cascaded"
What I want: If I remove a record in LatestData, I want the record with same URL in LatestDetailedData must also be deleted.
How?
I have a complex XSD schema and hundreds of XML files conforming to the schema.
How do I automate the creation of related SQL Server tables to store the XML data?
I've considered creating C# classes from the XSD schema using the xsd.exe tool and letting something like Subsonic figure out how to make a shiny database out of it, but not sure if it's the best way to approach it.
Has anyone managed to elegantly import XSD files into SQL Server?
I have a very large form I need the user to complete. They need to be able to save their progress whether valid or not. When they have come back at a later time, they can update and make valid - then submit the data.
I am using client side scripting (xval), server side attributes on the domain model.
on a test for Java-MySQL-Restlet application, I write to database at 4reqs/second for 120 seconds.
In this write I insert a row that has foreign key which has the same value for all rows, and this exception occurs:
Could not recover transaction. Original exception follows. com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlDataTruncation: Data truncation: Out of range value for column 'idPxxx' at row 1
Only 5% of requests fails to this exceptions, others works.

i have a table "request" with 4 columns namely:
1.recId :long primary key
2.interactionId:long
3.requestedBy:boolean
4.requestedType:boolean
and data is as follows:
VALUES
(185,455699,0,5),
(186,455746,0,1),
(187,455746,1,1),
(188,455752,0,1),
(189,455753,0,1),
(190,455753,1,1),
(191,455754,1,1)
i want a query to fetch all the rows where interactionId is same and having requestedBy both 1 and 0 values and requestType=1;

Nihar
I'm working on a web based form builder that uses a mix of Jquery and PHP server side interaction. While the user is building the form I'm trying to determine the best method to store each of one of the form items before all the data is sent to the server. I've looked at the following methods
Javascript arrays
XML document
Send each form item to the server side to be stored in a session
If I have a cube divided into 8 smaller cubes, each of which may be subdivided into a further 8 cubes, ad infinitum, what is the name of my system?
I know that it's a special case of a tree, where each brance contains exactly 8 other leaves/branches.
I remember the name starting with "Oct", and there was a wikipedia article on it, but I honestly can't find it!
Does anyone know what such a data structure is actually known as?
We have a xml column in SQL Server 2008. We need to do reporting off the data in the xml so we're going to select the xml into a flat table. The flat table has columns that correspond to various nodes in the xml.
What is the best way to do this using SSIS?
Is this a good approach? Or should we just try and write the reports directly off the xml column?
Hi, I want to generate some test data so for each row in a table I want to insert 10 random rows in another, see below:
INSERT INTO CarFeatures (carID, featureID)
SELECT C.ID, F.ID
FROM dbo.Cars AS C
OUTER APPLY (
SELECT TOP 10 ID
FROM dbo.Features
ORDER BY NEWID()
) AS F
Only trouble is this returns the same values for each row. How do I order them randomly?
Hi folks, i am trying to optimize performance for my database. My question is - what get cached in the db memory? For example:
(table with 2 columns: key (indexed), data (not indexed) updated (not indexed)
Select * where updated=20100202
(the db will do a scan - will the scanned rows be kept in memory?)
Select * where key = 20
(the db will refer to the index - will the identified rows be kept in memory?)
We have a database setup that consists of two parts: a static structure, and dynamic additions. For each database, the dynamic can be different, and sometimes we don't have data for all the dynamic fields. Rigt now, we check for empties by looking at the total count of records in the entire table, but we want to move to a more refined method of checking for empties if possible. Is it possible to quickly check through several hundred fields and see which ones are empty and which ones are populated?
Just I started learning ADO.NET Data Services. Some Pages show the querying
like (sample)
http://localhost:1705/ServiceExample/SomeService.svc/Persons(1)/Name
http://localhost:1705/ServiceExample/SomeService.svc/Persons(1)/Name/$value
Is it XPath or XQuery? Where can i get complete rules for forming such queries with examples?
Thanks in advance.
How to create a new data type for Go which to can check/validate its schema when is created a new variable (of that type)?
By example, to validate if a string has 20 characters, I tried:
// Format: 2006-01-12T06:06:06Z
func date(str string) {
if len(str) != 20 {
fmt.Println("error")
}
}
var Date = date()
type Account struct {
domain string
username string
created Date
}
but it fails because Date is not a type.
I have laptop with an external e-sata/USB combo port. I have an internal Seagate SATA drive removed from another laptop. I want to recover the data in this disc. Is it possible to connec t this hardisk through the e-SATA port? If so, what cable would I need to connect in?
I think the question is clear enough. Some of the columns in my datawarehouse table could have a relationship to a primary key. But is it good practice? It is denormalized, so it should never be deleted again (data in datawarehouse). Hope question is somewhat clear enough.
