• In what package should a "Settings" class be placed?

  I'm in the middle of building an application but found myself too easily creating new packages without keeping the project's structure in mind. Now, I'm trying to redo the whole project structure on paper first. I am using a Settings class with public properties, accessed as settings for several other classes around the project. Now, since this Settings class applies for the whole project, I am unsure if it should be packaged and if so, in what kind of package should it exist? Or should it be in the root (the default package) with the main application class? I've been thinking about putting it in my utils package, then again I don't think it really is an utlity. Any strategies on how to decide on such package structure for example for a Settings class?

• How to keep the first result of a function from Prolog?

  I need to write a customized function that will be called many times by other fixed functions. In this function, at the first called time, it will return the total number of lines of a file. The second called time of this function, forward, will return the number of lines in small sections of this file. My question is how I keep the first returned result(total number of lines of a file) and use it for the next called times of my function. I need to write or declare any thing only in this function(not in the caller). Something like this: myFunction(Input, MyResult, FirstResult) :- calculateInputFunction(Input, Result), !, MyResult is Result, ... . The problem is, every time myFunction is called, it receives different Input and returns different MyResult. But I would like to keep the first MyResult to use for next called times of myFunction.   Hello, This is a newbe question but I have alwasy doubts with pointers in C++. This is the situation. I have a class A which as a collection (a vector actually) of pointers of class B. This same class A has another collection of pointers to class C. Finally the objects of class B have also a collection to pointers to class C which point to the same instances the class A points to. My question is, if I delete a member of class-C-type pointer in class B, what happens to the pointer in class A that points to the deleted instance of class C? How this situation has to be treated? • SQL Server 2008 second instance times out when logging in -- but only the first time?

  This is a strange one that has plagued me for a while now. When logging in to the second instance of SQL Server 2008 on one of our database servers, we get a timeout error: Cannot connect to servername\mssqlserver2. Additional information: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft SQL Server)") (This is the error message when trying to connect with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio; other tools experience the same error, but of course say it in different ways.) Immediately re-attempting to log in works just fine, so whatever the cause it's ephemeral! This happens regardless of user or authentication type (both Windows and SQL Server authentication methods are supported on this instance). What's even weirder, though, is that the first instance on this server has never once demonstrated this problem. Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual server, hosted in Microsoft Hyper-V (host is likewise Server 2008 R2). The server has 2GB of RAM, and seems to regularly be using 90% of that -- could low memory be the cause of this issue? I could see this second instance -- which is not used very often yet -- being swapped out to disk, and then taking too long to load back into memory to respond in time to the connection request, but I'd rather have more than just my own hunch before I go scheduling a downtime for this server (the first instance is used regularly) and then just throwing extra resources at it in the blind hope that the problem goes away.

• MS Word 2010: Hide citation title when 2 publications by same first author from different years are in one citation block

  I'm trying to hide the display of the titles for two publications by the same first author from different years that are in the same citation block. By default, the title is shown in citations when there are two publications by the same author in a given document. The easiest way to get around this is to right click on the citation, click "Edit Citation", and then suppress the title. However, the issue with this is that if there are 2 citations in 1 citation block (i.e., "(Smith, J., et al. 2010, Smith, J., et al. 2011)" rather than "(Smith, J., et al. 2010) (Smith, J., et al. 2011)"), then using that suppress option only suppresses the title for the first citation (in this case, the 2010 publication). OTOH, if I try to initially insert the publications in separate citation blocks, I can suppress the title in both citations, but I can't cut and paste one into the other's citation block. I can click "Cut" and the citation that was just cut disappears, but the "Paste" option is not available when my cursor is in the second citation block. Any ideas? Thanks!

• SSL configuration issue. SSL/IIS7 not loading all scripts/CSS on user's first visit

  Hi all, Hopefully this isnt a tricky one. I've got a web app that doesn't load all javascript/css/images on the first visit. Second visit is fine. After approximately 2 minutes of inactivity the problem reoccurs. These problems only started occuring after the customer requested SSL be applied to the application. Ajax requests stop working after 2 minutes of activity despite a successful page load of all javascript elements. Application timeout is 30 minutes - like I said, everything was fine before SSL was applied. All javascript and CSS files use absolute URLS - e.g https://blablabla There appears to be no pattern as to why certain files arent loaded. The firebug Net output shows the status for the failed elements as 'Aborted'. For example, site.css and nav.css are in the same folder, are declared after each other in the head tag yet one is loaded and the other is not. Both will load fine after refreshing the page (unless roughly two minutes have passed). An Ajax request also shows as aborted after two minutes. However, if i do the request again the Ajax request will succeed. Almost as if the first request woke something up. None of these problems occur in Chrome Any ideas? FYI this is a .Net 4 C# MVC app running under IIS7 but I'm not sure its relevant since it works in Chrome. Everything worked fine before SSL was applied.
