  • How to interpret mono profiler results?

    - by Ovidiu Pacurar
    I created a console application in C# and running it on windows/.NET is 5x faster than on linux/mono or windows/mono. The app encodes some binary files into text format(JSON). I profiled the app on linux/mono using: mono --profile=default:stat myconsoleapp.exe Here is the first part of the result: prof counts: total/unmanaged: 32274/25062 23542 72.95 % mono 459 1.42 % System.Decimal:Divide (System.Decimal,System.Decimal) 457 1.42 % System.Decimal:Round (System.Decimal,int,System.MidpointRounding) 411 1.27 % /lib/libz.so.1 262 0.81 % /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(memmove 253 0.78 % System.Decimal:IsZero () 247 0.77 % System.NumberFormatter:Init (string,double,int) 213 0.66 % System.NumberFormatter:AppendDigits (int,int) 72.95 % mono? Are mono internals using 3 quarters of the total execution time?

  • Oracle get previous day records

    - by Phill Pafford
Ok I think I'm getting the previous year instead of the previous day, but I need to previous day. SELECT TO_DATE(TO_CHAR(CURRENT_DATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD'),'YYYY-MM-DD') - 1 FROM Dual I'm comparing it to a datetime stamp in this format and wish to get all the rows from the previous day. YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS So I'm trying something like this SELECT field,datetime_field FROM database WHERE datetime_field > TO_DATE(TO_CHAR(CURRENT_DATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD'),'YYYY-MM-DD') - 1

  • TSQL Help (SQL Server 2005)

    - by Mick Walker
I have been playing around with a quite complex SQL Statement for a few days, and have gotten most of it working correctly. I am having trouble with one last part, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the issue, as I have no idea why it isnt working: INSERT INTO ExistingClientsAccounts_IMPORT SELECT DISTINCT cca.AccountID, cca.SKBranch, cca.SKAccount, cca.SKName, cca.SKBase, cca.SyncStatus, cca.SKCCY, cca.ClientType, cca.GFCID, cca.GFPID, cca.SyncInput, cca.SyncUpdate, cca.LastUpdatedBy, cca.Deleted, cca.Branch_Account, cca.AccountTypeID FROM ClientsAccounts AS cca INNER JOIN (SELECT DISTINCT ClientAccount, SKAccount, SKDesc, SKBase, SKBranch, ClientType, SKStatus, GFCID, GFPID, Account_Open_Date, Account_Update FROM ClientsAccounts_IMPORT) AS ccai ON cca.Branch_Account = ccai.ClientAccount Table definitions follow: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[ExistingClientsAccounts_IMPORT]( [AccountID] [int] NOT NULL, [SKBranch] [varchar](2) NOT NULL, [SKAccount] [varchar](12) NOT NULL, [SKName] [varchar](255) NULL, [SKBase] [varchar](16) NULL, [SyncStatus] [varchar](50) NULL, [SKCCY] [varchar](5) NULL, [ClientType] [varchar](50) NULL, [GFCID] [varchar](10) NULL, [GFPID] [varchar](10) NULL, [SyncInput] [smalldatetime] NULL, [SyncUpdate] [smalldatetime] NULL, [LastUpdatedBy] [varchar](50) NOT NULL, [Deleted] [tinyint] NOT NULL, [Branch_Account] [varchar](16) NOT NULL, [AccountTypeID] [int] NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] CREATE TABLE [dbo].[ClientsAccounts_IMPORT]( [NEWClientIndex] [bigint] NOT NULL, [ClientGroup] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [ClientAccount] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [SKAccount] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [SKDesc] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [SKBase] [varchar](10) NULL, [SKBranch] [varchar](2) NOT NULL, [ClientType] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [SKStatus] [varchar](255) NOT NULL, [GFCID] [varchar](255) NULL, [GFPID] [varchar](255) NULL, [Account_Open_Date] [smalldatetime] NULL, [Account_Update] [smalldatetime] NULL, [SKType] [varchar](255) NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] The error message I get is: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 14, Line 1 String or binary data would be truncated. • Best method to select an object from another unknown jQuery object

    - by Yosi
Lets say I have a jQuery object/collection stored in a variable named obj, which should contain a DOM element with an id named target. I don't know in advance if target will be a child in obj, i.e.: obj = $('<div id="parent"><div id="target"></div></div>'); or if obj equals target, i.e.: obj = $('<div id="target"></div>'); or if target is a top-level element inside obj, i.e.: obj = $('<div id="target"/><span id="other"/>'); I need a way to select target from obj, but I don't know in advance when to use .find and when to use .filter. What would be the fastest and/or most concise method of extracting target from obj? What I've come up with is: var $target = obj.find("#target").add(obj.filter("#target")); UPDATE I'm adding solutions to a JSPERF test page to see which one is the best. Currently my solution is still the fastest. Here is the link, please run the tests so that we'll have more data: http://jsperf.com/jquery-selecting-objects

  • WordPress: Prevent Showing of Sub Category Posts

    - by Carlos Pattrezzi
    Hi, I'd like to know how to prevent showing of sub-category posts. My home page lists all posts from three "main categories" (parent category), but unfortunately it's also listing some posts from the sub-categories. Here's the code that I'm using to get the posts from specific category: <h2>Category Name</h2> <ul> <?php $category_query = new WP_Query(array('category_name' => 'category1', 'showposts' => 5)); ?> <?php while ($profissionais_query->have_posts()) : $profissionais_query->the_post(); ?> <li> <a class="title" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a> <?php the_excerpt(); ?> </li> <?php endwhile; ?> </ul> Does anyone have an idea? Thank you.

  • iPhone and Vertex Buffer Objects

    - by dancer
I've just started playing around with opengl es on the iphone the past couple of weeks and i'm looking at refactoring some of my code to use Vertex Buffer Objects(VBO). Before I do though I would like to make sure it'll be worth it. The problem is that afaik the only reason you create VBO's is to shift a chunk of data onto the graphics card so that it doesn't need to be retrieved from system ram when it's used. The iPhone however does not have any dedicated ram that I'm aware of so i'm struggling to see why I would benefit at all from using VBO's. I have seen talk around the internet with conflicting opinions and apple certainly want dev's to use it so there's probably still a reason to use them but just wanted to see if anyone on SO had an opinion to add.

  • Any disadvantages to this tagging approach

    - by donpal
I have a table of tags ID tag --- ------ 1 tagt 2 tagb 3 tagz 4 tagn In my items table, I'm using those tags in serialized format, comma delimited ID field1 tags ---- ------ ----- 1 value1 tagt, tagb 2 value2 tagb 3 value3 tagb, tagn 4 value4 When I need to find items that have this tag, I plan to deserialize the tags. But I'm not actually sure how to do it, and if it's better to have a third table for associations instead between the tags and the items.

  • How to match multiple field in mySQL

    - by Mint
    Im trying to match forum_id with several different forum_id's, something like forum_id = 5,7,12,43,63,78 I currently have this code: SELECT topic_title, topic_id, forum_id FROM $MYSQL_TOPIC WHERE topic_title LIKE '%%%s%%' AND forum_id = 5 LIMIT 50 (using mysql_real_escape_string and sprintf) I tried: forum_id = 5 OR 7 forum_id = 5|7 forum_id = 5 AND 7 forum_id = 5 & 7 But none of them will match them all and therefore search though them all.

  • Advanced SQL query with lots of joins

    - by lund.mikkel
Hey fellow programmers Okay, first let me say that this is a hard one. I know the presentation may be a little long. But I how you'll bare with me and help me through anyway :D So I'm developing on an advanced search for bicycles. I've got a lot of tables I need to join to find all, let's say, red and brown bikes. One bike may come in more then one color! I've made this query for now: SELECT DISTINCT p.products_id, #simple product id products_name, #product name products_attributes_id, #color id pov.products_options_values_name #color name FROM products p LEFT JOIN products_description pd ON p.products_id = pd.products_id INNER JOIN products_attributes pa ON pa.products_id = p.products_id LEFT JOIN products_options_values pov ON pov.products_options_values_id = pa.options_values_id LEFT JOIN products_options_search pos ON pov.products_options_values_id = pos.products_options_values_id WHERE pos.products_options_search_id = 4 #code for red OR pos.products_options_search_id = 5 #code for brown My first concern is the many joins. The Products table mainly holds product id and it's image and the Products Description table holds more descriptive info such as name (and product ID of course). I then have the Products Options Values table which holds all the colors and their IDs. Products Options Search is containing the color IDs along with a color group ID (products_options_search_id). Red has the color group code 4 (brown is 5). The products and colors have a many-to-many relationship managed inside Products Attributes. So my question is first of all: Is it okay to make so many joins? Is i hurting the performance? Second: If a bike comes in both red and brown, it'll show up twice even though I use SELECT DISTINCT. Think this is because of the INNER JOIN. Is this possible to avoid and do I have to remove the doubles in my PHP code? Third: Bikes can be double colored (i.e. black and blue). This means that there are two rows for that bike. One where it says the color is black and one where is says its blue. (See second question). But if I replace the OR in the WHERE clause it removes both rows, because none of them fulfill the conditions - only the product. What is the workaround for that? I really hope you will and can help me. I'm a little desperate right now :D Regards Mikkel Lund

  • Ideas Related to Subset Sum with 2,3 and more integers

    - by rolandbishop
I've been struggling with this problem just like everyone else and I'm quite sure there has been more than enough posts to explain this problem. However in terms of understanding it fully, I wanted to share my thoughts and get more efficient solutions from all the great people in here related to Subset Sum problem. I've searched it over the Internet and there is actually a lot sources but I'm really willing to re-implement an algorithm or finding my own in order to understand fully. The key thing I'm struggling with is the efficiency considering the set size will be large. (I do not have a limit, just conceptually large). The two phases I'm trying to implement ideas on is finding two numbers that are equal to given integer T, finding three numbers and eventually K numbers. Some ideas I've though; For the two integer part I'm thing basically sorting the array O(nlogn) and for each element in the array searching for its negative value. (i.e if the array element is 3 searching for -3). Maybe a hash table inclusion could be better, providing a O(1) indexing the element? For the three or more integers I've found an amazing blog post;http://www.skorks.com/2011/02/algorithms-a-dropbox-challenge-and-dynamic-programming/. However even the author itself states that it is not applicable for large numbers. So I was for 2 and 3 and more integers what ideas could be applied for the subset problem. I'm struggling with setting up a dynamic programming method that will be efficient for the large inputs as well.

  • SQl queries searching by date range

    - by tecno
Hi, I have a table in an Access 2007 database, all fields are of type text. Can the following be done using the where clause. If so how? SELECT * from Table1 WHERE (ColumnDate is between 26th and 19th of march 2010) SELECT * from Table1 WHERE (ColumnAge is between 25 and 40) The usual < <= operators dont seem to work. Thanks,

  • Suggested (simple) approach for drawing large numbers of visual elements in WPF?

    - by Ender
I'm writing an interface that features a large (~50000px width) "canvas"-type area that is used to display a lot of data in a fairly novel way. This involves lots of lines, rectangles, and text. The user can scroll around to explore the entire canvas. At the moment I'm just using a standard Canvas panel with various Shapes placed on it. This is nice and easy to do: construct a shape, assign some coordinates, and attach it to the Canvas. Unfortunately, it's pretty slow (to construct the children, not to do the actual rendering). I've looked into some alternatives, it's a bit intimidating. I don't need anything fancy - just the ability to efficiently construct and place objects in a coordinate plane. If all I get are lines, colored rectangles, and text, I'll be happy. Do I need Geometry instances inside of Geometry Groups inside of GeometryDrawings inside of some Panel container? Note: I'd like to include text and graphics (i.e. colored rectangles) in the same space, if possible.

  • Question about Cost in Oracle Explain Plan

    - by Will
When Oracle is estimating the 'Cost' for certain queries, does it actually look at the amount of data (rows) in a table? For example: If I'm doing a full table scan of employees for name='Bob', does it estimate the cost by counting the amount of existing rows, or is it always a set cost?

  • Merging MySQL row entries into a single row

    - by Derrick
I've got two tables, one for listings and another representing a list of tags for the listings table. In the listings table the tag ids are stored in a field called tags as 1-2-3-. This has worked out very well for me (regular expressions and joins to separate and display the data), but I now need to pull the titles of those tags into a single row. See below. listings table id tags 1 1-2-3- 2 4-5-6- tags table id title 1 pig 2 dog 3 cat 4 mouse 5 elephant 6 duck And what I need to produce out of the listings table is: id tags 2 mouse, elephant, duck

  • Tricking the server to load files faster?

    - by Yongho
If we have a website with multiple images and videos, I've read that it's best to serve them from other domains so that the browser can simultaneously download a bunch of files, rather than waiting one by one for each file to be downloaded. For example, if we have a website http://example.com/, we might consider serving: Videos from http://video.example.com/ Images from http://images.example.com/ etc. Question: can we achieve the simultaneous downloading by tricking the browser into believing that the files are hosted there, or do they actually need to be at that location? We can, for example, pretend to serve video from http://video.example.com/ when actually it's just a clever htaccess rewrite that ACTUALLY serves from http://example.com/video.php. In this case, the video is being served from the main domain but because we refer it as http://video.example.com/, it may think that it's another domain and thus load files simultaneously, rather than one by one. Is this feasible?

  • Calculate the retrieved rows in database Visual C#

    - by Tanya Lertwichaiworawit
    I am new in Visual C# and would want to know how to calculate the retrieved data from a database. Using the above GUI, when "Calculate" is click, the program will display the number of students in textBox1, and the average GPA of all students in textBox2. Here is my database table "Students": I was able to display the number of students but I'm still confused to how I can calculate the average GPA Here's my code: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string connection = @"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\Database1.accdb"; OleDbConnection connect = new OleDbConnection(connection); string sql = "SELECT * FROM Students"; connect.Open(); OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand(sql, connect); DataSet data = new DataSet(); OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(command); adapter.Fill(data, "Students"); textBox1.Text = data.Tables["Students"].Rows.Count.ToString(); double gpa; for (int i = 0; i < data.Tables["Students"].Rows.Count; i++) { gpa = Convert.ToDouble(data.Tables["Students"].Rows[i][2]); } connect.Close(); }

  • PHP Object References in Frameworks

    - by bigstylee
Before I dive into the disscusion part a quick question; Is there a method to determine if a variable is a reference to another variable/object? For example $foo = 'Hello World'; $bar = &$foo; echo (is_reference($bar) ? 'Is reference' : 'Is orginal'; I have been using PHP5 for a few years now (personal use only) and I would say I am moderately reversed on the topic of Object Orientated implementation. However the concept of Model View Controller Framework is fairly new to me. I have looked a number of tutorials and looked at some of the open source frameworks (mainly CodeIgnitor) to get a better understanding how everything fits together. I am starting to appreciate the real benefits of using this type of structure. I am used to implementing object referencing in the following technique. class Foo{ public $var = 'Hello World!'; } class Bar{ public function __construct(){ global $Foo; echo $Foo->var; } } $Foo = new Foo; $Bar = new Bar; I was surprised to see that CodeIgnitor and Yii pass referencs of objects and can be accessed via the following method: $this->load->view('argument') The immediate advantage I can see is a lot less code and more user friendly. But I do wonder if it is more efficient as these frameworks are presumably optimised? Or simply to make the code more user friendly? This was an interesting article Do not use PHP references.
