I recently ran across Project Keychain and wanted to know if there are any other SPML to LDAP gateways that are open source. Implementation language does not matter.
When I recently asked about the uses of Ruby someone told me it was good for prototyping. I basically know what that means, quickly get the very base of your app up and working, see if there are conceptual problems and then add the rest.
Am I right with how I understand prototyping?
What would be a concrete example of prototyping a Snake game in Ruby or any other language?
in symfony 2.0 and django there are bundles that contain everything for a feature (html, css, js, img, php/python).
so if you want to delete one feature, you basically just delete that bundle and unregister it from "main".
are there java frameworks for this too? or is it different in java cause java is a compiling language.
thanks
I am using config file which contains:
config.php
define('SYS_TITLE','My Application Title');
I load language local for gettext based on SESSION variable in another file included after the config file is loaded.
something like:
echo _(SYS_TITLE);
What is the best way to translate the SYS_TITLE without changing much of the code.
i have a rhel 4 server and use php as a server side scripting language. There are many doc and excel files that are uploaded to the server daily. i make these files to be downloaded. i want to implement the view as html feature and they should preserve the formatting also. so which tools can be used or it can be done through php only. (on php4)
Does anyone know of an app that can monitor a beanstalkd queue? I'm looking for something that shows stats on tubes and jobs, and allows you to inspect the details.
I'm not really picky about language/platform, just want to know if there's something out there before I write my own.
I'm building a CMS which needs to manage content in english, chinese, and spanish at a minimum. Do most markdown implementations handle UTF-8 encoded text? Is the Markdown language designed to be used with non-english languages? I'm currently using Markdown Extra by Michel Fortin.
I'm looking for a solution for producing SPSS format data files for loading into SPSS. The few offerings I can find are all commercial.
Has anyone experience with generating SPSS-format data files using open-source, freeware or home-grown solutions?
I'm not even sure that the file format is "open". Any hints appreciated (any language is fine, although java, perl or ruby preferred).
So hell froze over and Apple accepted Opera Mini into the app store. Does anyone know what the user agent string will be?
The documentation says that Opera's template is like this:
Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/$CLIENT_VERSION/$SERVER_VERSION; U; $LANGUAGE) Presto/$PRESTO_VERSION
In visual studio datasource designer(The screen where you have all the UML Diagrams including relations) is there any way to refresh a table and its relations/foreign key constraints without refreshing the whole table?
The way I am doing it at the moment is removing the table and adding it again. This adds all the relations and refreshes all fields.
Also if I change a fields data type, is there a way to automatically refresh all the fields in the datasource? Again without deleting the table and adding it again.
Reason for this is because some of my TableAdapters have quite a number of complex queries attached to them and when I remove the table the adapter gets removed as well including all its queries.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 and connecting to a MySQL database.
I am interested in how hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=validate actually works and I am struggling to find comprehensive documentation.
We've recently discovered production system was affected by http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-3532 (Hibernate matches foreign keys on name, rather than signature and so will recreate them for you) and hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=update is being removed from our next release.
I would be quite happy to just get rid of hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto altogether and manage our database ourselves. However, not all my colleagues share this world view and some are keen to add back in hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=validate.
I'm concerned this will hit the same problem and I'm interested in finding more documentation about how this validation actually works. The Hibernate Community Documentation (http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/core/3.3/reference/en/html/session-configuration.html) really just makes reference to the values.
Does anyone have any good documentation pointers, or any real life experience of using validate in a production system?
hi
I know about the built-in I18n in Rails, but how can I select a database field per locale?
My model structure is something like this:
title #default (englisch)
title_de #(german)
title_it #(italian)
In my template I want to be able to write only
<%= @model.title %>
and should get the value in the right language.
Is there a plugin or a solution to use different fields per different locale settings with a structure like mine?
I have some ASP code that I've "inherited" from my predecessor (no, it's not an option to update it at this time...It would take an act of not only Congress, but every other foreign country too) and I'm having an issue sending mail on one of the pages. It is an almost identical code snippet from the other page, but this one throws an error when I try to 'Send'.
Code below:
Set myMail=CreateObject("CDO.Message")
myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing")=2
'Name or IP of remote SMTP server
myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver")="localhost"
'Server port
myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport")=25
myMail.Configuration.Fields.Update
myMail.Subject="Subject"
myMail.From=from_email
myMail.To=email
myMail.TextBody= "Body Text of message"
myMail.Send
The error thrown is:
Error Type:
(0x8004020F)
The event class for this subscription is in an invalid partition
I'd appreciate any and all help!!!
Thanks!

I just watched the Super Mario Bros. -1 World glitch in youtube and I really began wondering about the code behind those games. Which language was used? What about the OS for the video games consoles? Are there any website with resources about this subject? (I am a 90s video gamer so I am particularly interested about the programming behind those games but feel free to make this a wiki and include links to resources about video games programming in general, if you want)
Hi,
As I mentioned in my yesterday's post, I'm trying to teach myself templates from the book: Templates: The Complete Guide. And although I'm finding this book very nicely presented and material there is explained really well there are no exercises attached after each chapter to test your knowlege, like it is in The C++ Language by B.S for example and had done all exercises from "The C++" I really feel benefit from doing them. So what I'm asking today is: Does anyone know where can I get excersises with templates.
Thank you.
I saw a similar question about the reason Google Chrome wasn't written in C#. But with the upcoming version of Windows and Microsoft's flagship language, I am having a hard time understanding why Microsoft isn't pushing C# to its fullest potential to give it more exposure via their market share?
In addition can be interpreted as "Is C# and the .Net framework suitable to run a modern OS like Windows 7"
Btw this is not a flaming question, but curiosity. I use C# daily and really love it.
I want to create excel sheet from asp.net application using C# language.
please reply me how to create it and also if having source. I don't know how to create it.
Also I want drop down list in one of column. how we can do this.
Please reply me its urgent....

Girish
I have provided support for two languages, English and Chinese, in my iPhone application. I use string files for the languages using "key"-"value" pairs and my application displays the appropriate language using NSLocalizedString(@"Fund red not red?", @"").
I get only Chinese text when I run the app in XCode. How can I switch to different languages in XCode (iPhone simulator)?
I have the following tables in the database:
teams:
id
name
matches:
id
team1_id
team2_id
I've defined the following ORM models in my Kohana application:
class Match_Model extends ORM {
protected $belongs_to = array('team1_id' => 'team', 'team2_id' => 'team');
}
class Team_Model extends ORM {
protected $has_many = array('matches');
}
The following code in a controller:
$match = ORM::factory('match',1);
echo $match->team1_id->name; /* <-- */
Is throwing the following error on the linke marked with /* <--- */:
Trying to get property of non-object
The framework is yielding the value of the foreign key instead of a reference to a Match_Model instance as it should (giving the has_many and belongs_to properties stated).
Am I missing something?
Note: Just in case, I've added the irregular plural 'match' => 'matches' in application/config/inflector.php
Hi,
Just started learning/reading about DI and IOC frameworks.
Also I read many articles on SO and internet that say that one should prefer
DI/IOC over singleton.
Can anyone give/link examples of exactly how DI/IOC eliminates/solves the various issues regarding the Singleton pattern?
(hopefully code and explanation for better understanding)
Also given a system has already implemented Singleton pattern,
how to refactor/implement DI/IOC for the same?
(any examples for the same?)
(Language/Framework no bars..C# would be helpful)
Thanks
Hey there,
seems that I am not permitted to use QtScript for my own script interpreter, although QtScript is GPLed.
But do you know anything about the JavaScriptCore's license?
Am I allowed to use this for my own scripting language?
Cheers,
Manuel
I've been programming for 15+ years, and I've done perl programming 3 times in the past. Every time I come back to it, I remember nothing of the language. It's very bizarre. Now it's time to hit perl again, and I'm wondering what the best Intro / Reference / Best Practice sites are that people use.
Which Perl Intro / Reference site do you recommend?
So I'm getting a new job working with databases (Microsoft SQL Server to be precise). I know nothing about SQL much less SQL Server. They said they'd train me, but I want to take some initiative to learn about it on my own to be ahead. Where's the best place to start (tutorials, books, etc)? I want to learn more about the SQL language moreso than any of the fancy point and click stuff.
Hello
I am wondering how agile (fast to develop yet stable) asp.net MVC compared to frameworks using dynamic languages such as Django or Ruby on Rails.
I will be happy if you share you experiance in the name of development speed (assuming each language/framework is known at a similar level)
Things I love about Django
Fast model design thanks to ORM
Good template system
Not too hard to deploy
Easy to extend
Lots of free apps to plugin and great documentation
Thanks
