  • How to display a JSON error message?

    - by Tiny Giant Studios
    I'm currently developing a tumblr theme and have built a jQuery JSON thingamabob that uses the Tumblr API to do the following: The user would click on the "post type" link (e.g. Video Posts), at which stage jQuery would use JSON to grab all the posts that's related to that type and then dynamically display them in a designated area. Now everything works absolutely peachy, except that with Tumblr being Tumblr and their servers taking a knock every now and then, the Tumblr API thingy is sometimes offline. Now I can't foresee when this function will be down, which is why I want to display some generic error message if JSON (for whatever reason) was unable to load the post. You'll see I've already written some code to show an error message when jQuery can't find any posts related to that post type BUT it doesn't cover any server errors. Note: I sometimes get this error: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 503 (Service Temporarily Unavailable) It is for this 503 Error message that I need to write some code, but I'm slightly clueless :) Here's the jQuery JSON code: $('ul.right li').find('a').click(function() { var postType = this.className; var count = 0; byCategory(postType); return false; function byCategory(postType, callback) { $.getJSON('{URL}/api/read/json?type=' + postType + '&callback=?', function(data) { var article = []; $.each(data.posts, function(i, item) { // i = index // item = data for a particular post switch(item.type) { case 'photo': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="photo" style="padding-bottom:5px;">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/XSTldh6ds/photo_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a>' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}"><img src="' + item['photo-url-500'] + '"alt="image" /></a></div></div>'; count = 1; break; case 'video': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="video" style="padding-bottom:5px;">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon">' + '<img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/nuSldhclv/video_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a>' + '<span style="margin: auto;">' + item['video-player'] + '</span>' + '</div></div>'; count = 1; break; case 'audio': if (use_IE == true) { article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="regular">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/R50ldh5uj/audio_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a>' + '<h3><a href="' + item.url + '">' + item['id3-artist'] +' - ' + item['id3-title'] + '</a></h3>' + '</div></div>'; } else { article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="regular">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/R50ldh5uj/audio_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a>' + '<h3><a href="' + item.url + '">' + item['id3-artist'] +' - ' + item['id3-title'] + '</a></h3><div class="player">' + item['audio-player'] + '</div>' + '</div></div>'; }; count = 1; break; case 'regular': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="regular">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/dwxldhck1/regular_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a><h3><a href="' + item.url + '">' + item['regular-title'] + '</a></h3><div class="description_container">' + item['regular-body'] + '</div></div></div>'; count = 1; break; case 'quote': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="quote">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/loEldhcpr/quote_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a><blockquote><h3><a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}">' + item['quote-text'] + '</a></h3></blockquote><cite>- ' + item['quote-source'] + '</cite></div></div>'; count = 1; break; case 'conversation': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="chat">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/MVuldhcth/conversation_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a><h3><a href="' + item.url + '">' + item['conversation-title'] + '</a></h3></div></div>'; count = 1; break; case 'link': article[i] = '<div class="post_wrap"><div class="link">' + '<a href="' + item.url + '" title="{Title}" class="type_icon"><img src="http://static.tumblr.com/ewjv7ap/EQGldhc30/link_icon.png" alt="type_icon"/></a><h3><a href="' + item['link-url'] + '" target="_blank">' + item['link-text'] + '</a></h3></div></div>'; count = 1; break; default: alert('No Entries Found.'); }; }) // end each if (!(count == 0)) { $('#content_right') .hide('fast') .html('<div class="first_div"><span class="left_corner"></span><span class="right_corner"></span><h2>Displaying ' + postType + ' Posts Only</h2></div>' + article.join('')) .slideDown('fast') } else { $('#content_right') .hide('fast') .html('<div class="first_div"><span class="left_corner"></span><span class="right_corner"></span><h2>Hmmm, currently there are no ' + postType + ' posts to display</h2></div>') .slideDown('fast') } // end getJSON }); // end byCategory } }); If you'd like to see the demo in action, check out Elegantem but do note that everything might work absolutely fine for you (or not), depending on Tumblr's temperament.

  • styleWithCSS for IE

    - by Kristoffer S Hansen
    I'm building a custom RTE that converts user input to a homebrewn markup, now idiot that I am I did this using an iframe with designMode = "On" and got it to work in firefox using styleWithCSS = false so that I could easily convert the <b> (yes... b :( ) into my markup which would then output the proper code instead of me having to read from <span style="... now my problem is, I cant seem to find something that looks or acts like styleWithCSS = false for IE, Chrome or Opera, any suggestions are welcome.

  • What groupware/collaboration system to choose?

    - by Ivan
    I am looking for a good (stable enough, intuitive enough, and the more technologically modern and advanced - the better) free PHP-based online groupware/collaboration system. 100% UTF-8 is a requirement. OOP-style code is an advantage. And collaborative mindmapping would be a cool feature to have. The team is of ~20 people. Any suggestions?

  • IE6 and fieldset background color?

    - by codemonkey613
    Hey, I'm having some difficulty with CSS and IE6 compatibility. URL: http://bit.ly/dlX7cS Problem #1: I put a background image on the fieldset around Canada and United States. In IE6 and IE7, the background bleeds above the border-top of the fieldset. So, I found a fix. It is applied only to IE browsers, and moves the legend up a few pixels, aligning the background correctly. <!-- Fix: IE6/IE7, Legends --> <!--[if lte IE 7]> <style type="text/css"> fieldset { position: relative; } fieldset legend { position: absolute; top: -0.5em; left: 0; } </style> <![endif]--> This fixes IE7. But in IE6, it seems to make my legend for Canada vanish completely. Does anyone have a copy of IE6 they can open my site and tell me if you see Canada label. (I am testing with a multi-IE program, and it keeps crashing. My copy might not be accurate). If it's not there, any suggestions on how to fix it? Also, any suggestion on where I can download working copy of IE6? Problem #2: I have a Google Map embedded using iframe. The width of that iframe is 515px. In Firefox, Chrome, IE7 -- that is the correct alignment. But in IE6, it gets <br/> underneath the Just Energy paragraph beside it. It doesn't fit. I have to change width to 513px for it to fit. Uhm, anyone know where those 2px of difference happen? I removed border, padding, margin from the iframe, but still something is happening. <!-- Google Maps --> <iframe class="gmap" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=100146512697135839835.000481e2a2779e8865863&amp;ll=42,-100&amp;spn=20,80&amp;output=embed" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no"></iframe> <!-- / Google Maps --> Er, big headache. lol

  • Eclipse CSS plugin support css imports

    - by Alex Ivasyuv
    Hi, Is there any CSS plugin for Eclipse, which supports import CSS files to profile, e.g. like Spket IDE makes it for JavaScript files. In result, I want to get the following functionality: In any html/css file, where defined css class/id, I perform clicking on it, and it dispatches me to appropriate css file which responsables for that style, or shows me in left side panel it styles. Does anyone know such plugin for CSS Eclipse? Thanks,

  • WPF - Redrawing a Context Menu when Items change?

    - by Rachel
    I have a ItemsControl in a ScrollViewer, and when the items exceed the width of the ScrollViewer they are put into a ContextMenu and shown as a DropDown instead. My problem is that when the Context Menu is first loaded, it saves the saves the size of the Menu and does not redraw when more commands get added/removed. For example, a panel has 3 commands. 1 is visible and 2 are in the Menu. Viewing the menu shows the 2 commands and draws the control, but then if you resize the panel so 2 are visible and only 1 command is in the menu, it doesn't redraw the menu to eliminate that second menu item. Or even worse, if you shrink the panel so that no commands are shown and all 3 are in the Menu, it will only show the top 2. Here's my code: <Button Click="DropDownMenu_Click" ContextMenuOpening="DropDownMenu_ContextMenuOpening"> <Button.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu ItemsSource="{Binding Path=MenuCommands}" Placement="Bottom"> <ContextMenu.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type MenuItem}"> <Setter Property="Command" Value="{Binding Path=Command}" /> <Setter Property="Visibility" Value="{Binding Path=IsVisible, Converter={StaticResource ReverseBooleanToVisibilityConverter}}"/> </Style> </ContextMenu.Resources> <ContextMenu.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=DisplayName}" /> </DataTemplate> </ContextMenu.ItemTemplate> </ContextMenu> </Button.ContextMenu> </Button> Code Behind: void DropDownMenu_ContextMenuOpening(object sender, ContextMenuEventArgs e) { Button b = sender as Button; b.ContextMenu.IsOpen = false; e.Handled = true; } private void DropDownMenu_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Button b = sender as Button; ContextMenu cMenu = b.ContextMenu; if (cMenu != null) { cMenu.PlacementTarget = b; cMenu.Placement = System.Windows.Controls.Primitives.PlacementMode.Bottom; } } I have tried using InvalidateVisual and passing an empty delegate on Render to try and force a redraw, however neither works. I'm using .Net 4.0.

  • IE8 v8 not changing class for a DOM element despite JS function changing the element attribute

    - by Alfabravo
    I have an on-screen keyboard in order to provide a safer input for passwords. The keyboard itself is placed like this: <div class="teclado_grafico" id="teclado_grafico"> <a class="tecla_teclado" onmousedown="teclaAction( this, 'caja_selector'); return false" style="top: 0px; left: 0px;">Q</a> <a class="tecla_teclado" onmousedown="teclaAction( this, 'caja_selector'); return false" style="top: 0px; left: 28px;">W</a> . . . </div> And it has a "Shift button" which fires a JS function with this (I've already tried all that, indeed): if (obj.innerHTML == "Mayus.") { try { MAYUSCULA_ACTIVADO = !MAYUSCULA_ACTIVADO; var tgrafico = document.getElementById("teclado_grafico"); if(MAYUSCULA_ACTIVADO) { // tgrafico.className = "teclado_grafico mayuscula"; // $("#teclado_grafico").removeClass('minuscula').addClass('mayuscula'); // $("#teclado_grafico").attr('class', 'teclado_grafico mayuscula'); // $("#teclado_grafico").attr('className', 'teclado_grafico mayuscula'); tgrafico.setAttribute('className', "teclado_grafico mayuscula") || tgrafico.setAttribute('class', "teclado_grafico mayuscula"); } else { // tgrafico.className = "teclado_grafico minuscula"; // $("#teclado_grafico").removeClass('mayuscula').addClass('minuscula'); // $("#teclado_grafico").attr('class', 'teclado_grafico minuscula'); // $("#teclado_grafico").attr('className', 'teclado_grafico minuscula'); tgrafico.setAttribute('className', "teclado_grafico minuscula") || tgrafico.setAttribute('class', "teclado_grafico minuscula"); } } catch (_E) { //void } return; } The associated CSS is like this: .mayuscula a.tecla_teclado{ text-transform: uppercase; } .minuscula a.tecla_teclado{ text-transform: lowercase; } It works on every single browser I've tried. IE 6, 7; Opera 10; GChrome; FF 3, 3.5 and 3.6; Safari 4,... but in IE8 v8 (strict mode) the class is not changed! I mean, debuggin' with the IE8 tools allows one to see that the attribute className is there and it changes... but the user does not see the letters changing from uppercase to lowercase, to uppercase again. I just don't know how to handle this... I had complains about the client using IE6... now they updated their stuff and this shows up. Any help will be reaaaaly helpful!

  • Mark text in HTML

    - by Alon
    Hi I have some plain text and html. I need to create a PHP method that will return the same html, but with <span class="marked"> before any instances of the text and </span> after it. Note, that it should support tags in the html (for example if the text is blabla so it should mark when it's bla<b>bla</b> or <a href="http://abc.com">bla</a>bla. It should be incase sensitive and support long text (with multilines etc) either. For example, if I call this function with the text "my name is josh" and the following html: <html> <head> <title>My Name Is Josh!!!</title> </head> <body> <h1>my name is <b>josh</b></h1> <div> <a href="http://www.names.com">my name</a> is josh </div> <u>my</u> <i>name</i> <b>is</b> <span style="font-family: Tahoma;">Josh</span>. </body> </html> ... it should return: <html> <head> <title><span class="marked">My Name Is Josh</span>!!!</title> </head> <body> <h1><span class="marked">my name is <b>josh</b></span></h1> <div> <span class="marked"><a href="http://www.names.com">my name</a> is josh</span> </div> <span class="marked"><u>my</u> <i>name</i> <b>is</b> <span style="font-family: Tahoma;">Josh</span></span>. </body> </html> Thanks.

  • Utility method - Pass a File or String?

    - by James P.
    Here's an example of a utility method: public static Long getFileSize(String fileString) { File file = new File(fileString); if (file == null || !file.isFile()) return null; return file.length(); } Is it a good practise to pass a String rather than a File to a method like this? In general what reasoning should be applied when making utility methods of this style?

  • ASP.NET MVC Routing Via Method Attributes

    - by TorgoGuy
    In the StackOverflow Podcast #54, Jeff mentions they register their URL routes in the StackOverflow codebase via an attribute above the method that handles the route. Sounds like a good concept (with the caveat that Phil Haack brought up regarding route priorities). Could someone provide some sample to to make this happen? Also, any "best practices" for using this style of routing?

  • Convert Doxygen to XML comments

    - by jmster
    We have a C# project which for historical reasons uses both Doxygen and Visual Studio style comments in the same code. Has anyone tried to systematically translate one standard to another, preferably to the common XML subset? I guess it would not be too difficult to write a script to cover the most common features, but I would not like to reinvent the wheel.

  • Dreamweaver Delete Space to Word, Not Word

    - by Don
    There's a built in DW keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Del) that deletes up to AND INCLUDING the first word to the right. I used to use the ColdFusion Studio app for coding and it would just remove the space UP TO the word (left the word or bracket, or whatever alone.) Any DW users know if this is a setting that can be changed? I'm really used to the old behavior and keep deleting the first word, hitting Ctrl + Z to put it back and then having to manually delete all the spaces to leave the word... Hoping one of you geniuses can help! Thanks, D.

  • How to get rid of annoying HorizontalContentAlignment binding warning?

    - by marco.ragogna
    I am working on a large WPF project and during debug my output window is filled with these annoying warnings: System.Windows.Data Information: 10 : Cannot retrieve value using the binding and no valid fallback value exists; using default instead. BindingExpression:Path=HorizontalContentAlignment; DataItem=null; target element is 'ComboBoxItem' (Name=''); target property is 'HorizontalContentAlignment' (type ' HorizontalAlignment') In the specific example ComboBoxItem is styled in this way: <Style x:Key="{x:Type ComboBoxItem}" TargetType="{x:Type ComboBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="OverridesDefaultStyle" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ComboBoxItem}"> <Border Name="bd" Padding="4,4,4,4" SnapsToDevicePixels="True" CornerRadius="2,2,2,2"> <ContentPresenter /> </Border> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsHighlighted" Value="true"> <Setter TargetName="bd" Property="Background" Value="{StaticResource MediumBrush}"/> <Setter TargetName="bd" Property="Padding" Value="4,4,4,4"/> <Setter TargetName="bd" Property="CornerRadius" Value="2,2,2,2"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> I know that the problem is generated by the default theme definition for ComboBoxItem that contains things like: <Setter Property="Control.HorizontalContentAlignment"> <Setter.Value> <Binding Path="HorizontalContentAlignment" RelativeSource="{RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor, AncestorType=ItemsControl, AncestorLevel=1}" /> </Setter.Value> </Setter> but I also thought that using <Setter Property="OverridesDefaultStyle" Value="True"/> would taken care of the problem, and instead warnings are still there. Any help is really appreciated

  • BounceEase and silverlight 4 BarSeries

  • JavaScript/Dojo Module Pattern - how to debug?

    - by djna
    I'm working with Dojo and using the "Module Pattern" as described in Mastering Dojo. So far as I can see this pattern is a general, and widely used, JavaScript pattern. My question is: How do we debug our modules? So far I've not been able to persuade Firebug to show me the source of my module. Firebug seems to show only the dojo eval statement used to execute the factory method. Hence I'm not able to step through my module source. I've tried putting "debugger" statements in my module code, and Firebug seems to halt correctly, but does not show the source. Contrived example code below. This is just an example of sufficient complexity to make the need for debugging plausible, it's not intended to be useful code. The page <!-- Experiments with Debugging --> <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>console me</title> <style type="text/css"> @import "../dojoroot/dojo/resources/dojo.css"; @import "../dojoroot/dijit/themes/tundra/tundra.css"; @import "edf.css"; </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="../dojoroot/dojo/dojo.js"> </script> <script type="text/javascript" > dojo.registerModulePath("mytest", "../../mytest"); dojo.require("mytest.example"); dojo.addOnLoad(function(){ mytest.example.greet(); }); </script> </head> <body class="tundra"> <div id="bulletin"> <p>Just Testing</p> </div> </body> </html> <!-- END: snip1 --> The java script I'd like to debug dojo.provide("mytest.example"); dojo.require("dijit.layout.ContentPane"); /** * define module */ (function(){ //define the main program functions... var example= mytest.example; example.greet= function(args) { var bulletin = dojo.byId("bulletin"); console.log("bulletin:" + bulletin); if ( bulletin) { var content = new dijit.layout.ContentPane({ id: "dummy", region: "center" }); content.setContent('Greetings!'); dojo._destroyElement(bulletin); dojo.place(content.domNode, dojo.body(), "first"); console.log("greeting done"); } else { console.error("no bulletin board"); } } })();

  • jquery - establishing truths when loading inline javascript via AJAX

    - by yaya3
    I have thrown together a quick prototype to try and establish a few very basic truths regarding what inline JavaScript can do when it is loaded with AJAX: index.html <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> $('p').css('color','white'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FIRST but is "undefined" $(document).ready(function(){ $('#ajax-loaded-content-wrapper').load('loaded-by-ajax.html', function(){ $('p').css('color','grey'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS LAST (as expected) }); $('p').css('color','purple'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS SECOND }); </script> <p>Content not loaded by ajax</p> <div id="ajax-loaded-content-wrapper"> </div> </body> </html> loaded-by-ajax.html <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> <script type="text/javascript"> $('p').css('color','yellow'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS THIRD $(document).ready(function(){ $('p').css('color','pink'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FOURTH }); </script> <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('p').css('color','blue'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FIFTH }); $('p').css('color','green'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS SIX </script> <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> Notes: a) All of the above (except the first) successfully change the colour of all the paragraphs (in firefox 3.6.3). b) I've used alert instead of console.log as console is undefined when called in the 'loaded' HTML. Truths(?): $(document).ready() does not treat the 'loaded' HTML as a new document, or reread the entire DOM tree including the loaded HTML JavaScript that is contained inside 'loaded' HTML can effect the style of existing DOM nodes One can successfully use the jQuery library inside 'loaded' HTML to effect the style of existing DOM nodes One can not use the firebug inside 'loaded' HTML can effect the existing DOM (proven by Note a) Am I correct in deriving these 'truths' from my tests (test validity)? If not, how would you test for these?

  • Load website and fill form from the command line

    - by Martin Scharrer
    Using the Linux command line (Bash shell) I like to load a specific website in my browser (normally Firefox, but other one would be ok as well as long it runs under Linux) and fill a pre-defined form with some data. Actually, this should run from a Makefile. Most of the form data is static and will be stored as variables in the Makefile, just some fields are to be filled manually before manually sending the form. I know how to load the website in question from the command line using: firefox <URL> But there seems no possibility to fill the form automatically with variables given on the command line. Is there a plugin, executable or JavaScript which allows me to do this? Any suggestions and hints are welcome. I don't mind coding some JavaScript.

I tried to find the documents at http://www.w3.org/TR/tr-status-stds and they appear to be: 1) "XHTML™ 1.0 The Extensible HyperText Markup Language (Second Edition)" 2) "Cascading Style Sheets (CSS1) Level 1 Specification" Please correct me if I'm wrong. These are kinda neanderthal technologies...

  • Socket 1155 vs 2011 vs Haswell

    - by woody
    The title says it all. I am trying to decide between sockets and just cant pinpoint which to get based on pros and cons. The build this will go into will be my primary PC. It will be used for every day computing, coding, some multimedia and gaming. I have read that 1155 and 2011 will be dead within the new year and that Haswell will double the performance of Ivy Bridge. What is a general run down on the different sockets? Pros and Cons? More specifically what are the technical differences between the three?

  • How to set the title of UIToolBar?

    - by Kelvin
    How can I set the title of UIToolBar such that it looks the same as the title in UINavigationBar? I tried to use a button with plain style, it looks ok, but it will be highlighted when I click on it... Is there any better way to set the title in the detail view of split view?
