  I'm doing programming of a softcore processor, Nios II from Altera, below is the code in one of the tutorial, I manage to get the code working by testing it on the hardware (DE2 board), however, I could not understand the code. #define Switches (volatile char *) 0x0003000 #define LEDs (char *) 0x0003010 void main() { while (1) *LEDs = *Switches; } What I know about #define is that, it is either used to define a constant, or a macro, but why in the above code, there are casting like, (char *) 0x0003010, in #define? why the 2 constants, Switches and LEDs act like a variable instead of a constant? • AS3: Removing EventListeners without knowing amount or names

  Hello! First shortly about how my site works: When a link is clicked it checks if something is already displayed in either the Left or Right side of the screen (the website looks like a book, so I have a left page I want to display information on and a right page). If there is already something showing it hides it and displays the new object, together with this it enables all the buttons within that object (I have separate functions to set up each object). An example of such an EventListener would be: pathTo.Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function():void {showText(side, object)}); What I'm trying to do is to remove all the previous set EventListeners without having to create separate functions for removing the links inside every object as well. Shorter version: How do I remove all EventListeners on all objects inside another object? The only variable I want to store is the object containing everything. There are however not always EventListeners within the objects.

• Arrays in javascript, how can i learn manipulating it?

  I've read alot about the core implementation of arrays in javascript and often i find that experimenting is the best way to learn, Right now i have multiple forms where you can type in different things, i want to be able to pull the value of each one and put it in an array so that i can later on read them in in a dynamically created div.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? There is a way i could get around this and that would be by using just one form, and pulling the text from there seperated by comas (,).. the thing is that i don't have the knowledge to pull the text form the form, search and find the comas, then make a new variable i think is neccessary, and read that in.. i know how to "think" javascript, not how to write it.. how do i learn the easiest/fastest way?

• $(MSBuildStartupDirectory) in Visual Studio points to different places on different machines

  In a large solution, I'm integrating Gendarme into Visual Studio 2008 compilation process. I am using GendarmeMsBuild task along with a .targets file to add a AfterBuild target to every project in the solution. I am looking for a way to import this file into .csproj files in a way that wouldn't require me to change the include path (the projects have different nesting levels). Apart from using NuGet SolutionDir variable, best way to solve this seemed to be to use $(MSBuildStartupDirectory). However, as it turns out, on some machines, using the same version of VS 2008 (as same updates installed, as far as I was able to check) this resolves to the solution directory, and on others to c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE. How can I either get this to always resolve to the solution folder or obtain the base folder in another consistent way?

• Can I turn off implicit Python unicode conversions to find my mixed-strings bugs?

  When profiling our code I was surprised to find millions of calls to C:\Python26\lib\encodings\utf_8.py:15(decode) I started debugging and found that across our code base there are many small bugs, usually comparing a string to a unicode or adding a sting and a unicode. Python graciously decodes the strings and performs the following operations in unicode. How kind. But expensive! I am fluent in unicode, having read Joel Spolsky and Dive Into Python... I try to keep our code internals in unicode only. My question - can I turn off this pythonic nice-guy behavior? At least until I find all these bugs and fix them (usually by adding a u'u')? Some of them are extremely hard to find (a variable that is sometimes a string...). Python 2.6.5 (and I can't switch to 3.x).

• How do set default values in django for an HttpRequest.GET?

  I have a webpage that displays data based on a default date. The user can then change their view of the data by slecting a date with a date picker and clicking a submit button. I already have a variable set so that if no date is chosen, a default date is used.... so what's the problem? The problem comes if the user trys to type in the url page without a parameter... like so: http://mywebpage/viewdata (example A) instead of http://mywebpage/viewdata?date= (example B) I tried using: if request.method == 'GET': but apparently, even example A still returns true. I'm sure I'm doing some obvious beginner's mistake but I'll ask anyway... Is there a simpler way to handle example A other than passing the url to a string and checking the string for "?date="?

  The spec for the jQuery ajax.error function is: error(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown)Function I'm trying to catch the error and display the textStatus, but I can't figure out how to specify only the textStatus without having to put in a variable name for XMLHttpRequest and errorThrown. My code currently looks like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", url: hbAddressValidation.webServiceUrl, data: this.jsonRequest, dataType: "json", timeout: 5, success: function (msgd) { //... }, error: function (a,textStatus,b) { $("#txtAjaxError").val("There was an error in the AJAX call: " + textStatus); } }); You can see in my code that I'm putting variables a and b as placeholders for the first and last variables in the error function. I know that in my success function, I'm only providing one parameter and it works fine, but in that case data is the first parameter. In the case of error, textStatus is the second parameter, but that's the only one I want to specify. Is this possible?

I have been pulling my hair out with this one. Please help.

  I'm toying with the new autocomplete in jQuery 1.8-UI. I've provided data in the following format ["val1", "val2", "val3"] This is coming from a stored procedure but output as a string. Two things: How would i be able to walk through a main folder and a multitude of subfolders and automatically add them to ParseFiles so i dont have to manually add each file individually?   Hey everyone, My database contains information extracted from an external feed. In this raw text feed, the following text is used in place of special characters: & - &amp; ' - &39; é - &eacute; I extract some of this text to form URLs. For example, a URL that I construct from data containing these characters might look like this: http://url.com/search/?brand=Franklin&Hédgson's I use the GET variables in this URL to construct further lookups, which leads to a couple of specific problems: The é and ' characters are sent back to MySQL as they appear, and so they don't trigger any results (because the characters take the full HTML form in the database text). The & within the URL separates the variable, and the GET returns only Franklin, when it should return the whole string. Are there any straightforward ways of dealing with this? Thanks.

  I have some legacy python scripts that manage my shell environment for all the programs and plugins I am running on Linux (bash) and windows (cmd.exe). I want to port this to powershell. How do I set environment variables in powershell by calling python script that prints $env:myVar=myvalue and causes my environment variable to persist in the powershell. In Bash I can use a bash function to call my python script which prints export var=value to stdout and the function will set the environment variables in my shell. This will also work in windows cmd shell by calling a .bat file. I cannot figure out how to do this in powershell. • Serving CSS from a static domain

  I want to serve my css and images from a static cookieless domain. Now my problem is how to point to the images from within my css files. I don't want to program my domain hard within the css file, for example: http://static.com/image.png I would rather have a variable pointing to the the image, so it works for every static domain i use. What is the best way for achieving this. Should i run the whole css file trough php and add the static domain in front of all the png references. A downside in this is that i have to place the whole css in html. Or is there another more optimized way of doing this.

  Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask, can compiler(e.g. Visual C++) generate a report(.txt) telling struct member offset for a struct/all structs? If so, it helps debugging quite a lot. For example, when you read disassembler code in the debugger, it can be easier to associate an offset value to a struct member. Also, it is better to have compiler report offset of each local variable on a function stack frame(e.g. the offset relative to ebp on an X86 machine). Thank you in advance.
