  • What is the lightest way to make a huge chess-like grid?

    - by Sotkra
    Hey there I'm working on a browser-game and I can't help but wonder about what's the lightest way to make the grid/board on which the game takes place. Right now, as a mere sample, I'll show you this: http://sotkra.com/game/ Now, as the grid gets bigger and bigger, the table and its td's create a very heavy filepage which in turn...sucks in more resources from the browser engine and computer. So, is a table with td's the most lightweight way to craft a huge grid-like board or is there something lighter that you recommend? Cheers Sotkra

  • Add function to existing JQuery plugin

    - by kralco626
    Is it possible to add a function to a plugin without modifying the actual plugin? Can I do something like this in my site's js file? $.fn.Watermark.Refresh = function() { $.Watermark.HideAll(); $.Watermark.ShowAll(); } or (function($){ $.fn.Watermark.Refresh = function() { $.Watermark.HideAll(); $.Watermark.ShowAll(); }; })(jQuery); neither worked, the first says $ is undefined, the second that jQuery is undefined... ideas? Solution: Either method works, just include the jquery file before the site js file.

  • JS - Why is this hidden div not showing in IE?

    - by Dodi300
    Hello. I've made a page which should show a div when the user clicks on a input text box. The div will contain more information about the required input, etc. The page works fine on FireFox and the div shows, but when using IE the div just doesn't show. It seems like I've tried everything and nothing has worked so far. This is the page. Maybe you could look at the source and see what I'm doing wrong? If you need me to upload the source as a text file, I can do that. Thanks for the help!

  • Windows Media Player on top other DIV

    - by HP
    I have an embed window media player which is always on top of other DIV tags. I used wmode = opaque; WindowlessVideo = -1 but it does not help. Does anyone know how to make it appear below a certain element of the page. <object type="application/x-oleobject" classid="CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6" codebase= "http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701" width="345" height="45"><param name="URL" value= "http://nhacso.net/Music/nghe_song.aspx?id=100004995" /> <param name="EnableContextMenu" value="0" /> <param name="uiMode" value="full" /> <param name="stretchToFit" value="True" /> <param name="AnimationAtStart" value="false" /> <param name="playcount" value="10" /> <param name="Volume" value="100" /> <param name="autostart" value="0" /> <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> <param name="WindowlessVideo" value="-1" /> <embed src="http://nhacso.net/Music/nghe_song.aspx?id=100004995" type="application/x-mplayer2" width="345" height="45" align= "center" border="0" autostart="0" transparentatstart="1" animationatstart="1" showcontrols="true" showaudiocontrols="1" showpositioncontrols="0" enablecontextmenu="0" autosize="0" showstatusbar="1" displaysize="false" playcount="10" wmode="opaque" windowlessvideo="-1" /></object> Thanks

  • converting a form from text to textarea

    - by David Cook
    I have a form created to pull PHP values into my database. I created the form with all type="text" constructions. What follows is the code that used to set up the input of data and confirmed that it is functional. <label>About Me: <input type="text" name="BIO_info"/></label> I converted the input to a textarea and adjusted some parameters for proper display. Unfortunately, it has broken the ability for the script to function. What follows is the code I wrote to convert and store from a text area input. <label for="BIO_info" style=" margin-bottom: 500px; margin-top: 2000px; ">About Me: <textarea name="BIO_info" rows="20" cols="60" style="resize: none; overflow-y: hidden;vertical-align:middle;"></textarea> <p> I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • Image in table cell doesn't scale down: using ie8/7

    - by monks1975
    Can anyone help me troubleshoot my website? http://www.andrewstonyer.co.uk/test/ My problem: On IE8/7 if you click on a thumbnail (only 'Pulse' and 'Time Within The Hour' are wired in right now) an overlay appears with detail of that piece. What should happen, and does in Gecko/Webkit, is that the overlay contains a table with a heading, a scaled, centered image, and a nav menu. There is a toggle for text, which pushes up the image cell and makes the image smaller, keeping proportion. I know the overlay looks like ass right now- those are just placeholder colours :) On IE, the image doesn't fit perfectly in the table cell, which means that everything is pushed down outside the window. I can't see the nav menu. It appears to render the image at actual pixel size (in the CSS, the img class element is set to 100% height). The text cell is toggled with jquery, when toggled on in IE, it doesn't appear to 'squeeze' the above cell, which is what I want to happen. Could any experts help? Regards, Jon

  • HREF link that targets nothing, does not want to use hash or void(0)

    - by Mattis
    I have a link that I want to be able to click to trigger a piece of jQuery code. Currently I have <a href="#" id="foo">Link</a> and $('#foo').click(function(){ // Do stuff }); which works well. But, I have always hated using hash in this way. The page flickers and the hash is added to the page url. One alternative is to use <a href="javascript:void(0);" id="foo">Link</a> but I also dislike seeing that piece of code in the browser status bar. It looks tacky. What I'd rather have is an explanatory javascript placeholder that does nothing, like <a href="javascript:zoom();" id="foo">Link</a> which actually works, but throws an ReferenceError in the javascript console since there are no such function. What's the minimum definition of a function that does nothing? Are there any other alternatives? Should I just skip the link and use something like <span id="foo" style="cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;">Link</span> instead?

  • How do I get more separation between the end of the 1st div and the start of the 2nd div?

    - by user3075987
    I'm trying to get the 2nd div (the picture of the orange and copy) to go below the 1st div (the picture of the pear and copy), but see how the Orange copy is going up into the Pear copy. How can I have the Orange copy start below the Pear picture? Here's my jsfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/huskydawgs/g8mbgr1e/4/ Here's my code: <div class="alignleft"> <p><img alt="Pear" src="http://eofdreams.com/data_images/dreams/pear/pear-01.jpg" width="144" height="150" /></p> The pear is native to coastal and mildly temperate regions of the Old World, from western Europe and north Africa east right across Asia. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching 10–17 metres (33–56 ft) tall, often with a tall, narrow crown; a few species are shrubby. The fruit is composed of the receptacle or upper end of the flower-stalk (the so-called calyx tube) greatly dilated. Enclosed within its cellular flesh is the true fruit: five cartilaginous carpels, known colloquially as the "core". From the upper rim of the receptacle are given off the five sepals[vague], the five petals, and the very numerous stamens. In ancient Egypt, artists used an orange mineral pigment called realgar for tomb paintings, as well as other uses. It was also used later by Medieval artists for the colouring of manuscripts. Pigments were also made in ancient times from a mineral known as orpiment. Orpiment was an important item of trade in the Roman Empire and was used as a medicine in China although it contains arsenic and is highly toxic. It was also used as a fly poison and to poison arrows. Because of its yellow-orange colour, it was also a favourite with alchemists searching for a way to make gold, both in China and the West. The pineapple is a herbaceous perennial which grows to 1.0 to 1.5 meters (3.3 to 4.9 ft) tall, although sometimes it can be taller. In appearance, the plant itself has a short, stocky stem with tough, waxy leaves. When creating its fruit, it usually produces up to 200 flowers, although some large-fruited cultivars can exceed this. Once it flowers, the individual fruits of the flowers join together to create what is commonly referred to as a pineapple. After the first fruit is produced, side shoots (called 'suckers' by commercial growers) are produced in the leaf axils of the main stem. These may be removed for propagation, or left to produce additional fruits on the original plant.[4] Commercially, suckers that appear around the base are cultivated. It has 30 or more long, narrow, fleshy, trough-shaped leaves with sharp spines along the margins that are 30 to 100 centimeters (1.0 to 3.3 ft) long, surrounding a thick stem. In the first year of growth, the axis lengthens and thickens, bearing numerous leaves in close spirals. After 12 to 20 months, the stem grows into a spike-like inflorescence up to 15 cm (6 in) long with over 100 spirally arranged, trimerous flowers, each subtended by a bract. Flower colors vary, depending on variety, from lavender, through light purple to red. Here's my CSS: .alignleft { float: left; margin: 0px 30px 20px 0px; } .alignright { float: right; margin: 0px 0px 20px 30px; }

  • Is it possible to position an element relative to the border-box of its parent?

    - by Timwi
    Consider the following jsfiddle for reference: http://jsfiddle.net/apmmw2ma/ As you can see, the “inner” box (with the red border) is positioned relative to the outer’s padding-box: left:0 positions it just to the right of outer’s border, and top:100% appears to mean “100% of the content plus padding, but not the border”. Unfortunately, adding box-sizing: border-box to the outer div seems to have no effect. I want to position a child element directly below its parent’s border-box, i.e. the two borders should abut no matter how thick they are. Is this possible?

It does not need to use go to #c22 once refreshed but i am sure there is a more dependable way then window.location = window.location

  • RewriteRule to store thousands of files in subdirectories

    - by Brandon
    I have a website that will have millions of pages in a directory. I'd like to store those files on-disk in a bunch of subdirectories based on the first characters of the page name. For example http://mysite.com/hugedir/somefile.html would be stored in /var/www/html/hugedir/s/o/m/e/f/ile.html That is fairly trivial to do with a RewriteRule like so: RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.)(.)(.)(.)(.)(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}/{$2}/{$3}/{$4}/{$5}/$6.html RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.)(.)(.)(.)(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}/{$2}/{$3}/{$4}/{$5}.html RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.)(.)(.)(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}/{$2}/{$3}/{$4}.html RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.)(.)(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}/{$2}/{$3}.html RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.)(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}/{$2}.html RewriteRule ^hugedir/(.*).html /hugedir/{$1}.html However, the file name may contain hyphens or other non-standard characters and I'd really like to avoid having a directory named with a strange character. Ideally, I'd like to have a list of 'approved' characters and either eliminate or transform the unapproved characters to an underscore. Can anybody think of a way to do that? Or something else equivalent? Part of the requirement is that these be physical files on disk and it not be parsed with a scripting language.

  • Make text in a <div> wrap around a child element.

    - by John
    In Word you can place an image on a page and have the text flow nicely around it. I was wondering how far one can get towards this using CSS, noting that is has to work in IE6. I already have something sort of close using float, but the floated child-element still 'blocks' text above it. So it partially wraps. Is it possible to put a child div at some arbitrary position in the parent, and have text flow around it freely? The actual use-case here is to put illustrations inside the main content , where each illustration is implemented inside a child . I repeat, it has to work on IE6. And I don't want to get too involved in browser-specific hacks... floating the child at least works on IE6 with no tweaking. Currently I have like this: <div> <div class="illustration"> <img src="image1.png" /> <p>Illustration caption</p> </div> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua. Atvero eos et accusam et justo duo dolores et ea rebum. Stet clita kasd gubergren, no sea takimata sanctus est Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. </p> </div> div.illustration { float:right; border-top: 1px solid #505050; border-left: 1px solid #505050; border-right: 1px solid #505050; border-bottom: 1px solid #505050; margin-right:30px; margin-top:100px; text-align:center; padding:2px; background: #96C3FF; } div.illustration p { margin:0; font-size:small; font-style:italic; padding:0; }
