• What is Restful Routing?

  I have been searching pretty hard for info out on the net to explain exactly what Restful routing is but I haven't had any success. There are a lot of resources but not a who lot make sense to me. I'm familiar with Ruby On Rails's routing system and well as how Code Igniter and PhpCake route things but is there more to it than having a centralized location where you give out routes based on a directory structure? Like this: controller/action/id/ Admin/editUser/22 I'd appreciate any help with this, it's had me baffled for months. I just thought of putting it on SO. Thanks

  in my pre_controller hook i have this code for doctrine: $manager = Doctrine_Manager::getInstance(); $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection($db[$active_group][‘dsn’]); then in my controller i have this code to use doctrine connection i’ve created: $conn-export-createTable(‘test’, array(‘name’ = array(‘type’ = ‘string’))); $conn-execute(‘INSERT INTO test (name) VALUES (?)’, array(‘jwage’)); but $conn is undefined so it wont work. if i put the code in the pre_controller hook it will work. how can i make variables i declare in hooks available for all controllers so that i dont have to create a new connection all the time?

• Re-ordering a collection of UIView's based on their CGPoint

  Hi all, I have a NSMutableArray that holds a collection of UIViewControllers Amongst other properties and methods an instance of each of the viewControllers are placed in a parent view The user will place these objects individually when desired to. So essentially I use - (void)addSubview:(UIView *)view when a new view is added to the parent view controller. Because the UI is isometric it's made things a tad more complicated What I am trying to do is re-order the views based on their co-ordinate position, so items higher up the parent UIView frame is indexed lower then views lower in the parent UIview frame. And items that are on the left side of the view are positioned at a higher index to those on the right I think the solution may have to do with re-ordering the NSMutableArray but how can I compare the CGpoints? Do I need to compare the x and y separately?

• In Ruby on Rails Routing I Would Like to Use Dash `-` Instead of Underscore `_`

  I would like all the URLs for my web applications to use dash - instead of underscore _ for word separators. I'm surprised about a couple of things really: Google et al. continue to distinguish them. That RoR doesn't have a simple global configuration parameter to map - to _ in the routing. Or does it? I found a few questions here and elsewhere, but the best solution I've seen is to use :as or a named route. That's quite annoying. So I'm thinking of modifying the Rails routing to check for that global config and change - to _ before dispatching to a controller action. But before I do that, I'm hoping someone can save me the trouble! Thanks in advance for any help, or even confirmation that my approach makes sense. I'd submit it back. BTW, I'm currently on 2.3.8, but hope to migrate to 3 soon.

• In which layer should I join 2 entities together?

  I use Spring MVC and a regular JDBC. I've just learned that I should separate business process into layers which are presentation layer, controller layer, service layer, and repository/DAO layer. Now suppose that I have an Entity called Person that can have multiple Jobs. Job itself is another entity which have its own properties. From what I gathered, the repository layer only manages one entity. Now I have one entity that contains another entity. Where do I "join" them? The service layer? Suppose I want to get a person whose job isn't known yet (lazy loading). But the system might ask what the job of that particular person is later on. What is the role of each layer in this case? Please let me know if I need to add any detail into this question.

  Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

  Basically, I need to call a method in my AppDelegate from one of my view controller classes. Currently, I'm doing the following: myAppDelegate *appDelegate = (myAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate doMethod]; And including the myAppDelegate.h at the top of the .m file of the class: #import "myAppDelegate.h" When I run it, everything works... But I get the following warning: warning 'myAppDelegate' may not respond to '-doMethod' Is there another way that I should reference the app delegate? Thanks for any help in advance.

  I am developing a personal blog in ASP.NET MVC 1.0. This blog application has Views like "Insert Post", "Edit Post", etc. I need to post a string containing HTML back to the appropriate controller method. That HTML value is being posted from a textarea. I've read that it's necessary to disable ValidateRequest directly on the page with the attribute ValidateRequest = "false" or in the web.config file. When I insert an HTML value in my textarea, I get always the error of 'potential value dangerous'. How can I use ValidateRequest to allow the form element containing HTML values to be posted?

• ivar is inside two blocks

  I have an ivar like this declared on interface: BOOL controllerOK; I have to use this ivar inside a block that resides itself in a block. Something like myBlockl = ^(){ [self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:^(){ if (controllerOK) [self doStuff]; }]; }; If I try to do that, I see an error capturing self strongly in this block is likely to lead to a retain cycle for the if (controllerOK) line. This does not appear to be one of those blocks problems that you create another variable using __unsafe_unretained before the block starts. First because this instruction cannot be used with a BOOL and second because the ivar controllerOK has to be tested on runtime inside the block. Another problem is that the block itself is declared on the interface, so it will be used outside the context where it is being created. How do I solve that?

In the controller, I created a collection called @campaigns.   My view is not a strongly typed view and I need to iterate through Request Params in the controller action to determine the values posted. Is there a better way to iterate through the nameValueCollection AllKeys? I am currently looping through the Request Params and setting values appropriately. foreach (var key in Request.Params.AllKeys) { if (key.Equals("CustomerId")) queryObject.CustomerId = Request.Params[key]; else if (key.Equals("OrderId")) queryObject.OrderId= Request.Params[key]; //and so on } I see a considerable amount of repetition in this code. I have baked the model lecturer (file) I have baked the controller lecturers_controller (file) I have baked the view lecturers (folder) I need to override the default layout but I want to add YUI 3 accordion sothat the table name lecturers will be on top, after clicking on the top division it will slidedown and will show me the column name of lecturer table. Is there anyone who could suggest me how to integrate the YUI 3 accordion - Do I have to write a helper for this or simply after copying the YUI 3 library I could code this in the default.ctp file. I am really confused as I could hardly get a full tutorial on this topic. Thank you in advance ................

• Zend Framework: My custom form filter is not filtering!

  So I have a form that is using a custom filter (which is really just a copy of Zend_Filter_Null). • Convert long number as string in the serialization

  I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute.   Let's say you have two kinds, Message and Contact, related by a db.ListProperty of keys on Message. A user creates a message, adds some contacts as recipients, and emails the message. Later, the user deletes one of the contact entities that was a recipient of the message. Our application should delete the appropriate Contact entity, but we want to preserve the original recipient list for the message that was sent for the user's records. In essence, we want a snapshot of the message entity at the time it was sent. If we naively delete the contact entity, though, we lose snapshot integrity; if not, we are left with an invalid key. • Gesture recognizer for mouse down and up in iPhone SDK

  I want to catch both mouse down and mouse up using gesture recognizer. However, when the mouse down is caught, mouse up is never caught. But where can I add this view? if add the subview to the self.view, it will move up with the self.view on the top of the keyboard, not cover. I'm a beginner about IOS, I have no idea about it, and have searched, but got nothing about this. another question, IF when the toolbar at the bottom, I aslo want to click the left button on it to show the view(the animation and frame both are the same as the keyboard), how can I do ?   Is there a way in Objective-C to store an object/class in a variable to be passed to alloc/init somewhere else? For example: UIViewController = foo foo *bar = [[foo alloc] init] I'm trying to create a system to dynamically create navigation buttons in a separate class based on the current view controller. I can pass 'self' to the method, but the variable that results does not allow me to alloc/init. I could always import the .h file directly, but ideally I would like to make reusing the code as simple as possible. Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way?

• Human readable URL causes a problem in Ruby on Rails

  I have a basic CRUD with "Company" model. To make the company name show up, I did def to_param name.parameterize end Then I accessed http://localhost:3000/companies/american-express which runs show action in the companies controller. Obviously this doesn't work because the show method is as following: def show @company = Company.find_by_id(params[:id]) end The params[:id] is american-express. This string is not stored anywhere. Do I need to store the short string (i.e., "american-express") in the database when I save the record? Or is there any way to retrieve the company data without saving the string in the database?

• MVC Serve audio files while preventing direct linking using HttpResponseBase

  I need to be able to serve audio files to an mvc app while preventing direct access. Ideally the page would render with a player control so the user can start/stop the audio linked to the database record (audio files are in a folder not the db). I have a controller action like this: Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = "audio/wav"; Response.TransmitFile(audioFilename); Response.End(); return Response; and the view uses the RenderAction method <% Html.RenderAction("ServeAudioFile"); %> this works but it won't display inline on the existing view, it opens a new page with just the media control. Am I totally barking up the wrong tree or is there a way to embed the response in the existing view? works exactly as I would like but I can't control access to the file.

  Hi iOS gurus, I'm a little bit confused about UITableViewController... As far as I concern they are typically the delegate and datasource of the UITableView (although it can be made such that they are different). However in some cases, like when embedding a UITableViewController in a UITabBarViewController in Interface Builder, we initiate our table view controller in IB. Therefore in my understanding, the default initialiser is being called. But in this case, I have this piece of code: @interface Settings : UITableViewController { } And in the IB I see that the delegate and datasource of the UITableView is hooked up to this class. My question is, why is it that we don't need to explicitly say that it is following: @interface Settings : UITableViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> { } And in the .m file: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [tableView setDelegate:self]; [tableView setDataSource:self]; } I have indeed stumbled upon some cases where I have to explicitly code the above a few times to make something work. Although it is still a mystery for me as of why it is needed...

Can anyone please tell me, How to get the HWND of a buttons/combobox/etc (not normal buttons in a window) if I know (only) the Id of it ? How to obtain the HBITMAP if I know the id of the resource ? How to set the bitmap to the controller ? SendDlgItemMessageW(hWnd, nId, BM_SETIMAGE, IMAGE_BITMAP, (LPARAM)hBitmap); This isn't working for toolbars, isn't it ?
