  • script calling script as other user

    - by viktor tron
Using CentOs, I want to run a script as user 'training' as a system service. I use daemontools to monitor the process, which needs a launcher script that is run as root: : #!/bin/bash exec >> /var/log/training_service.log 2>&1 setuidgid training training_command This last line is not good enough since for training_command, we need environment for training user to be set. : su - training -c 'training_command' gives 'standard in must be tty' as su making sure tty is present to potentially accept password. I know I could make this disappear by modifying /etc/sudoers a la Bash & 'su' script giving an error "standard in must be a tty" but i am reluctant and unsure of consequences. : runuser - training -c 'training_command' gives runuser: cannot set groups: Connection refused. I found no sense or resolution to this message. I am stuck. Is this something so hard to achieve? I appreciate all insight and guidance to best practice.

  • How can I debug user mode driver failures in Windows 8

    - by Tom
I have a 32 GB SD Card. Whenever I insert this card in to my newly upgraded Windows 8 laptop the OS stops responding normally. Metro Apps won't work. The system may or may not log in. Desktop apps may or may not be able to do things. When I remove the card and restart then all is fine. As soon as I put the card back in, the system starts misbehaving again. I've run Windows Update, so I have the latest drivers from Microsoft. This does not occur with the 8 GB cards I have. Unfortunately I only have one 32 GB card, so I can't test with others. From examining the system event log I've determined this is happening due to a user mode driver failure. How can I best debug this issue from here? How can I figure out which driver this is related to? Will there be a Dr. Watson crash dump somewhere? Details - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-DriverFrameworks-UserMode [ Guid] {2E35AAEB-857F-4BEB-A418-2E6C0E54D988} EventID 10110 Version 1 Level 1 Task 64 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x2000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2012-10-29T00:51:57.532718300Z EventRecordID 40417 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 1056 [ ThreadID] 3796 Channel System Computer thebrain - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 - UserData - UMDFHostProblem [ lifetime] {811E3DC4-FBC6-420B-ABCC-AD7505A36F3B} - Problem [ code] 3 [ detectedBy] 2 ExitCode 3 - Operation [ code] 259 Message 72448 Status 4294967295 Edit 1 So I tried using Debug View from SysInternals (you can get it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx). That gave me this information: which is not especially helpful. Then I tried connecting WinDbg to WUDFHost.exe (the process that seems to host user mode drivers) to see if it could catch the error. It didn't catch any exceptions as I'd hoped (which would point me to the cause of the crash at least). Here's the stack of one of the threads:

  • FTP User cannot modify files but has correct permissions

    - by Lothar_Grimpsenbacher
I have created a new user (foo) and when he logs in via ftp he cannot edit the files in the directory to which he has access. In the directory he can log into ls -l gives me: -rw-rw-r-- 1 root www-pub 6427 Nov 17 04:21 index.html The user belongs to the group www-pub. Here is the output of cat /etc/group to demonstrate that he is indeed in that group: ... www-pub:x:1001:ftpuser,www-data,foo foo:x:1002: *edit the permissions on the containing directory are: drwxrwsr-x 5 root www-pub 4096 Nov 17 02:53 thecontainingdir and the one above that: drwxrwsr-x 49 root www-pub 4096 Nov 16 02:40 thenextdirup So since he can log in via ftp and since the file he needs to edit has the correct permissions to let the group www-pub read and write the file and he is a member of that group, why can't he edit it (or upload anything)? Only when I change the file to 777 can he edit it. It's as if he's NOT in the group... but he is! What's going on?

  • Search inside of text files

    - by Matt
So here is the situation. I currently run a mail server for my small non-profit company. My mail server (Merak Mail Server) keeps logs in .log files and mail as .tmp files. Essentially these are just text files that are kept on the server. Problem is that when I put text into the "Containing text" field on Windows Explorer, it always misses the files and tells me no results returned. Then when I search the files one by one (painful at best), I find the files I need. Do I not understand the search feature well enough, or maybe I have it indexing wrong. I really don't care what I need to use to search the files, even a third-party app is fine with me, I just want to type an email address into a box and search all of my log files or email files and find out which one I am looking for. It can be Windows Search or something else, as long as I can find a way to get the job done I will be happy. Pay solutions are fine as well. Thanks everyone in advance.

  • Nginx proxy with Redmine SVN authentication.

    - by Omegaice
I am attempting to setup a system where I have an nginx server running as a reverse proxy for multiple websites that I want to run. To separate the websites I have created a Linux container which contains each site to allow me to reduce conflicts in database usage etc. I am currently trying to get my main site working and have nginx with passenger setup and connecting to redmine and I have an Apache install specifically setup for serving the SVN over HTTP and am attempting to use the redmine authentication with that. I have set everything up as described in the redmine howtos, but when I check a project out from the SVN it always works even if the project is private and whenever I try and commit to the repositories it fails saying "Could not open the requested SVN filesystem", the Apache error log related to that event is "(20014)Internal error: Can't open file '/srv/rcs/svn/error/format': No such file or directory". If I take out the redmine authentication I can checkout and check-in repositories fine but there is no authentication. Does anyone have any ideas? Edit I tried to solve this problem another way by attempting to have the authentication work by LDAP, I managed to get it so that my user could log into the redmine website but as soon as I tried to check anything out it said that access was forbidden to the repository.

  • POST Fail via AJAX Request?

    - by Jascha
I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. This is kind of a repost (submitted to stackoverflow, but maybe a server issue?). I am running a javascript log out function called logOut() that has make a jQuery ajax call to a php script... function logOut(){ var data = new Object; data.log_out = true; $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'http://www.mydomain.com/functions.php', data: data, success: function() { alert('done'); } }); } the php function it calls is here: if(isset($_POST['log_out'])){ $query = "INSERT INTO `token_manager` (`ip_address`) VALUES('logOutSuccess')"; $connection->runQuery($query); // <-- my own database class... // omitted code that clears session etc... die(); } Now, 18 hours out of the day this works, but for some reason, every once in a while, the POST data will not trigger my query. (this will last about an hour or so). I figured out the post data is not being set by adding this at the end of my script... $query = "INSERT INTO `token_manager` (`ip_address`) VALUES('POST FAIL')"; $connection->runQuery($query); So, now I know for certain my log out function is being skipped because in my database is the following data: if it were NOT being skipped, my data would show up like this: I know it is being skipped for two reasons, one the die() at the end of my first function, and two, if it were a success a "logOutSuccess" would be registered in the table. Any thoughts? One friend says it's a janky hosting company (hostgator.com). I personally like them because they are cheap and I'm a fan of cpanel. But, if that's the case??? Thanks in advance. -J

  • Apache logging issues

    - by Dan
    I'm trying to parse apache log files, but I'm finding some strange results and I'm not sure what they mean. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. (all of the IP addresses were altered. none actually start with 192, I didn't figure the search engines mattered though.) In the first example, multiple ip addresses are showing up in the host field: 192.249.71.25 - - [04/Aug/2009:04:21:44 -0500] "GET /publications/example.pdf HTTP/1.1" 200 2738 192.0.100.93, 192.20.31.86 - - [04/Aug/2009:04:21:22 -0500] "GET /docs/another.pdf HTTP/1.0" 206 371469 What causes this? Does it have to do with proxy servers? Is there a way to have Apache only log one? In the second example, a bunch of information is just completely missing! What would cause this? msnbot-65-55-207-50.search.msn.com - - [29/Dec/2009:15:45:16 -0600] "GET /publications/example.pdf HTTP/1.1" 200 3470073 "-" "msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)" 266 3476792 - - - - "-" - - "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; InfoPath.1)" 285 594 - - - - "-" - - "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; InfoPath.1)" 285 4195 - - - - "-" - - "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; InfoPath.1)" 299 109218 crawl-17c.cuil.com - - [29/Dec/2009:15:45:46 -0600] "GET /publications/another.pdf HTTP/1.0" 200 101481 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Twiceler-0.9 http://www.cuil.com/twiceler/robot.html)" 253 101704 My CustomLog configuration says: LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-agent}i\" %I %O" common

  • Windows Share authentication from Active Directory Linux login

    - by Kenny
I'm using Active Directory to log into RHEL. To do this, I followed the steps outlined here: http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/2007/05/using-active-directory-to-authenticate-users-on-a-linux-computer.htm I'd like to be able to read data from Windows Servers shared folders without being prompted for a password. On Windows I log into an AD domain, and when I access windows file shares on a server on the LAN (also part of the AD domain) my I can just access them with no authentication step. I've used SMBclient on Linux to access these shares, but it asks for my password. I would like to be able to script access to the data on the shares, but I can't if there's a password prompt in the way. Well, I could, but it's not how I want to do it. Now, since I'm logged in using my active directory username & password, can't I just access the shares without jumping that extra hoop? I know I can mount the share using something like: //192.168.0.5/share /mnt/windows cifs auto, username=steve, password=secret,rw 0 0 but access will depend who is logged in... each user logging in should have their own unique AD access privelages. Thanks for reading!

  • Can't seem to get python to work

    - by Justin Johnson
I'm just starting out in Python. The Python interpreter works from the command line (I have 2.4.3), but I can't seem to get Apache to execute Python scripts. All I end up with is a blank screen and nothing in the Apache error logs. I enabled Python via the Plesk control panel. Here's the snippet that was generated in the httpd.include: <Files ~ (\.py$)> SetHandler python-program PythonHandler mod_python.cgihandler </Files> My test script is one of the examples that comes with the Python downloads at http://python.org/download/ #!/usr/local/bin/python """CGI test 1 - check server setup.""" # Until you get this to work, your web server isn't set up right or # your Python isn't set up right. # If cgi0.sh works but cgi1.py doesn't, check the #! line and the file # permissions. The docs for the cgi.py module have debugging tips. print("Content-type: text/html") print() print("<h1>Hello world</h1>") print("<p>This is cgi1.py") That wasn't working, so I changed #!/usr/local/bin/python to #!/usr/bin/python which is what which python tells me but the results were the same. Like I said, I'm ending up with a blank page. No errors that I know of, unless I'm checking the wrong error log (I'm checking the Apache error log). I'm on a MediaTemple (dv) running CentOS.

  • Rsync when run in cron doesnt work. Rsync between Mac Os x Server and Linux Centos

    - by Brady
I have a working rsync setup between Mac OS X Server and Linux Centos when run manually in a terminal. I enter the rsync command, it asks for the password, I enter it and off it goes, runs and completes. Now I know thats working I set out to fully automate it via cron. First off I create an SSH authorized key by running this command on the Mac server: ssh-keygen -t dsa -b 1024 -f /Users/admin/Documents/Backup/rsync-key Entering the password and then confirming it. I then copy the rsync-key.pub file accross to the linux server and place in the rsync user .ssh folder and rename to authorized_keys: /home/philosophy/.ssh/authorized_keys I then make sure that the authorized_keys file is chmod 600 in the folder chmod 700. I then setup a shell script for cron to run: #!/bin/bash RSYNC=/usr/bin/rsync SSH=/usr/bin/ssh KEY=/Users/admin/Documents/Backup/rsync-key RUSER=philosophy RHOST=example.com RPATH=data/ LPATH="/Volumes/G Technology G Speed eS/Backup" $RSYNC -avz --delete --progress -e "$SSH -i $KEY" "$LPATH" $RUSER@$RHOST:$RPATH Then give the shell file execute permissions and then add the following to the crontab using crontab -e: 29 12 * * * /Users/admin/Documents/Backup/backup.sh I check my crontab log file after the above command should run and I get this in the log and nothing else: Feb 21 12:29:00 fileserver /usr/sbin/cron[80598]: (admin) CMD (/Users/admin/Documents/Backup/backup.sh) So I asume everything has run as it should. But when I check the remote server no files have been copied accross. If I run the backup.sh file in a terminal as normal it still prompts for a password but this time its through the Mac Key chain system rather than typing into the console window. With the Mac Key Chain I can set it to save the password so that it doesnt ask for it again but Im sure when run with cron this password isnt picked up. This is where I'm asuming where rsync in cron is failing because it needs a password to connect but I thought the whole idea of making the SSH keys was to prevent the use of a password. Have I missed a step or done something wrong here? Thanks Scott

  • Disabled FRS replication on a DFS link, but the targets still list the replica set in their FRS conf

    - by Graeme Donaldson
It's been a while since I've had to deal with the wonders of FRS, so I'm doing some testing to refresh my memory. This is what I've done so far. I am stuck with FRS rather than DFS-R for the moment since not all of my link targets are running R2. Created a domain-based DFS root, hosted on 4 servers. Created a DFS link under the root, targeted at 2 servers. The shares on both servers were empty. Dropped about 500MB of data into the target folder on one server and waited for replication to complete. Added/removed/modified files on both targets and confirmed that changes are replicated within a few seconds. Deleted the contents of the target folder on 1 server and waited for the other server to replicate the deletion. All of this worked perfectly, so now I want to remove my DFS link since I only created it for testing purposes. This is where it gets weird. I'm pretty sure that in the past I've disabled replication on the DFS link and after a short amount of time each target would log an info event in the FRS event log, something along the lines of "this server is no longer a member of replica set X". I have waited about 3 hours and I haven't seen this happen. ntfrsutl ds tells me that the server is not a member of any set, which is expected because when I disable replication on the link, the AD attributes on the computer object are removed. The weird part is... ntfrsutl sets still shows me the replica set, with all the properties, etc. So it seems like the FRS-related attributes of the target server's AD object are gone, but the FRS service for some reason hasn't removed the replica set. Can anyone see what I have done wrong?

  • Unicenter Software Delivery 4 not able to connect to MS SQL 2000 Database after W2003 SP2 upgrade

    - by grub
Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database. Should I deinstall the unicenter service and make a fresh installation on the server or should I remove the Windows Server 2003 SP2? I don't want to remove the SP2 because it's a requirement for WSUS3 SP2 and I really don't want to know how many possible exploits are possible in such an old system ;-) Thank you very much and have a nice day. • Munin with postgresql 9.2

    - by jreid9001
I am trying to set up Munin to collect stats on a server with postgresql 9.1 and 9.2 (the server is currently running 9.1, have tested on a fresh VM with 9.2 to rule out some weird problem on the running server. I had to patch some of the plugins for 9.2 due to renamed columns (e.g. procpid to pid), but that's no problem). Munin is installed from the EPEL repos, postgres from the official one. Both up to date. When I try to run munin-node-configure --suggest, I get this output: # The following plugins caused errors: # postgres_bgwriter: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_cache_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_checkpoints: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_connections_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_connections_db: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_locks_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_querylength_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_scans_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_size_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_transactions_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_tuples_: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_users: # Junk printed to stderr # postgres_xlog: # Junk printed to stderr After a lot of searching around, I edited /etc/munin/plugin-conf.d/munin-node and added the following: [postgres*] user postgres This stops munin-node-configure complaining about stderr and lets me add the plugins, but when I telnet to the server on 4949 and try to fetch the stats, I just get "Bad exit". When I run the plugin individually via munin-run (e.g. munin-run postgres_size_ALL ), it works completely fine. Looking at /var/log/munin/munin-node.log, this is the output: Error output from postgres_size_ALL: DBI connect('dbname=template1','',...)failed: could not connect to server: Permission denied Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"? at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Munin/Plugin/Pgsql.pm line 377 Service 'postgres_size_ALL exited with status 1/0. I am now out of ideas... the socket definitely exists, and pg_hba.conf is set to allow all users/databases from localhost with trust.

  • How to troubleshoot Hyper-V VSS writer causing backup failure on Server 2008 R2

    - by Tim Anderson
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine running Hyper-V. Backups using Windows Server Backup fail with the error: The backup operation that started at '?2011?-?01?-?02T10:37:01.230000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved. I have traced this to a problem with the Hyper-V VSS writer. vssadmin list writers reports: Writer name: 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' Writer Id: {66841cd4-6ded-4f4b-8f17-fd23f8ddc3de} Writer Instance Id: {fcf0dd79-d282-4465-88ae-7b6857e055c2} State: [8] Failed Last error: Inconsistent shadow copy However I can't get any further. A few relevant facts: I get the error even if all the VMs are shut down If I disable the Hyper-V VSS Writer by stopping the Hyper-V Management Service backup completes OK There are no errors in the Hyper-V-VMMS application log I tried to set tracing for VSS but can't get any output for some reason. I set the correct registry entries but no trace log is generated. Tim

  • Does Windows 7 Authenticate Cached Credentials on Startup

    - by Farray
Problem I have a Windows domain user account that gets automatically locked-out semi-regularly. Troubleshooting Thus Far The only rule on the domain that should automatically lock an account is too many failed login attempts. I do not think anyone nefarious is trying to access my account. The problem started occurring after changing my password so I think it's a stored credential problem. Further to that, in the Event Viewer's System log I found Warnings from Security-Kerberos that says: The password stored in Credential Manager is invalid. This might be caused by the user changing the password from this computer or a different computer. To resolve this error, open Credential Manager in Control Panel, and reenter the password for the credential mydomain\myuser. I checked the Credential Manager and all it has are a few TERMSRV/servername credentials stored by Remote Desktop. I know which stored credential was incorrect, but it was stored for Remote Desktop access to a specific machine and was not being used (at least not by me) at the time of the warnings. The Security-Kerberos warning appears when the system was starting up (after a Windows Update reboot) and also appeared earlier this morning when nobody was logged into the machine. Clarification after SnOrfus answer: There was 1 set of invalid credentials that was stored for a terminal server. The rest of the credentials are known to be valid (used often & recently without issues). I logged on to the domain this morning without issue. I then ran windows update which rebooted the computer. After the restart, I couldn't log in (due to account being locked out). After unlocking & logging on to the domain, I checked Event Viewer which showed a problem with credentials after restarting. Since the only stored credentials (according to Credential Manager) are for terminal servers, why would there be a Credential problem on restart when remote desktop was not being used? Question Does anyone know if Windows 7 "randomly" checks the authentication of cached credentials?

  • Postfix relay gives error 450 while it should be 550

    - by dieter-be
Hi, we use postfix to do relaying. We get several messages like the following in /var/log/mail (slightly edited) Apr 13 13:30:29 linserver postfix/smtpd[1064]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[$ip]: 450 4.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: undeliverable address: host domain.be [$ip] said: 550 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table (in reply to RCPT TO command); from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<BLUESTREAK.domain.local> Now, when the master mail servers gives a 550, claiming that the user does not exist, I want the relay to also give a 550 back. What happens now is that it seems to return a 450, causing clients to keep messages queued, keep trying and only notify users after a certain period has passed. According to what I could find, the soft_bounce could cause this. But we have not enabled this option (and by default it's off according to postfix docs) It might also have something to do with the *_reject_code postconf values. Especially since the log message complains the unknown ip. But as you can see in the postconf output below, smtpd_sender_restrictions and smtpd_client_restrictions are empty. So even if it would try to do any restrictions there, 550 is the "worst" error going on, so that's what I expect to be returned to the client. postconf: http://sprunge.us/JYgB Thanks, Dieter

  • Why I am getting "Problem loading the page" after enabling HTTPS for Apache on Windows 7?

    - by Anish
I enabled HTTPS on the Apache server (2.2.15) Windows 7 Enterprise by uncommenting: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-ssl.conf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd.conf and modifying C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd-ssl.conf to include: DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs" ServerName myserver.com:443 ServerAdmin [email protected] ... SSLCertificateFile "SSLCertificateFile "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/cert.pem SSLCertificateKeyFile "SSLCertificateFile "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/key.pem" Then I restart apache (going to start-All Progranms-Apache Server 2.2-Control-restart) and go to localhost on port 443 in Firefox , where I get: Index of / Index of / Links/ ..... .... But on Display of WebPage I see: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. *The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. *If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network onnection. *If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I read: Why am I getting 403 Forbidden after enabling HTTPS for Apache on Mac OS X? and added default web server configuration block to match my DocumentRoot The error Log C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\logs\error.log gives following error: The Apache2.2 service is running. (OS 5)Access is denied. : Init: Can't open server certificate file C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/cert.pem I checked the permissions for cert.pem and it indicates: All the permissions (Full control, Read, Read and modify, execute, Write) are marked for Admin and I am currently logged in as Admin. I tried using oldcert.pem and oldkey.pem on the same server and it works fine. Is there anything that I missed?

  • Windows Share authentication from Active Directory Linux login

    - by Kenny
Hi, I'm using Active Directory to log into RHEL.

  • location of index.html CentOS 6

    - by user2118559
Based on this http://www.servermom.com/how-to-add-new-site-into-your-apache-based-centos-server/454/ tutorial installed Apache-based CentOS Server I use putty.exe as editor vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf at very bottom modified to <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /var/www/fikitipis.com/public_html ServerName www.fikitipis.com ServerAlias fikitipis.com ErrorLog /var/www/fikitipis.com/error.log CustomLog /var/www/fikitipis.com/requests.log common </VirtualHost> So expect that index is at /var/www/fikitipis.com/public_html When in browser type ip address of server, see Apache 2 Test Page powered by CentOS and so on You may now add content to the directory /var/www/html/ Then [root@vps ~]# ls /var/www/ see cgi-bin domain.com error fikitipis.com html icons Checking content of directories ls /var/www/domain.com/public_html, ls /var/www/fikitipis.com/public_html, /var/www/html/ are empty Where is index.html? Did touch /var/www/fikitipis.com/public_html/index1.html then vi /var/www/fikitipis.com/public_html/index1.html, typed a, then wrote some text in file, then Escape and shift+zz. And in browser http://111.111.11.111/index1.html and see what I had wrote. So until now seems that all works

  • Possible DNS issue after a reinstall of Windows Server 2000 (get off my lawn)

    - by cop1152
I just replaced a drive on a Win2000 Server that replicates AD and issues out DHCP at one of our offices. I successfully joined it to the domain, setup range of IP's, etc, but am still having issues. I cannot RDC to it with name or IP. I can ping it, browse to it with Windows Explorer, and remote to it with some other software, but not RDC. The other issue is this: Users are unable to authenticate on it. They receive the message 'username or password incorrect' (or something like that). Changes made on the main domain controller seem to take forever to trickle down. The most significant entry in the DNS Server Log is Event ID 7062: The DNS Server Encountered a Packet Addressed to Itself. At least, I think its significant. The Directory Services Log shows numerous Event IDs 1265: The attempt to establish a replication link with parameters failed with the following status: The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure. Does this make any sense to anyone? I feel like its something very simple that I am overlooking. Thanks in advance.

  • Restrict SSH user to connection from one machine

    - by Jonathan
During set-up of a home server (running Kubuntu 10.04), I created an admin user for performing administrative tasks that may require an unmounted home. This user has a home directory on the root partition of the box. The machine has an internet-facing SSH server, and I have restricted the set of users that can connect via SSH, but I would like to restrict it further by making admin only accessible from my laptop (or perhaps only from the local 192.168.1.0/24 range). I currently have only an AllowGroups ssh-users with myself and admin as members of the ssh-users group. What I want is something that works like you may expect this setup to work (but it doesn't): $ groups jonathan ... ssh-users $ groups admin ... ssh-restricted-users $ cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config ... AllowGroups ssh-users [email protected].* ... Is there a way to do this? I have also tried this, but it did not work (admin could still log in remotely): AllowUsers [email protected].* * AllowGroups ssh-users with admin a member of ssh-users. I would also be fine with only allowing admin to log in with a key, and disallowing password logins, but I could find no general setting for sshd; there is a setting that requires root logins to use a key, but not for general users.
