  In my application it is necessary to have internet connection. Therefore i check while starting if a Internet connection is availaible. If not I ask the user if he would establish an Internet Connection, and what type (wifi oder mobile). • Don't see Clean solution option in Visual Studio

  For one of the solutions, I don't see the Clean Solution option neither in the context menu when I right click on the solution name in the Solution Explorer nor in the Build menu. When I make any changes to the project and debug, VS never hits the break point and I get the "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. The source code is different from the original version." message. My understanding is that I need to clean the solution. For other solutions, I do see the Clean solution and I don't have the same issue.

• Hide Soft Keyboard Not Working ...

  I'm developing on the Droid Incredible (and have tested on a 1.5 AVD Emulator as well), and one of the tabs in my tab widget consists of a listview and a row with an EditText and a Send button (for a chat feature). I am using the following to close the soft keyboard once I click Send, but it's not working. This is identical to code I've found elsewhere that people have upvoted as correct. See anything I'm missing? // in Button's onClick(): EditText chatTextBox = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.chat_entry); // Handle button click ... chatTextBox.setText(""); InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); imm.hideSoftInputFromInputMethod(chatTextBox.getWindowToken(), InputMethodManager.HIDE_IMPLICIT_ONLY); I also tried changing the flag to 0. • Unit Testing, IDataContext and Stored Procedures via Linq

  hey folks, I'm currently using Stephen Walther's approach to unit testing Linq to SQL and the datacontext (http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2008/08/17/asp-net-mvc-tip-33-unit-test-linq-to-sql.aspx) which is working a treat for all things linq. My Dal layer takes in an IDataContext, I use DI (via Unity) to concrete that up as the correct DataContext object and all works well. But - we have a company policy here of writes going via Stored Procs. Has anyone come up with a solution for mocking/faking the data context and still allowing stored procs to effectively be unit tested? I've got no real experience of any of the mocking frameworks (Rhino etc.) so if these are the correct means of doing this, I'd love some pointers on guides for them. Many thanks, Terry

  I am using jaxb for my application configurations I feel like I am doing something really crooked and I am looking for a way to not need an actual file or this transaction. As you can see in code I: 1.create a schema into a file from my JaxbContext (from my class annotation actually) 2.set this schema file in order to allow true validation when I unmarshal JAXBContext context = JAXBContext.newInstance(clazz); Schema mySchema = SchemaFactory.newInstance(XMLConstants.W3C_XML_SCHEMA_NS_URI).newSchema(schemaFile); jaxbContext.generateSchema(new MySchemaOutputResolver()); // ultimately creates schemaFile Unmarshaller u = m_context.createUnmarshaller(); u.setSchema(mySchema); u.unmarshal(...); do any of you know how I can validate jaxb without needing to create a schema file that sits in my computer? Do I need to create a schema for validation, it looks redundant when I get it by JaxbContect.generateSchema ? How do you do this?

• Which Cortex-M3 interrupts can I use for general purpose work?

  I'd have some code that needs to be run as the result of a particular interrupt going off. I don't want to execute it in the context of the interrupt itself but I also don't want it to execute in thread mode. I would like to run it at a priority that's lower than the high level interrupt that precipitated its running but also a priority that higher than thread level (and some other interrupts as well). I think I need to use one of the other interrupt handlers. Which ones are the best to use and what the best way to invoke them? At the moment I'm planning on just using the interrupt handlers for some peripherals that I'm not using and invoking them by setting bits directly through the NVIC but I was hoping there's a better, more official way. • Is it possible to scan Entities in jar files using JPA and hibernate

  I have the following situation : Project A - Contains a few entities and is independent Project B - Contains a few entities and is independent Project C - Contains few entities and is dependent on Project A & Project B. I am using Maven to manage dependencies and builds. When I try to test Project A and project B it goes through fine. Each of them has a persistence.xml and a separate persistent context. When I run Project C , It does map any of the entities. I have tried to use the auto-detect, specified the jar file attribute ... but nothing seems to work. It gives me a Mapping Exception saying unknown entity and wont persist or read the Entities from Projects A or B. I have posted the 3 persistence.xml files here. Also, I tried using the class attribute and using the same persistent context but it just wont find the files. Any help is really appreciated. • Creating a System.Web.UI.Page programatically in IHTTPHandler

  I am trying to use the ASP.NET (3.5) "Routing Module" functionality to create custom pages based on the contents of the URL. Various articles, such as this one: http://blogs.msdn.com/mikeormond/archive/2008/05/14/using-asp-net-routing-independent-of-mvc.aspx explain how to use ASP.NET Routing to branch to existing pages on the web server. What I would like to do is create the page on-the-fly using code. My first attempt looks like this: public class SimpleRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { string pageName = requestContext.RouteData.GetRequiredString("PageName"); Page myPage = new Page(); myPage.Response.Write("hello " + pageName); return myPage; } } But this throws an HTTPException saying "Response is not available in this context." at the Response.Write statement. Any ideas on how to proceed? UPDATE: In the end, I went with an approach based on IHttpModule, which turned out to be rather easy.

  How can I build in wildcards to my LINQ To SQL lambda expression? I'm experimenting with SqlMethods.Like() but to no avail. The filters above look like this: "<key>NID</key><value>mcass</value>". I'd like to be able to pass filters like this: "<key>NID</key><value>%m%</value>"

• Animating resizing and moving UIView at the same time

  I'd like to "Stretch" a UIView to the right side, meaning increase it's frame.size.width by foo pixels and at the same time decreasing it's frame.origin.x by foo pixels, using [UIView beginAnimations] syntax. However, if I do that, when the animation begins the view immediately resizes, and then starts the animation for the origin. CGRect currFrame = someView.frame; currFrame.size.width += 100; currFrame.origin.x -= 100; [UIView beginAnimations:@"Anim1" context:nil]; someView.frame = currFrame; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.7]; [UIView commitAnimations]; I've also tried breaking the animation down to 2 parts but then I can't keep the right position in place.   Hi, My app shows rising 'Old Generation'/'Tenured Generation' size, and when this reaches the max limit for 'Old Gen', then suddenly PermGen size increases. Here are my generation sizings: -Xmx1200m -Xms1200m -Xmn450m -XX:MaxPermSize=600m -XX:+UseParallelGC This is on 32 bit Fedora so can't have a bigger heap than this. The app is not doing any fancy classloading, though it is using Spring IOC and Hibernate, the Spring App-context.xml defines some 1000 Beans. This app starts with 175MB PermGen, which steadily increases to ~250MB in few hrs, stays that way till Tenured Generation reached ~780 MB, then permgen jumps to ~500MB while Old Gen drops to ~500MB. This forces me to restart the App on daily basis, and gives me real scare of looming OutOfMemory Error.. Any insights would be very helpful. Thanks Gala101

  I have the following navigation where .topNav has position:relative and subnav has position:absolute. I cant get the sublist to appear over the main list due to z-index problems. This seems to be a known problem. <ul> <li class="topNav">About Us <ul class="subNav"><li> Subsection A</li><li>Subsection B</li></ul> </li> </ul> Does anyone know of a workaround? UPDATE http://brh.numbera.com/experiments/ie7_tests/zindex.html shows exacly the problem I have. My original posting was in the context of a list but I have reduced the problem to the fact that z-index dosn't seem to work when have an element with position:absolute inside a parent element with position:relative

• ListView adapter data change without ListView being notified

  I've written a ListActivity that has a custom list adapter. The list is being updated from a ContentProvider when onCreate is run. I also have a service that gets started when I run the app and it first updates the ContentProvider, then sends a Broadcast that the content has been updated. My ListActivity recieves the broadcast and tries to update my ListView. My problem is, I'm getting intermittent errors about the ListView adapter data changing without the ListView being notified. I call the notifyDataSetChanged() method on my list adapter right after I update it. What it seems like is happening is the list is still in the process of being updated after first call in onCreate when it recieves the broadcast from the service to update, so it tries to update my ListView before it's finished updating from it's first run. Does this make sense? Here is some of my code. • Listview selects mutliple items when clicked

  I'm trying to make a task manager, and I only have one problem. I have a listview that gets inflated. All the elements in the listview are correct. The problem is that when I select an item, the listview will select another item away. I've heard listviews repopulate the list as it scrolls down to save memory. I think this may be some sort of problem. Here is a picture of the problem. If i had more apps loaded, then it would continue to select multiple at once. • Rhino - Set FEATURE_LOCATION_INFORMATION_IN_ERROR in code?

  I'd like fileName, lineNumber and stack traces to automatically be provided by Rhino for any errors. I've been told that I need to set FEATURE_LOCATION_INFORMATION_IN_ERROR on the current context, but I'm not sure how to do this in code. Does anybody have an example of turning this feature on so that I can see stacktrace dumps on crashes? I'm using Rhino as part of Narwhal/Jack, and so that complicates things a bit, and I think the easiest way to at least get moving forward is if I can set it through code. Thanks.

• Function pointer arrays in Fortran

  I can create function pointers in Fortran 90, with code like real, external :: f and then use f as an argument to another function/subroutine. But what if I want an array of function pointers? In C I would just do double (*f[])(int); to create an array of functions returning double and taking an integer argument. I tried the most obvious, real, external, dimension(3) :: f but gfortran doesn't let me mix EXTERNAL and DIMENSION. Is there any way to do what I want? (The context for this is a program for solving a system of differential equations, so I could input the equations without having a million parameters in my subroutines.)

• Spring/Hibernate/Junit example of testing DAO against HSQLDB

  Hi guys, I'm working on trying to implement a JUnit test to check the functionality of a DAO. (The DAO will create/read a basic object/table relationship in HSQLDB). The trouble I'm having is the persistence of the DAO (for the non-test code) is being completed through an in-house solution using Spring/Hibernate, which eliminates the usual *.hbm.xml templates that most examples I have found contain. Beacuse of this, I'm having some trouble understanding how to setup a JUnit test to implement the DAO to create/read (just very basic funtionality) to an in-memory HSQLDB. I have found a few examples, but the usage of the in-house persistence means I can't extend some of the classes the examples show (I can't seem to get the application-context.xml setup properly). Can anyone suggest any projects/examples I could take a look at (or any documentation) to further my understanding of the best way to implement this test functionality? I feel like this should be really simple, but I keep running into problems implementing the examples I have found. Thanks in advance!

• IIS6 Metabase Compatiblity not installing correctly for Vista IIS7

  I've been bashing my head against this one for a few days, and haven't had any luck with it. I'm unable to get my VS2010 ASP.NET project to deploy to IIS. I receive the error "Unable to create the virtual directory. To access local IIS Web sites, you must install the following IIS Components IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility ASP.NET In addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an Administrator Account" I've most certainly installed the metabase option, but it still shows up. I'm also not sure why it's telling me to install ASP.NET. Google is being entirely unhelpful, I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64Bit

• Client-side Replication for SQL Server?

  I'd like to have some degree of fault tolerance / redundancy with my SQL Server Express database. I know that if I upgrade to a pricier version of SQL Server, I can get "Replication" built in. But I'm wondering if anyone has experience in managing replication on the client side. As in, from my application: Every time I need to create, update or delete records from the database -- issue the statement to all n servers directly from the client side Every time I need to read, I can do so from one representative server (other schemes seem possible here, too). It seems like this logic could potentially be added directly to my Linq-To-SQL Data Context. Any thoughts?

• How do people prove the correctness of Computer Vision methods?

  I'd like to pose a few abstract questions about computer vision research. I haven't quite been able to answer these questions by searching the web and reading papers. How does someone know whether a computer vision algorithm is correct? How do we define "correct" in the context of computer vision? Do formal proofs play a role in understanding the correctness of computer vision algorithms? A bit of background: I'm about to start my PhD in Computer Science. I enjoy designing fast parallel algorithms and proving the correctness of these algorithms. I've also used OpenCV from some class projects, though I don't have much formal training in computer vision. I've been approached by a potential thesis advisor who works on designing faster and more scalable algorithms for computer vision (e.g. fast image segmentation). I'm trying to understand the common practices in solving computer vision problems.
