  • A way to search form table in MySQL database.

    - by Eugene
    I looked for a way to scan database for a specific table. For example i have: Database: system_ultimate Table: system_settings And let us say, that one doesn't know precise name of the table. He only knows, that it is some how connected to word settings. How could he search for that table name then? I understand, that usually people who develop know, what they develop, but I'm trying to get hang of MVC and I'm trying to stay as far away as possible from direct communication with table using the name. I know, that to see all tables I could use SHOW TABLES;

  • MySql paging; "Showing result-set" of "total found" help

    - by Camran
    I need a formula for showing results on my classifieds website. I am now done with the paging of records, but this formula for showing results remains. I want it like this: Showing 1-50 of 123 found. Now what is the formula for this? I have these variables which should be enough I think: $results_per_page = 50; //results per page $page = 1; //current page Also a variable called $num_total contains the total nr of hits, in this case 123. Thanks

  • mysql phpmyadmin, how to save date of birth that was attained through a form with the input type "se

    - by newbie-25
    Hello, I have a form which asks the user his or her date of birth. Its a drop down box since I use the select input type. The first drop down has Months, second has Days, the third has the Years. So the format should be Month(October), Day(25), Year(1990). In other words the months spell out the actual month and not simply the number representation of the month. However, I would like to save the Day and Year in their respective formats. How can I do this in phpMyAdmin? Should I use the DATE type? what should the value be? I just need to know how to correlate all of this in phpmyadmin, so I can save it properly. Thank you.

  • Why does this sql statement keep saying it is a boolean and not a parameter? (php/Mysql)

    - by ggfan
    In this statement, I am trying to see if there if the latest posting in the database that has the exact same title, price, city, state, detail. If there is, then it would say to the user that the exact post has been already made; if not then insert the posting into the dbc. (This is one type of check so that users can't accidentally post twice. This may not be the best check, but this statement error is annoying me, so I want it to work :)) Why won't this sql work? I think it's not letting the title=$title and not getting the value in the $title... ERROR: mysqli_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given in postad.php on line 365 //there is a form that users fill out that has title, price, city, etc <form> blah blah </form> //if users click submit, then does all the checks and if all okay, insert to dbc if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { // Grab the pposting data from the POST and gets rid of any funny stuff $title = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['title'])); $price = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['price'])); $city = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['city'])); $state = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['state'])); $detail = mysqli_real_escape_string($dbc, trim($_POST['detail'])); if (!is_numeric($price) && !empty($price)) { echo "<p class='error'>The price can only be numbers. No special characters, etc</p>"; } //Error problem...won't let me set title=$title, detail=$detail, etc. //this statement after all the checks so that none of the variables are empty $query="Select * FROM posting WHERE user_id={$_SESSION['user_id']} AND title=$title AND price=$price AND city=$city AND state=$state AND detail=$detail"; $data = mysqli_query($dbc, $query); if(mysqli_num_rows($data)==1) { echo "You already posted this ad. Most likely caused by refreshing too many times."; } }

  • How to create wordpress-like option table and get values for each row? (PHP-MySQL)

    - by Nacho
    Hi guys. I'm looking to create an options table in my db that makes every record a system option, so i can work with a little number of fields. my db has the following structure: 3 columns named id, name, and value following data is inserted as an example -- id - name - value 1 - uri - www.example.com 2 - sitename - Working it out 3 - base_folder - /folder1/folder2/ 4 - slogan - Just a slogan for the site -- that way i can include a large number of customizable system options very easily the problem is that i don't know how to retrieve them how do i get the value of uri and store it as a var? and better yet, how do i get, for exmaple, values of id 1 and 4 only without making a query each time? (i assume multiple queries are useless and a pretty ugly method) i know the question is pretty basic but i'm lost here. i'd really appreciate your answer! Thanks in advance

  • How do I create a timed ban on an account? (PHP/mysql)

    - by ggfan
    I want to create a function that allows me to ban an account for 10days. In the dbc, I have a field called "ban" and Boolean of 1=notban, 0=ban. I also have a field called "date_banned" which is just the timestamp of when the user got banned. My question is how do I create a time frame of 10days from the date the user was banned? ex: James was banned on "2010-05-03 20:43:48". So how can I go about adding 10days to the timestamp? And after 10days, it would set the "ban" equal to 1(which is not banned).

  • How do I display/compare a dynamic value of a mysql row in a if statement?

    - by Ralph The Mouf
    I have a checkboxes on my site that when unchecked, update their row in in the db as unchecked, and if checked,update their row in the db as checked. I am creating an ifstatement that will commence with its command if checked, and not if unchecked. I have echoed the variable and it is holding the proper value (checked or unchecked) but not sure if I am syntactically correct on displaying the state of the row in the db. This is what I am trying and will not work. I am new at php still and thank you very much for any help. if($auth->check_prof == 'checked'){// do the stuff in here}

  • How do I mysql select with aliases from another table?

    - by Rob
    I'm working with a CMS system where I cannot control database column names. And I've got two related tables: Table: content +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ | content_id | column_1 | column_2 | column_3 | column_4 | +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ | 1 | stuff | junk | text | info | | 2 | trash | blah | what | bio | +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ Table: column_names +------------+-------------+ | column_id | column_name | +------------+-------------+ | 1 | good_text | | 2 | bad_text | | 3 | blue_text | | 4 | red_text | +------------+-------------+ What I'd like to do here is select from the first table, but select the columns AS the column_name from the second table. So my result would look like: +------------+-----------+----------+-----------+----------+ | content_id | good_text | bad_text | blue_text | red_text | +------------+-----------+----------+-----------+----------+ | 1 | stuff | junk | text | info | | 2 | trash | blah | what | bio | +------------+-----------+----------+-----------+----------+

  • Recursive MySQL function call eats up too much memory and dies.

    - by kylex
    I have the following recursive function which works... up until a point. Then the script asks for more memory once the queries exceed about 100, and when I add more memory, the script typically just dies (I end up with a white screen on my browser). public function returnPArray($parent=0,$depth=0,$orderBy = 'showOrder ASC'){ $query = mysql_query("SELECT *, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(lastDate) AS whenTime FROM these_pages WHERE parent = '".$parent."' AND deleted = 'N' ORDER BY ".$orderBy.""); $rows = mysql_num_rows($query); while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)){ // This uses my class and places the content in an array. MyClass::$_navArray[] = array( 'id' => $row['id'], 'parent' => $row['parent'] ); MyClass::returnPArray($row['id'],($depth+1)); } $i++; } Can anyone help me make this query less resource intensive?

  • How can I Display an extract from MySQL database entry?

    - by ThatMacLad
    I'm after creating a webpage that includes a blog section and it currently displays the whole post on the homepage. I'd like to set it so that it only displays a certain part of the entry i.e 50 words. I'd then like to be able to set it so that I have a read more button below the post that links to the post id. I currently use post.php?=# (# = whatever the post id is). Here is the homepage: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <title>Blog Name</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" /> <body> <div id="upper-bar"> <div id="bar-content"> <a href="#">Home</a> <a href="#">Archives</a> <a href="#">Contact</a> <a href="#">About</a> <a href="#"><img src="images/twitter.png" id="tweet"></a><a href="#"><img src="images/feed.png" id="feed"></a> </div> </div> <div id="clear"> </div> <div class="main"> <h1>Blog Name</h1> <div class="post-col"> <?php mysql_connect ('localhost', 'root', 'root') ; mysql_select_db ('tmlblog'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM php_blog ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table php_blog.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $id = $row['id']; ?> <div id='post-info'><?php echo "<p id='title'><strong><a href=\"post.php?id=". $id . "\">" . $title . "</a></strong></p>"; ?><br /></div> <div id="post"> <?php echo $entry; ?> <!--<br /><br /> Posted on <?php echo $date; ?> !--> </p> </div> </p> </div> <?php } ?> </div> </div> </body> </html>

  • Is there a limitation to the length of the query in mysql?

    - by Bakhtiyor
    I am asking this question because I need to know this limitation as I am generating SELECT query in my PHP script and the part of WHERE in this query is generated inside the loop. Precisely it looks like this $query="SELECT field_names FROM table_name WHERE "; $condition="metadata like \"%$uol_metadata_arr[0]%\" "; for($i=1; $i<count($uol_metadata_arr); $i++){ $condition.=" OR metadata like \"%$uol_metadata_arr[$i]%\" "; } $query.=$condition; $result=mysql_query($query); So, that's why I need to know how long my $query string can be, because the array *$uol_metadata_arr* could contain many items.

  • In a MySQL SELECT query, can I use my "AS column" in a WHERE specification?

    - by user556352
    In my database I calculate distance between nodes with: SELECT DISTINCT dest.name, AsText(orig.location), AsText(dest.location), round((glength(linestringfromwkb(linestring((orig.location), (dest.location)))))) as distance FROM nodes orig, nodes dest WHERE orig.name='GERP' I would like to add "and distance < dest.visibility" at the end, but am told that distance is an unknown column. Any insight very much appreciated.

  • Removing rows from MySQL table where the timestamp is over one day old?

    - by Rob
    I found the exact same question here. But it isn't working for me. I've modified it a bit, manipulated it, and I can't figure it out. I'm trying to remove rows that are over a day old. Here is my code: if (isset($_POST['prune'])) { $sql = "DELETE FROM logs WHERE time < date('now', '-1 days')"; mysql_query($sql); echo 'Logs older than one day removed.'; } Fairly simple question I suppose, but its bugging the hell out of me. I would appreciate any help. In case it makes a difference, the column is a TIMESTAMP type.
