  • Java Session Like Object

    - by scriptmonster
    I have been developing a project and in this project i have designed my code to do the same job after a specified time interval continuously. The job that wanted to be done has a lot of distinct cycles. The interval is small to execute them normally thus i used threads. Until that point everything is clear for me. To decrease the process and information transaction i wanted to put an session like object that holds the given data and provide it to any thread at anytime. With this object i plan to not query the same configuration information from database at everytime but if it exists on the session take it else query and store on session. I'm not sure how to implement this structure. Regards,

  • Right method to build a online whiteboard - JAVA

    - by Nikhar Sharma
    I am building a whiteboard, which would have a server(teacher) and clients(students). Teacher would draw something on his side, which will be shown exactly same to the students. I want to know which component i should use to do the drawing? i am currently drawing on JPanel . I want the screen of Server gets copied on the clients, so for that what could be the right method to do this? option1: i save the JPanel as image, and send thru socket, and loads it on the screen of client, also it always saves the background image only, not what the user has drawn onto it. OR option2: both server and client JPanel dimensions are same, so i just send the new coordinates drawn everytime thru socket, with some protocol to understand whether it is rubber or pencil.. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How does one implement a truly asynchronous java thread

    - by Ritesh M Nayak
    I have a function that needs to perfom two operations, one which finishes fast and one which takes a long time to run. I want to be able to delegate the long running operation to a thread and I dont care when the thread finishes, but the threads needs to complete. I implemented this as shown below , but, my secondoperation never gets done as the function exits after the start() call. How I can ensure that the function returns but the second operation thread finishes its execution as well and is not dependent on the parent thread ? public void someFunction(String data) { smallOperation() Blah a = new Blah(); Thread th = new Thread(a); th.Start(); } class SecondOperation implements Runnable { public void run(){ // doSomething long running } }

  • Better way to write this Java code?

    - by Macha
    public void handleParsedCommand(String[] commandArr) { if(commandArr[0].equalsIgnoreCase("message")) { int target = Integer.parseInt(commandArr[1]); String message = commandArr[2]; MachatServer.sendMessage(target, this.conId, message); } else if(commandArr[0].equalsIgnoreCase("quit")) { // Tell the server to disconnect us. MachatServer.disconnect(conId); } else if(commandArr[0].equalsIgnoreCase("confirmconnect")) { // Blah blah and so on for another 10 types of command } else { try { out.write("Unknown: " + commandArr[0] + "\n"); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println("Failed output warning of unknown command."); } } } I have this part of my server code for handling the types of messages. Each message contains the type in commandArr[0] and the parameters in the rest of commandArr[]. However, this current code, while working seems very unelegant. Is there a better way to handle it? (To the best of my knowledge, String values can't be used in switch statements, and even then, a switch statement would only be a small improvement.

  • Java How to get exact tile location in random tile engine

    - by SYNYST3R1
    I am using the slick2d library. I want to know how to get the exact tile location so when I click on a tile it only changes that tile and not every tile on the screen. My tile generation class public Image[] tiles = new Image[3]; public int width, height; public int[][] index; public Image grass, dirt, selection; boolean selected; int mouseX, mouseY; public void init() throws SlickException { grass = new Image("assets/tiles/grass.png"); dirt = new Image("assets/tiles/dirt.png"); selection = new Image("assets/tiles/selection.png"); tiles[0] = grass; tiles[1] = dirt; width = 50; height = 50; index = new int[width][height]; Random rand = new Random(); for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { index[x][y] = rand.nextInt(2); } } } public void update(GameContainer gc) { Input input = gc.getInput(); mouseX = input.getMouseX(); mouseY = input.getMouseY(); if(input.isMouseButtonDown(Input.MOUSE_LEFT_BUTTON)) { selected = true; } else{ selected = false; } } public void render() { for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { tiles[index[x][y]].draw(x * 64, y *64); if(IsMouseInsideTile(x, y)) selection.draw(x * 64, y * 64); } } } public boolean IsMouseInsideTile(int x, int y) { return (mouseX >= x * 64 && mouseX <= (x + 1) * 64 && mouseY >= y * 64 && mouseY <= (y + 1) * 64); } I have tried a couple different ways to change the tile I am clicking on, but I don't understand how to do it.

  • How to Create Own HashMap in Java?

    - by Taranfx
    I know about hashing algorithm and hashCode() to convert "key" into an equivalent integer (using some mathematically random expression) that is then compressed and stored into buckets. But can someone point me to an implementation or at least data structure that should be used as baseline? I haven't found it anywhere on the web.

  • How would you code an efficient Circular Buffer in Java or C#

    - by Cheeso
    I want a simple class that implements a fixed-size circular buffer. It should be efficient, easy on the eyes, generically typed. EDIT: It need not be MT-capable, for now. I can always add a lock later, it won't be high-concurrency in any case. Methods should be: .Add and I guess .List, where I retrieve all the entries. On second thought, Retrieval I think should be done via an indexer. At any moment I will want to be able to retrieve any element in the buffer by index. But keep in mind that from one moment to the next Element[n] may be different, as the Circular buffer fills up and rolls over. This isn't a stack, it's a circular buffer. Regarding "overflow": I would expect internally there would be an array holding the items, and over time the head and tail of the buffer will rotate around that fixed array. But that should be invisible from the user. There should be no externally-detectable "overflow" event or behavior. This is not a school assignment - it is most commonly going to be used for a MRU cache or a fixed-size transaction or event log.

  • Blackberry (Java) - Drawing graphics on top of rendered text/buttons etc

    - by paullb
    Based off the one of the demos I have the following code. Currently what displays in the simulator is just hte contents of the paint function, however the ObjectChoiceField is still selectable if one happens to click in the right location. I would like both the text contents and the paint function contents to appear. Is this possible? public CityInfoScreen() { //invoke the MainScreen constructor super(); //add a screen title LabelField title = new LabelField("City Information Kiosk", LabelField.ELLIPSIS | LabelField.USE_ALL_WIDTH); setTitle(title); //add a text label add(new RichTextField("Major U.S. Cities")); //add a drop-down list with three choices: //Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York //... String choices[] = {"Los Angeles","Chicago","New York"}; choiceField = new ObjectChoiceField("select a city", choices); add(choiceField); Manager man = this.getMainManager(); } ... public void paint(Graphics g){ super.paint(g); // g.drawRect(0,left,500,500+left); g.setGlobalAlpha(0); g.drawRect(100-left,100-top,200,200); String text = new Integer(left).toString(); String text2 = new Integer(top).toString(); g.drawText(text + " " + text2,120-left,120-top); }

  • Java Swing custom shapes (2D Graphics)

    - by juFo
    I need to draw custom shapes. Now when a user clicks on several points on the panel I create a shape using a polygon. public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) { polygon.addPoint(e.getX(), e.getY()); repaint(); } But I don't know if this is the best way to draw custom shapes. It should be possible to edit a drawn shape: resize change its fill color change the stroke color copy/paste it move a single point of the polygon ... I have seen people creating an own class implementing the Shape class and using a GeneralPath. But again I have no idea if this is a good way. Now I can create my own shape with a polygon (or with a GeneralPath) but I have no clue how to attach all the edit functions to my own shape (the edit functions I mean the resize, move, etc from above). I hope somebody could show me a way to do this or maybe write a little bit of code to demonstrate this. Thanks in advance!!

  • RSA implementations for Java, alternative to BC

    - by Tom Brito
    The RSA implementation that ships with Bouncy Castle only allows the encrypting of a single block of data. The RSA algorithm is not suited to streaming data and should not be used that way. In a situation like this you should encrypt the data using a randomly generated key and a symmetric cipher, after that you should encrypt the randomly generated key using RSA, and then send the encrypted data and the encrypted random key to the other end where they can reverse the process (ie. decrypt the random key using their RSA private key and then decrypt the data). I can't use the workarond of using symmetric key. So, are there other implementations of RSA than Bouncy Castle?

  • Beginner Java Question about Integer.parseInt() and casting

    - by happysoul
    so when casting like in the statement below :- int randomNumber=(int) (Math.random()*5) it causes the random no. generated to get converted into an int.. Also there's this method I just came across Integer.parseInt() which does the same ! i.e return an integer Why two different ways to make a value an int ? Also I made a search and it says parseInt() takes string as an argument.. So does this mean that parseInt() is ONLY to convert String into integer ? What about this casting then (int) ?? Can we use this to convert a string to an int too ? sorry if it sounds like a dumb question..I am just confused and trying to understand Help ?

  • Stateful Iterators Java

    - by Gitmo
    What is a Stateful Iterator? This question relates to an Iterator defined in Hadoop for performing Joins. As the reference documentation states: This defines an interface to a stateful Iterator that can replay elements added to it directly. Note that this does not extend Iterator. What does 'replay elements added to it directly' mean? How is this iterator different from a usual iterator?

  • How to track value of a variable in Eclipse Java Debugger

    - by aveschini
    I would like to track the value of a boolean (not Boolean) variable in the Eclips debugger. I need to know when it does change and, for this, i need to track it's value through all the execution; not only when it is in scope. More particularly i have a class (let's call it myClass) with a boolean member variable called isAvailable. My program instantiate 4 or 5 myClass objects. I am expecting that at the end of the execution the isAvailable value of all of my objects is set to true. Contrarily to my excpectation one of myClass objects has isAvailable set to false. I need to know which (in a lot of) methods is setting isAvailable to false.
