• Writing to a file in a servlet

• Matlab GUI: How to Save the Results of Functions (states of application)

  Hi, I would like to create an animation which enables the user to go backward and forward through the steps of simulation. An animation has to simulate the iterative process of channel decoding (a receiver receives a block of bits, performs an operation and then checks if the block corresponds to parity rules. If the block doesn't correspond the operation is performed again and the process finally ends when the code corresponds to a given rules). I have written the functions which perform the decoding process and return a m x n x i matrix where m x n is the block of data and i is the iteration index. So if it takes 3 iterations to decode the data the function returns a m x n x 3 matrix with each step is stired. In the GUI (.fig file) I put a "decode" button which runs the method for decoding and there are buttons "back" and "forward" which have to enable the user to switch between the data of recorded steps. I have stored the "decodedData" matrix and currentStep value as a global variable so by clicking "forward" and "next" buttons the indices have to change and point to appropriate step states. When I tried to debug the application the method returned the decoded data but when I tried to click "back" and "next" the decoded data appeared not to be declared. Does anyone know how is it possible to access (or store) the results of the functions in order to enable the described logic which I want to implement in Matlab GUI?

If CSS class is assigning CSS to element can't we read its value in JS ? Does this mean that if we are not assigning property directly to the element we cant get it if in case its inheriting it ?

• DrawRect on the iPhone vs. the Mac

  I am an experienced iPhone dev beginning to work on my first Mac app. One thing that is really throwing me off is the differences between UIView and NSView. It seems that I cannot set the background color of a NSView via interface builder as I can with a UIView. It also seems that I cannot do it by simply sending a setBackgroundColor: message to it. All the examples I have seen are overriding drawRect: in a subclass of NSView. Is that really the only way to do it? What is the conceptual difference here, and why is it this way? NOTE: I am only trying to set the background color to the default grey.

• What would be a better implementation of shared variable among subclass

  So currently I have a spring unit testing application. And it requires me to get a session cookie from a foreign authentication source. Problem what that is, this authentication process is fairly expensive and time consuming, and I am trying to create a structure where I am authenticate once, by any subclass, and any subsequent subclass is created, it will reuse this session cookie without hitting the authentication process again. My problem right now is, the static cookie is null each time another subclass is created. And I been reading that using static as a global variable is a bad idea, but I couldn't think of another way to do this because of Spring framework setting things during run time and how I would set the cookie so that all other classes can use it. Another piece of information. The variable is being use, but is change able during run time. It is not a single user being signed in and used across the board. But more like a Sub1 would call login, and we have a cookie. Then multiple test will be using that login until SubX will come in and say, I am using different credential, so I need to login as something else. And repeats. • Wastage of resources in Virtualization

  I am not sure if this is the write place to ask the question. However i hope it is. When looking for a VPS earlier today, I was trying to understand how each container would work in the background. Keeping in mind the fact that the operating system uses most of the power and power on a system, wouldn't having multiple operating systems in the same machine mean more wastage of resources. For instance if i was running centOS on a dedicated box and it was running lets say 20 background OS level processes. Then i go and install a virtualization platform and install 5 more centOS virtual machines in the same system which are exactly the same as the host operating system. Doesn't this mean duplication of those 20 processes 6 times? So internally the context switching is happening between 120 processes instead of 20?

We've had a lot of success in hiring more people like ourselves - people passionate about technology with experience primarily in the Agile Java/J2EE space. We're looking to hire our first C++ developer to serve as an on-shore resource for maintaining and adding to the C++ portion of our code base. Up until now the entirety of our C++ development has been done out of an off-shore location. We consider our interview process to be fairly thorough: A phone screen centered on Object-Oriented Programming and Java A non-trivial at-home code project using Java An in-person interview covering technical and behavioral competency We look for a demonstration of Agile best practices (expressive code, test-driven development, continuous integration) throughout the entire process, however there is a common conception that Agility is primarily practiced by Java developers. If we retrofit our interview process for C++, should we still expect Agile qualities when interviewing for a C++ role? I'm asking on behalf of a team that has worked with Java too long to know what a good C++ developer looks like. Specifically we're looking to answer the following questions: Can we expect a demonstrated understanding of OO design and Separation of Concerns? In the code project we want the candidate to write unit tests. Would a good C++ developer be surprised by this expectation? Are there any "extra" competencies we can look for? For example with Java developers we always look for a familiarity with Dependency Injection.

• Creating a templated silverlight control that has a story board.

  I'm trying to create a templated silverlight control that has a simple animation (swap a few color properties). An example would be a control that is similar to the 'questions' menu item in stackoverflow. So the consumer of the control can specify the background color and the background color for the mouseover event. I've run into the issue that I can't use template binding for a storyboard animation (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1336689/is-it-possible-to-use-templatebinding-in-a-storyboard-in-silverlight).   Quick Background Since learning basic html 5 years ago, I've become completely obsessed with the technology, the logic, and the thrill of solving problems involved with building websites. I am still stuck at a thoroughly non-programming type job, but would really like to move into the field of web programming/design. I have no educational background in the field (was trained as a fine artist and tutor), but in the past few years have progressed fully self-taught (and self-motivated) from html to css to php, mysql, jquery, and am now building rich web applications. • Navigation Dropdown Text Color doesn't work in FF and IE

  Hello, I was able to get the navigation dropdown to show the letters in a different color from the background (white in this case) in Chrome browser. But when I view the same page in IE or FF, the whole background is just all green. • Parse files in directory/insert in database

  Hey there, Here is my dillema... I have a directory full of .txt comma delimited files arranged as shown below. What I want to do is to import each of these into a SQL or SQLite database, appending each one below the last. (1 table)... I am open to C# or VB scripting and just not sure how to accomplish this. I want to only extract and import the data starting BELOW the 'Feat. Type,Feat. Name, etc' line. These are stored in a \mynetwork\directory\stats folder on my network drive. Ideally I will be able to add functionality that will make the software/script know not to re-add the file to the database once it has already done so as well. • SwingWorker exceptions lost even when using wrapper classes

  I've been struggling with the usability problem of SwingWorker eating any exceptions thrown in the background task, for example, described on this SO thread. That thread gives a nice description of the problem, but doesn't discuss recovering the original exception. The applet I've been handed needs to propagate the exception upwards. But I haven't been able to even catch it. I'm using the SimpleSwingWorker wrapper class from this blog entry specifically to try and address this issue. It's a fairly small class but I'll repost it at the end here just for reference. • margin-bottom property of a div's last element doesn't "extend" the div

  I have an element in a div, which has a background image. Below the div I have another div with another background image. Now the problem is that if the last element contained in the first div has margin-bottom applied there will be a gap between the 2 divs like this: Notice the gray gap caused by the margin-bottom property of the h2 element contained within the first div. I know this can be solved if I switch margin-bottom to padding-bottom but what if I need margin-bottom? How to fix this?

• Best way to track the stages of a form across different controllers - $_GET or routing

  Hi, I am in a bit of a dilemma about how best to handle the following situation. I have a long registration process on a site, where there are around 10 form sections to fill in. Some of these forms relate specifically to the user and their own personal data, while most of them relate to the user's pets - my current set up handles user specific forms in a User_Controller (e.g via methods like user/profile, user/household etc), and similarly the pet related forms are handled in a Pet_Controller (e.g pet/health). Whether or not all of these methods should be combined into a single Registration_Controller, I'm not sure - I'm open to any advice on that. Anyway, my main issue is that I want to generate a progress bar which shows how far along in the registration process each user is. As the urls in each form section can potentially be mapping to different controllers, I'm trying to find a clean way to extract which stage a person is at in the overall process. I could just use the query string to pass a stage parameter with each request, e.g user/profile?stage=1. Another way to do it potentially is to use routing - e.g the urls for each section of the form could be set up to be registration/stage/1, registration/stage/2 - then i could just map these urls to the appropriate controller/method behind the scenes. If this makes any sense at all, does anyone have any advice for me?

  Hi, I am creating a custom StyleLabel by extending the UIView, which provides a link for particular type of strings. I have successfully implemented this functionality. I am using this label in TableViewCell along with UILabel.i set UILabel & StyleLabel background color is set to clearColor. UILabel works fine, but StyleLabel shows background in blackColor. I am not sure what is the problem with the following code. • Jquery draggable + toggleClass problem..

• Excel 2008 Cant Parse HTML

  I need to export a gridview to excel, I put the return html code from the gridview to a HtmlTextWriter and put this into the response. The result file work fine in excel, excel can parse the html and the result is readable, work perfect on excel 2003 and 2007, but in some machines with Excel 2008 (MACOS) excel shows only the raw html code and can't process this html code. Any idea to configure excel?
