• Android. How do I keep a button displayed as PRESSED until the action created by that button is finished?

  I have button_focused, button_pressed, and button_normal images. When I press the button, the button_pressed image is displayed and the action related to the button pressing begins. When I quit pressing the button, the action continues but the button returns to button_normal image being displayed. How can I set the button image being displayed to button_pressed during the entire action then reset to the button_normal image? Thank you for your time

• Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

  i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things   Hi, I recently struggled with an apparently simple Android layout: I wanted a WebView above a Button. It worked fine with the following parameters: WebView: Height: wrap-content Weight: unset (by the way, what is the default?) Button: Height: wrap-content Weight: unset However if the web page became too big it spilled out over the button. I tried various combinations of weights and heights, and all except one either completely hide the button, or partially cover it. This is the one that works (copied from http://code.google.com/p/apps-for-android/source/browse/trunk/Samples/WebViewDemo/res/layout/main.xml): WebView: Height: 0 Weight: 1 Button: Height: wrap-content Weight: unset If you change any of those, e.g. give button a weight or change the WebView height to wrap-content then it doesn't work. My question is: Why? Can someone please explain what on Earth the android layout system is thinking?

  Before I delve into it, I'm very new to Android and I have just started learning Java last month. I've hit bumps while trying to develop my first simple app. Most of these hurdles were jumped thanks to random tutorials online. MY CODE IS VERY MESSY. Any tips are appreciated. It calculates your BAC based on the factors involved. When I press the add beer button (Button01) I make it add 1 to StandardDrinks, simulating drinking one beer. The other variables in the Bac formula have values assigned to them in Global.java. The other elements of the formula (weight, time spent drinking, and the alcohol %'s and such) are variables because I will ultimately allow the user to change those values in the settings. I've heard around the water cooler that global variables are not good programming style, but this is the closest I've come to getting it to work. Any other ways of doing it are very much welcomed!

  Hi, I'm trying to draw an image in an ImageView, but i want it to be unscaled, with scrollbars as necessary. How can I accomplish this? Right now I just have a drawable set as the android:src of the ImageView in the XML. This autoscales the image to fit the screen width. I read that this might be because of the compatibility mode (developing for 1.5, testing on 2.1), but then I added <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> to my manifest, and nothing changed. Any clues?

• Using resource values as layout attributes (config.xml)

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string. In the sdk, they use an integer for animation duration. They reference it like this: android:duration="@android:integer/config_longAnimTime". Is there a way to use values that aren't integers in the layout_height attribute?

• What are the names of network interfaces on the Motorola CLIQ?

  The network interfaces on Android interfaces are listed as directories in the file system in /sys/class/net/. For most Android devices the network interface for gprs traffic is called rmnet0 and for Wi-Fi it's usually eth0 or tiwlan0. I suspect that the cell interface for the Motorola CLIQ is rmnet0, but I would like to have this confirmed + know the name of the Wi-Fi interface. Also it would be good to know the device id for this model. This is the value available as android.os.Build.DEVICE in the Java SDK. (E.g. T-Mobile G1 uses dream, Samsung Galaxy uses GT-I7500, and Motorolda Droid uses sholes.)

• Writing to a java socket channel which should be closed does not generate an exception

  Hi all, We have a java server that keeps a socket channel open with an Android client in order to provide push capabilities to our client application. However, after putting the Android in airplane mode, which I expected would sever the connection, the server can still write to the SocketChannel object associated with that Android client and no error is thrown. Calling SocketChannel.isConnected() before writing to it returns true. What are we missing? Is the handling of sockets different with mobile devices? Thanks in advance for your help.

• Running Endpoint locally could not provide access to API explorer when HTTP proxy is enabled

  I'm using Android Studio(0.5.8) on Window7 x64 for developing my Android App with Google AppEngine backend. If my machine is having direct internet access and I launch backend locally (as DevApp Server) and access my API Endpoints through webbrowser (chrome) it is all working as expected. Accessing api explorer is also working fine from webbrowser. http://localhost:8080/_ah/api/explorer But if I have configured internet through http proxy (in Android Studio and also in webbrowser) then webbrowser displays initial page of backend but can't access endpoint api explorer. And deploying appbackend in Google AppEngine also fails with errors. gradlew backend:appengineUpdate Same is working fine if direct internet access is available (not via http proxy). How can we make it work with http proxy also? Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

  For an Android multiplayer game's communication between players I'm using a WebSocket server and TooTallNate's Java library on the client side to enable WebSocket support in the Android app. So just to point it out clearly, WebSocket support in mobile browsers is not important to me. Unfortunately, users report that they're experiencing problems such as connection failures or unreceived messages. Is that a general problem of WebSockets on mobile devices (blocked ports, firewalls, mobile Internet connection) or is that probably a flaw in the client side code? Do you have experience with WebSocket client libraries such as the one above? I've just discovered autobahn.ws for Android - but I don't know if it's worth switching from my current library (see above). What about WAMP? Is WebSocket technology not exactly the adequate solution so that I should use the sub-protocol (?) WAMP?

  I am trying to install on a VM that is offline. I have downloaded eclipse. I have downloaded the android sdk and pointed to it in eclipse. I still cannot see any target platforms in order to create an android project. What am i missing? I need to set this up without using the android sdk/avd manager to download the platforms. • Bitmap in ImageView is cropped off the screen

  I'm working on an Android application that needs to download an image and display it inside an image view. The Bitmap is passed to the main java file and added to the image view like this: comic = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.comic); comic.setImageBitmap(c.getImageBitmap()); This works, except that the left side of the image disappears off the screen. The ImageView is in a ScrollView and the scroll view maintains the correct size. This means that there is black space to the right in the ScrollView and the image is cut off to the left. The XML for the ImageView is this: <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" Any idea why my image is being cut off? Thanks!

• Cannot get admob working: configChanges error

  I know there are some topics about it, but the reason I start this one is I appear not to be able to solve it with solutions given. I want to add admob to my project. I downloaded GoogleAdMobAdsSdk-6.2.1 and added it to my project. When I startup it says You must have AdActivity declared in AndroidManifest with configChanges. So solution found, set it to: android:configChanges="keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation|screenLayout|uiMode|screenSize|smallestScreenSize" and <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" android:targetSdkVersion="15" /> Clean it, try again. But now I get an error saying following although my targetSdkVersion is set to be min 12, I really don't know why I am still getting this error: String types not allowed (at 'configChanges' with value 'keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation| screenLayout|uiMode|screenSize|smallestScreenSize') Any ideas on this? There might be another setting wrong which I looked over?

  I've created a combo box control with a edittext and spinner. I'm trying to let the android:prompt attribute be passed onto the spinner, which means I need to catch it in the constructor which passes my the AttributeSet and set it on the spinner. I can't figure out how to get the value of the prompt. I'm trying, int[] ra = { android.R.attr.prompt }; TypedArray ta = context.getTheme().obtainStyledAttributes(ra); int id = ta.getResourceId(0, 0); I get back 0, which means it didn't find the attribute. I also did a ta.count() which returned 0. So I'm not getting anything back. My XML simply defines an android:prompt value. Thanks

• Intent to be fired when a call ends?

  Hi I have an already built application and I want to add a feature that has to be started when a call ends. How can I achieve that? I thought that declaring in my manifest something like this <activity android:name="Filter"> <intent-filter> <category android:name="android.intent.SOMETHING" /> </intent-filter> </activity> could be enough, but what kind of intent I have to put on the filter? Looking in the documentation I found only the intents that detects when a call is started. Is what I'm looking for possible? Thanks

  Hi How do I filter noise of the accelerometer data in Android? I would like to create a high-pass filter for my sample data so that I could eliminate low frequency components and focus on the high frequency components. I have read that Kalman filter might be the best candidate for this, but how do I integrate or use this method in my application which will mostly written in Android Java? or can it be done in the first place? or through Android NDK?
