  • Is there a way to pass a regex capture to a block in Ruby?

    I have a hash with a regex for the key and a block for the value. Something like the following: { 'test (.+?)' => { puts $1 } } Not exactly like that, obviously, since the block is being stored as a Proc, but that's the idea. I then have a regex match later on that looks a lot like this hash.each do |pattern, action| if /#{pattern}/i.match(string) action.call end end The idea was to store the block away in the hash to make it a bit easier for me to expand upon in the future, but now the regex capture doesn't get passed to the block. Is there a way to do this cleanly that would support any number of captures I put in the regex (as in, some regex patterns may have 1 capture, others may have 3)?

    Hello! Think there might be something about this MVP approach I have completely misunderstood. Currently I am struggling to apply the MVP pattern to the part of my application consisting of a StackLayoutPanel (accordion). To me it seems natural to have a presenter and a view per stack... but how do I allow the different presenters to react when the user switch the state of the stack panel? If someone could sketch an application of the MVP pattern in the case of an accordion application I would be really, really grateful!     I'm trying to understand the factory design pattern. I don't understand why it's good to have a middleman between the client and the product (object that the client wants). example with no factory: $mac = new Mac(); example with a factory: $appleStore = new AppleStore(); $mac = $appleStore->getProduct('mac'); How does the factory pattern decouple the client from the product? Could someone give an example of a future code change that will impact on example 1 negative, but positive in example 2 so I understand the importance of decoupling? Thanks.

    This is a great regular expression for dates... However it hangs indefinitely on this one page I tried... I wanted to try this page ( http://pleac.sourceforge.net/pleac%5Fpython/datesandtimes.html ) for the fact that it does have lots of dates on it and I want to grab all of them. I don't understand why it is hanging when it doesn't on other pages... Why is my regexp hanging and/or how could I clean it up to make it better/efficient ?     TLDR IE is still caching my requests even with Math.random() included in the URL. So I added math random onto the end of my url: var MYKMLURL = 'http://' + host + 'data/pattern?key='+ Math.random(); I also added math random onto my function param: window.setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 1000, MYKMLLAYER); function RefreshPatternData(layer) { layer.loaded = false; layer.setVisibility(true); layer.refresh({ force: true, params: { 'key': Math.random()} }); setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 30000, MYKMLLAYER); } So the request appears as http://host/data/pattern?key=35678652545 etc. It changes everytime the request is made. It works in Firefox & Chrome & Safari etc. But IE8 is still caching the data and not updating my layer. Any ideas as to why this might be occuring?

    I have an application which obtains data in JSON format from one of our other servers. The problem I am facing is, there is is significant delay when when requesting for this information. Since a lot of data is passed (approx 1000 records per request where each record is pretty huge) is there a way that compression would help reducing the speed. If so which compression scheme would you recommend. I read on another thread that they pattern of data also matters a lot on they type of compression that needs to be used. The pattern of data is consistent and resembles the following :desc=>some_description :url=>some_url :content=>some_content :score=>some_score :more_attributes=>more_data Can someone recommend a solution to how I could reduce this delay. They delay is approx 6-8 seconds. I'm using Ruby on Rails to develop this application and the server providing the data uses Python for the most part.

    I try to create php web app using GAE. In the GAE tutorial, "A script handler executes a PHP script to handle the request that matches the URL pattern. The mapping defines a URL pattern to match, and the script to be executed" Now I want to map the url with the file having same name in the folder, e.g. if the url is /hello.* , it will map the file name hello.php in the folder. And if it is /hello1.*, hello1.php in the folder will be responded to the server. I thought this should be done directly by mapping the name of the url with the name in the folder. But if I left empty for the handler in the app.yaml, I got an error. So I want to know how to set up the handler in app.yaml?

    I have been given the task of re-writing some libraries written in C# so that there are no allocations once startup is completed. I just got to one project that does some DB queries over an OdbcConnection every 30 seconds. I've always just used .ExecuteReader() which creates an OdbcDataReader. Is there any pattern (like the SocketAsyncEventArgs socket pattern) that lets you re-use your own OdbcDataReader? Or some other clever way to avoid allocations? I haven't bothered to learn LINQ since all the dbs at work are Oracle based and the last I checked, there was no official Linq To Oracle provider. But if there's a way to do this in Linq, I could use one of the third-party ones.

    I found something contradictory in Oracle VM. Clustered server pool creation in Oracle VM would format my FC LUN as ocfs2 , and start o2cb & ocfs2 services to build cluster environment. After that, when I wanted to create repository on the serverpool, unexpectedly, it told me that the physical disk I chose which is also my FC LUN, already contains a file system. What a contradictory! So what, delete the file system in serverpool? If so, why created it before?!     Hello ! I have tried to sett my DC to get its time from several NTP severs. First I disable Time Synchronization in the Hyper-V Integration Services for each guest. Then restart the Windows Time serviceon the guest. I was trying to update the SP and BIOS firmwares in order to bring them all up to the same standard -- mostly to get the updated (ie actually useful) SP functionality, and figured that I would just do the BIOS while I was at it. For three of the four computers, it worked perfectly. However after the BIOS update, the fourth system won't boot. I did this: batch05-mgmt $ sp get mounts Local Remote /mnt 10.16.0.8:/export/v20z batch05-mgmt $ platform set os state update-bios /mnt/sw_images/platform/firmware/bios/V1.35.3.2/bios.sp This command may take several minutes. Please be patient.   • Telnet does not give a response

    Some wireless access points are acting a little weird, so I want to reboot them every couple of hours. Luckily there exists a security flaw which lets me login as root through telnet when using port 1111 (without username and password). Now I want to use that to let my QNAP NAS execute the reboot command through telnet every now and then. The problem is however that that telnet version doesn't give any response if I connect to the AP. The telnet I use on OSX works just fine but the one on the NAS not. BusyBox v1.01 (2012.06.14-18:35+0000) multi-call binary Usage: telnet [-a] [-l USER] HOST [PORT] When I execute telnet <HOST> 1111 nothing happens. I can send the escape character ^] which gives me the following options: Console escape. Commands are: l go to line mode c go to character mode z suspend telnet e exit telnet z continuing... asdf Illegal command. 00> After that I am able to communicate with the AP, but when I exit the telnet session and try the same again, the AP refuses to connect at all and it must be manually rebooted (looks like the telnet session isn't shut down properly on the AP). So the question is what commands should I execute in order to communicate with the AP using the Busybox telnet version of the QNAP? (No, can't use ssh unfortunately)
