  • Updating Mcafee Group Shield on Exchange Server

    So I don't actually have a problem yet, but I might. You see my fathers company have 10 computers and an exchange server with Mcafee Group Shield. lately they've had issues with mails from customers being blocked. I found both the problem and the solution: Mcafee update so basicly update their Mcafee group shield to the newest service pack and we are all back in buisness.. while I have some limited exchange experience and AD too. I don't have any Mcafee experience. I don't wanna crash their server for a week and have them need to get someone to recover it. So my question in here.. is it supposedly as easy as to click an 'update' button and to reboot your server.. or are there several issues I need to be aware about..? Maybe there is some common issue that goes with updating antivirus on an exchange server that I don't know about..

  • Exchange server listening on port 25 but clients dont recieve emails

    My exchange server is listening on port 25, that is I can telnet into it and send an email but Outlook 2010/2007, OWA, and ActiveSync are not pulling down emails. Outlook 2010 specifically says Connected To Exchange Server and Updating Inbox but it never updates the inbox. Also, OWA shows some of the newer mail messages, but when I double click on one to open it up in OWA, it times out. Any idea what could be causing this? Also Exchange Transport and Information Store are started. Thanks!

Notepad++ has various add-ons available for it. - When you download it, be sure to run its internal update function. Needless to say, all three are better than Notepad!

However, I face another problem while installing it: The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2738.This issue is happened only in Vista, and the details and solution had been posted on TechNet: C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32 vbscript.dll I can download the SharePoint CP and continue my work now. :)

  • Upgrading Code from 2007 to 2010

    So I’ve been doing some upgrades just to see if things will work from 2007 to 2010.  So far most of the stuff I want works, but obviously there are some things that break.  Did you guys know that in 2007 you could add a webpart to the view pages for lists and libraries without losing the toolbar?  In 2010 the ribbon disappears every time you add a webpart.  So if you are using Scot Hillier’s Codeplex project to hide buttons it will not work the same way, because the ribbon is going to disappear altogether. I have also learned another reason why standalone installations are the bane of my existence.  Nine times out of ten the installation is done using Network Service as the application pool account.  You are wondering why is this bad?  Well, let’s just say the site collection administrator with local admin rights wants to attach the IIS Worker process and debug say a webpart.  Visual Studio 2010 will throw a nasty error that tells you that you are not an administrator.  You will say, but I am an administrator?  I have all the correct group permissions on the server and on SQL and in SharePoint.  Then you will go in and decide let’s add my own admin account just to see if I can attach the debugger and you will notice that works properly.  So the morale of the story is create a separate account on your development environment to run all the SharePoint Services and such.  You don’t need to go all out and create the best practices amount of accounts if it’s just your dev environment.  I would at least create one single account to run all your SharePoint process (Services, SQL, and App Pool).  Also, don’t run a standalone install unless you want to kill kittens (this is a quote from Todd Klindt).  We love kittens they are cute and awesome.  Besides you learn more if you click Complete and just skip standalone.  You will learn how to setup SQL Server 2008 and you will learn how to configure your environment.  It will help you in the long run.  So I have ranted enough for today I figure these are enough tidbits for you this time around.  The two of you who read my blog and I know some of you are friends who don’t understand SharePoint.  I might as well have just done “wahwahwahwah” in Charlie Brown adult speak.  Thanks for reading as usual.  I’ll catch you all when I complain more about the upgrade process and share more tidbits, which will inevitably become a presentation at a conference or two.   • Exchange Server 2010: move mailboxes from recoveded and mounted edb to user's mailbox

    One of our exchange servers crashed, and I am trying to recover the mailboxes. We had 1 exchange 2003 server named "apex" and 1 exchange 2010 server named "2008Enterprise. the exchange 2010 server named "2008Enterprise" crashed. I created a new exchange 2010 server named "Providence". I ran the command on Providence: New-MailboxDatabase -Recovery -Name JBCMail -Server Providence -EdbFilePath "c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147\Mailbox Database 0579285147.edb" -LogFolderPath "c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147" this command executed and finished without error I then ran the command: eseutil /p E00 this command was executed from the below directory: c:\data\Exchange\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0579285147 I then mounted the JBCMail with the mount command note: I do not have my full typed command. Inside my Exchange Management Console (EMC) I can view the new mailbox database named JBCMail. The JBCMail database is show as mounted on the exchange server named Providence. I can see the crashed Exchange server named 2008Exchange. In the EMC the crashed exchange server states the Copy Status under ServerConfiguration-Mailbox is ServiceDown. From here I need to recover three mailboxes The mail boxes are on the apex server. How do I move the mailboxs from apex to Providence? How do I restore the mailboxes from JBCmail mounted database to the user's mailbox? I do not fully understand how to use the Restore-Mailbox command because when I use this command it tries to restore the mailbox to the dead apex server.   • Forefront 2010 Antispam vs Exchange 2010 Antispam?

    They look pretty similar, do they work together or independently? For example you have content filtering in Forefront where you can specify SCL barriers, just like in Exchange. However theres no where to specify the Spam mailbox. So will the spam mailbox still be used if I configure this in Forefront?

  • Using NTBackup to Backup Exchange 2003 Mail Stores

    I have netbackup backing up my Exchange stores stores to tape, but would like to maybe make the restore process faster. I have plenty of room on the array attached to the mail server, so I was thinking I could use NTBackup to do weekly backups in addition to my tape backups. Has anyone used this with good success?

    We are looking to get our Cisco Unity Connection 7 to store messages using Exchange Server 2010 Unified Messaging. Is anyone aware of any whitepaper/document/tutorial or other that they'd recommend we look into? We can't seem to find much. From what I here from our Cisco partner is that the connection works, but will be better in the next release. Thanks in advance.

    I can't connect to the instance of exchange server 2010 through EMC on the local machine running w2k8 r2. I've checked all the default website bindings, the kerberos auth and WSMan are set to native type in powershell and I still get this error message. Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message: The WS-Management service does not support the request. It was running the command 'Discover-ExchangeServer -UseWIA $true -suppresserror $true'

  • Exchange 2010 SP1 won't allow messages to be deleted in OWA

    Before upgrading to Service Pack 1 of Exchange 2010, OWA worked fine. We were able to do everything with no issues. After the upgrade, we can no longer delete messages within OWA unless we open up the message and delete it using the delete button inside of the message window. The error we get is this: We've searched online and only found several posts pointing us to rename or delete the web.config file in the inetpub directory. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • Exchange 2010 Discovery Search Fails

    When ever I run an Exchange 2010 SP1 Discovery Search I get the following error: "Search failed as the results link to the target mailbox '[email protected]' couldn't be generated." I have checked to ensure the discovery mailbox is enabled I created a new Discovery mailbox. I get the same error with both Mailboxes. The user account I am using to run the search is a member of the "Discovery Management" security group. I get the same error whether I use the Shell or the ECP to run the search
