  Basically i want to create XMLDesigner kind of thing in Flex, using which user can add/edit components and properties of view/dashboard. i am storing view structure in a xml file. i parsed that file at runtime and display view. How to convert an object (having properties and sub-objects) to xml node (having attributes and elements) and add that xml to the existing xml file. so that next time when i parsed xml file i'll get that new component in my view/dashboard. for e.g, object structure of component in xml file : <view id="productView" label="Products"> <panel id="chartPanel" type="CHART" ChartType="Pie2D" title="Productwise Sales" x="215" y="80" width="425" height="240" showValues="0" > </panel> </view> Thanks in Advance.

• Unusual request URL in ASP.NET health monitoring event

  I’m seeing a rather strange occurrence in the request information section of an ASP.NET health monitoring email I hope someone can shed some light on. This is a publicly facing website which runs on infrastructure at an Indian hosting provider. Health monitoring is notifying us of server errors via automated email but every now and then the requested URL appears as a totally different website. For example: Request information: Request URL: http://www.baidu.com/Default.aspx Request path: /Default.aspx User host address: 221.13.128.175 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Obviously the site in question is not Baidu and obviously this attribute is not the referrer either; the “Request URL” value is the path which has generated the error. The IP address is located in Beijing (coincidental given the Baidu address?) and in this instance it looks like the SQL server backend was not accessible (I haven't included the entire error message for security's sake). What would cause the request URL attribute to be arbitrarily changed to that of another site? I’ve never seen this occur in a health monitoring event before. Thanks!

• Flash vs. Ajax Abilities

  Hey everyone. I want to develop an application that does a bunch of cool stuff. The first thing that I need in it is to get information about the page a person is browsing. With that said, I need for example to know how long a user stayed in a page and where was the scrollbar. While getting that data, It's all saved to a database. The thing is, I prefer doing that in Flash [although I have no experience in it] over Ajax since I want to hide the code - which as far as I know not possible in Javascript/Ajax. So, can I do all that in Flash? - Read the content of the page, get the status of the scroll bar.. Plus, I then need to go threw the gathered information that is saved in the database. Since there could be many calculations i thought C++ .Net is better than PHP [which I know better]. Is that all possible or am I just crazy? :) Thanks ahead.

  Here is my scenario, I'm creating a dynamic query using a select statement which uses functions to generate the query. I am storing it into a variable and running it using exec. i.e. declare @dsql nvarchar(max) set @dsql = '' select @dsql = @dsql + dbo.getDynmicQuery(column1, column2) from Table1 exec(@dsql) Now it produces the many errors in this scenario, like 'Incorrect syntax near ','' and 'Case expressions may only be nested to level 10.' But if i take the text from @dsql and assign it a variable manually like: declare @dsql nvarchar(max) set @dsql = '' set @dsql = N'<Dynamic query text>' exec(@dsql) it runs and generates the result, what could be the reason for that ?? • R: dev.copy2pdf, multiple graphic devices to a single file, how to append to file?

  Hi everybody, I have a script that makes barplots, and opens a new window when 6 barplots have been written to the screen and keeps opening new graphic devices whenever necessary. Depending on the input, this leaves me with a potential large number of openened windows (graphic devices) which I would like to write to a single PDF file. Considering my Perl background, I decided to iterate over the different graphics devices, printing them out one by one. I would like to keep appending to a single PDF file, but I do not know how to do this, or if this is even possible. I would like to avoid looping in R. :) The code I use: for (i in 1:length(dev.list()) { dev.set(which = dev.list()[i] dev.copy2pdf(device = quartz, file = "/Users/Tim/Desktop/R/Filename.pdf") } However, this is not working as it will overwrite the file each time. Now is there an append function in R, like there is in Perl. Which allows me to keep adding pages to the existing pdf file? Or is there a way to contain the information in a graphic window to a object, and keep adding new graphic devices to this object and finally print the whole thing to a file? Other possible solutions I thought about: writing different pdf files, combining them after creation (perhaps even possible in R, with the right libraries installed?) copying the information in all different windows to one big graphic device and then print this to a pdf file.

• How do I make a jQuery POST function open the new page?

  I know that a submit button in HTML can submit a form which opens the target page, but how do I cause a jQuery ajax call POST information to a new page and display the new page. I am submitting information that is gathered by clicking elements (which toggle a new class) and then all items with this new class are added to an array and POSTed to a new page. • Before data is entered, is there a way to make a grouped table graphic placeholder?

  I have a grouped table with 3 sections, each section with a title. The 1st and 3rd sections always have only 1 row of information so before any user data is entered, I just put some words like "Enter Data Here..." as placeholder text. This text is edited (replaced) by the user with their own actual data. No problem. The 2nd section however will contain several rows of information entered by user and I'd prefer not to enter placeholder data in row 0, having the user Edit the first row of data then Add subsequent rows. If the numberOfRowsInSection is set to 0, the title for the 3rd section comes close to the title for the 2nd section and it looks ugly. The best that I could come with, and I don't know to do it, is to have a fake graphic placeholder on the striped background (between the 2nd and third titles) that looks like a single row in the 2nd section, put "Enter Data Here..." text in the graphic, and then the first row of actual data entered and all subsequent rows will cover it up. Can anyone tell me how to do this or offer a better suggestion. Thanks.

  Hello, Sometimes, when using Java reflection or some special storing operation into Object, you end up with unchecked warnings. I got used to it and when I can't do anything about it, I document why one call is unchecked and why it should be considered as safe. But, for the first time, I've got an error about a unchecked call. This function : public <K,V extends SomeClass & SomeOtherClass<K>> void doSomethingWithSomeMap (Map<K,V> map, V data); I thought that calling it this way : Map someMap = ...; SomeClass someData = ...; doSomethingWithSomeMap(someMap, someData); would give me an unchecked call warning. Jikes does a warning, but javac gives me an error : Error: doSomethingWithSomeMap(java.util.Map,V) in SomeClass cannot be applied to (java.util.Map,SomeClass) Any way to force it to compile with a warning? • Creating a Stack Overflow notifier

  I could not find a Stack Overflow notifier Android app so I am planning on making one. I hope that my app will serve a similar purpose as the Stack Overflow Notifier Chrome extension. This will be my first Android app so I am still unfamiliar with the platform. My main concern when creating this app is, what is the proper way to access the user's Recent Activity page? I thought of two different approaches but I'm not sure how to implement either one: Make the user login to Stack Overflow through the Browser application or an embedded browser and scrape their recent activity page occasionally for updates. Ask the user for their username and password and forward this information to Stack Overflow for authentication, storing cookies somehow to keep the session active. I think Astrid uses something similar to the first approach, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet from skimming their code. What is the correct way to handle a notification application like this that requires session management?

  I'm trying to create a spam filter in Java using the Bayesian algorithm. I use a text file that contains email messages and split the tokens using regex, storing these values into a hashmap. My problem is, with regex, the email addresses are split so instead of: [email protected] regex causes the token to be: john smith example The same holds true for ip addresses, so for example, instead of: 192.55.34.322 regex splits the tokens to be: 192 55 34 322 So does anybody know of a way that I could read the email messages and store their contents as is?

  I have been using my website (ASP.NET MVC) in visual studio but now I want to host it on my server. I published from visual studio onto the network share to be used. The server is running Windows Home Server, IIS 6 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (express). In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I've attached the database and made sure that the user IUSR_SERVER is owner of the db. I also made sure that the user Network Service has access. The Web Site is configured in IIS to run anonymously as IUSR_SERVER. I have granted write and read access to IUSR_SERVER as well as Network Service and made sure that nothing is read only. The web.config has this connectionstring: <connectionStrings> <remove name="ApplicationServices" /> <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=MyDatebase" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> However, I cannot browse my web site. • Browser back button restores empty fields

  I have a web page x.php (in a password protected area of my web site) which has a form and a button which uses the POST method to send the form data and opens x.php#abc. This works pretty well. However, if the users decides to navigate back in Internet Explorer 7, all the fields in the original x.php get cleared and everything must be typed in again. I cannot save the posted information in a session and I am trying to understand how I can get IE7 to behave the way I want. I've searched the web and found answers which suggest that the HTTP header should contain explicit caching information. Currently, I've tried this : session_name("FOO"); session_start(); header("Pragma: public"); header("Expires: Fri, 7 Nov 2008 23:00:00 GMT"); header("Cache-Control: public, max-age=3600, must-revalidate"); header("Last-Modified: Thu, 30 Oct 2008 17:00:00 GMT"); and variations thereof. Without success. Looking at the returned headers with a tool such as WireShark shows me that Apache is indeed honouring my headers. So my question is: what am I doing wrong?

• Having trouble with extension methods for byte arrays

  I'm working with a device that sends back an image, and when I request an image, there is some undocumented information that comes before the image data. I was only able to realize this by looking through the binary data and identifying the image header information inside. I've been able to make everything work fine by writing a method that takes a byte[] and returns another byte[] with all of this preamble "stuff" removed. However, what I really want is an extension method so I can write image_buffer.RemoveUpToByteArray(new byte[] { 0x42, 0x4D }); instead of byte[] new_buffer = RemoveUpToByteArray( image_buffer, new byte[] { 0x42, 0x4D }); I first tried to write it like everywhere else I've seen online: public static class MyExtensionMethods { public static void RemoveUpToByteArray(this byte[] buffer, byte[] header) { ... } } but then I get an error complaining that there isn't an extension method where the first parameter is a System.Array. Weird, everyone else seems to do it this way, but okay: public static class MyExtensionMethods { public static void RemoveUpToByteArray(this Array buffer, byte[] header) { ... } } Great, that takes now, but still doesn't compile. It doesn't compile because Array is an abstract class and my existing code that gets called after calling RemoveUpToByteArray used to work on byte arrays. I could rewrite my subsequent code to work with Array, but I am curious -- what am I doing wrong that prevents me from just using byte[] as the first parameter in my extension method?

• StackOverFlowException - but oviously NO recursion/endless loop

  Hi there, I'm now blocked by this problem the entire day, read thousands of google results, but nothing seems to reflect my problem or even come near to it... i hope any of you has a push into the right direction for me. I wrote a client-server-application (so more like 2 applications) - the client collects data about his system, as well as a screenshot, serializes all this into a XML stream (the picture as a byte[]-array]) and sends this to the server in regular intervals. The server receives the stream (via tcp), deserializes the xml to an information-object and shows the information on a windows form. This process is running stable for about 20-25 minutes at a submission interval of 3 seconds. When observing the memory usage there's nothing significant to see, also kinda stable. But after these 20-25 mins the server throws a StackOverflowException at the point where it deserializes the tcp-stream, especially when setting the Image property from the byte[]-array. I have one extra database which has one table storing the names of the mentioned databases. So what I need to do is to iterate over those databases name and actually "switch" to each one (use [dbname]) and execute a T-SQL script. Am I clear? Let me give you an example (simplified from the real one): CREATE TABLE DatabaseNames ( Id int, Name varchar(50) ) INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseA' INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseB' INSERT INTO DatabaseNames SELECT 'DatabaseC' Assume that DatabaseA, DatabaseB and DatabaseC are real existing databases. So let's say I need to create a new SP on those DBs. I need some script that loops over those databases and executes the T-SQL script I specify (maybe stored on a varchar variable or wherever). • Cannot connect Linux XAMPP PHP to SQL Server database.

  I've searched many sites without success. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.3a on Ubuntu 9.1. I have used the methods found at http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/connect_mssql_database.php, they all fail. I am able to "connect" with a linked database through MS Access, however, that is not an acceptable solution as not all users will have Access. The first method (at webcheatsheet) uses mssql_connect, et.al. but I get this error from the mssql_connect() call: Warning: mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server: [my server] in [my code] [my server] is the server address, I have used both the host name and the IP address. [my code] is a reference to the file and line number in my .php file. Is there a log file somewhere that would have more information about the failure, both on my machine and SQL Server? We do not have a bona-fide DBA, so I will need specific information to pass on if the issue seems to be on the server side. All assistance is appreciated, including RTFM when the location of the M is provided! Thanks

  Hi guys, I need a regular expression to parse a body of text. Basically assume this that we have text files and each of which contains random text but within the text there would be lines in the following formats - basically they are a format for denoting flight legs. eg: 13FEB2009 BDR7402 1000 UUBB 1020 UUWW FLT This line of text is always on one line The first word is a date in the format DDMMMYYYY Second word could be of any length and hold alphanumeric characters third word is the time in format HHMM - its always numeric fourth word is a location code - its almost always just alphabets but could also be alphanumeric fifth word is the arrival time in format HHMM - its always numeric sixth word is a location code - its almost always just alphabets but could also be alphanumeric Any words which follow on the same line are just definitions A text file may contain among lots of random text information one or more such lines of text. I need a way to be able to extract all this information i.e just these lines within a text file and store them with their integral parts separated as mentioned in an associative array so I have something like this: array('0'=>array('date'=>'', 'time-dept'=>'', 'flightcode'=>'',....)) I'm assuming regular expressions would be in order here. I'm using php for this - would appreciate the help guys :)

  I have a SharePoint 2010 site with a document library for storing Excel files. If someone is editing an Excel file (using stand-alone Excel, not Excel services), everyone else will be forced to open the file read-only until the first person is done editing. Is there a way around this? What I want is to allow two or more people to be able to edit the file at the same time. Also, I don't want people to overwrite each other. Instead, I'd like SharePoint to merge their changes. Is this possible in SharePoint 2010?

• When to use UserControl vs. Control in Silverlight?

  I'm just getting my feet wet in Silverlight, and don't really understand the differences and pros/cons of creating a UserControl vs. creating a Control for the same task (as in when you right click on a selection in Expression Blend, for instance). It seems like selecting "Make Into Control" just creates a new template for the base type you specify, whereas creating a UserControl creates a whole new base class. Is that correct? In this particular instance, I'm creating a custom text box control that only takes numbers, and divides itself into 3 sections, storing 3 values into separate properties as pictured below. In this particular case, which would be best? Update (Additional Question): Why can't I use Template Binding with a UserControl, but I can with a Control? That's one reason I thought that making a UserControl might not be the right decision.

• Doubts About Core Data NSManagedObject Deep Copy

  Hello everyone, I have a situation where I must copy one NSManagedObject from the main context into an editing context. It sounds unnecessary to most people as I have seen in similar situations described in Stackoverflow but I looks like I need it. In my app there are many views in a tab bar and every view handles different information that is related to the other views. I think I need multiple MOCs since the user may jump from tab to tab and leave unsaved changes in some tab but maybe it saves data in some other tab/view so if that happens the changes in the rest of the views are saved without user consent and in the worst case scenario makes the app crash. For adding new information I got away by using an adding MOC and then merging changes in both MOCs but for editing is not that easy. I saw a similar situation here in Stackoverflow but the app crashes since my data model doesn't seem to use NSMutableSet for the relationships (I don't think I have a many-to-many relationship, just one-to-many) I think it can be modified so I can retrieve the relationships as if they were attributes for (NSString *attr in relationships) { [cloned setValue:[source valueForKey:attr] forKey:attr]; } but I don't know how to merge the changes of the cloned and original objects. I think I could just delete the object from the main context, then merge both contexts and save changes in the main context but I don't know if is the right way to do it. I'm also concerned about database integrity since I'm not sure that the inverse relationships will keep the same reference to the cloned object as if it were the original one. Can some one please enlighten me about this?

• C# file write permission issue under "Program Files" folder

  Hello everyone, I am using inno setup to make a installation package for my application, and my application is written by C# + .Net 2.0 + VSTS 2008. Inno setup = http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php and I install my application under Program Files/Foo folder (Foo is my application name). My application is targeting to Windows Vista. The issue I found is my program cannot write to the folder Program Files/Foo. And I need the permission of write to this folder in order to save some configuration files. The strange thing I notice is the folder Program Files/Foo is marked as readonly and I have checked all folders under Program Files are marked with read only, such as Office. My questions are, Why all folders are marked as read only under Program Files? It means we should not write to individual application folders under Program Files? If not, where should we write information to disk like user last selected configuration information of an individual application? If we could write to individual application folders under Program Files, what is the solution? I do not want my application to Run As administrator to solve this issue, and if there are solution to write to this folder, I want to require minimal permission if possible. thanks in advance, George
