  • Memory leak while using emoticons on CRichEditCtrl

    - by Jorg B Jorge
I'm developing a text editor class (for a chat application) based on CRichEditCtrl (MFC) with emoticon support. After i load the emoticon's bitmap, I use the function OleCreateStaticFromData to insert it into CRichEditCtrl. After that i just delete the bitmap object allocated by myself. I can verify (using a GDIView utility) that all resources i allocate have been properly released. This works perfectly: the bitmap (emoticon) is drawn on the CRichEditCtrl window and is handled just like a character. My problem is that I don't know how to deallocate the memory (internal) allocated by OleCreateStaticFromData to manage the bitmap (emoticon). The memory allocated for any emoticon used is never released, even if i delete the CRichEditCtrl object. I'd like to know how to fix that issue. Is that a MFC's issue or i'm doing something wrong ? Thx.

  • How can I implement a "wizard" style page using JQuery?

    - by Mark Brittingham
I am implementing a questionnaire on the web and I'd like for each block of questions to have its own "page" so the user doesn't have to scroll. However, page loads have two problems: a) they take time (and have a noticeable flicker/refresh) and b) such an approach would force me to do a data table insert plus multiple updates (or store it all in my session). How can I use JQuery to let the user page through the questionnaire on the client side, answering questions as he goes? I'll then be able to handle the data store when all the answers are submitted at the end. One other thing...is there a way to make sure that the session doesn't time out if the user takes awhile?

  • Caching asp.net viewdata

    - by Tomh
    Hey guys, I'm currently thinking about caching most of my viewdata excpt user specific data after a user logs on. I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach? Are there better ways? string cacheKey = "Nieuws/show/" + id; if (HttpRuntime.Cache[cacheKey] != null) { ViewData = HttpRuntime.Cache[cacheKey] as ViewDataDictionary; } else { // add stuff to view data HttpRuntime.Cache.Insert(cacheKey, ViewData, null, DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(180), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.NotRemovable, null); }

  • MySQL triggers cannot update rows in same table the trigger is assigned to. Suggested workaround?

    - by Cory House
MySQL doesn't currently support updating rows in the same table the trigger is assigned to since the call could become recursive. Does anyone have suggestions on a good workaround/alternative? Right now my plan is to call a stored procedure that performs the logic I really wanted in a trigger, but I'd love to hear how others have gotten around this limitation. Edit: A little more background as requested. I have a table that stores product attribute assignments. When a new parent product record is inserted, I'd like the trigger to perform a corresponding insert in the same table for each child record. This denormalization is necessary for performance. MySQL doesn't support this and throws: Can't update table 'mytable' in stored function/trigger because it is already used by statement which invoked this stored function/trigger. A long discussion on the issue on the MySQL forums basically lead to: Use a stored proc, which is what I went with for now. Thanks in advance!

  • JQUERY Loop from a AJAX Response

    - by nobosh
    I'm building a tagger. After a user submits a tag, ajax returns: {"returnmessage":"The Ajax operation was successful.","tagsinserted":"BLAH, BLOOOW","returncode":"0"} I want to take the tagsinserted and loop through it, and during each loop take the item in the list and insert it on the HTML page. suggestion on how to do this right? Here is the current code: $("#tag-post").click(function(){ // Post $('#tag-input').val() $.ajax({ url: '/tags/ajax/post-tag/', data: { newtaginput : $('#tag-input').val(), userid : $('#userid').val()}, success: function(data) { // After posting alert('done'); } }); });

  • Best performance approach to history mechanism?

    - by Royi Namir
We are going to create History Mechanism for our changes in DB (DART in pic) via Triggers. we have 600 tables. Each record that will be changed - the trigger will insert the deleted one into XXX. regarding to the XXX : option 1 : clone each table in "Dart" DB and each table now will have a "sister table" e.g. : Table1 will have Table1_History problems : we will have 1200 tables programmer can do mistakes by working on wrong tables... option 2 : make a new DB (DART_2005 in pic) and the history tables will be there option 3 : use linked server which stores the Db which will contain the history tables. question : 1) which option gives the best performance ( I guess 3 is not - but is it 1 or 2 or same ?) 2) Does option 2 is acting like "linked server" ( in queries we will need to select from both DB's...) 3) What is the best practice approach ?

  • Enable Datepicker only when first field has a value

    - by Syed Abdul Rahman
Right now, the End Date selection is disabled. I want to only enable this when a Start Date is selected. if( $('#datepicker1').val().length === 0) { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("disable"); } else { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("enable"); } This clearly does not work. If I insert value = 'random date' into my first input field, it works fine. I'm not too sure on how do this. Clearly not as easy as I had hoped. My other problem, or hope, is to disable the dates including and before the first selection. You know, pick Start Date, and every date before and said date for the next picker would be disabled. But that is a whole other problem.

  • Deserialization on client side in Domain Service

    - by ankit
I have 2 classes: Person and Contact. Person class has a property named ContactNumber which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as a DataMember for serialization. I have marked Contact type as a DataContract. On the client side I am able to get the values, but when I try to insert a value and then do submit, I get the following exception: Failed to deserialize change-set. Failed to convert value of type 'Dictionary`2' to type 'Contact' Stack Trace is: at System.Web.Ria.DataServiceSubmitRequest.GetChangeSet(DomainService domainService) at System.Web.Ria.DataServiceSubmitRequest.Invoke(DomainService domainService) at System.Web.Ria.DataService.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) Can anyone give me the solution ?

  • Java - JDBC alternatives

    - by Mike
Hello, this is just teorethical question. I use JDBC with my Java applications for using database (select, insert, update, delete or whatever). I make "manually" Java classes which will contain data from DB tables (attribute = db column). Than I make querys (ResultSet) and fill those classes with data. I am not sure, if this is the right way. But I've read lot of about JDO and another persistence solutions. Can you please recommend some? Which are modern? Will be used in the future? Some advantages of JDO over JDBC (in simple words). I've been able to google lot of this stuff, but opinions from the "first hand" are always best. Thank you for responses, Mike

  • MySQL locking problem

    - by teehoo
I have a simple setup of a set of writers and a set of readers working with a MySQL ISAM table. The writers are only inserting rows while the readers are only checking for new rows. OK, so I know that I don't need a lock in this situation, since I'm not modifying existing rows. However my Writers are accessing one more table that does need a lock. I piece of information seems irrelevant except for the following limitation stated in the MySQL documentation: A session that requires locks must acquire all the locks that it needs in a single LOCK TABLES statement. While the locks thus obtained are held, the session can access only the locked tables. For example, in the following sequence of statements, an error occurs for the attempt to access t2 because it was not locked in the LOCK TABLES statement: So to access the table I want to insert rows into, I NEED to lock it, which is causing me performance problems. Any suggestions of how to get around this?

  • mysql query - syntax error - cannot find out why

    - by Phil Jackson
Hi all, im taring my hair out over this one. A query is throwing an error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'FROM, SUBJECT, DATE, READ, MAIL ) VALUES ( 'EJackson', 'dfdf', '1270974101', 'fa' at line 1 I printed out the query to see what could be the problem: INSERT INTO db.tablename ( FROM, SUBJECT, DATE, READ, MAIL ) VALUES ( 'EJackson', 'dfdf', '1270974299', 'false', 'dfdsfdsfd' ) and finaly the structure consists of: CREATE TABLE db.tablename ( `ID` int(12) NOT NULL auto_increment, `FROM` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `SUBJECT` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `DATE` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `READ` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `MAIL` varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ID`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ; I cant find anything wrong. Any Help would be much appreciated. ( db.tablename is a replacement for the actual tablename )

  • Need to change ip address in app.config in runtime without runnning as admin

    - by djerry
Hey guys, There's a lot of post saying how to change info in the app.config and there are posts that say you shouldn't edit info in the app.config but store info in user folders. I understand these topics. But what i want is a combination of both. I have a wcf setup for my client in an app.config, which contains the endpoint address to which it should connect. When The server changes ip, or when a client is installed on a computer in another company, the user should be able to insert another ip-address which should be stored in the app.config. This cannot be stored in a file in appdata or something like that, as the client reads the info in the app.config on startup. How can i write (so remember the new ip-address) in the app.config when the client is installed in program files, the UAC is enabled and the program isn't run as an admin? Thanks in advance.

  • Join a single row in one table to n random rows in another

    - by Einar Egilsson
Is it possible to make a join in SQL server that joins each row from table A to n random rows in another? For example, say I have a Customer table, a Product table and an Order table. I want to join each customer to 5 random products and insert these rows into the order table. (And each customer should be joined to 5 random rows of his own, I don't want all customers joining to the same 5 rows). Is this possible? I'm using SQL Server 2005 and it's fine if the solution is specific to that. This is a weird requirement but I'm basically making a small data generator to generate some random data.

  • Rails and jQuery - how do you get server-side validation errors to your view after an ajax request

    - by adam
Ive searched this site but questions are usually regarding doing client-side validations or for different frameworks. I have a tasks list whose items can be edited inline. Upon submitting the inline edit form the item is updated all thanks to jQuery, ajax and rails. But I want to handle bad input from the user. HTML requests redisplay the view and errors are displayed thanks to rails helpers. But how do I insert that information after an ajax call? Heres my update method in my controller def update @task = Task.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| if @task.update_attributes(params[:task]) flash[:notice] = 'Task was successfully updated.' format.html { redirect_to(@task) } format.xml { head :ok } format.js else format.html { render :action => "edit" } format.xml { render :xml => @task.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } #format.js ...hmmm... either go to js.erb file or do stuff inline end end end

  • Merge overlapping date intervals

    - by leoinfo
Is there a better way of merging overlapping date intervals? The solution I came up with is so simple that now I wonder if someone else has a better idea of how this could be done. /***** DATA EXAMPLE *****/ DECLARE @T TABLE (d1 DATETIME, d2 DATETIME) INSERT INTO @T (d1, d2) SELECT '2010-01-01','2010-03-31' UNION SELECT '2010-04-01','2010-05-31' UNION SELECT '2010-06-15','2010-06-25' UNION SELECT '2010-06-26','2010-07-10' UNION SELECT '2010-08-01','2010-08-05' UNION SELECT '2010-08-01','2010-08-09' UNION SELECT '2010-08-02','2010-08-07' UNION SELECT '2010-08-08','2010-08-08' UNION SELECT '2010-08-09','2010-08-12' UNION SELECT '2010-07-04','2010-08-16' UNION SELECT '2010-11-01','2010-12-31' UNION SELECT '2010-03-01','2010-06-13' /***** INTERVAL ANALYSIS *****/ WHILE (1=1) BEGIN UPDATE t1 SET t1.d2 = t2.d2 FROM @T AS t1 INNER JOIN @T AS t2 ON DATEADD(day, 1, t1.d2) BETWEEN t2.d1 AND t2.d2 -- AND t1.d2 <= t2.d2 /***** this condition is useless *****/ IF @@ROWCOUNT = 0 BREAK END /***** RESULT *****/ SELECT StartDate = MIN(d1) , EndDate = d2 FROM @T GROUP BY d2 ORDER BY StartDate, EndDate /***** OUTPUT *****/ /***** StartDate EndDate 2010-01-01 2010-06-13 2010-06-15 2010-08-16 2010-11-01 2010-12-31 *****/ EDIT: I realized that the t1.d2 <= t2.d2 condition is not really useful.

  • App logicstics & changes due to scope creep

    - by Kevin Brown
I started an app that was initially a testing platform--user management, and managers that can view their employees tests. Recently, functionality has been extended (not built yet) to allow users to complete a test in place of an employee--basically adding a record, but no user. I have three tables in use for this: users(contains user info for login/security), profiles (all personal info: address, height, etc.), and survey (contains survey answers for user). How do I extend my application to encompass this functionality with minimal change to the structure? I assume that the best way to do this would be to insert records to the tables profiles and survey, and have no username/password/email? There MUST be a user_id associated b/c the tables are linked through the user_ids...

  • Consing lists with user-defined type in Haskell

    - by user1319603
I have this type I defined myself: data Item = Book String String String Int -- Title, Author, Year, Qty | Movie String String String Int -- Title, Director, Year, Qty | CD String String String Int deriving Show -- Title, Artist, Year, Qty I've created an empty list all_Items = [] With the following function I am trying to insert a new book of type Item (Book) into the all_Items addBook all_Items = do putStrLn "Enter the title of the book" tit <- getLine putStrLn "Enter the author of the book" aut <- getLine putStrLn "Enter the year this book was published" yr <- getLine putStrLn "Enter quantity of copies for this item in the inventory" qty <- getLine Book tit aut yr (read qty::Int):all_Items return(all_Items) I however am receiving this error: Couldn't match expected type `IO a0' with actual type `[a1]' The error points to the line where I am using the consing operator to add the new book to the list. I can gather that it is a type error but I can't figure out what it is that I am doing wrong and how to fix it. Thanks in Advance!

  • MongoDB efficient dealing with embedded documents

    - by Sebastian Nowak
I have serious trouble finding anything useful in Mongo documentation about dealing with embedded documents. Let's say I have a following schema: { _id: ObjectId, ... data: [ { _childId: ObjectId // let's use custom name so we can distinguish them ... } ] } What's the most efficient way to remove everything inside data for particular _id? What's the most efficient way to remove embedded document with particular _childId inside given _id? What's the performance here, can _childId be indexed in order to achieve logarithmic (or similar) complexity instead of linear lookup? If so, how? What's the most efficient way to insert a lot of (let's say a 1000) documents into data for given _id? And like above, can we get O(n log n) or similar complexity with proper indexing? What's the most efficient way to get the count of documents inside data for given _id?

  • How to optimize this user ranking query

    - by James Simpson
I have 2 databases (users, userRankings) for a system that needs to have rankings updated every 10 minutes. I use the following code to update these rankings which works fairly well, but there is still a full table scan involved which slows things down with a few hundred thousand users. mysql_query("TRUNCATE TABLE userRankings"); mysql_query("INSERT INTO userRankings (userid) SELECT id FROM users ORDER BY score DESC"); mysql_query("UPDATE users a, userRankings b SET a.rank = b.rank WHERE a.id = b.userid"); In the userRankings table, rank is the primary key and userid is an index. Both tables are MyISAM (I've wondered if it might be beneficial to make userRankings InnoDB).

  • custom DB logging using enterprise library 4.1

    - by Rohit
We have to create a historical log of all the changed entities. we have defined our custom tables for this purpose. I have to incorporate this tables in Enterprise library logging block and do logging in these tables. I need to write a SP to insert values to these tables. Till now, what i have got from google is that i have to create a listener inheriting from CustomTraceListener and give my implementation of WriteMessage. What i need to know is,how will i plug my tables and SP in Enterprise library logging block.

  • Pointer-based binary heap implementation

    - by Derek Chiang
Is it even possible to implement a binary heap using pointers rather than an array? I have searched around the internet (including SO) and no answer can be found. The main problem here is that, how do you keep track of the last pointer? When you insert X into the heap, you place X at the last pointer and then bubble it up. Now, where does the last pointer point to? And also, what happens when you want to remove the root? You exchange the root with the last element, and then bubble the new root down. Now, how do you know what's the new "last element" that you need when you remove root again?

  • How Implement a system to determine if a milestone has been reached

    - by Luc M
    I have a table named stats player_id team_id match_date goal assist` 1 8 2010-01-01 1 1 1 8 2010-01-01 2 0 1 9 2010-01-01 0 5 ... I would like to know when a player reach a milestone (eg 100 goals, 100 assists, 500 goals...) I would like to know also when a team reach a milestone. I want to know which player or team reach 100 goals first, second, third... I thought to use triggers with tables to accumulate the totals. Table player_accumulator (and team_accumulator) table would be player_id total_goals total_assists 1 3 6 team_id total_goals total_assists 8 3 1 9 0 5 Each time a row is inserted in stats table, a trigger will insert/update player_accumulator and team_accumulator tables. This trigger could also verify if player or team has reached a milestone in milestone table containing numbers milestone 100 500 1000 ... A table player_milestone would contains milestone reached by player: player_id stat milestone date 1 goal 100 2013-04-02 1 assist 100 2012-11-19 There is a better way to implements a "milestone" ? There is an easiest way without triggers ? I'm using PostgreSQL

  • A follow up on type coercion in C++, as it may be construed by type conversion

    - by David
This is a follow up to my previous question. Consider that I write a function with the following prototype: int a_function(Foo val); Where foo is believed to be a type defined unsigned int. This is unfortunately not verifiable for lack of documentation. So, someone comes along and uses a_function, but calls it with an unsigned int as an argument. Here the story takes a turn. Foo turns out to actually be a class, which can take an unsigned int as a single argument of unsigned int in an explicit constructor. Is it a standard and reliable behavior for the compiler to render the function call by doing a type conversion on the argument. I.e. is the compiler supposed to recognize the mismatch and insert the constructor? Or should I get a compile time error reporting the type mismatch.
