• Database is very slow when creating an index

  My database has around 25 core numbers, in that weekly basis I need to create an index and drop index. While creating the index it takes long time to complete, my log file also keeps on increasing, and when I delete some numbers from that table also taking too much time (because weekly basis I have to delete 30 to 50 lack numbers and add 30 to 40 lack new number also). Can u please give me the proper solution..

  I have a table called Categorie with a few columns and I'm trying to get only a few out of my database. So I've tried this: $sql = 'SELECT uppercat AS id, COUNT(uppercat) AS uppercat FROM categorie GROUP BY uppercat;'; $d = Yii::app()->db->createCommand($sql)->query(); But I find the output strange. I was trying to do an array_shift but I get an error that this isn't an array. When I do a var_dump on $d: object(CDbDataReader)[38] private '_statement' => object(PDOStatement)[37] public 'queryString' => string 'SELECT uppercat AS id, COUNT(uppercat) AS uppercat FROM categorie GROUP BY uppercat;' (length=100) private '_closed' => boolean false private '_row' => null private '_index' => int -1 private '_e' (CComponent) => null private '_m' (CComponent) => null Ok.. then I did a foreach on $d: array 'id' => string '0' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '6' (length=1) array 'id' => string '3' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) array 'id' => string '6' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '1' (length=1) array 'id' => string '7' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) array 'id' => string '9' (length=1) 'uppercat' => string '2' (length=1) Then why do I get the message that $d isn't an array while it contains arrays? Is there any other way on how to get some specific data out of my database and that I can then do an array_shift on them? I've also tried doing this with findAllBySql but then I can't reach my attribute for COUNT(uppercat) which is not in my model. I guess I'd have to add it to my model but I wouldn't like that because I need it just once.

• Change the logical name of sql server express 2005 database file?

  In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express for Sql Server Express 2005, I needed to copy a database for testing and keep it on the same server as the old database. I did the following: Right Click on Databases Created new database Detached the database I wanted to copy "Restored" my new database from the backup file of my old database. I did this by clicking the 'Overwrite the existing database' box on the Options pane, and I changed the paths in the 'restore as' options so that they pointed to my new .mdf and .ldf files. Everything is working like I want. Problem is, when I right-click - Properties - Files on my new database, the logical name of the .mdf file is the same as the logical name of the old .mdf file. They are actually different files - they just share the same logical name? I guess maybe this isn't a short-term problem, but I can see it confusing somebody down the road. Any way to change the logical name of the .mdf file? UPDATE EDIT - Apparently you can just change the logical name through the GUI by, get this, clicking on it and typing a new name. I could swear that was not possible when I posted this, but maybe it was and I somehow missed it! Either way - the solution below should still work but doing it through the GUI is also an option.

  Hello all, I am architecting a software project and I want to create a SAAS (Software As a service) one. I want to model my application along the lines of Salesforce. I really like there customization features but I am not sure how they really go about it. I read that they create an ID for every field that is required and then store the corresponding data too. Can anyone guide me as to how this is possible. For example, if I want to store an employee record. 2 fields (firstname, lastname) are already given and the user adds a third field(say DOB), how is data going to be stored? I would also appreciate if someone could give me some resources to practical examples of implementing a SAAS architecture. Thanks

  I am trying to start a new MVC project with tests and I thought the best way to go would have 2 databases. 1 for testing against and 1 for when I run the app and use it (also test really as it's not production yet). For the test database I was thinking of putting create table scripts and fill data scripts within the test setup method and then deleting all this in the tear down method. I am going to be using Linq to SQL though and I don't think that will allow me to do this? Will I have to just go the ADO route if I want to do it this way? Or should I just use a mock object and store data as an array or something?. Any tips on best practices? How did Jeff go about doing this for StackOveflow?

  My project is a computer vision java application which should implement the following : A web interface through which the form entry+images(for example a student data) will be stored into a database(Mysql) & images into directory common to my java application. Then the data & images can be retrieved from my java Gui application and I can perform the following operations of image processing through OpenCV. Actually,I want to run the face detection on images retrieved and discard the false entries(no proper face). Also the application user/admin can search an image based on text search(By Id) or By another reference image using face recognition. I am well familiar with Java but the problem is that I need a guidance on how to organise it in a stepwise manner(links appreciated).OpenCv,Php and mySql are really messy.I know doing the openCV stuff within java is real overhead but i really want to do it.But If there is any suggestion to do it elseway please guide me.So any kind of help is a ray of hope for me.   Hi, I am developing a Blackberry app which should be able to access a DB. Here is my development environment and the tools I am using: Eclipse (Galileo) IDE with the Blackberry plugin installed. Blackberry OS 5.0 SQLAnywhere's DB 11 with UltraLiteJ (I am targeting Blackberrys running OS 4.1 and above) I have successfully executed a sample project for building a Blackberry application that uses the UltraLiteJ DB, following the tutorial in the UltraLiteJ documentation*. The tutorial creates, populates and retrieves data from the DB using java code. Now, I want to be able to access the tables and view data in them from the Eclipse IDE. Something similar to the FireFox plugin for SqlLite or say the Enterprise Manager for Sql Server 2005 which is a DB Explorer providing access to the StoredProcedures, Views, DB Diagrams etc. for a Database.   Hi folks, I'm having a major issue with an XSD dataset mapping thingy that I'm using within my current project. We are using XSDs for some data abstraction (it's quicker and debatably more maintainable that using Parameterised SQL or a StoredProc), and on my machine (running in the VS development environment) thy're working fine. However, on the Pre-production server we use for our testing, the XSDs are not working correctly: some method calls will fail with the following error: System.ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range. at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleParameter.set_DbType(DbType value) Has anyone ever encountered this issue before? The methods being called are simple select statements using 1-3 parameters, and as I said before they work fine on my machine.

By mistake both of my databases have the same pasword, for example: when i want to connect one of these data bases with system user, i have one pasword and perhaps the databases dont know connect which one. I start all services set oracle_sid=orcl. I run lsnrctl tnsping check tansname.ora & my listener.ora and I logon with sysdba@oracle_sid but i have this error again pleas help me tnx

  I'm working on a personal project (Search engine) and have a bit of a dilemma. At the moment it is optimized for writing data to the search index and significantly slow for search queries. The DTA (Database Engine Tuning Adviser) recommends adding a couple of Indexed views inorder to speed up search queries. But this is to the detriment of writing new data to the DB. It seems I can't have one without the other! This is obviously not a new problem. What is a good strategy for this issue?
