  Let's assume I have two service classes with the following methods: GroupService createGroup() deleteGroup() updateGroup() findGroup() UserService createUser() deleteUser() updateUser() findUser() Now, I am thinking about the aesthetics of theses classes. Imagine we want to implement a method which search for all user of a specific group. Which service class is responsible for such a method? I mean, the return value is a user (or maybe a collection of users) but the parameter (which means the name of the group) is a group. So which service class is the better place to put this method in?

• Strategies for generating Zend Cache Keys

  ATM i'm manually generating a cache key based on the method name and parameters, then follow to the normal cache pattern. I want to avoid the duplication of parameters to the cache creation method and also to the model method, so i'm thinking of moving the caching logic away from my controller class and into model class packaged in './model/DbTable', but this seems incorrect since the DB model should only handle SQL operations. Any suggestions on how i can implement a clean patterned solution?

• Can I create a collection in Scala that uses different equals/hashCode/compare implementations?

  I'm looking for as simple way to create an identity set. I just want to be able to keep track of whether or not I've "seen" a particular object while traversing a graph. I can't use a regular Set because Set uses "==" (the equals method in Scala) to compare elements. What I want is a Set that uses "eq." Is there any way to create a Set in Scala that uses some application-specified method for testing equality rather than calling equals on the set elements? I looked for some kind of "wrapEquals" method that I could override but did not find it. I know that I could use Java's IdentityHashMap, but I'm looking for something more general-purpose. Another idea I had was to just wrap each set element in another object that implements equals in terms of eq, but it's wasteful to generate tons of new objects just to get a new equals implementation. • Retain Count Question: Some Guidance, Please

  [I'm sure this is not odd at all, but I need just a bit of help] I have two retain properties @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *listContent; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *filteredListContent; and in the viewDidLoad method I set the second equal to the first (so now the retainCount is two, I think): self.filteredListContent = self.listContent; and then on every search I do this self.filteredListContent = [listContent filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]; I thought I should do a release right above this assignment -- since the property should cause an extra retain, right? -- but that causes the program to explode the second time I run the search method. The retain counts (without the extra release) are 2 the first time I come into the search method, and 1 each subsequent time (which is what I expected, unfortunately). Some guidance would help, thanks! Is it correct to not release?

• Android MapView with High Res tiles?

  I have created a simple map app that shows the local garage sales in my town. It was simple enough to create and I parse out the Google Maps (html) xml doc that the local paper uses on their google maps mashup on their website. I have noticed that the Map Tiles used in the MapView class are not as high-res as the tiles used in the real Android Google Maps app (I have a Droid). I have searched the docs and google, but I cannot find any info on this. Actually, I can't even find anyone mentioning this, which surprises me and makes me think I am missing something simple. Is this a case of Google making the APIs available, but at a lower quality, or am I missing some setting that enables higher quality map tiles?

  Ok so this might be a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure it out. I thought I'd try out LINQ against a DataTable. I got my query working and now I'm trying to implement some simple paging. Error 1 'System.Data.OrderedEnumerableRowCollection' does not contain a definition for 'Skip' and no extension method 'Skip' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Data.OrderedEnumerableRowCollection' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Webservice has method which create folder Directory.Create(path); Webservice is at company server, and this folder must me create at another disc in out company. When I invoke this method, i get exception "Acces denied to path..." When webservice was running at my computer everything was ok. I have full acces to this network disc. But how to set full access to my company server??   I want to pass a reference type by value to a method in C#. Is there a way to do it. In C++, I could always rely on the copy constructor to come into play if I wanted to pass by Value. Is there any way in C# except: 1. Explicitly creating a new object 2. Implementing IClonable and then calling Clone method. Here's a small example: Let's take a class A in C++ which implements a copy constructor. A method func1(Class a), I can call it by saying func1(objA) (Automatically creates a copy) Does anything similar exist in C#. By the way, I'm using Visual Studio 2005.

• JPA DAO integration test not throwing exception when duplicate object saved?

  I am in the process of unit testing a DAO built with Spring/JPA and Hibernate as the provider. Prior to running the test, DBUnit inserted a User record with username "poweruser" -- username is the primary key in the users table. • How to manage Libraries/jar files in eclipse?

  I might be missing something but how do you manage Java projects in eclipse that need a lot of Jar files. I know maven manages libraries well if there are new updates but maybe I'm missing something, is there a way that eclipse can update new jar files (it would be especially useful for projects using apache-commons, say). I don't want to sound like asking for a feature request, but I'm looking at if there are ways to keep libraries jar files that a Java project uses to keep them updated automatically the way maven does. With more languages coming with this type of features, finding the right Jar files probably should be easier than this.

To help me diagnose where the error is coming from, I dropped the PDB files into the application's bin directory, and reproduced the exception. All line numbers for each stack frame look correct, with the exception of one which displays "line 0" as its source.

• NSAutoreleasePool carrying across methods?

  I'm building an iPhone application where I detach some threads to do long-running work in the background so as not to hang the UI. I understand that threads need NSAutoreleasePool instances for memory management. What I'm not sure about is if the threaded method calls another method - does that method also need an NSAutoreleasePool? Example code: - (void)primaryMethod { [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(threadedMethod) withObject:nil]; } - (void)threadedMethod { NSAutoreleasePool *aPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // Some code here [self anotherMethod]; // Maybe more code here [aPool drain]; } - (void)anotherMethod { // More code here } The reason I ask is I'm receiving errors that objects are being autoreleased with no pool in place, and are "just leaking." I've seen other questions where people didn't have autorelease pools in place at all, and I understand why an autorelease pool is needed. I'm specifically interested in finding out whether an autorelease pool created in (in this example) threadedMethod applies to objects created in anotherMethod.

  The first error is a warning for complier 'com.apple.compilers.gcc.4_0' I don't know if this is okay and I can just not worry about it. The second tells me that my entitlements file is no longer at that location. I know this and I thought I had correctly updated it in Xcode's info window. This project builds fine in Xcode.   If I have a instance method and within this method I do something like this: NSString *peopleString = [peopleList componentsJoinedByString: @", "]; ... UILabel *likeLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(16.0+6.0f, 4.0f, 252.0f, 12.0f)]; [likeLabel setText:peopleString]; [likeLabel setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"Arial" size:12]]; [likeRow addSubview:likeLabel]; [likeLabel release]; The componentsJoinedByString doesn't contain a new, copy or alloc, thus I don't have to release it. What I'm wondering though is, when my peopleString gets deallocated. Might it happen to early? Meaning, before I can set the text in my label. Should I better use a [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[peopleList componentsJoinedByString: @", "]]; and release it at the end of this method?

Below is the method call Directory.GetFiles(selectedFolder, "*.xml", SearchOption.AllDirectories); I want to notify this to users. Is there a way to show them that file loading is in progress? I want a simplest way. I suppose Splash screen is too costly for my app.

  I need to to write a method that is called like printTriangle(5);. We need to create an iterative method and a recursive method (without ANY iteration). • Can running object be garbage collected?

  I have a simple class: public class Runner { public void RunAndForget(RunDelegate method) { ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(Run), method); } private void Run(object o) { ((RunDelegate )o).Invoke(); } } And if I use this like so: private void RunSomethingASync() { Runner runner = new Runner(); runner.FireAndForget(new RunDelegate(Something)); } Is there any danger using it like this? My C++ guts tell me that runner object should be destroyed after RunSomethingASync is finished. Am I right? What happens then to the method running on different thread? Or perhaps it is other way around and runner will not be collected? That would be a problem considering I may call RunSomethingASync() many times.

• Android MapView High Res tiles?

  I have created a simple map app that shows the local garage sales in my town. It was simple enough to create and I parse out the Google Maps (html) xml doc that the local paper uses on their google maps mashup on their website. I have noticed that the Map Tiles used in the MapView class are not as high-res as the tiles used in the real Android Google Maps app (I have a Droid). I have searched the docs and google, but I cannot find any info on this. Actually, I can't even find anyone mentioning this, which surprises me and makes me think I am missing something simple. Is this a case of Google making the APIs available, but at a lower quality, or am I missing some setting that enables higher quality map tiles?
