  • What can cause a persistent "Reload the page to get source for" error in firebug?

    I'm trying to debug the javascript of a specific page, and I keep seeing Reload the page to get source for page.htm in Firebug. On Chrome, I'm mostly able to debug the js, but sometimes I also get a blank page. What can cause such issues? I believe I always see a blank page in Chrome if I reload while the JS console is open. If I open a new Chrome tab, load the page, and then open the JS console, everything is ok. The page I'm debugging is on a localhost server (Play Framework server), although I have seen this on other pages occasionally. This only happens with inline javascript ... js that is linked from the page is displayed fine.

  • get data from asp page

    I am wondering if there is anyway to grab the html that is generated from an ASP page. I am trying to pull a table from the page, and I foolishly used a static html page so I would not have to be constantly querying the server where this page resides while I tested out my code. The javascript code I wrote to grab to unlabeled table from the page works. Then when I put it into practice with the real page and found that the ASP page does not generate a viewable page with a jquery .get request on the URL. Is there any way to query the page for the table I need so that the ASP page returns a valid page on request? (I am also limited to using javascript and perl for this, the server where this will reside will not run php and I have no desire to learn ASP.NET to solve this by adding to the issue of proprietary software)

  • Why is Window.open()'s return type void ?

    Doing something like this is perfectly permissible in javascript: var newWindow = window.open(...) However, this does not work in the senario of GWT (I am using 1.5 I dont know about later versions), Window window = Window.open("", "", ""); Throws me a compile time error that the open is a method with a return type as void. Why should it be void ? What if i want to close my popup from the main Window ? how do I get its handle ? I will have to resort to native javascript no doubt but i was just curious so as to why this is so...

There is a vote as here that also includes reasons Whether or not to use tables for non tabular data.   • How can I prevent application domain stealing?

    I'm in the process of making a javascript application and I want to bring that online, lets call it mydesign. I'm living in the Netherlands so mydesign.nl can be mine. Now is mydesign.com available for sale by some domain broker sales bastards. And those bastards don't accept a first bid lower than 1000$ which is a about ten times of the budget I'm willing to pay. So far so good, it's a sick business model but it's there. Now lets imagine that mydesign.nl is a huge success in the Netherlands and I'm makin tons of profits out of advertisements and other things I'm not yet aware of (I know entering the lotery gives a better chance of earning money, but lets just imagine). Is there a way (licence, legal or otherwise) to prevent the sick owners of mydesign.com to download and steal my javascript app and deploy it on their own site and take the profits of my app?

    I know that in jQuery you can use something like $(".cssClass") to get all elements with this class. However in plain html and javascript how do you group elements logically?   • JSObject-like stuff in ActionScript 3?

    I would like to ask if there is a liveconnect equivalent for ActionScript 3. I understand that there is the ExternalInterface class inside AS3 but it only supports calling a method by name. The really cool thing about Java and LiveConnect is that you can do something like function jsFunc(name) = { this.name = name; this.talk = function(){ alert('hello world my name is ' + this.name); } } javaapplet.function(new jsFunc("bob")); The above approaches pseudo code since I never tested it but I've seen it in action. In AS3, while I am able to pass in an instance of JavaScript "object" into AS, it is often converted into an ActionScript Object instance which does away with all the functions as far as I'm aware. I saw an implementation of JSInterface but I don't think it does specifically that. Is there any way to make OO like javascript work with ActionScript 3?

    What is the lifetime of a variable in javascript, declared with "var". I am sure, it is definitely not according to expectation. <script> function(){ var a; var fun=function(){ // a is accessed and modified } }(); </script> Here how and when does javascript garbage collect the variable a? Since 'a' is a part of the closure of the inner function, it ideally should never get garbage collected, since the inner function 'fun', may be passed as a reference to an external context.So 'fun' should still be able to access 'a', from the external context. If my understanding is correct, how does garbage collection happen then, and how does it ensure to have enough memory space, since keeping all variables in memory until the execution of the program might not be tenable ?

  • Sending JSON(jQuery) to PHP and decoding it

    I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong. It seems like it should be simple because I can't find anyone else with this issue but I can't figure out to send basic data via javascript(jQuery) to PHP and decode it. For the sake of simplicity, this is what I have: JAVASCRIPT var json_data = { "name" : "john doe" }; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../bin/process.php", dataType: "json", data: json_data }); and my PHP FILE $arr = json_decode("json_data", true); $fp = fopen('data.txt', "w"); fwrite($fp, $arr['name']); fclose($fp); The file I'm writing ends up with nothing in it. If I do an: fwrite($fp, 'test'); I get a file with the word test in it but no matter what I do I don't get the json data I sent. Can someone please share a thorough example of A to Z.     Very simple question. I have a boolean field called "saved" in my database. I want to toggle this field by clicking on a text link that changes from "Save" to "Unsave" depending on the situation, and updates my "Customer" table with 0 or 1. I imagine Javascript may be a way to go for this but I am not experienced enough (yet!) in Javascript to know how to code it. What is the best way to approach this problem, and how can I find the code I would need to drop into my view to make this toggle work? Thank you very much.

  • Changing content using innerHTML with a non-standard element in Internet Explorer

    I have the non-standard element <testele></testele> In every browser except IE, this bit of JavaScript will successfully change the content of the above element document.getElementsByTagName("testele")[0].innerHTML = 'hi'; However, if I change the <testele> to just a <span> (in the HTML and the JavaScript), it now successfully changes the content of the element in every browser, including IE. Is there any fix? I have searched around and tried a bunch to no avail.

  • Question about Content Delivery Networks CDN

    I've built a javascript code that my clients will be installing on their website and they will be calling a file from my server. I'm wondering if it would be better to host the javascript file on a CDN, instead of on my server? The benefits would be better response time and a much higher chance that it will always be available. However, In the future, if the CDN was acquired or went out of business I would have a number of clients linking to a file that doesn't exist. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

    I am working on creating a RESTful API that supports cross-domain requests, JSON/JSONP support, and the main HTTP method (PUT/GET/POST/DELETE). Now while will be easy to accessing this API through server side code , it would nice to exposed it to javascript. From what I can tell, when doing a JSONP requests with jQuery, it only supports the GET method. Is there a way to do a JSONP request using POST/PUT/DELETE? Ideally I would like a way to do this from within jQuery (through a plugin if the core does not support this), but I will take a plain javascript solution too. Any links to working code or how to code it would be helpful, thanks.

    If we look at the latest jQuery source at http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js we see the following: var jQuery = function( selector, context ) { // The jQuery object is actually just the init constructor 'enhanced' return new jQuery.fn.init( selector, context ); } My understanding of the new keyword in Javascript is essentially JavaScript passes the function an empty object {} and the function sets stuff on it via this.blah. Also from my understanding new differs from .call/.apply etc.. in that the return object also has the prototype set to that of the function. So the return value should have a prototype that the same as jQuery.prototype.init.prototype (or jQuery.fn.init.prototype). However from what I see its prototype is set to jQuery.prototype thus all the commands available to work on the set. Why is this? What am I missing in my understanding?

The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'. Is it possible to return the px width instead of the % width ? NOTE: I don't have access to any html/css , as the page I am working on is generated through a complex framework.   • Stop IE6 overwriting Button text when setting value.

    I've got a button which contains a span I need for styling: <button id="example" name="example" value="Example"><span>Example</span></button> IE6 has a bug that it submits the contents of the button instead of it's value, but I've already worked around that. Now I need to change the value of the button and the text in the span in JavaScript/jQuery: jQuery("#example").val("Changed").children("span").text("Changed"); However IE6 also changes the contents of the button when setting the value per JavaScript/jQuery, so that the span is lost. Does any one know of a way other that identifying IE6 with jQuery.browser that I could use to avoid that?
