  • How do I conditionally redirect the output of a command to /dev/null?

    - by Lawrence Johnston
I have a script. I would like to give this script a quiet mode and a verbose mode. This is the equivalent of: if $verbose then redirect="> /dev/null" fi echo "Verbose mode enabled" $redirect # This doesn't work because the redirect isn't evaluated. I'd really like a better way of doing this than writing if-elses for every statement affected. eval could work, but has obvious side effects on other variables.

  • How do you label output variables in an IDL FOR loop for further processing outside the loop in the same program?

    - by user610769
I have a FOR loop like this: FOR k = 1,216 DO atom = G[,0::(215+k)] END What I would like to be able to do is to store in memory the array for each atom, say, atom_k and then call these different variables to perform further operations outside the FOR loop. Conceptually, I want to label the "atom" variable with the "k" counter somewhat like this: FOR k = 1,216 DO atom(k) = G[,0::(215+k)] END Of course, this doesn't work because "k" is no longer a label in this case. Does anyone know?

  • Why are some programs writing on stderr instead of stdout their output?

    - by Zagorax
I've recently added to my .bashrc file an ssh-add command. I found that ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null results on a message "identity added and something else" every time I open a shell. While ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null 2>&1 did the trick and my shell is now 'clean'. Reading on internet, I found that other command do it, (for example time). Could you please explain why it's done?

  • How do I choose what and when to cache data with ob_start rather than query the database?

    - by Tim Santeford
I have a home page that has several independent dynamic parts. The parts consist of a list of recent news from the company, a site statistics panel, and the online status of certain employees. The recent news changes monthly, site statistics change daily, and online statuses change on a per minute bases. I would like to cache these panels so that the db is not hit on every page load. Is using ob_start() then ob_get_contents() to cache these parts to a file the correct way to do this or is there a better method in PHP5 for doing this? In asking this question I'm trying to answer these additional questions: How can I determine the correct approach for caching this data without doing extensive benchmarking? Does it make sense to cache these parts in different files and then join them together per requests or should I re-query the data and cache once per minute? I'm looking for a rule of thumb for planning pages and for situations where doing testing is not cost effective (The client is not paying enough for it I mean). Thanks!

  • Efficient batch SQL query execution on Android, for upgrade database.

    - by Pentium10
    As we Android developers know, the SQLiteDatabase execSQL method can execute only one statement. The doc says: Execute a single SQL statement that is not a query. For example, CREATE TABLE, DELETE, INSERT, etc. Multiple statements separated by ;s are not supported. I have to load in a batch of records, 1000 and counting. How do I insert these efficiently? And what's the easiest way to deliver these SQLs with your apk? I mention, there is already a system database and I will run this on the onUpdate event. I have this code so far: List<String[]> li = new ArrayList<String[]>(); li.add(new String[] { "-1", "Stop", "0" }); li.add(new String[] { "0", "Start", "0" }); /* the rest of the assign */ try { for (String[] elem : li) { getDb().execSQL( "INSERT INTO " + TABLENAME + " (" + _ID + "," + NAME + "," + PARSE_ORDER + ") VALUES (?,?,?)", elem); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }

  • Beginnerquestion: How to count amount of each number drawn in a Lottery and output it in a list?

    - by elementz
I am writing this little Lottery application. Now the plan is, to count how often each number has been drawn during each iteration of the Lottery, and store this somewhere. My guess is that I would need to use a HashMap, that has 6 keys and increments the value by one everytime the respective keys number is drawn. But how would I accomplish this? My code so far: public void numberCreator() { // creating and initializing a Random generator Random rand = new Random(); // A HashMap to store the numbers picked. HashMap hashMap = new HashMap(); // A TreeMap to sort the numbers picked. TreeMap treeMap = new TreeMap(); // creating an ArrayList which will store the pool of availbale Numbers List<Integer>numPool = new ArrayList<Integer>(); for (int i=1; i<50; i++){ // add the available Numbers to the pool numPool.add(i); hashMap.put(nums[i], 0); } // array to store the lotto numbers int [] nums = new int [6]; for (int i =0; i < nums.length; i++){ int numPoolIndex = rand.nextInt(numPool.size()); nums[i] = numPool.get(numPoolIndex); // check how often a number has been called and store the new amount in the Map int counter = hashMap.get numPool.remove(numPoolIndex); } System.out.println(Arrays.toString(nums)); } Maybe someone can tell me if I have the right idea, or even how I would implement the map properly?

  • Saving Email/Password to Keychain in iOS

    - by Jason
    I'm very new to iOS development so forgive me if this is a newbie question. I have a simple authentication mechanism for my app that takes a user's email address and password. I also have a switch that says 'Remember me'. If the user toggles that switch on, I'd like to preserve their email/password so those fields can be auto-populated in the future. I've gotten this to work with saving to a plist file but I know that's not the best idea since the password is unencrypted. I found some sample code for saving to the keychain, but to be honest, I'm a little lost. For the function below, I'm not sure how to call it and how to modify it to save the email address as well. I'm guessing to call it would be: saveString(@"passwordgoeshere"); Thank you for any help!!! + (void)saveString:(NSString *)inputString forKey:(NSString *)account { NSAssert(account != nil, @"Invalid account"); NSAssert(inputString != nil, @"Invalid string"); NSMutableDictionary *query = [NSMutableDictionary dictionary]; [query setObject:(id)kSecClassGenericPassword forKey:(id)kSecClass]; [query setObject:account forKey:(id)kSecAttrAccount]; [query setObject:(id)kSecAttrAccessibleWhenUnlocked forKey:(id)kSecAttrAccessible]; OSStatus error = SecItemCopyMatching((CFDictionaryRef)query, NULL); if (error == errSecSuccess) { // do update NSDictionary *attributesToUpdate = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[inputString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] forKey:(id)kSecValueData]; error = SecItemUpdate((CFDictionaryRef)query, (CFDictionaryRef)attributesToUpdate); NSAssert1(error == errSecSuccess, @"SecItemUpdate failed: %d", error); } else if (error == errSecItemNotFound) { // do add [query setObject:[inputString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] forKey:(id)kSecValueData]; error = SecItemAdd((CFDictionaryRef)query, NULL); NSAssert1(error == errSecSuccess, @"SecItemAdd failed: %d", error); } else { NSAssert1(NO, @"SecItemCopyMatching failed: %d", error); } }

  • Jquery ajax get - how to output data based on condition?

    - by arunas_t
Hello, there, I have a such piece of code: $("#choose").change(function(){ $.get("get_results.php", {name: $("#choose").val()}, function(data){ if(data !== ""){ $("#results").html(data); }else{ $("#results").html('<strong>Sorry, no records.</strong>'); } }); }); Now the problem is that the first condition ( if(data !== "") ) is always evaluated correctly and executed, but the else clause ('Sorry, no records') never shows up. Can anyone spot the error? Data passed for the else clause is specifically "". Thank You.

  • How can I change the color of build output in a shell window?

    - by Tim Gradwell
I have a build process which runs from a batch file. It produces a large volume of text. Sometimes it prints the word "Error" or "Warning" followed by a message. The errors and warnings are getting lost among a sea of text. Can I highlight those words in a different color, maybe in a dos window, or a cygwin shell window, possibly by piping them through some string manipulation program before posting them to the screen? Thanks.

  • How to output list of float text to binary file in Perl ?

    - by YoDar
    Hi, I have text file looks like that: float a[10] = { 7.100000e+000 , 9.100000e+000 , 2.100000e+000 , 1.100000e+000 , 8.200000e+000 , 7.220000e+000 , 7.220000e+000 , 7.222000e+000 , 1.120000e+000 , 1.987600e+000 }; unsigned int col_ind[10] = { 1 , 4 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 1 , 5 }; Now, I want to convert each array (float / unsigned int) to different binary files - big endian type. Binary file for all float values and binary file for all integer values. What is the simple way to do it in Perl, consider I have over 2 millon elements in each array? Thanks, Yodar.

  • Why is it possible to enumerate a LinqToSql query after calling Dispose() on the DataContext?

    - by DanM
I'm using the Repository Pattern with some LinqToSql objects. My repository objects all implement IDisposable, and the Dispose() method does only thing--calls Dispose() on the DataContext. Whenever I use a repository, I wrap it in a using person, like this: public IEnumerable<Person> SelectPersons() { using (var repository = _repositorySource.GetNew<Person>(dc => dc.Person)) { return repository.GetAll(); } } This method returns an IEnumerable<Person>, so if my understanding is correct, no querying of the database actually takes place until Enumerable<Person> is traversed (e.g., by converting it to a list or array or by using it in a foreach loop), as in this example: var persons = gateway.SelectPersons(); // Dispose() is fired here var personViewModels = ( from b in persons select new PersonViewModel { Id = b.Id, Name = b.Name, Age = b.Age, OrdersCount = b.Order.Count() }).ToList(); // executes queries In this example, Dispose() gets called immediately after setting persons, which is an IEnumerable<Person>, and that's the only time it gets called. So, a couple questions: How does this work? How can a disposed DataContext still query the database for results when I walk the IEnumerable<Person>? What does Dispose() actually do? I've heard that it is not necessary (e.g., see this question) to dispose of a DataContext, but my impression was that it's not a bad idea. Is there any reason not to dispose of it?

  • Xpath query to select node when attribute does not exist? [closed]

    - by Antoine
I want to select nodes for which a specific attribute does not exist. I've tried the Not() function, but it doesn't work. Is there a way for this? Example: The following Xpath query: group/msg[not(@owner)] Should retrieve the first node but not the 2nd one. However, both SketchPath (tool to test Xpath queries) and my C# code consider that the 2 nodes are ok. <group> <msg id="EVENTDATA_CCFLOADED_XMLCONTEXT" numericId="14026" translate="False" topicId="302" status="translated" > <text>Context</text> <comment></comment> </msg> <msg id="EVENTDATA_CCFLOADED_XMLCONTEXT_HELP" numericId="14027" translate="False" topicId="302" status="translated" owner="EVENTDATA_CCFLOADED_XMLCONTEXT" > <text>Provides the new data displayed in the Object.</text> <comment></comment> </msg> </group> In fact the Not() function works correctly, it's just that I had other conditions and parentheses weren't set correctly. errare humanum est.

  • Can you embed PHP code in the output of a CGI script?

    - by Joe Corkery
I have a CGI based form that I am working with and I would like to be able to include some PHP code in the generated results. However, when I do this, the PHP does not appear to get processed and just ends up being displayed in the resulting web page. Is what I am doing actually possible or am I missing something? Thanks.

  • Can I get a patch-compatible output from git-diff?

    - by Malvolio
I am doing something very simple wrong. I'm trying to prepare an ordinary patch file, so I can reapply some changes: $ git diff > before $ git diff something_here > save.patch $ git checkout . $ patch < save.patch $ git diff > after $ diff before after $ With something_here blank it almost works, but the file names aren't right. I think I'm just I'm missing some option. In real life, I am going to do a merge after the checkout, so the patch might fail there, but you see what I'm getting at.

  • NHibernate Native SQL multiple joins

    - by Chris
Hi all, I"m having some problems with Nhibernate and native sql. I've got an entity with alot of collections and I am doing an SQL Fulltext search on it. So when returning 100 or so entities, I dont want all collections be lazy loaded. For this I changed my SQL query: SELECT Query.* FROM (SELECT {spr.*}, {adr.*}, {adrt.*}, {cty.*}, {com.*}, {comt.*}, spft.[Rank] AS [Rak], Row_number() OVER(ORDER BY spft.[Rank] DESC) AS rownum FROM customer spr INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE ( customerfulltext , computedfulltextindex , '" + parsedSearchTerm + @"' ) AS spft ON spr.customerid = spft.[Key] LEFT JOIN [Address] adr ON adr.customerid = spr.customerid INNER JOIN [AddressType] adrt ON adrt.addresstypeid = adr.addresstypeid INNER JOIN [City] cty ON cty.cityid = adr.cityid LEFT JOIN [Communication] com ON com.customerid = spr.customerid INNER JOIN [CommunicationType] comt ON comt.communicationtypeid = com.communicationtypeid) as Query ORDER BY Query.[Rank] DESC This is how I setup the query: var items = GetCurrentSession() .CreateSQLQuery(query) .AddEntity("spr", typeof(Customer)) .AddJoin("adr", "spr.addresses") .AddJoin("adrt", "adr.Type") .AddJoin("cty", "adr.City") .AddJoin("com", "spr.communicationItems") .AddJoin("comt", "com.Type") .List<Customer>(); What happens now is, that the query returns customers twice (or more), I assume this is because of the joins since for each customer address, communicationItem (e.g. phone, email), a new sql row is returned. In this case I thought I could use the DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer. var items = GetCurrentSession() .CreateSQLQuery(query) .AddEntity("spr", typeof(Customer)) .AddJoin("adr", "spr.addresses") .AddJoin("adrt", "adr.Type") .AddJoin("cty", "adr.City") .AddJoin("com", "spr.communicationItems") .AddJoin("comt", "com.Type") .SetResultTransformer(new DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer()) .List<Customer>(); Doing so an exception is thrown. This is because I try to list customers .List<Customer>() but the transformer returns only entities of the last join added. E.g. in the case above, the entity with alias "comt" is returned when doing .List() instead of .List(). If I would switch last join with the join alias "cty", then the transformer returns a list of cities only... Anyone knows how I can return a clean list of customers in this case?
