  • HAML-like syntax for non-HTML documents?

    - by Peter
I love using HAML for HTML documents. It has clean syntax that's much more attractive than ERB. It works perfectly for HTML documents. What about for non-HTML? Such as, for example, an email or text document with certain automatically-substituted components? I've been falling back to ERB, but don't like the heavy syntax compared to HAML. Is there any way to use HAML for ordinary documents without having divs and html elements appear when % and . start a line? Or is there some alternative to both HAML and ERB that I should investigate?

  • Rails: Auto-Detecting Database Adapter

    - by Dex
The new version of the ar-extensions gem requires that you load the appropriate adapter yourself. On my development side I use mysql, however Heroku uses PostgreSQL. For example, on my development side I need to do this: require 'ar-extensions/adapters/mysql' require 'ar-extensions/import/mysql' How can I audo-detect which adapter to use?

  • Rails - Format number as currency format in the Getter

    - by daemonsy
I am making a simple retail commerce solution, where there are prices in a few different models. These prices contribute to a total price. Imagine paying $0.30 more for selecting a topping for your yogurt. When I set the price field to t.decimal :price, precision:8, scale:2 The database stores 6.50 as 6.5. I know in the standard rails way, you call number_to_currency(price) to get the formatted value in the Views. I need to programmatically call the price field as well formatted string, i.e. $6.50 a few places that are not directly part of the View. Also, my needs are simple (no currency conversion etc), I prefer to have the price formatted universally in the model without repeated calling number_to_currency in views. Is there a good way I can modify my getter for price such that it always returns two decimal place with a dollar sign, i.e. $6.50 when it's called? Thanks in advance.

  • (Rails) Assert_Select's Annoying Warnings

    - by CalebHC
Does anyone know how to make assert_select not output all those nasty html warnings during a rake test? You know, like this stuff: .ignoring attempt to close body with div opened at byte 1036, line 5 closed at byte 5342, line 42 attributes at open: {"class"=>"inner02"} text around open: "</script>\r\t</head>\r\t<body class=\"inner02" text around close: "\t</div>\r\t\t\t</div>\r\t\t</div>\r\t</body>\r</ht" Thanks

  • Help getting ActiveScaffold to work properly

    - by x3ro
Hey there I was curious about the ActiveScaffold Rails plugin, but somehow I can't get it to work properly. I've followed the steps which are described on http://activescaffold.com/tutorials/ . The table and everything shows up and when I click on "Create new", the dialog pops up. However, when I fill out the form and click "Create", I just get "500 Internal server error". In the server log, it says "NameError (wrong constant name ###):", with ### being what I entered in the first form field. If I don't enter anything in the form, it says "NoMethodError (undefined method `new_record?' for #):"... So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance for your help :)

  • Rails, search item in different model?

    - by Danny McClelland
Hi Everyone, I have a kase model which I am using a simple search form in. The problem I am having is some kases are linked to companies through a company model, and people through a people model. At the moment my search (in Kase model) looks like this: # SEARCH FACILITY def self.search(search) search_condition = "%" + search + "%" find(:all, :conditions => ['jobno LIKE ? OR casesubject LIKE ? OR transport LIKE ? OR goods LIKE ? OR comments LIKE ? OR invoicenumber LIKE ? OR netamount LIKE ? OR clientref LIKE ? OR kase_status LIKE ? OR lyingatlocationaddresscity LIKE ?', search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition, search_condition]) end What I am trying to work out, is what condition can I add to allow a search by Company or Person to show the cases they are linked to. @kase.company.companyname and company.companyname don't work :( Is this possible? Thanks, Danny

  • One way Has-Many-Through

    - by Hock
Hello, I have a Category, a Subcategory and a Product model. I have: Category has_many Subcategories Subcategory has_many Products Subcategory belongs_to Category Product belongs_to Subcategory Is there a way to have something like Category has_many Projects through Subcategories ? The 'normal' rails way wouldn't work because "subcategory" doesn't belongs to product so product does not have a subcategory_id field. Instead, I need the query to be something like SELECT * FROM products WHERE id IN category.subcategory_ids Is there a way to do that? Thanks, Nicolás Hock Isaza

  • mongrel_rails start command not found

    - by sean
On my server I am unable to run mongrel_rails start. I looked in /usr/bin/ and could not locate the mongrel_rails file. Instead I found it in /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin. The file includes #!/usr/bin/ruby1.8, but I am still not getting this to work.

  • Rails 2.3.2: Accessing Model Specific Data in Another Model

    - by Gimli
I'm using Rails 2.3.2 and using Paperclip to upload photos. I'm also using a slightly customized subdomain_accounts.rb to set some account-specific variables. My question is this: How can I set the bucket used in Paperclip to be dependent on the current account? Since this looks to be a model attribute set up early on, how can I override it later? Thanks.

  • how to have separate keys per record in mongo_mapper + Rails

    - by Vitaly Kushner
When I'm adding a record in mongodb I can specify whatever keys I want and it will store it in the db. The problem is that it will remember those keys for the next time I insert another record. so for example if I do the following: Product.create :foo => 123 and then Product.create :bar => 456 I get :foo => nil field in the 2nd record. This is definitely not a limitation of mongodb itself, since if I restart the rails console and create yet another record with different set of columns, it will not add the columns from the 1st 2 records. So it seems like mongomapper remembers all the keys used and inserts them all into all records, even if values are not provided. The question is obviously: how do I disable this crazy attributes explosion? Basically I want only the 'permanent' keys that I specify in the model to be in every record, but all the 'extra' attributes to be specified per record and not to mess the consequent records.

  • Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

    - by sscirrus
I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

  • How to let users post links/images to Facebook, Twitter, Buzz etc... from a Rails based website?

    - by wgpubs
I'd like to offer users the ability to post images / links to articles from my web application to Facebook, Twitter, Buzz and any other social network. A perfect example of the functionality I'm trying to replicate is mashable.com ... where each social network is represented by an icon that a) shows the number of shares AND b) allows users to click on it to post to that specific network. Don't know if it matters ... but the site is built using RoR. Thanks

  • Rails Habtm with a field

    - by moshimoshi
Hello, Is that possible to have a field in a has and belongs to many table? Just like favorite: create_table :messages_users, :id => false, :force => true do |t| t.integer :message_id, :null => false t.integer :user_id, :null => false t.boolean :favorite, :null => false t.timestamps end I saw timestamps works well, thanks to ActiveRecord. But when I try to add favorite into the table and then I try: Message.first.users << User.first Then I get this error message: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: SQLite3::SQLException: messages_users.favorite may not be NULL: INSERT INTO "messages_users" ("created_at", "message_id", "updated_at", "user_id") VALUES ('''2010-05-27 06:07 :50.721512''', 1, '''2010-05-27 06:07:50.721512''', 1) I would like to use a habtm, I don't like has_many foo though bar association :) Is that possible? Thanks a lot.

  • DRb connecting to linux client from windows

    - by Christopher Dancy
I have a few DRb services running on different windows machines and they can all connect and talk with each other just fine. When I put these DRb services on Linux machines and try to connect from windows nothing happens and I get a DRB:ConnError ... the service on Linux is never touched. So I did a netstat on the linux box and the service(port) were not listed anywhere even though the program is clearly running. Is there someting that I'm missing when talking to DRb services on Linux from a windows machine?

  • Can rails test speed be increased?

    - by Sam
Hi all, I'm a recent convert to TDD but as my codebase grows in size and complexity, I find myself waiting longer and longer periods for the framework to load every time I want to run a test. I am aware of rspec's spec_server but I'm using Test::Unit with shoulda. I tried Snailgun (http://github.com/candlerb/snailgun) but noticed very little increased in speed. I have also tried spork-testunit (http://github.com/timcharper/spork-testunit) but it's not fully compatible with my existing tests. The delay in running tests is a definite pain point and is putting me of TDD (at least with rails). Is anyone aware of any other options? thanks Sam

  • Nest input inside f.label ( rails form generation )

    - by Mike
I want to use the f.label method to create my form element labels, however - i want to have the form element nested inside the label. Is this possible? -- From W3C -- To associate a label with another control implicitly, the control element must be within the contents of the LABEL element. In this case, the LABEL may only contain one control element. The label itself may be positioned before or after the associated control. In this example, we implicitly associate two labels with two text input controls: <FORM action="..." method="post"> <P> <LABEL> First Name <INPUT type="text" name="firstname"> </LABEL> <LABEL> <INPUT type="text" name="lastname"> Last Name </LABEL> </P> </FORM>

  • Rails wiki highlight/strikethrough version differences between article versions

    - by mark
Hi I'm wondering how to implement highlighting of changes to user edited articles on a wiki style rails project. Since articles may be fairly lengthy I'd ideally like strikethrough and highlighting, similar to github and wikipedia for example. Despite searching around the net I've not really come up with much, apart from instiki which is a complete wiki application. Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • rails, activerecord callbacks not saving

    - by Joseph Silvashy
I have a model with a callback that runs after_update: after_update :set_state protected def set_state if self.valid? self.state = 'complete' else self.state = 'in_progress' end end But it doesn't actually save those values, why not? Regardless of if the model is valid or not it won't even write anything, even if i remove the if self.valid? condition, I can't seem to save the state. Um, this might sound dumb, do I need to run save on it?

  • How to :update after :success with link_to_remote Rails method?

    - by Kevin
Hi, I'm trying to get two things done after a user clicks on a link: Delete a div Add another element at the bottom of the page I played with Rails link_to_remote and what I get with the code below is that the element is added before the div is deleted: <%= link_to_remote "&#x2713;", :url => { :controller => :movies, :action => :mark_as_seen, :movie => movie, :render => 'movie' }, :success => "Effect.Fade('movie_#{movie.id}_wrapper', { duration: 0.4 })", :update => "movies", :position => "bottom", :failure => "alert('Ooops! An error occurred.')" %> I tried to put :update and :position in a :complete callback, but nothing happened. And when I put both of them in the :success callback (after Effect.Fade), all I get is a parsing error. Any idea? Thanks, Kevin
