  • Sharing a fabfile across multiple projects

    - by Matthew Rankin
Fabric has become my deployment tool of choice both for deploying Django projects and for initially configuring Ubuntu slices. However, my current workflow with Fabric isn't very DRY, as I find myself: copying the fabfile.py from one Django project to another and modifying the fabfile.py as needed for each project (e.g., changing the webserver_restart task from Apache to Nginx, configuring the host and SSH port, etc.). One advantage of this workflow is that the fabfile.py becomes part of my Git repository, so between the fabfile.py and the pip requirements.txt, I have a recreateable virtualenv and deployment process. I want to keep this advantage, while becoming more DRY. It seems that I could improve my workflow by: being able to pip install the common tasks defined in the fabfile.py and having a fab_config file containing the host configuration information for each project and overriding any tasks as needed Any recommendations on how to increase the DRYness of my Fabric workflow?

  • How to use #ifdef entities as part of functions in header files

    - by Crazyjavahacking
I would like to ask if it is possible to use the entities defined in #ifdef block in header files. To be clear, I have following code: #ifdef #include <winsock2.h> #define SOCKET_HANDLE SOCKET #define CONNECTION_HANDLE SOCKET #endif SOCKET_HANDLE createServerSocket(const char* hostAddress, short port); I am Java developer and this seems completely fine for me. However compiler has a problem with this. Can you explain why is that code a problem? Also how can I force to compile it. (The idea is to have generic interface and conditional compilation to determine real types according to running platform at compile time.) Thanks

  • Best way to parse XMPP-like XML streams?

    - by codethief
I am working on a server application which receives data over a TCP socket in an XMPP-like XML format, i.e. every child of the <root> element essentially represents one separate request (stanza). The connection is closed as soon as </root> is received. I do know that I must use a stream parser like SAX, somehow. Though, for convenience, I'd prefer to have a tree-like interface to access each stanza's child elements. (The data sent with every request is not large so I think it makes sense to read each stanza as a whole.) What's the best way to realize that in Python (preferably v3)? This is the code I'd like to build it in. Feel free to point me in a totally different direction to solve this issue. import socketserver import settings class MyServer(socketserver.ThreadingMixIn, socketserver.TCPServer): pass class MyRequestHandler(socketserver.StreamRequestHandler): def handle(self): pass if __name__ == '__main__': server = MyServer((settings.host, settings.port), MyRequestHandler) server.serve_forever()

  • ClassNotFoundException (HqlToken) when running in WebLogic

    - by dave
I have a .war file for an application that normally runs fine in Jetty. I'm trying to port the application to run in WebLogic, but at startup I'm getting these exceptions: ERROR:Foo - Error in named query: findBar org.hibernate.QueryException: ClassNotFoundException: org.hibernate.hql.ast.HqlToken [from Bar] at org.hibernate.hql.ast.HqlLexer.panic(HqlLexer.java:80) at antlr.CharScanner.setTokenObjectClass(CharScanner.java:340) at org.hibernate.hql.ast.HqlLexer.setTokenObjectClass(HqlLexer.java:54) at antlr.CharScanner.<init>(CharScanner.java:51) at antlr.CharScanner.<init>(CharScanner.java:60) at org.hibernate.hql.antlr.HqlBaseLexer.<init>(HqlBaseLexer.java:56) at org.hibernate.hql.antlr.HqlBaseLexer.<init>(HqlBaseLexer.java:53) at org.hibernate.hql.antlr.HqlBaseLexer.<init>(HqlBaseLexer.java:50) ... What's the best way to fix this? I'm using Hibernate 3.3.1.GA and WebLogic 10.3.2.0.

  • Capistrano update causes C: to be placed in the current directory (cygwin)

    - by user321775
When I run cap deploy:update in a directory on my local machine (via cygwin), "C:" magically appears in the directory. Sure enough, I can cd to it and it's my windows C: drive. Now I'm afraid to delete it, but I definitely don't want it in this directory (a rails project under /home/username/blah/blah). Here's my config/deploy.rb file. custom options set :application, "xyz.com" set :repository, "ssh://[email protected]:yyyy/home/git/xxx" set :user, "myname" set :runner, user set :use_sudo, false server "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy", :app, :web, :db, :primary = true deploy to set :deploy_to, "/home/myname/public_html/xyz" repository set :scm, :git set :deploy_via, :copy ssh options default_run_options[:pty] = true ssh_options[:paranoid] = false ssh_options[:port] = yyyy start passenger namespace :deploy do task :start do ; end task :stop do ; end task :restart, :roles = :app, :except = { :no_release = true } do run "#{try_sudo} touch #{File.join(current_path,'tmp','restart.txt')}" end end Anyone see the problem? And does anyone know a safe way of getting rid of the C: drives that have already shown up (this has happened in a few directories)?

  • Porting VS2005 project to VS2008

    - by lucavb
i need to port a VS2005 Project (.NET2) to a VS2008 (.NET3.5) (or to VS2010 .NET4 not yet defined). The project is composed by: resources and configuration files (VS project files, like: .settings .vbproj .myapp .config .xconfig .Designer.vb); a lot of VB codes; xsc, xsd, xss and xsx files; a lot of Crystal reports for VS2005; graphical resources. The application take data in order to generate reports from more DB SQL Server 2005 istances. What is the best way to approach to a migration activity? Is there an internal migration tool? If yes, what's the best practice to use it? Which kind of files will be automatically ported to the new VS version? Thanks in advance for all the provided information

  • CodeIgniter version 2.0 is stable enough to use?

    - by ajsie
i want to port my application to CodeIgniter but i am wondering whether i should use their v2.0 or v1.72 (then when they release 2.0, upgrade it). i have never used a framework before so i don't exactly know what implies when upgrading a framework: what does it mean practically - i just move the folders and it will work? or do i have to change a lot of settings, file structure etc? could someone enlighten me about the upgrade process. and what would you use: v.1.72 or v2.0? if i'm using the latest version, is there a good documentation for it somewhere so you can read about how to use the new features: packages, drivers and so on. thanks

  • Squid+iptables: how do i allow https to pass-through and bypassing Squid?

    - by logansama
Hello, Basically started with Squid and iptables today (google is your friend). This stuff is going to be the death of me. I have Squid3 setup on Ubuntu 9.04 server as Transparent Proxy. It works sweetly when i use the proxy-box as my default gateway etc. The iptable rules for this setup was part of the tutorial. :P I can unfortunately not access https sites (such as Gmail or anything on port 443 basically). This is because Squid dont like what it cannot cache, which in this case is the https traffic. I would like to add an iptable rule so that i can basically access https sites and use Skype. Basically allow these types of traffic to pass through without going through Squid proxy? (bypassing it so to speak) Would anyone perhaps know how to do this or have a link to any sources that would assist me in figuring it out? Thank you.

  • .NET Runtime Object Browser.

    - by user290907
Is there a framework which can be used in your application, to make it expose internal objects on some port for inspection. for.e.g. after i start my application in this case a GUI Application, and then say launch http://localhost:9100 then it should show me the statistics of the app. I played a bit with HttpListener accepting connections and then outputting raw HTML, it works fine for simple tasks, but there is too much worked involved if i have make a proper object browser. Thanks in Advance.

  • Is this SQL select code following good practice?

    - by acidzombie24
I am using sqlite and will port to mysql (5) later. I wanted to know if I am doing something I shouldnt be doing. I tried purposely to design so I'll compare to 0 instead of 1 (I changed hasApproved to NotApproved to do this, not a big deal and I haven't written any code). I was told I never need to write a subquery but I do here. My Votes table is just id, ip, postid (I don't think I can write that subquery as a join instead?) and that's pretty much all that is on my mind. Naming conventions I don't really care about since the tables are created via reflection and is all over the place. select id, name, body, upvotes, downvotes, (select 1 from UpVotes where IPAddr=? AND post=Post.id) as myup, (select 1 from DownVotes where IPAddr=@0 AND post=Post.id) as mydown from Post where flag = '0' limit ?, ?"

  • iPhone / Android: what protocol stacks do apps use for connecting to centralised services?

    - by Richard
Hi All, Aplogies for the ignorant question, I have no experience with app development on any mobile platform. Basically what I want to know is what communication protocols do apps typically use for accessing/querying centralised services? E.g if I port a webapp/service to iPhone/Andriod, typically how would I access/query this web service in my app? E.g is it over HTTP, or are there other protocols? Also, presumably the GUI of an app is constructed with Apple/Andriod GUI libraries (in java? cocoa?). Can an app GUI be defined with HTML/javascript like a webpage? Sorry again for the pure noob questions. Thanks

  • What c# equivalent encoding does Python's hash.digest() use ?

    - by The_AlienCoder
I am trying to port a python program to c#. Here is the line that's supposed to be a walkthrough but is currently tormenting me: hash = hashlib.md5(inputstring).digest() After generating a similar MD5 hash in c# It is absolutely vital that I create a similar hash string as the original python program or my whole application will fail. My confusion lies in which encoding to use when converting to string in c# i.e ?Encoding enc = new ?Encoding(); string Hash =enc.GetString(HashBytes); //HashBytes is my generated hash Because I am unable to create two similar hashes when using Encoding.Default i.e string Hash = Encoding.Default.GetString(HashBytes); So I'm thinking knowing the deafult hash.digest() encoding for python would help

  • Setting up scripts in Amazon EC2 Cloud

    - by racket99
Hello, I am currently running a few perl and python scripts on a windows pc and would like to port over to the Amazon EC2 servers running 64-bit LINUX. The scripts are basic web scrapers that go to a variety of websites, get data and then save daily as csv files. I would like to install these in the cloud and get them running in an automated way so that they will run without my intervention. Also given that I don't want to lose all the data if the instance crashes, I should also upload the csv files to Amazon S3. Any idea how I can do this? I am not terribly versed in LINUX nor do I know Perl/Python well. What is the best way for me to tackle thi

  • How to determine IP used by client connecting to INADDR_ANY listener socket in C

    - by codebox_rob
    I have a network server application written in C, the listener is bound using INADDR_ANY so it can accept connections via any of the IP addresses of the host on which it is installed. I need to determine which of the server's IP addresses the client used when establishing its connection - actually I just need to know whether they connected via the loopback address 127.0.0.1 or not. Partial code sample as follows (I can post the whole thing if it helps): static struct sockaddr_in serverAddress; serverAddress.sin_family = AF_INET; serverAddress.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; serverAddress.sin_port = htons(port); bind(listener, (struct sockaddr *) &serverAddress, sizeof(serverAddress)); listen(listener, CONNECTION_BACKLOG); SOCKET socketfd; static struct sockaddr_in clientAddress; ... socketfd = accept(listener, (struct sockaddr *) &clientAddress, &length);

  • Creating many native GUI frontends for a cross-platform application

    - by Hugh Young
I've been away from GUI programming for quite some time so please pardon my ignorance. I would like to attempt the following: Write a Mac OSX app but still be able to port to Win/Linux (i.e. C++ core with Obj-C GUI) Avoid Qt/other toolkits on OSX (i.e. talk to Cocoa directly - I feel that many Qt apps I use stick out like sore thumbs compared to the rest of my system) Not as important, but it would be nice to avoid Visual Studio if it means I can have the freedom to use newer C++ features even on Windows if they help create better code. I believe this configuration might get me what I'm looking for: Core C++ Static Library OSX GUI (Cocoa) Windows GUI (Qt+MinGW?) OR (no new C++ features, Visual Studio + ManagedC++/C#/????) Linux GUI (Qt) Once again, sorry for my ignorance but is this possible? Is this sane? Are there any real-world open source examples accomplish something like this?

  • Sending a large file over network continuously

    - by David Parunakian
Hello, We need to write software that would continuously (i.e. new data is sent as it becomes available) send very large files (several Tb) to several destinations simultaneously. Some destinations have a dedicated fiber connection to the source, while some do not. Several questions arise: We plan to use TCP sockets for this task. What failover procedure would you recommend in order to handle network outages and dropped connections? What should happen upon upload completion: should the server close the socket? If so, then is it a good design decision to have another daemon provide file checksums on another port? Could you recommend a method to handle corrupted files, aside from downloading them again? Perhaps I could break them into 10Mb chunks and calculate checksums for each chunk separately? Thanks.

  • WCF: What happens if a channel is established but no method is called?

    - by mafutrct
In my specific case: A WCF connection is established, but the only method with "IsInitiating=true" (the login method) is never called. What happens? In case the connection is closed due to inactivity after some time: Which setting configures this timeout? Is there still a way for a client to keep the connection alive? Reason for this question: I'm considering the above case as a possible security hole. Imagine many clients connecting to a server without logging in thus preventing other clients from connecting due to bandwidth problems or port shortage or lack of processing power or ... Am I dreaming, or is this an actual issue?

  • Is it possible to creating a Service without starting it?

    - by ThaMe90
Hello all, I wonder, is it possible to create a Service, set some data, and then start it? I haven't come across a thread specific to this problem, so I would like to know if it is possible (if it is known of course). My problem is that I have a Service which listens to a DatagramSocket, but the socket in question needs to be set after creation, but before the start of the Service. The setting of the socket happens through the use of a Broadcast (I broadcast 2 Strings which hold the IP-Address & Port and the BroadcastReceiver then constructs a socket for me). When the Service is started, a Thread will start to run and listen to the supposedly created socket. This, sadly, doesn't happen. The socket will remain null and I can't set it when the Thread is running (This is another issue I hope to tackle in the future, if anybody got any ideas about this, please notify me). So, is what I want possible, or should I come up with another construct for achieving this goal?

  • Killing a subprocess including its children from python

    - by user316664
Hi, I'm using the subprocess module on python 2.5 to spawn a java program (the selenium server, to be precise) as follows: import os import subprocess display = 0 log_file_path = "/tmp/selenium_log.txt" selenium_port = 4455 selenium_folder_path = "/wherever/selenium/lies" env = os.environ env["DISPLAY"] = ":%d.0" % display command = ["java", "-server", "-jar", 'selenium-server.jar', "-port %d" % selenium_port] log = open(log_file_path, 'a') comm = ' '.join(command) selenium_server_process = subprocess.Popen(comm, cwd=selenium_folder_path, stdout=log, stderr=log, env=env, shell=True) This process is supposed to get killed once the automated tests are finished. I'm using os.kill to do this: os.killpg(selenium_server_process.pid, signal.SIGTERM) selenium_server_process.wait() This does not work. The reason is that the shell subprocess spawns another processfor the java program, and the pid of that process is unknown to my python code. I've tried killing the process group with os.killpg, but that kills also the python process which runs this code in the first place. Setting shell to false, thus avoiding the java program to run inside a shell environment, is also out of the question, due to other reasons. Does anyone have an idea how I can kill the shell and any other processes generated by it? Cheers, Ulas

GPS IC has been set to output NMEA sentence. We want a program which just reads data from USB port and print it on the screen. Can we write something like this easily ? Do we have any open source tool which will achieve this purpose ? Platform : Windows 7

  • Proper way to handle issue when porting 32 to 64 bit. Conversion from DT1 to DT2 of greater size

    - by grobartn
So I am trying to port 32 bit to 64 bit. I have turned on the VS2008 flag for detecting problems with 64 bit. I am trying following: char * pList = (char *)uiTmp); warning C4312: 'type cast' : conversion from 'unsigned int' to 'char *' of greater size Disregard the code itself. This is also true for any pointer, because 64 bit pointer is greater than 32 bit unsigned int or int for that purpose. Given that you have to cast smaller type to greater how would you go about doing it so it correctly on both 32/64 bit systems

  • What is the Sql Server equivalent for Oracle's DBMS_ASSERT?

    - by dotNetYum
DBMS_ASSERT is one of the keys to prevent SQL injection attacks in Oracle. I tried a cursory search...is there any SQL Server 2005/2008 equivalent for this functionality? I am looking for a specific implementation that has a counterpart of all the respective Oracle package members of DBMS_ASSERT. NOOP SIMPLE_SQL_NAME QUALIFIED_SQL_NAME SCHEMA_NAME I know the best-practices of preventing injection...bind variables...being one of them. But,in this question I am specifically looking for a good way to sanitize input...in scenarios where bind-variables were not used. Do you have any specific implemetations? Is there a library that actually is a SQL Server Port of the Oracle package?

  • ORB forwards to a wrong location

    - by dave-keiture
I have an orbd started at a virtual host (with the IP A), with some remote object registered. Box that hosts virual boxes has IP B. When client tries to connect to the ORB at A to acquire the NamingContext, ORB replies with a LocationForward message poiniting to host B and port 1049 (like if another ORB would be started at that host). NamingContext is returned successfully, but obviously I'm not able to acqure the objects, registered at the NamingContext (at ORB hosted at A) by the name. Could anyone please explain what's happening? How can I access the orb hosted at A remotely? Thanks in advance.
