  • What is the recommended way to pass data back and forth between two threads using C#

    - by kenalex
I am trying to make an app that will pass data between two servers Connection1 and Conenction2 using sockets. What i would like to do is receive data from Connection1 and pass it to Connection2 and vice-versa.Connection1 and Conenction2 are on different threads. What is the best way to call methods on different threads in order to pass data back and forth between them. Both threads will use the same message object type to communicate in both directions between them. Thanks

  • What is a good approach to preloading data?

    - by Bob Horn
Are there best practices out there for loading data into a database, to be used with a new installation of an application? For example, for application foo to run, it needs some basic data before it can even be started. I've used a couple options in the past: TSQL for every row that needs to be preloaded: IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM Master.Site WHERE Name = @SiteName) INSERT INTO [Master].[Site] ([EnterpriseID], [Name], [LastModifiedTime], [LastModifiedUser]) VALUES (@EnterpriseId, @SiteName, GETDATE(), @LastModifiedUser) Another option is a spreadsheet. Each tab represents a table, and data is entered into the spreadsheet as we realize we need it. Then, a program can read this spreadsheet and populate the DB. There are complicating factors, including the relationships between tables. So, it's not as simple as loading tables by themselves. For example, if we create Security.Member rows, then we want to add those members to Security.Role, we need a way of maintaining that relationship. Another factor is that not all databases will be missing this data. Some locations will already have most of the data, and others (that may be new locations around the world), will start from scratch. Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Address Book is returning old values

    - by Marcus Wood
    Hi there, I am having a problem with the AddressBook framework. It all seems to be stemming from ABCopyRecordForUniqueId returning a record with old data. Example: I run up the program below in one terminal window - it shows the current data. I make a change through the address book UI - my program continues to show old data. I run up another instance of the same program in a new terminal window - it shows the updated data. I have tried posting on the omnigroup site with no luck :( so any guidance is really appreciated PS: If you would like to try the code, to get an address book ID you can export a contact as a vCard and open it with a text editor int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { ABAddressBookRef addressBook = ABGetSharedAddressBook(); while(1) { ABRecordRef addressBookRecord = NULL; addressBookRecord = ABCopyRecordForUniqueId(addressBook, CFSTR("4064D587-0378-4DCF-A6B9-D3702F01C94C:ABPerson")); CFShow(addressBookRecord); CFRelease(addressBookRecord); sleep(1); } return 0; }

  • Drupal - Counting data in nodes, creating custom statistics

    - by hfidgen
Hiya, I'm building some custom content types to capture customer data on a website. Admins will enter the data, users will be able to view it, but I also need to be able to bolt on some statistics and infographics to the data. The problem I have is that I can't see any simple way of doing this within Drupal. Are there modules which can produce simple stats on selected node types or will I have to write a complete custom module using the data abstraction layer? Thanks for any insights!

  • Data Mining open source tools

    - by Andriyev
Hi I'm due to take up a project which is into data mining. Before I jump in I wanted to probe around for different data mining tools (preferably open source) which allows web based reporting. In my scenario the all the data would be provided to me, so I'm not supposed to crawl for it. In n nutshell, am looking for a tool which does - Data Analysis, Web based Reporting, provides some kind of a dashboard and mining features. I have worked on the Microsoft Analysis Services and BOXI and off late I have been looking at Pentaho, which seems to be a good option. Please share your experiences on any such tool which you know of. cheers

  • Storing data in HTML, javascript book, articles recommendations.

    - by michael
I'm looking for articles or books that discuss schemes and techniques adopted by pro javascript developers to store and organize data with html tags. In other words, how to emulate xml data storage with html as semantically as possible. Some various solutions that I've seen mentioned in passing are custom DTD, custom attributes with xhtml, early adoption of html5 and its data- attribute. Now, I'm looking for some tangible material that goes in depth with these concepts.

  • How to save one role implementing a client/server pattern in Azure?

    - by Alfredo Delsors
Sometimes you need to have an instance performing a server role when other instances are playing the client role. An example can be a file sharing like in this great post: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariok/archive/2011/02/11/sharing-folders-in-azure.aspx, one instance shares a folder that all other instances are using to write files that the server processes. The problem is that there is not discovering mechanism in Azure that allows one instance to know where the instance acting as a server is located. A first approach can be having a server role and a client role like in the previous post. This means more instances, more money. A solution to save this "server" role is to use Instance 0, always available, to act as a server. An instance can know that it should act as the server checking RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.Id.EndsWith(".0"). Other instances can iterate the RoleEnvironment Instances collection to find the instance whose name ends with ".0", getting its endpoints and acting as its clients.

  • How do I pitch ASP.NET over PHP to a potential client?

    - by roman m
I work at a Microsoft shop doing mainly web development. We had a client who asked us to review (improve) the data model for his web app, but said that he wants to develop his app in PHP (he knows "a guy" who can do it). When I asked him why he wants to go with PHP, he gave me the standard set of arguments from the 90's: Microsoft is evil, and PHP is free Writing an ASP.NET app is more expensive (software-wise) Why would Facebook use PHP if it was a bad idea? [classic] He had a few more comments about the costs associated with going .NET. The truth is that "Microsoft is expensive" does not hold water any longer, with their "Express" suite, you can develop an ASP.NET app without paying anything for software. When it comes to hosting, you can save a few bucks with PHP over .NET, but that's a small fraction of the projected development costs (we quoted 10-15k). Going back to my question, what arguments would I give to a client in favor of ASP.NET over PHP? [please provide sources for quantitative claims]

  • cross-domain data with AJAX using JSONP

    - by kooshka
I'm trying to get data from Geobytes. One of the templates returns JSON and I need to cross-domain access it. I wrote these 2 functions function getCountry(ip) { var surl = "http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation&template=json.txt"; $.ajax({ url: surl, data: '{"ipaddress":"' + ip + '"}', dataType: "jsonp", jsonp: "callback", jsonpCallback: "jsonpcallback" }); } function jsonpcallback(rtndata) { alert(rtndata.message); } The call is executed but I get 1 warning: Resource interpreted as Script but transferred with MIME type text/html: "http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation&template=json.txt&callback=jsonpcallback&{%22ipaddress%22:%22200.167.254.166%22}&_=1353148931121" 1 Error: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token : The error is thrown on the returned data at {"geobytes":{"countryid":117, I think is maybe because it's 117 and not "117" but I obviously can't control the returned data How can I fix these 2 issues?

  • How can I use JSONP to download client-side javascript objects?

    - by Alex Mcp
I'm trying to get client-side javascript objects saved as a file locally. I'm not sure if this is possible. The basic architecture is this: Ping an external API to get back a JSON object Work client-side with that object, and eventually have a "download me" link This link sends the data to my server, which processes it and sends it back with a mime type application/json, which (should) prompt the user to download the file locally. Right now here are my pieces: Server Side Code <?php $data = array('zero', 'one', 'two', 'testing the encoding'); $json = json_encode($data); //$json = json_encode($_GET['']); //eventually I'll encode their data, but I'm testing header("Content-type: application/json"); header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="backup.json"'); echo $_GET['callback'] . ' (' . $json . ');'; ?> Relevant Client Side Code $("#download").click(function(){ var json = JSON.stringify(collection); //serializes their object $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://www.myURL.com/api.php?callback=?", //this is the above script dataType: "jsonp", contentType: 'jsonp', data: json, success: function(data){ console.log( "Data Received: " + data[3] ); } }); return false; }); Right now when I visit the api.php site with Firefox, it prompts a download of download.json and that results in this text file, as expected: (["zero","one","two","testing the encoding"]); And when I click #download to run the AJAX call, it logs in Firebug Data Received: testing the encoding which is almost what I'd expect. I'm receiving the JSON string and serializing it, which is great. I'm missing two things: The Actual Questions What do I need to do to get the same prompt-to-download behavior that I get when I visit the page in a browser (much simpler) How do I access, server-side, the json object being sent to the server to serialize it? I don't know what index it is in the GET array (silly, I know, but I've tried almost everything)

  • UITableView with Custom Cell only loads one row of data at a time

    - by Anton
For my table, I've created a custom cell that has two labels. I also have two arrays with data, that I use to respectively assign each label in the cell. My problem, is that when the table is viewed, only the first row has data, and the rest of the data "sorta" loads when I start scrolling down. By "sorta", only the first row will load at a time. The only time I get to see all the data, is when I scroll to the bottom, then scroll up again. I've used the cellForRowAtIndexPath method to load the data into my cell. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CustomCellIdentifier = @"CustomCellIdentifier"; CustomCell *cell = (CustomCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CustomCellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { NSArray *nib = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CustomCell" owner:self options:nil]; for (id oneObject in nib) if ([oneObject isKindOfClass:[CustomCell class]]) cell = (CustomCell *)oneObject; } NSUInteger row = [indexPath row]; //I have two tables to fill up, hence the tag if statement if ([tableView tag] == 0) { cell.arriveTimeLabel.text = [homeBoundTimes objectAtIndex:row]; cell.departTimeLabel.text = [homeBoundTimes objectAtIndex:row]; } else if ([tableView tag] == 1) { cell.arriveTimeLabel.text = [workBoundTimes objectAtIndex:row]; cell.departTimeLabel.text = [workBoundTimes objectAtIndex:row]; } return cell; } Is it possible that its only getting called when the top cell is being called?

  • What are the fastest-performing options for a read-only, unordered collection of unique strings?

    - by Dan Tao
Disclaimer: I realize the totally obvious answer to this question is HashSet<string>. It is absurdly fast, it is unordered, and its values are unique. But I'm just wondering, because HashSet<T> is a mutable class, so it has Add, Remove, etc.; and so I am not sure if the underlying data structure that makes these operations possible makes certain performance sacrifices when it comes to read operations -- in particular, I'm concerned with Contains. Basically, I'm wondering what are the absolute fastest-performing data structures in existence that can supply a Contains method for objects of type string. Within or outside of the .NET framework itself. I'm interested in all kinds of answers, regardless of their limitations. For example I can imagine that some structure might be restricted to strings of a certain length, or may be optimized depending on the problem domain (e.g., range of possible input values), etc. If it exists, I want to hear about it. One last thing: I'm not restricting this to read-only data structures. Obviously any read-write data structure could be embedded inside a read-only wrapper. The only reason I even mentioned the word "read-only" is that I don't have any requirement for a data structure to allow adding, removing, etc. If it has those functions, though, I won't complain.

  • Data retrieval error in Jquery

    - by Ben
I'm trying to retrieve data from a php file named return that contains <?php echo 'here is a string'; ?>. I'm doing this through an html file containing ` div { color:blue; } span { color:red; } var x; $.get("return.php", function(data){ x = data; }) function showAlert() {alert(x);} $(document).ready(function(){ alert(x); }); ` When the button is clicked it retrieves and displays the code fine, but on the page loading, it displays "undefined" instead of the data in return.php. Any solutions?

  • Does SEO optimisation count on the responsive side of a site?

    - by Rick Donohoe
I'm looking at making some SEO optimisation fixes, and at this point I'm sorting out the heading structure and keywords - H1's, H2's etc We have a site where there are a number of similar blocks, and one is always visible, and one is hidden depending on the screen size. This is our method of making a single site responsive. Firstly, how does this technique affect the SEO, and in general does the responsive side of a site matter at all to search engines? What I mean by this is if the site has different content depending on screen sizes, then which content would the search spider crawl?

  • Java: Embedded Data Base

    - by Dmitry
Hello! I want to create a desctop application with an embedded data base. Data base is JavaDB(Derby). I have connected a jar file derby.jar to my project. The problem is I don't understand how to register a driver to use this data base. It is said that I should use Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver") But what if that was another data base and its driver was not in a java standart package? As you can see I'm confused with this. I want to know, how to use my connected derby.jar, how to work with its jdbc driver and how to create tables in a specified directory. Please, give as detailed answer, as you can. (I'm a dummy in this =)) )

  • Parsing data with Clojure, interval problem.

    - by Andrea Di Persio
Hello! I'm writing a little parser in clojure for learning purpose. basically is a TSV file parser that need to be put in a database, but I added a complication. The complication itself is that in the same file there are more intervals. The file look like this: ###andreadipersio 2010-03-19 16:10:00### USER COMM PID PPID %CPU %MEM TIME root launchd 1 0 0.0 0.0 2:46.97 root DirectoryService 11 1 0.0 0.2 0:34.59 root notifyd 12 1 0.0 0.0 0:20.83 root diskarbitrationd 13 1 0.0 0.0 0:02.84` .... ###andreadipersio 2010-03-19 16:20:00### USER COMM PID PPID %CPU %MEM TIME root launchd 1 0 0.0 0.0 2:46.97 root DirectoryService 11 1 0.0 0.2 0:34.59 root notifyd 12 1 0.0 0.0 0:20.83 root diskarbitrationd 13 1 0.0 0.0 0:02.84 I ended up with this code: (defn is-header? "Return true if a line is header" [line] (> (count (re-find #"^\#{3}" line)) 0)) (defn extract-fields "Return regex matches" [line pattern] (rest (re-find pattern line))) (defn process-lines [lines] (map process-line lines)) (defn process-line [line] (if (is-header? line) (extract-fields line header-pattern)) (extract-fields line data-pattern)) My idea is that in 'process-line' interval need to be merged with data so I have something like this: ('andreadipersio', '2010-03-19', '16:10:00', 'root', 'launchd', 1, 0, 0.0, 0.0, '2:46.97') for every row till the next interval, but I can't figure how to make this happen. I tried with something like this: (def process-line [line] (if is-header? line) (def header-data (extract-fields line header-pattern))) (cons header-data (extract-fields line data-pattern))) But this doesn't work as excepted. Any hints? Thanks!

  • C++ Windows IOCP - HTTP POST data missing

    - by Mike Trader
I have written a very simple IOCP HTTP server that works for the GET verb, but not POST. I create a socket and a listen thread in which accept() is waiting for a connection. When a client connects I call ioctlsocket() to unblock the socket then I associate the socket with IOCP and finally call WSARecv() to read the data. Some data is indeed read and when that has happened, IOCP wakes up a worker thread via GetQueuedCompletionStatus() and I recover the request data. I only ever get the request header when I POST from any browser. Any suggestions as to why? I am assuming the IOCP completes when ALL the data has arrived from TCP?

  • .Net adding a prefix ctl00_CPHPageContents_ to control IDs

    - by eFriend
I have an asp.net C# web forms application in .net framework 4 In my pages, when I view html source it changes control IDs to something like ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID actually it is txtUserID This application was first in Framework 3.5 and IDs were generated like CPHPageContents_txtUserID So, in short, in Framework 3.5 Id was CPHPageContents_txtUserID and now in Framework 4 ID is ctl00_CPHPageContents_txtUserID which is breaking our automation tests. Can I remove this ctl00 added by Framework 4?

  • jquery selecting element by data attribute

    - by zizo
Is there an easy and straight-forward method to select elements based on their data attribute? For example, select all anchors that has data attribute named customerID which has value of 22. I am kind of hesitant to use rel or other attributes to store such information, but I find it much harder to select an element based on what data is stored in it. Thanks!

  • How to add complex data type from Groovy script to the response in SoapUI

    - by SeeU
My question is about putting data elements (from groovy script) in the response in SoapUI. I've an array of data that I would like to put in my response (in different tags/elements) I'm aware of putting a simple element like this: The element "MyName" in the Xml response: <ns:MyName>${MyName}</ns:MyName> Is mapped from the Groovy script by context.setProperty("MyName" , "My name" ) Now the problem: my Xml response looks like this: <soapenv:Body> <ns:GetDataSummaryResponse> <!--Optional:--> <ns:GetDataSummaryResult> <ns:DataSummary> <!--Zero or more repetitions:--> <ns:DataSummaryResponseDetail> <ns:Name>?</ns:Name> <!--Optional:--> <ns:DataProgress> <!--Optional:--> <From>?</From> <!--Optional:--> <Procent>?</Procent> <!--Optional:--> <To>?</To> <!--Optional:--> In Groovy I've built data array which is filled with data for example like this: context:[DataSummary:[DataSummaryResponseDetail:[Name:My name, DataProgress:[From:some text, Procent:some value, To:some text]]] In the response I'm able to see the whole value of ${DataSummary} but how do I get the element "Procent" I maybe am wrong about how to build my context data, but feel free to adjust! • Change Powerpoint chart data with .NET

    - by mc6688
I have a Powerpoint template that contains 1 slide and on that slide is a chart. I'd like to be able to manipulate that charts data using .NET. So far I have code that... unzips the Powerpoint file. unzips the embedded excel file (ppt\embeddings\Microsoft_Office_Excel_Worksheet1.xlsx) It successfully manipulates the data in the excel sheet and zips it back up. Opens and manipulates ppt\charts\chart1.xml Powerpoint is then zipped up and delivered to the user The result of this is a Powerpoint file that shows a blank chart. But when I click on the chart and go to edit data it updates the data and shows the correct chart. I believe my problem is with the chart1.xml that I am generating. I have compared my generated version with a version created by Powerpoint and they are almost identical. The only differences are in the values for <c:crossAx> and <c:axId>. There are also some rounding difference in the data. But I do not feel like that would result in an blank chart. Is there another file that I need to edit? Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I should try to get this working?

  • Pass dynamic data to mvc controller with AJAX

    - by Yustme
How can I pass dynamic data with an AJAX call to an MVC Controller? Controller: public JsonResult ApplyFilters(dynamic filters){ return null; } The AJAX call: $(':checkbox').click(function (event) { var serviceIds = $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked').map(function () { return $(this).val(); }).toArray(); //alert(serviceIds); $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/home/ApplyFilters', data: JSON.stringify({ name: serviceIds }), contentType: 'application/json', success: function (data) { alert("succeeded"); }, error: function (err, data) { alert("Error " + err.responseText); } }); //return false; }); Ideally would be that the filters would contain the serviceIds as a property For example like this: filters.ServiceIds. I got another filter for a date range and that one would be added like so: filters.DateRange. And server side get the filter as a dynamic object in the ApplyFilters()
