  • Postgresql 8.4 reading OID style BLOBs with Hibernate

    I am getting this weird case when querying Postgres 8.4 for some records with Blobs (of type OIDs) with Hibernate. The query does return all right but when my code wants to read the content of the BLOB with the simple code below, it gets 0 bytes back public static byte[] readBlob(Blob blob) throws Exception { InputStream is = null; try { is = blob.getBinaryStream(); return org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils.toByteArray(is); } finally { if (is != null) try { is.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } Funny think is that I am getting this behavior only since I've started adding more then one such records to the table. The underlying JDBC library is type 3 (postgresq 8.4-701). Can someone give me a hint as to how to solve this issue? Thanks Peter

Can somebody help me translate those ISAPI rules to APACHE mod_rewrite? I don't know how to 'translate' those rules...   • Smarty debug mode not displaying included templates.

    On www.euroworker.no/order I have set Smarty's debug mode on with {debug output=html} in the header, so it will debug every page. But it says: Smarty Debug Console included templates & config files (load time in seconds): no templates included And after a list of template variables, {$cart} Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 561962 bytes) in /home/euroworkerno/www/library/smarty/libs/plugins/modifier.debug_print_var.php on line 30 It also doesn't display a list of templates for any url.. This is strange, can anyone point me to why it won't display the lit of .tpls? I need to find some HTML comments that someone has left in to rid IE of a display bug. Thanks.

    In "Perl Best Practices" the very first line in the section on AUTOLOAD is: Don't use AUTOLOAD However all the cases he describes are dealing with OO or Modules. I have a stand alone script in which some command line switches control which versions of particular functions get defined. Now I know I could just take the conditionals and the evals and stick them naked at the top of my file before everything else, but I find it convenient and cleaner to put them in AUTOLOAD at the end of the file. Is this bad practice / style? If you think so why, and is there a another way to do it?

  • Automatically release resources RAII-style in Perl

    Say I have a resource (e.g. a filehandle or network socket) which has to be freed: open my $fh, "<", "filename" or die "Couldn't open filename: $!"; process($fh); close $fh or die "Couldn't close filename: $!"; Suppose that process might die. Then the code block exits early, and $fh doesn't get closed. I could explicitly check for errors: open my $fh, "<", "filename" or die "Couldn't open filename: $!"; eval {process($fh)}; my $saved_error = $@; close $fh or die "Couldn't close filename: $!"; die $saved_error if $saved_error; but this kind of code is notoriously difficult to get right, and only gets more complicated when you add more resources. In C++ I would use RAII to create an object which owns the resource, and whose destructor would free it. That way, I don't have to remember to free the resource, and resource cleanup happens correctly as soon as the RAII object goes out of scope - even if an exception is thrown. Unfortunately in Perl a DESTROY method is unsuitable for this purpose as there are no guarantees for when it will be called. Is there a Perlish way to ensure resources are automatically freed like this even in the presence of exceptions? Or is explicit error checking the only option?

  • Margin animate problem with Monitor display settings

    I have an issue with an animation on a webpage. I have this div with text inside of it that I set the margin using css and when the page is loaded I use jquery to animate the div to a certain part of the page. The problem is it works with my concrete pixel settings, but if I change the properties of the monitor display settings in screen resolution(pixels), the div does not animate to the appropriate spot and it doesn't even start off at the appropriate spot from the css. Sample code: #div{ position:absolute; top:20px; left:50px } $("#div").animate({marginLeft: "250px"},2000); Is there a way to have the settings of the animation margin end at the approriate position no matter what the screen resolution is?

There are different messages for different purposes and we are trying to make the coding easy and understandable for the future. By the way we have different transport classes like e-mail, sms, twitter vs... Now we are doing this but I dont know if there is a better solution. We have a class called H2B_Message_Container_Mail_About_Blablabla it has 4 methods; interface H2B_Message_Mail_Interface { public function setName($name); public function setValue($key, $value); public function getMailBody(); public function getMailSubject(); } and in the mail body there are various variables as expected. before we send the mail, we get the variable values from the database with JSON format and decode it. Then we send it like; $mail = new H2B_Message_Mail(); $mail->setTemplate($newTemplate); $mail->send(); The question is; is there a better way to do this ?

Previously, for my similar Winforms App, I had extended the IComponent (Component Class) and wrote our VS Like designer kind of custom control which will allow users to drag drop controls from the visual studio toolbox and then I export it as a VisualStudio C#&VB ItemTemplate. Now I am trying to recreate the same control using WPF considering its power, extensiblity. Could anyone shed some lights on this, on what would be the most preferable way of doing this ?     Hello, I have few questions regarding dynamic casting , typeid() and templates 1) How come typeid does not require RTTI ? 2) dynamic_cast on polymorphic type: When I do downcast (Base to Derive) with RTTI - compilation passes When RTTI is off - I get a warning (warning C4541: 'dynamic_cast' used on polymorphic type 'CBase' with /GR-; unpredictable behavior may result) When I do upcast (Derive to Base), with or without RTTI - compilation passes smoothly What I don't understand is why when I do upcast and RTTI is off - I don't get any warning/error! 3) dynamic_cast on NON polymorphic type: When I do downcast with or without RTTI - compilation fails (error C2683: 'dynamic_cast' : 'CBase' is not a polymorphic type) BUT When I do upcast with or without RTTI - compilation passes smoothly. How come on upcast on NON polymorphic type passes w/o RTTI ? 4) Does 'inline' in front of a template function has any effect, i.e. when the compiler compiles the function and see it is 'inline' it will actually treat the function as inline or it is ignored?     Hi, I work in a small, independent scientific lab in a university in the United States, and it has come to my notice that, compared with a lot of practices that are ostensibly followed in the industry, like daily checkout into a version control system, use of a single IDE/editor for all languages (like emacs), etc, we follow rather shoddy programming practices. So, I was thinking of getting together all my programs, scripts, etc, and building a streamlined environment to increase productivity. I'd like suggestions from people on Stack Overflow for the same. Here is my primary plan.: I use MATLAB, C and Python scripts, and I'd like to edit, compile them from a single editor, and ensure correct version control. (questions/things for which I'd like suggestions are in italics) 1] Install Cygwin, and get it to work well with Windows so I can use git or a similar version control system (is there a DVCS which can work directly from the windows CLI, so I can skip the Cygwin step?). 2] Set up emacs to work with C, Python, and MATLAB files, so I can edit and compile all three at once from a single editor (say, emacs) (I'm not very familiar with the emacs menu, but is there a way to set the path to the compiler for certain languages? I know I can Google this, but emacs documentation has proved very hard for me to read so far, so I'd appreciate it if someone told me in simple language) 3] Start checking in code at the end of each day or half-day so as to maintain a proper path of progress of my code (two questions), can you checkout files directly from emacs? is there a way to checkout LabVIEW files into a DVCS like git? Lastly, I'd like to apologize for the rather vague nature of the question, and hope I shall learn to ask better questions over time. I'd appreciate it if people gave their suggestions, though, and point to any resources which may help me learn.

  • Using "class/object" MooTools-style events in jQuery

    One of the nice things about MooTools, is that it lets you easily assign/fire events to objects, for example: var playerSingleton = new (new Class({ Implements: [Events], initialize: function() {}, setVolume: function() { // do some stuff.. this.fireEvent('volumeChanged') } })); // Somewhere else... playerSingleton.addEvent('volumeChanged', function() { // do something when volume changes }); playerSingleton.setVolume(75); // bam our event fires. How would something like this be done with jQuery? I know there's .bind and .trigger, but it seems like the only way to do this is to bind/fire events to the window object: $(window).bind('volumeChanged', fn); Is there anything better than this, more like the MooTools approach?   • Broadcast-style Bluetooth using Sockets on the iPhone?

    Is there any way to open a broadcast bluetooth socket, take a listen and send replies? I want a proper peer to peer system where I broadcast and listen for broadcasts in an area. That way, variable clients can mingle. Is this possible? My theory is this: If GameKit can sit around wasting 25 seconds of the users time whilst having access to a broadcast socket, can't I? Or, must I be in kernel mode for such access? I'm not really sure where the proper bluetooth headers are as well. Thanks for reading!

  • Form submits correctly in Chrome/FF, but fails altogether in IE/Safari

    I have a form with a css submit button. When a the submit button is clicked, i call a function that executes: document.forms["request"].onsubmit(); What should happen, then, is that the onsubmit method ought to be triggered. This works properly in Chrome/FF, but for some reason IE/Safari will bypass the onsubmit function and simply add the parameter "address=" onto the url as if it were submitting the form and ignoring the onsubmit function.
