• How to decide between a method or event?

  I read something ages ago I think by Jon Skeet (which I can't find now) saying that in IL, all events get converted to methods... it was before I understood C# and did not understand it all, but if that is (or even if it isn't) the gist of it.... In a purely hypothetical situation, I was wondering if someone could explain or point me to a resource that says when to use an event over a method? Basically, If I want to have a big red/green status picture which is linked to a Bool field, and I wanted to change it based on the value of the bool, should I: a) Have a method called Changepicture which is linked to the field and changes the state of the bool and the picture. b) Have a get/set part to the field and stick an event in the set part. c) Have a get/set part to the field and stick a method in the set part. d) Other?

  I am having problem getting this piece of code to run. The class is Student which has a IdCounter, and it is where the problem seems to be. I used FileZilla as my FTP Client .. When I give the host name and the password, Port number as 21 and try to login it says.. Connection Timed Out.. and says.. Could Not Connect to server .   I'll explain my situation first: I'm interested of using the Bitmap constructor that takes scan0, stride and format, because I'm decoding tiled images and I'd like to choose my own stride so I can decode the tiles without caring about the bounds in the decoder part. Anyway, the problem is that the documentation says: The caller is responsible for allocating and freeing the block of memory specified by the scan0 parameter. However, the memory should not be released until the related Bitmap is released. I can't release the buffer easily, because the Bitmap is then passed to another class that will eventually destroy it and I don't have control over it. Is there some way (hacky, I know) to tell the GC to also release my buffer when the Bitmap is destroyed? (Also, any alternative solution is welcome).

• Android TranslateAnimation resets after animation

  I'm creating something like a SlideDrawer but with most customization, basically the thing is working but the animation is flickering at the end. To further explain, I got an TranslateAnimation then after this animation it returns back to the original position, if i set setFillAfter then the buttons inside the layout stops working. If i listen to onAnimationEnd and set other's layout to View.GONE the layout fickers. Judging from it is that on animation end, the view goes back to original position before the View.GONE is called. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

• iDevice for Dummies: Can a device be assigned multiple provisions (Personal/Enterprise)?

  Hi guys, Is it possible to assign multiple provisions to an iDevice? To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terminology, but basically, I'm developing an iPad app for a company and I've only been testing it in the simulator because I don't have a registration to the developer program and they haven't setup their enterprise registration yet either. And I'm sure you all know how limited the simulator is... I don't really care about the $99 it costs to join, but what I'm worried about is having my iDevices locked permanently to my personal registration and unable to switch back and forth to the enterprise registration. I'd appreciate it if someone can explain to me how the registrations work. And keep in mind, I'm a dummy. :) Thanks in advance!

• How does linq decide between inner & outer joins

  Hi Usually linq is using an left outer join for its queries but on some cases it decides to use inner join instead. I have a situation where that decision results in wrong results since the second table doesn't always have suitable records and that removes the records from the first table. I'm using a linqdatasource over a dbml where the relevant tables are identical but one holds historical records removed from the first. both have the same primary key. and I'm using a dataloadoption to load both tables at once with out round trips. Would you explain why linq decided to use an inner join here? Thanks

• Not sure how to use Decode, NVL, and/or isNull (or something else?) in this situation

  I have a table of orders for particular products, and a table of products that are on sale. (It's not ideal database structure, but that's out of my control.) What I want to do is outer join the order table to the sale table via product number, but I don't want to include any particular data from the sale table, I just want a Y if the join exists or N if it doesn't in the output.   I have noticed a strange Sql Translation in a LinqToSql Query I was trying to optimise. If I execute the following Recipients.GroupJoin( RecipientAttributes, x => x.Recipient_Id, y => y.Recipient_Id, (x,y) => new {Recipient = x, Attributes = y}) .Skip(1) .Take(1000) It executes in a single query as expected. However Recipients.GroupJoin( RecipientAttributes, x => x.Recipient_Id, y => y.Recipient_Id, (x,y) => new {Recipient = x, Attributes = y}) .Skip(0) .Take(1000) executes in a separate query for each Attributes selection. Removing the Skip(0) makes no difference either. Can anyone explain this and is there something I can do to get the first page query executing in a single sql statement?

  i have seen a few days ago such problem there is given two array find elements which are common of these array one of the solution was sort big array and then use binary search algorithm and also there is another algorithm- brute-force algorithm for (int i=0;i<array1.length;i++){ for (int j=0;j<array2.length;j++){ if (array1[i]==array2[j]){ //code here } } it's complexity is O(array1.length*array2.length); and i am interested the first method's complexity is also same yes? because we should sort array first and then use search method binary search algorithm's complexity is log_2(n) so it means that total time will be array.length*log_2(n) and about sort? please explain me which is better

I have a problem, will explain how to reproduce the problem: 1- login into my page (sesion variables set as $_SESSION['logged'] = true and $_SESSION['id'] = 123 2-then inside the main menu I click logout option, code like this function logout() { session_start(); $_SESSION['id'] = null; $_SESSION['logged'] = null; unset($_SESSION); session_destroy(); require_once('Views/SessionExpiredView.php'); } 3- In the session expired view I display a link the login page, there session is null 4- I click back on the browser and click ok to resend information 5- session becomes again $_SESSION['logged'] = true and $_SESSION['id'] = 123 and I'm loggued again and able to see all the information related to the id 123 This is a security issue and I don't know what is happening!!! any suggestion will be deeply appreciated. • Visual Studio C++ adds "junk" to my programs

  I have looked into the binaries produced by MSVC 2010 from my source code, and saw everything being filled with "junk". I don't know how to explain, but my executables are being added too much unnecessary information, like: Lots of Microsoft default error messages, I don't want them XML schema settings (Why!?) Other things not important for the execution of the main program How can I stop MSVC doing this? Do I have to switch to GCC? In all other programs (written in C++ too, from Word processors to games), this junk simply doesn't exist.

  Hi I've just start studying NHibernate 2 days ago, and i'm looking for a CRUD method that i've writed based on an tutorial. My insert method is: using (ISession session = Contexto.OpenSession()) using (ITransaction transaction = session.BeginTransaction()) { session.Save(noticia); transaction.Commit(); session.Close(); } The complete code of "Contexto" is here: http://codepaste.net/mrnoo5 My question is: Do i really need to use ITransaction transaction = session.BeginTransaction() and transaction.Commit();? I'm asking this because i've tested run the web app without those two lines, and i've sucefully inserted new records.
