  • Declaration, allocation and assignment of an array of pointers to function pointers

    - by manneorama
    Hello Stack Overflow! This is my first post, so please be gentle. I've been playing around with C from time to time in the past. Now I've gotten to the point where I've started a real project (a 2D graphics engine using SDL, but that's irrelevant for the question), to be able to say that I have some real C experience. Yesterday, while working on the event system, I ran into a problem which I couldn't solve. There's this typedef, //the void parameter is really an SDL_Event*. //but that is irrelevant for this question. typedef void (*event_callback)(void); which specifies the signature of a function to be called on engine events. I want to be able to support multiple event_callbacks, so an array of these callbacks would be an idea, but do not want to limit the amount of callbacks, so I need some sort of dynamic allocation. This is where the problem arose. My first attempt went like this: //initial size of callback vector static const int initial_vecsize = 32; //our event callback vector static event_callback* vec = 0; //size static unsigned int vecsize = 0; void register_event_callback(event_callback func) { if (!vec) __engine_allocate_vec(vec); vec[vecsize++] = func; //error here! } static void __engine_allocate_vec(engine_callback* vec) { vec = (engine_callback*) malloc(sizeof(engine_callback*) * initial_vecsize); } First of all, I have omitted some error checking as well as the code that reallocates the callback vector when the number of callbacks exceed the vector size. However, when I run this code, the program crashes as described in the code. I'm guessing segmentation fault but I can't be sure since no output is given. I'm also guessing that the error comes from a somewhat flawed understanding on how to declare and allocate an array of pointers to function pointers. Please Stack Overflow, guide me.

  • When is the onPreExecute called on an AsyncTask running parallely or concurrently?

    - by Debarshi Dutta
    I am using Android HoneyComb.I need to execute some tasks parallely and I am using AsyncTask's public final AsyncTask executeOnExecutor (Executor exec, Params... params) method.In each separate thread I am computing some values and I need to store then in an ArrayList.I must then sort all the values in the arrayList and then display it in the UI.Now my question is if one of the thread gets completed earlier than the other then will it immediately call the onPostExecute method or onPostExecute method will be called after all the background threads have been completed?MY program implementation depends on what occurs here.

  • Using pointers to adjust global objects in objective-c

    - by Rob
    Ok, so I am working with two sets of data that are extremely similar, and at the same time, these data sets are both global NSMutableArrays within the object. data_set_one = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; data_set_two = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; Two new NSMutableArrays are loaded, which need to be added to the old, existing data. These Arrays are also global. xml_dataset_one = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; xml_dataset_two = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; To reduce code duplication (and because these data sets are so similar) I wrote a void method within the class to handle the data combination process for both Arrays: -(void)constructData:(NSMutableArray *)data fromDownloadArray:(NSMutableArray *)down withMatchSelector:(NSString *)sel_str Now, I have a decent understanding of object oriented programming, so I was thinking that if I were to invoke the method with the global Arrays in the data like so... [self constructData:data_set_one fromDownloadArray:xml_dataset_one withMatchSelector:@"id"]; Then the global NSMutableArrays (data_set_one) would reflect the changes that happen to "array" within the method. Sadly, this is not the case, data_set_one doesn't reflect the changes (ex: new objects within the Array) outside of the method. Here is a code snippet of the problem // data_set_one is empty // xml_dataset_one has a few objects [constructData:(NSMutableArray *)data_set_one fromDownloadArray:(NSMutableArray *)xml_dataset_one withMatchSelector:(NSString *)@"id"]; // data_set_one should now be xml_dataset_one, but when echoed to screen, it appears to remain empty And here is the gist of the code for the method, any help is appreciated. -(void)constructData:(NSMutableArray *)data fromDownloadArray:(NSMutableArray *)down withMatchSelector:(NSString *)sel_str { if ([data count] == 0) { data = down; // set data equal to downloaded data } else if ([down count] == 0) { // download yields no results, do nothing } else { // combine the two arrays here } } This project is not ARC enabled. Thanks for the help guys! Rob

  • Opening my application when a usb device is inserted on Windows using WMI

    - by rsteckly
    Hi, I'm trying to launch an event when someone plugs in a usb device. For now, I'm content to simply print something to the console (in the finished product, it will launch an application). This code is very loosely adapted from: http://serverfault.com/questions/115496/use-wmi-to-detect-a-usb-drive-was-connected-regardless-of-whether-it-was-mounted There's two problems: 1) I need to pass the argument to Management scope dynamically because this will be installed on computers I don't use or whose name I don't know. 2) I'm getting an invalid namespace exception when I call w.Start(); Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? static ManagementEventWatcher w=null; static void Main(string[] args) { AddInstUSBHandler(); for(;;); } public static void USBRemoved(object sneder, EventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine("A USB device inserted"); } static void AddInstUSBHandler() { WqlEventQuery q; ManagementScope scope = new ManagementScope("HQ\\DEV1"); scope.Options.EnablePrivileges=true; q=new WqlEventQuery(); q.EventClassName+="_InstanceCreationEvent"; q.WithinInterval=new TimeSpan(0,0,3); q.Condition=@"TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_USBControllerdevice'"; w=new ManagementEventWatcher(scope,q); w.EventArrived+=new EventArrivedEventHandler(USBRemoved); w.Start(); }

  • C++ data member initializer is not allowed

    - by user1435915
    I totally new to C++ so bear with me. I want to make a class with a static array, and access to this array from the main. Here is what i want to do in C#. namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Class a = new Class(); Console.WriteLine(a.arr[1]); } } } ===================== namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Class { public static string[] s_strHands = new string[]{"one","two","three"}; } } Here is what i have tried: // justfoolin.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include "stdafx.h" #include <string> #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Class { public: static string arr[3] = {"one", "two", "three"}; }; int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { Class x; cout << x.arr[2] << endl; return 0; } But i got: IntelliSense: data member initializer is not allowed

  • System.Interactive: Difference between Memoize() and MemoizeAll()?

    - by Joel Mueller
    In System.Interactive.dll (v1.0.2521.0) from Reactive Extensions, EnumerableEx has both a Memoize method and a MemoizeAll method. The API documentation is identical for both of them: Creates an enumerable that enumerates the original enumerable only once and caches its results. However, these methods are clearly not identical. If I use Memoize, my enumerable has values the first time I enumerate it, and seems to be empty the second time. If I use MemoizeAll then I get the behavior I would expect from the description of either method - I can enumerate the result as many times as I want and get the same results each time, but the source is only enumerated once. Can anyone tell me what the intended difference between these methods is? What is the use-case for Memoize? It seems like a fairly useless method with really confusing documentation.

  • ASP .NET Added Event Handlers to buttons on Page_Load. Event handlers do not fire the first click, b

    - by John
    Background: I am customizing an existing ASP .NET / C# application. It has it's own little "framework" and conventions for developers to follow when extending/customizing its functionality. I am currently extending some of it's administrative functionality, to which the framework provides a contract to enforce implementation of the GetAdministrationInterface() method, which returns System.Web.UI.Control. This method is called during the Page_Load() method of the page hosting the GUI interface. Problem: I have three buttons in my GUI, each of which have been assigned an Event Handler. My administration GUI loads up perfectly fine, but clicking any of the buttons doesn't do what I expect them to do. However, when I click them a second time, the buttons work. I placed breakpoints at the the beginning of each event handler method and stepped through my code. On the first click, none of the event handlers are triggered. On the second click, they are triggered. Any ideas? Example of Button Definition Button btn = new Button(); btn.Text = "Click Me Locked Screen"; bth.Click += new EventHandler(Btn_Click); Example of Event Handler Method Definition void Btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Do Something }

  • No Hibernate Exception on the same insert of data

    - by Mark Estrada
    Hi All, Hibernate Newbie here. I am quite unsure why I am not getting any exception when I am executing below code. On first attempt, this code creates the Book Entry on my Book Table. But my concern is that when I execute below code again, no error was pop out by Hibernate. I was in fact expecting some sort of Violation of Primary Key Constraints as what I have bee doing in JDBC code. public class BookDao { public void createBook(Book bookObj) { Session session = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory() .getCurrentSession(); session.beginTransaction(); session.saveOrUpdate(bookObj); session.getTransaction().commit(); } } public class HibernateUtil { private static final SessionFactory sessionFactory = buildSessionFactory(); private static SessionFactory buildSessionFactory() { try { // Create the SessionFactory from hibernate.cfg.xml return new AnnotationConfiguration().configure() .buildSessionFactory(); } catch (Throwable ex) { // Make sure you log the exception, as it might be swallowed ex.printStackTrace(); throw new ExceptionInInitializerError(ex); } } public static SessionFactory getSessionFactory() { return sessionFactory; } } public class BookDBStarter { public static void main(String[] args) { Book bookHF = new Book(); bookHF.setIsbn("HF-12345"); bookHF.setName("Head First HTML"); bookHF.setPublishDate(new Date()); BookDao daoBook = new BookDao(); daoBook.createBook(bookHF); } } Is this normal hibernate way? And how will I know if my insert is successful? Any thoughts?

  • Type classe, generic memoization

    - by nicolas
    Something quite odd is happening with y types and I quite dont understand if this is justified or not. I would tend to think not. This code works fine : type DictionarySingleton private () = static let mutable instance = Dictionary<string*obj, obj>() static member Instance = instance let memoize (f:'a -> 'b) = fun (x:'a) -> let key = f.ToString(), (x :> obj) if (DictionarySingleton.Instance).ContainsKey(key) then let r = (DictionarySingleton.Instance).[key] r :?> 'b else let res = f x (DictionarySingleton.Instance).[key] <- (res :> obj) res And this ones complains type DictionarySingleton private () = static let mutable instance = Dictionary<string*obj, _>() static member Instance = instance let memoize (f:'a -> 'b) = fun (x:'a) -> let key = f.ToString(), (x :> obj) if (DictionarySingleton.Instance).ContainsKey(key) then let r = (DictionarySingleton.Instance).[key] r :?> 'b else let res = f x (DictionarySingleton.Instance).[key] <- (res :> obj) res The difference is only the underscore in the dictionary definition. The infered types are the same, but the dynamic cast from r to type 'b exhibits an error. 'this runtime coercition ... runtime type tests are not allowed on some types, etc..' Am I missing something or is it a rough edge ?

  • android app crashes if keyboard was shown

    - by Jaume
    I have an activity that I force keyboard to appears using, InputMethodManager inputMethodManager=(InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); inputMethodManager.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED, 0); keyboard appears properly and also obscured when needed. Problem is when I finish the activity, app crashes. If the activity never shows keyboard or shows it without start editing text, it is finished with no errors but if you just write one single character or more, app will crash. How to solve it? thank you. method used to finish activity, boto_back.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View arg0) { InputMethodManager inputMethodManager=(InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); inputMethodManager.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.HIDE_IMPLICIT_ONLY, 0); finish(); } }); @Override public void onDestroy() { if (adMob != null) { // Destroy the AdView. adMob.destroy(); } super.onDestroy(); } logcat, 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.TabBar_iOSActivity}: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.webPush}: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2693) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2711) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread.java:121) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:976) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:130) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3701) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:507) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:866) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:624) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.webPush}: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2693) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2603) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.LocalActivityManager.dispatchDestroy(LocalActivityManager.java:622) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityGroup.onDestroy(ActivityGroup.java:85) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.xxxx.projecte1.TabBar_iOSActivity.onDestroy(TabBar_iOSActivity.java:417) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2680) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): ... 11 more

  • Which design is better (OO Design)?

    - by Tattat
    I have an "Enemy" object, that have many "gun" . Each "gun" can fire "bullet". Storing "gun" is using an array. when the "gun" is fired, the "bullet" will be created. And the enemy object will have an array to store the "bullet". So, I am thinking about the fire method. I am think making a firebulletFromGun in the "enemy". It need have a parameter: "gun". while this method is called. The "enemy" 's bullet will be added in the Array. Another design is writing the fire method in the "gun". The "enemy" use the "gun"'s fire method. And the "gun" will return a "bullet" object, and it will be added in the Array of "enemy". Both method can work, but which way is better? or they are similar the same? plx drop ur ideas/suggestions. thz.

  • Exception handling protocol for methods

    - by athena
    Is there any specific protocol for handling exceptions in public methods? Consider this eg. public int someMethod() { try{ code that might throw an exception } catch(Exception e) { log the exception } } Say that this method might throw an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException. So, is it correct to handle this Exception in the method itself (as in the example) or throw it and assume that the calling method will handle the Exception?

  • android error NoSuchElementException

    - by Alexander
    I have returned a cursor string but it contains a delimiter. The delimiter is . I have the string quest.setText(String.valueOf(c.getString(1)));I want to turn the into a new line. What is the best method to achieve this task in android. I understand there is a way to get the delimeter. I want this to achieved for each record. I can itterate through record like so. Cursor c = db.getContact(2); I tried using a string tokenizer but it doesnt seem to work. Here is the code for the tokenizer. I tested it in just plain java and it works without errors. String question = c.getString(1); // quest.setText(String.valueOf(c.getString(1))); //quest.setText(String.valueOf(question)); StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(question,"<ENTER>"); //DisplayContact(c); // StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(question, "=<ENTER>"); while(st.hasMoreTokens()) { String key = st.nextToken(); String val = st.nextToken(); System.out.println(key + "\n" + val); } I then tried running it in android. • Java apache commons library source license question

    - by llm
    I want to use functionality from a certain method in apache commons StringUtils. I currently do not have the option of just using the library as one would normally do. I found the source for the method I need and my question is: am I free (legally) to use this code (just a method out of the library) or do I have to use the entire library? If its ok, what kind of attribution would I need in my code, if any? Thanks.

  • problems with retrieving data that was saved outside of a grails webflow

    - by callie16
    Hi, this is actually connected to an earlier question of mine here. Anyway, I have 3 domains that look like this: class A { ... static hasMany = [ b : B ] ... } class B { ... static belongsTo = [ a : A ] static hasMany = [ c : C ] ... } class C { ... static belongsTo = [ b : B ] ... } In my GSP page, I call an action in the Controller via a remote function in a javascript block (I'm using Dojo so I'm passing data to be saved this way... it's not a form per se so I use JSON for now to pass the data to the Controller). Let's say, I'm calling something like this: def someAction = { def jsonArr = [parse the JSON here] def tmpA = A.get(params.id) ... def tmpB = new B() b.someParam = jsonArr.someParam ... def tmpC = new C() tmpC.cParam = jsonArr.cParam tmpB.addToC(tmpC) tmpB.save(flush: true) //this may or may not be here but I'm adding it for the sake of completeness tmpA.addToB(tmpB) tmpA.save(flush: true) // NOTE: If I check here via println or whatnot, tmpA has a tmpB which has a tmpC... in other words, the data got saved. It's also in the DB. redirect(action: 'order' ...) } Then comes the fun part. Here's the webflow sample: def orderFlow = { ... someStateIShouldEndUpIn { on("next") { // or on previous... doesn't matter def anId = params.id def currA = A.get(anId) // this does NOT return a null value def testB = currA.b // this DOES return a null value }.to("somePage") ... } ... } Any ideas on why this happens? Moreover, when I dump the data of currA, b=null... instead of b=[] or b=[contents of tmpB]. Any help would be seriously appreciated... been at this for a couple of days now... Thanks!

  • Script Speed vs Memory Usage

    - by Doug Neiner
    I am working on an image generation script in PHP and have gotten it working two ways. One way is slow but uses a limited amount of memory, the second is much faster, but uses 6x the memory . There is no leakage in either script (as far as I can tell). In a limited benchmark, here is how they performed: -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 65.626 | 540,036 | 200 Two | 20.207 | 3,269,600 | 200 -------------------------------------------- And here is the average of the previous numbers (if you don't want to do your own math): -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 0.328 | 540,036 | 1 Two | 0.101 | 3,269,600 | 1 -------------------------------------------- Which method should I use and why? I anticipate this being used by a high volume of users, with each user making 10-20 requests to this script during a normal visit. I am leaning toward the faster method because though it uses more memory, it is for a 1/3 of the time and would reduce the number of concurrent requests.

This is what is finally came up with. Is there any better way than the second implementation(isPrime2).

  • Some specific questions about object oriented and MVC design.

    - by Samn
    I have two objects, Users and Mail. Users create Mail objects and send them to other users. If I wanted to get all mail for a User, I could create a method like GetMail() that would return an array of Mail objects owned by that User. But if I wanted to get all mail across the system, what "type" of object would be responsible for that? To solve this problem, I usually create a Manager, which is an object responsible for dealing with a collection of a particular type of object. MailManager deals with collections of Mail objects. GetMailForUser() is one method, GetAllMail() is another method. The User objects invokes the MailManager and executes GetMailForUser(me). Is this stupid? When a user executes the controller CreateMail, a new instance of the Mail object is created. The Mail object, seeing it is creating a new Mail of type 'sent', decides to go ahead and create a second Mail object for the recipient, of type 'received'. Creating one Mail object triggers the creation of a second Mail object. Is this stupid? Should the controller have created both Mail objects, or just the first 'sent' one? When two Users are friends, the association is stored in a table of Relationships. I use a simple object for Relationships. A RelationshipManager has a method called GetFriendsForUser(). The User object has a method GetFriends(), which invokes the RelationshipManager. Is this stupid?

  • REST - why we need million urls and different HTTP request?

    - by Andre
    I asked this question. But I still don't understand why we need to utilize different HTTP requests: DELETE/PUT/POST/GET in order to build nice API Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to pass all information in request parameters and have a SINGLE ENTRY-POINT for your api?: GET www.example.com/api?id=1&method=delete&returnformat=JSON GET www.example.com/api?id=1&method=delete&returnformat=XML or POST www.example.com/api {post data: id=1&method=delete&returnformat=JSON} POST www.example.com/api {post data: id=1&method=delete&returnformat=XML} and then - we can handle all methods and data internally without the need for hundreds of urls... how would you call this type of API - It's not REST apparently, it's not SOAP. then - what is it? UPDATE I'm not proposing any new standards here. I merely asking a question in order to better understand why web services work the way they work.
