• Embedding wav files in AS3 Flash/Flex project?

  The Flash IDE is capable of embedding many types of uncompressed sound files, including wav, and offers optional compression when publishing. However, the [Embed] tag, only seems to allow embedding of mp3 files. Is it truly impossible to embed an uncompressed wav file, or am I missing some magic, undocumented mimeType? I was hoping for something like: [Embed source="../../audio/wibble.wav" mimeType="audio/wav"] ...but I get no transcoder registered for mimeType 'audio/wav' It's possible to embed wav or other format as an octet-stream and parse at runtime, but that's pretty heavy handed I think. I'm surprised that even though the Flash IDE can embed uncompressed sound data, [Embed] cannot, given that the swf spec can contain uncompressed sound data. Any takers?

  I have a USB "easy button"- is a USB cable attached to a large button. It appears as a keyboard to the computer. When I push the button, it sends the keys Start+R and then quickly types in a pre-configured URL. I am fairly certain that the company that produces these buttons sets the URL via some sort of software over USB. How could I reprogram the button myself? What sort of software would I need?   class << self attr_accessor :n, :totalX, :totalY end The syntax above is used for defining class instance variables. But when I think about what syntax implies, it doesn't make any sense to me, so I'm wondering if this type of syntax is used for any other types of definitions. My point of confusion here is this: class << self The append operator normally means "add what's on the right to the object on the left". But in the context of this block, how does that add up to "put the contents of this block into the definition of the class instance rather than the instance"? For the same reason I'm confused as to why in one context class << self can define class instance variables while in another it seems to create class variables such as here: class Point # Instance methods go here class << self # Class methods go here end end

  What is the actual difference between LR, SLR, and LALR parsers? I know that SLR and LALR are types of LR parsers, but what is the actual difference as far as their parsing tables are concerned? And how to show whether a grammar is LR, SLR, or LALR? For an LL grammar we just have to show that any cell of the parsing table should not contain multiple production rules. Any similar rules for LALR, SLR, and LR? For example, how can we show that the grammar S --> Aa | bAc | dc | bda A --> d is LALR(1) but not SLR(1)?

• Entity framework and many to many queries unusable?

  I'm trying EF out and I do a lot of filtering based on many to many relationships. For instance I have persons, locations and a personlocation table to link the two. I also have a role and personrole table. EDIT: Tables: Person (personid, name) Personlocation (personid, locationid) Location (locationid, description) Personrole (personid, roleid) Role (roleid, description) EF will give me persons, roles and location entities. EDIT: Since EF will NOT generate the personlocation and personrole entity types, they cannot be used in the query. How do I create a query to give me all the persons of a given location with a given role? In SQL the query would be select p.* from persons as p join personlocations as pl on p.personid=pl.personid join locations as l on pl.locationid=l.locationid join personroles as pr on p.personid=pr.personid join roles as r on pr.roleid=r.roleid where r.description='Student' and l.description='Amsterdam' I've looked, but I can't seem to find a simple solution.

One of the exercises is the following, however I do not really understand what it is asking to.... any smart java gurus out there that could explain this in more detail and simple words? Thanks Suppose that you have a binary file that contains numbers whos type is either int or double. You dont know the order of the numbers in the file, but their order is recorded in a string at the begining of the file. The string is composed of the letters i for int, and d for double, in the order of the types of the subsequent numbers. The string is written using the method writeUTF. For example the string "iddiiddd" indicated that the file contains eight values, as follows: one integer, followed by two doubles, followed by two integers, followed by three doubles. Read this binary file and create a new text file of the values written one to a line.

• upgrading to worpdress 3.5 erased all posts and pages, wiped database

  So I have upgraded to wordpress 3.5 and that seemed to have erased all posts and custom post types, media images, sliders etc' I have made a backup using both pressbackup and backupbuddy but when I try to restore the database (or everything). when it is done, if I look at the front end, everything is back and looks great but then when I go to the back end it says the database needs to be upgraded and doesn't let me bypass that. if i click ok it prompts the following message and after that everything is wiped again: WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_categories' doesn't exist] SELECT * FROM wp_categories ORDER BY cat_ID WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_post2cat' doesn't exist] SELECT post_id, category_id FROM wp_post2cat GROUP BY post_id, category_id WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_linkcategories' doesn't exist] SELECT cat_id, cat_name FROM wp_linkcategories WordPress database error: [Unknown column 'link_category' in 'field list'] SELECT link_id, link_category FROM wp_links please advise. • Create a thumbnail of a dwg in in a linux environment

  Creating a ruby on rails site that uses RMagick to create thumbnails for many types of images. RMagick cannot read dwg files however. I've tried a few things, looked into the Java library JDWGLib, which would probably allow me to write a converter, but it would be a total from the ground up solution, where I just need a thumbnail. Also considered using a viewer program to open the file in a remote X session and do a screen capture, however I'm not sure how I could ever guarantee that the viewer had completed opening when I took the screenshot. I'm not concerned with being able to manipulate the file other than to create the thumbnail. It is going to be used for commercial purposes, so any libraries used need to be compatible.

  I'm using Jongo with Play framework 2, java. I added some data into my MongoDB. {"_id" : ObjectId("538dafffbf6b562617252178"), ... } However, when I fetched the ObjectId from the database, it gave me like: de.undercouch.bson4jackson.types.ObjectId@484431ff instead of 538dafffbf6b562617252178. I don't quite understand how can I get the ObjectId value. • postgres - ERROR: syntax error at or near "COST"

  EDIT Taking COST 100 out made the command go through, however, I'm still unable to run my query because it yields this error: ERROR: function group_concat(character) does not exist HINT: No function matches the given name and argument types. You may need to add explicit type casts. • Objective-C: How to create a method that will return a UInt8 array from an int

  I need to create an Objective-C method that converts an int into a byte array. In this instance, I can't use NSArray as a return type, it must be an UInt8 array. I've written a simple method to do this, but it has errors during compile and tells me that I have incompatible return types. Here is the code snippet. • IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

  I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project. • Changing error message for datatype validation?

  Hey guys, I've a small question on ASP.NET MVC 2. I'm using Data Annotations on my Presentation Model and its model binder per default. But one step back, I want to do the most elementary thing: validation of the data type. Let's say I have an "int ID" on my model and want to edit the according entity in my view. If I enter something wrong like "foo", then I get a model error back, but the validation message is on English. I want to have this message in other languages, too. How can I do this? I remember that in MVC 1 I've written a custom model binder which checks the data types, but that's not what I want to do (at least not in MVC 2). Thus I hope there is a better way... • Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the shouldReloadTableForSearchString method when I enter

  I've been following Apple's TableSearch code example, but it's not working for me and I think I'm doing everything the same way they did it. The method below should be fired whenever the user types anything into the search box, but it never gets fired for me, just on the sample app. I have the appropriate @interface ContactsTableVC : UITableViewController { in the header file. I'm not sure what I'm missing or where else to look. My NSLog never gets called.   I had a doubt. Why,generics (in java or any other lang), works with the objects and not with primitive types ? For e.g Gen< Integer inum=new Gen< Integer(100); works fine , but Gen< int inums=new Gen< int(100); is not allowed. Thanks !

• What the performance impact of enabling WebSphere PMI

  I am currently looking at some JProfiler traces from our WebSphere-based application, and am noticing that a significant amount of CPU time is being spent in the class com.ibm.io.async.AsyncLibrary.getCompletionData2. I am guessing, but I am wondering whether this is PMI-related (and we do have this enabled). My knowledge of PMI is limited, as this is managed by another team. Is it expected that PMI can have this sort of impact? (If so) Is the only option to turn it off completely? Or are there some types of data capture that have a particularly high overhead?

• Mibble MIB Parser - extracting comments from the mib.

  I am using the Mibble MIB Parser to extract all simple data types from an MIB file. I've been successful until my attempt to extract comment text. Take the following module as an example: invBookList OBJECT-TYPE SYNTAX INTEGER { mobydick(1), -- call me ishmael paradiselost(2), -- aComment 1984(3), -- aComment solaris(4) -- aComment } MAX-ACCESS read-only STATUS current DESCRIPTION "A few Books for an example." ::= { invMasterList 43 } According to Mibble's API, the OBJECT-TYPE can be accessed by extracting an SnmpObjectType and then calling the appropriate getter method. Which I have done, and can successfully extract all of the text except the comments in the INTEGER syntax. I have tried calling getSyntax().getComment() on the SnmpObjectType, but always returns null. getSyntax() will extract the INTEGER syntax, e.g.: mobydick(1),paradiselist(2),1984(3),solaris(4) but unfortunately strips out the comments. Any one out there have experience with Mibble Parser who knows how to extract the comments? Many Thanks.

• What is the underlying reason for not being able to put arrays of pointers in unsafe structs in C#?

  If one could put an array of pointers to child structs inside unsafe structs in C# like one could in C, constructing complex data structures without the overhead of having one object per node would be a lot easier and less of a time sink, as well as syntactically cleaner and much more readable. Is there a deep architectural reason why fixed arrays inside unsafe structs are only allowed to be composed of "value types" and not pointers? I assume only having explicitly named pointers inside structs must be a deliberate decision to weaken the language, but I can't find any documentation about why this is so, or the reasoning for not allowing pointer arrays inside structs, since I would assume the garbage collector shouldn't care what is going on in structs marked as unsafe. Digital Mars' D handles structs and pointers elegantly in comparison, and I'm missing not being able to rapidly develop succinct data structures; by making references abstract in C# a lot of power seems to have been removed from the language, even though pointers are still there at least in a marketing sense. Maybe I'm wrong to expect languages to become more powerful at representing complex data structures efficiently over time.

Ideally I would like to perform assertions on the message but right now I'd be happy if the test just ran! Thanks

• How does Linq-to-Xml convert objects to strings?

  Linq-to-Xml contains lots of methods that allow you to add arbitrary objects to an xml tree. These objects are converted to strings by some means, but I can't seem to find the specification of how this occurs. The conversion I'm referring to is mentioned (but not specified) in MSDN. I happen to need this for javascript interop, but that doesn't much matter to the question. Linq to Xml isn't just calling .ToString(). Firstly, it'll accept null elements, and secondly, it's doing things no .ToString() implementation does: For example: new XElement("elem",true).ToString() == "<elem>true</elem>" //but... true.ToString() == "True" //IIRC, this is culture invariant, but in any case... true.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) == "True" Other basic data types are similarly specially treated. So, does anybody know what it's doing and where that's described?

• Does C# have an equivalent to Scala's structural typing?

  In Scala, I can define structural types as follows: type Pressable { def press(): Unit } This means that I can define a function or method which takes as an argument something that is Pressable, like this: def foo(i: Pressable) { // etc. The object which I pass to this function must have defined for it a method called press() that matches the type signature defined in the type - takes no arguments, returns Unit (Scala's version of void). I can even use the structural type inline: def foo(i: { def press(): Unit }) { // etc. It basically allows the programmer to have all the benefits of duck typing while still having the benefit of compile-time type checking. Does C# have something similar? I've Googled but can't find anything, but I'm not familiar with C# in any depth. If there aren't, are there any plans to add this?

• In CAB is a service it's own module?

  I'm learning Composite Application Block and I've hit a rock about services. I have my shell application in its own solution, and of course a test module in its own solution (developed and testing completely independent and external of the shell solution). If I created a service named "Sql Service", would I need to put this in it's own library, so that both the shell, and the module know the types? If that's the case, then for good practice, should I put the service project in the shell solution, or external just like a module (in it's own solution), even though it's not loaded as a module? Then, what about references? Should the shell reference this directly, add then add the service? Or load it as a module and add the service? I have a lot of confusion on where I should create my services, and if I should reference or load as modules..
