  • Transitioning from the web to the desktop

    Can anyone recommend a language, library, framework or book which focuses on GUI programming from the perspective of a web developer? I have experience in web development, for example HTML/AJAX/PHP/MySQL among similar technologies. However, I have never programmed my own back-end, or any kind of standalone program. Does anyone have experience making this transition, and what would I best study to help make the leap from the browser to creating programs with GUIs (primarily for Windows)?

  • keep image inside a frame

    Hi can anyone help me with a problem please. I am not looking for anybody to write code for me but just give me a few pointers. I want to to put a frame or border around an image in actionscript3. I want to use an image that is considerably bigger than the border. the effect would be that the image would move around but only show what is inside the border. similar to looking through a keyhole ?? my best effort was to do a reverse mask, where the mask did not move but without success. If anyone has any idea's I would be very grateful Thanks

    I like to reverse this query: SELECT * FROM table WHERE status IN ( option,option1,option2 ); in a query like SELECT * FROM table WHERE status contains ( 'option' ); Where field 'status' column contains (by example): 'option,option1'. When I use SELECT * FROM table WHERE status LIKE '%option%' ); It also selects the rows with a 'status' column that only contains 'option1' Is this possible? example data: id,name,status 1,'test1','option,option1' 2,'test2','option,option2' 3,'test3','option2' 4,'test4','option2,option3' 5,'test5','option' SELECT * FROM table WHERE status contains ( 'option' ); This query should select select record 1,2 and 5. 'status' field type is varchar. The problem is that the status fields contains data that is almost alike, exept from the added number to option. Off course this is a made up example but the real thing has this kind of parameters

  • Jquery/CSS help needed to make fallback for IE and older browsers

    Wondering if any of you can help me: I've made a signup modal that uses a CSS transform to switch between two methods of signing up. I've decided to try a 'card flip' type effect. Have a look at this JSfiddle in any browser that supports CSS 3D transforms - click the 'old fashioned way' text to 'flip' the modal (simplified for demo purposes): http://jsfiddle.net/voodoo6/cnTMz/8/ Then take a look in IE8/9 - as the 'back' is taller than the front and IE does;t support 'backface-visibility: hidden;' the reverse can be seen below the front. I've been trying to use JQuery and conditional CSS to 'display:none' the 'back' on load in IE (and older browsers), then add a 'display:block;' class to show it on click, problem is, I'm a JQuery beginner and have been struggling to get it to work! Not even sure if this is the best approach? Can anybody suggest an approach that would get this working in less-capable browsers? Thanks for any advice..

    I have Netbeans installed with Visual Paradigm plugin. I have converted my php code into UML diagrams (modeling - instant reverse). I can see relations (drawn lines) between superclass and subclasses. However, i cannot see relations between objects inside objects (composition/aggregation/association)? The code looks like: class Thread { private $tag = ''; public function __construct($tagObject) { $this->tag = $tagObject; } } I know its possible using Java cause i've read about it. Im using PHP, is this still possible?

  • Recommended lightweight jQuery lightbox plug-in?

    I need a lightbox plugin that is styled similar to FancyBox but will allow me to add text to the same white background as the image. Lightweight because I don't want many features as it's going to be added to an already heavy JS page. Preferably without Ajax features as I'll be handling this myself. Therefore I'm ruling out the use of Thickbox, Fancybox and jQuery UI. Basically I want the plugin to be a currently supported light-box jQuery plug-in that handles all the cross browser styling issues which I can then customise.

  • C++0x implementation guesstimates?

    The C++0x standard is on its way to being complete. Until now, I've dabbled in C++, but avoided learning it thoroughly because it seems like it's missing a lot of modern features that I've been spoiled by in other languages. However, I'd be very interested in C++0x, which addresses a lot of my complaints. Any guesstimates, after the standard is ratified, as to how long it will take for major compiler vendors to provide reasonably complete, production-quality implementations? Will it happen soon enough to reverse the decline in C++'s popularity, or is it too little, too late? Do you believe that C++0x will become "the C++" within a few years, or do you believe that most people will stick to the earlier standard in practice and C++0x will be somewhat of a bastard stepchild, kind of like C99?

  • Creating a multiplatform webapp with HTML5 and Google maps

    I'm struggling how to develop a webapp for Android and iOS. My first app was a simple todo app which was easy to test in my browser and it only used html, javascript and css. However, I have to create an app which uses Google Maps Api to get the location. I created a simple html5 page to test which places a marker on a map. It works fine when testing it on my local server. But when I create an .apk file for Android, the app doesn't work. So I'm wondering, isn't it possible to use it like this? Do I have the use the phonegap libraries to use their geolocation library? And if so, how do you handle the development of a webapp in phonegap for multiple OS? Do you have to install an Android environment and an iOS environment to each include the right phonegap library and to test them properly? Update: I use the following code on my webserver and it works perfectly. I have a view that's interacting with my database to delete objects, and it takes two arguments in addition to a request: def delete_data_item(request, dataclass_id, dataitem_id): form = AddDataItemForm(request.POST) data_set = get_object_or_404(DataClass, pk=dataclass_id) context = {'data_set': data_set, 'form': form} data_item = get_object_or_404(DataItem, pk=dataitem_id) data_item.delete() data_set.save() return HttpResponseRedirect(reverse('detail', args=(dataclass_id,))) The URL in myapp.urls.py looks something like this: url(r'^(?P<dataclass_id>[0-9]+)/(?P<dataitem_id>[0-9]+)/delete_data_item/$', views.delete_data_item, name='delete_data_item') and the portion of my template relevant to the view is: <a href="{% url 'delete_data_item' data_set.id data_item.id %}">DELETE</a> Whenever I click on the DELETE link, django tells me that the request URL: http://127.0.0.1:8000/myapp/5/%7B%%20url%20'delete_data_item'%20data_set.id%20data_item.id%20%%7D doesn't match any of my URL patterns. What am I missing? The URL on which the DELETE links exist is myapp/(<dataclass_id>[0-9]+)/
