I think this is a pretty easy question...How do I make a asp.net function global? e.g. If I have a function GetUserInfo() defined on default.aspx how do I call this function from mypage2.aspx?
I have a question, which Unicode encoding to use while encoding .NET string into base64? I know strings are UTF-16 encoded on Windows, so is my way of encoding is the right one?
public static String ToBase64String(this String source) {
return Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(source));
}
I look for a free launcher or bootstrapper that checks whether the .net framework is installed, and starts my app1.exe, or app2.exe if not. Alternatively a louncher that checks for the OS version.
Hi all,
I have been given a wsdl and have used wsdl.exe to create my proxy classes.
I am able to call the function to initiate the request with some valid parameters and this returns my response object which is always EMPTY.
When i inspect the soap message response using fiddler the soap does have valid data that should be deserialzed to the proxy classes.
Can i manually intercept the derserializing call of the proxy classes generated by wsdl and check that .net is correctly derializing the soap response?
Thank you

I have a .net 4 application that uses a Com Dll to send SMS messages. I used TlbImp to create the interop assembly and that is what is referenced in the application.
When I try to create an instance of this class, it takes a really long time (2-5 seconds).
I ran performance profile in VS 2010 and the call that takes the longest by far is System.Activator.CreateInstance().
I am looking for tips on how to debug or gotchas with using Com Interop.
I have created a ViewUserControl in my ASP.NET MVC 2 project. This ViewUserControl serves as the general page-header for all views in the project.
How can I add a custom property on ViewUserControls, accessible from views using that control?..:
<%@ Register
Src="../Shared/Header.ascx"
TagName="Header"
TagPrefix="uc" %>
<uc:Header
runat="server"
ID="ucHeader"
MenuItemHighlighted="Menuitem.FrontPage" /> <!-- custom property, here -->

At the last PDC (can't remember which talk it was) they gave us the information that it will be possible to share assemblies between regular .Net 4 and Silverlight 4.
Unfortunately I can't find anything on this. Was this feature dropped? What options/limitations are there?
(There are similar questions on SO but they don't say if they apply to SL3 or 4.)
We are doing a small dashboard to retrieve and display the DHCP servers list in a LAN and then getting the Scope information like IPs used and unused and the count using .NET preferably C#. How could that be made possible.
What is the best way to put together a "shortcut" to launch a IronRuby REPL with some .NET assemblies preloaded? I think there is a way to do this in Powershell (via Snapin or Module) and I'm looking for something similar in IronRuby.
First post here.
I have a asp/vb6 web app that logs in a user I want to encrypt the users identity field and pass(querystring) it to a asp.net app and then decrypt it to do a db lookup.
I've google'd it of course and found rot13, not secure enough. I've also found some hits on MD5 / RC4 but did not find any good examples of encrypt / decrypt.
Thanks,
Michael

I am using VS2008 C# and testing on my local XP Pro PC with local IIS, I have wrote a web service to call a third party software .exe file to use svn checkout commands to insert data into a folder, which use System.Diagnostics.Process.Start . The same codes did work when I use VS2008 build-in ASP.NET Development Server(http://localhost:2999/MyServices/MyServices.asmx). but when I use IIS normal URL(http://developer/MyServices/MyServices.asmx) to run Process.Start on the web service, it just haunlted and not doing anything.plz send one sample program.

Is there a .NET API available to get data from your XBox Live account?
All I'm really interested in is who's online, but messages would be cool too. And some sort of event driven notifications of user sign-on would be great, but I'll poll if need be.
Hi,
I need to change the code of some asp.net application but the application is missing its .cs files, there are only .aspx files. As I read in google, I understand that the application is a precompiled website. I am not too familiar with it so the question is, can I somehow retrieve the code-behind .cs files of this application because I need to change some functions there. Surely there is a way I can access them or retrieve them somehow?
Thanks in advance,
Greg
Similar to Ubiquitous way to get the root directory an application is running in via C#, but that question seems to be related to Win Forms. How would the same be done for Web Forms?
I was using...
HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~")
This works great for handling HTTP requests but seems not to work if a scheduler like Quartz.NET invokes a job (the problem I am having). The HttpContext.Current is null in that scenario since an actual HTTP request is not made.
The ASP.NET iPhone controls from ComponentOne is an interesting idea. However $800 is beyond my budget. Is there anything similar in the open source/free/cheaper world?
Hi all

Is there any way to implement Erlang-style light-weight processes in .NET?
I found some projects that implement Erlang messaging model (actors model). For example, Axum. But I found nothing about light-weight processes implementation. I mean multiple processes that run in a context of a single OS-thread or OS-process.
