• Why my custom CStatic derived control does not receive WM_SIZE message?

  Hello everyone! I'm currently developing a custom control that derives from CStatic MFC class (Smart Device C++ project). I have created the control class using VC++ MFC class wizard, selecting CStatic class as its base class. I have used Class View to add OnSize event handler for my control class (I have selected WM_SIZE message from messages list), and new OnSize method has been created by Visual Studio along with ON_WM_SIZE() statement between BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(...) and END_MESSAGE_MAP(). The problem is that my control does not receive WM_SIZE thus OnSize method is never called - I used MoveWindow to change size of my control - its size changes as I have seen on dialog window but WM_SIZE message is never being sent. When I send WM_SIZE through SendMessage or PostMessage function - the control OnSize method is called normally. What do I wrong? I've read MSDN docs about CStatic control and there is no information that WM_SIZE message is never sent to a static control window. Sorry for my bad English.

• Multiple Concurrent Postbacks when using UpdatePanels

  Here's an example app that I built to demonstrate my problem. This appears to contradict the documented behaviour of update panels (i.e. If you make a request while one is processing, the first requests gets terminated and the current one is processed). Anyway, the point is I want to fix it. The obvious option would be to use Javascript to disable the button after the first press, but that strikes me as hard to maintain, we potentially have the same issue on a lot of screens it could be easily broken if someone renames a button. Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps there is something I could do in BeginRequest in Global.asax to detect a duplicate request? Is there some setting or feature on the UpdatePanel to stop it doing this, or maybe something in the AjaxControlToolkit that will prevent it?

  OK, I'm new to this, so pardon if the question is already a FAQ. Searching multiple places still leaves me dumbfounded. I have a Web site generated with iWeb09/Mac hosting on an ISP. To secure certain pages, I am trying to set up .htaccess + .htpasswd files. The basic directory structure is ... Main index.html Images.html Images (some css, js stuff) Media Image01 Image01.jpeg ... Image02 Image02.jpeg ... I want to password protect access to the Images directory and all the files therein. The index.html file has a link to the Images.html file that contains the layout for the files in the Images directory. I have put a basic .htaccess file at the Main level that restricts access via ... <Files "Images.html"> AuthType Basic AuthName "Images" AuthUserFile /Main/.htpasswd AuthGroupFile /dev/null Require valid-user </Files> I have then created a valid .htpasswd file. All works at the start, however after the first call to set up the Images.html page, the secure login prompt is displayed multiple times, presumably once for every sub-sub-directory Images/Media/ImageXX (with multiple sub-directories, I just give up after two or three times). I have also tried placing the .htaccess file inside the Images directory with the same problem. Recommendations I have seen suggest a better convention is needed in the basic .htaccess file itself. Alternatively, perhaps a companion .htaccess is needed in the Images directory. So, how do I fix this problem? -- JJW

• Custom control doesn't fire validation

  I've written a custom ASP.net control that descends from LinkButton and overrides the Render() method. I'm using it to replace ImageButtons in the site I'm working on so we don't have to have an image for each button. This control works fine, does the required post-backs etc., however it doesn't fire the validators in its validation group. This is obviously an issue. • Arrow keys and changing control's focus hang the application

  I have a usercontrol that contains a FlowLayoutPanel (topdown flow) with a bunch of radiobuttons. The control exposes a CheckedChanged event that fires whenever one of the radiobuttons's check changed. My form contains the usercontrol and a textbox. I subscribe the usercontrol's CheckedChanged event and depending on which radiobutton gets checked, I either disable the textbox or put a focus inside the textbox. All this works fine with mouseclick when changing the radiobutton's check state. However, this will hang indefinitely when using the arrow keys. I don't understand why the difference. The following are steps to reproduce the behavior I'm seeing: Create a usercontrol and drop a FlowLayoutPanel control and set its FlowDirection = TopDown. Then add two radiobuttons to the FlowLayoutPanel. Provide an event handler in the usercontrol public event EventHandler CheckedChanged { add { radioButton2.CheckedChanged += value; } remove { radioButton2.CheckedChanged -= value; } } Create a windows form and drop the above user control. Add a textbox and set Enabled to False. Subscribe to the usercontrol's CheckedChanged event as follows private void userControl11_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { textBox1.Select(); } Run. Notice that if you use the mouse to click between the radiobuttons, thing works fine; but it will crash if you use the up/down arrow keys.

  I was reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1511798/threading-from-within-a-class-with-static-and-non-static-methods and I am in a similar situation. I have a static method that pulls data from a resource and creates some runtime objects based on the data. static class Worker{ public static MyObject DoWork(string filename){ MyObject mo = new MyObject(); // ... does some work return mo; } } The method takes awhile (in this case it is reading 5-10mb files) and returns an object. I want to take this method and use it in a multiple thread situation so I can read multiple files at once. Design issues / guidelines aside, how would multiple threads access this code? Let's say I have something like this... class ThreadedWorker { public void Run() { Thread t = new Thread(OnRun); t.Start(); } void OnRun() { MyObject mo = Worker.DoWork("somefilename"); mo.WriteToConsole(); } } Does the static method run for each thread, allowing for parallel execution?

• UIPickerView crashing when switching segemented control

  Hello, I have four NSDictionaries that I would like to use to populate a pickerview depending on a segemented control. With the code I have, the first segmented control/pickerview works fine but when I switch to the second segment the picker view only loads part of the second dictionary, that is it loads the same number of rows as it counted in the first dictionary. When I change the segmented control to the third or fourth segment it simply crashes with a sigabrt error indicating that it cannot index item43 when only 27 exist. This I suspect stems from a UItextfield population based on the upickerview row and object. • Persistent (purely functional) Red-Black trees on disk performance

  I'm studying the best data structures to implement a simple open-source object temporal database, and currently I'm very fond of using Persistent Red-Black trees to do it. My main reasons for using persistent data structures is first of all to minimize the use of locks, so the database can be as parallel as possible. Also it will be easier to implement ACID transactions and even being able to abstract the database to work in parallel on a cluster of some kind. The great thing of this approach is that it makes possible implementing temporal databases almost for free. And this is something quite nice to have, specially for web and for data analysis (e.g. trends). All of this is very cool, but I'm a little suspicious about the overall performance of using a persistent data structure on disk. Even though there are some very fast disks available today, and all writes can be done asynchronously, so a response is always immediate, I don't want to build all application under a false premise, only to realize it isn't really a good way to do it. Here's my line of thought: - Since all writes are done asynchronously, and using a persistent data structure will enable not to invalidate the previous - and currently valid - structure, the write time isn't really a bottleneck. - There are some literature on structures like this that are exactly for disk usage. But it seems to me that these techniques will add more read overhead to achieve faster writes. But I think that exactly the opposite is preferable. Also many of these techniques really do end up with a multi-versioned trees, but they aren't strictly immutable, which is something very crucial to justify the persistent overhead. - I know there still will have to be some kind of locking when appending values to the database, and I also know there should be a good garbage collecting logic if not all versions are to be maintained (otherwise the file size will surely rise dramatically). Also a delta compression system could be thought about. - Of all search trees structures, I really think Red-Blacks are the most close to what I need, since they offer the least number of rotations. But there are some possible pitfalls along the way: - Asynchronous writes -could- affect applications that need the data in real time. But I don't think that is the case with web applications, most of the time. Also when real-time data is needed, another solutions could be devised, like a check-in/check-out system of specific data that will need to be worked on a more real-time manner. - Also they could lead to some commit conflicts, though I fail to think of a good example of when it could happen. Also commit conflicts can occur in normal RDBMS, if two threads are working with the same data, right? - The overhead of having an immutable interface like this will grow exponentially and everything is doomed to fail soon, so this all is a bad idea. • XBAP Browser Control - Invoking Click event of the html Input type button

  Hi, Here is what I have. 1.XBAP application with WPF Browser control, hosted on Page1.xaml 2.XBAP in Full Trust, certificate installed in client browser 3.Once the XBAP loaded, the browser control is navigated to some third party site. 4.We are using MVVM for XAML stuff So, when a certain page is loaded, I attach click event handler to the input button with id="submit" on the html page displayed in the browser control (used the code similar to whats in this URL http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/a4f0e4d0-78bf-44c5-a3fe-8faf2e7a0568/). It works just fine as long as I dont make a wcf web service call in my ViewModel, before or after I attach this event hander. Idea is to invoke the click event for the html button and grab the data from the html page before calling the webservice to save data from the page. Here is the issue: When I make the wcf webservice call (sync or async, it doesnt matter) the click event doesnt happen but if I comment out the the code for wcf service call the click event of the html input of type button gets invoked.   I have a usercontrol which contains 2 repeaters and the code to populate them with data. If i manually insert this into the page then it works correctly, the repeaters populate etc. If I load it programatically using this method; 1) add class name to user control ClassName="ContentModule" 2) reference this in the default.aspx <%@ Reference Control="~/modules/content.ascx" %> 3) Add the code to my codebehind page_load to do the loading; Private loadmodule As ASP.ContentModule Try If themodule = "content" Then loadmodule = CType(LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx"), ASP.ContentModule) Modulecontainer.Controls.Add(loadmodule) End If Catch ex As Exception Response.Write(ex.ToString & "<br />") End Try Nothing from within the usercontrol is loaded to the page. Although if I add some static text i.e "TEST" to the top of the usercontrol this is displayed ok on the default.aspx page. This makes me think that the control is loaded ok, but there is something in the way I have loaded it that is causing the contents to not properly execute. Very frustrating this one! Any help greatly appreciated!

Initially based on some other treeView control selections made there shoud be no items in the context menu, but i wish to add dinamically items in ContextMenu based on selection in treeView. This part is done, the context has those items. On some selections there are no-items, but still on the grid it appears an empty ContextMenu. So I believe the easiest part it would be to bind the Visibility to Items.Count property of the same control. Sorry if my english is not good enought, I'll try to explain better if i didnt make clear 1st time.

  Hey, How is it possible to sort data from multiple tables by relevance? My table structure is following: I have 3 tables in my database, one table contains the name of solar systems, the second for e.g. of planets. There is one more table, witch is a connection between solar systems and planets. If I want to get data of a planet, witch is in the Milky Way, i post this data to the server, and it gives me a multi-dimensional array witch contains: The Milky Way, with every planet in it Every planet, witch name contains the string Milky Way (maybe thats a bat example because i don't think that theres but one planet with this name, but the main concept is on file) But, i want to set the most relevant restaurants to the top of the array. (for the relevance i would check the description of the restaurants or something like that) So, how would you do that kind of data sorting?

  I've created a form in php that collects basic information. I have a list box that allows multiple items selected (ie housing, rent, food, water). If multiple items are selected they are stored in a field called Needs seperated by a comma. I have created a report ordered by the persons needs. The people who only have one need are sorted correctly, but the people who have multiple are sorted exactly as the string passed to the database (ie. housing, rent, food, water) -- which is not what i want. Is there a way to seperate the multiple values in this field using SQL to count each need instance/occurance as 1 so that there are no comma delimitations shown in the results? CLICK FOR EXAMPLE

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with the ASP.NET 2.0 Login Control. I've setup a database with the aspI.net regsql tool. I've checked the application name. It is set to "/". The application can access the SQL Server. In fact, when I go to retrieve the password, it will even send me the password. Despite this, the login control continues to reject logins. I added this to the web.config: <membership defaultProvider="AspNetSqlProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="AspNetSqlProvider" connectionStringName="LocalSqlServer" applicationName="/" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> </providers> And I added the following to my connection strings: <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=IDC-4\EXCALIBUR;Initial Catalog=allied_nr;Integrated Security=True;Asynchronous Processing=True"/> (Note the "remove name" is to get rid of the default connection string in the App_Data directory.) • Parse multiple named command line parameters

  I need to add the ability to a program to accept multiple named parameters when opening the program via the command line. i.e. program.exe /param1=value /param2=value and then be able to utilize these parameters as variables in the program. I have found a couple of ways to accomplish pieces of this, but can't seem to figure out how to put it all together. I have been able to pass one named parameter and recover it using the code below, and while I could duplicate it for every possible named parameter, I know that can't be the preffered way to do this. I need to be able to pass a random subset of parameters each time. Ultimately, what I would like to be able to do, is separate each argument and value, and load it into a multidimentional array for later use. I know that I could find a way to do this by separating the string at the "=" and stripping the "/", but as I am somewhat new to this, I wanted to see if there was a "preffered" way for dealing with multiple named parameters?

  http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/models/fields/#choices i've read through the documentation and this implies using a database table for dynamic data, however it states choices is meant for static data that doesn't change much, if ever. so what if i want to use choices, but have it select multiple because the data i'm using is quite static, e.g days of the week. is there anyway to achieve this without a database table?

  Sorry if this is too simple, but thanks in advance for helping. This is for MySQL but might be relevant for other RDMBSs tblA has 4 columns: colA, colB, colC, mydata, A_id It has about 10^9 records, with 10^3 distinct values for colA, colB, colC. tblB has 3 columns: colA, colB, B_id It has about 10^4 records. I want all the records from tblA (except the A_id) that have a match in tblB. In other words, I want to use tblB to describe the subset that I want to extract and then extract those records from tblA. Namely: SELECT a.colA, a.colB, a.colC, a.mydata FROM tblA as a INNER JOIN tblB as b ON a.colA=b.colA a.colB=b.colB ; It's taking a really long time (more than an hour) on a newish computer (4GB, Core2Quad, ubuntu), and I just want to check my understanding of the following optimization steps. ** Suppose this is the only query I will ever run on these tables. So ignore the need to run other queries. Now my questions: 1) What indexes should I create to optimize this query? I think I just need a multiple index on (colA, colB) for both tables. I don't think I need separate indexes for colA and colB. Another stack overflow article (that I can't find) mentioned that when adding new indexes, it is slower when there are existing indexes, so that might be a reason to use the multiple index. 2) Is INNER JOIN correct? I just want results where a match is found. 3) Is it faster if I join (tblA to tblB) or the other way around, (tblB to tblA)? This previous answer says that the optimizer should take care of that. 4) Does the order of the part after ON matter? This previous answer say that the optimizer also takes care of the execution order.

All the fields doesn't belong to one table, the data will go to Customer table and CustomerPhone table, so i decided to do multiple inserts. I will insert appropriate data to CustomerPhone first then Insert the rest data to Customer table. Is it possible to Join an Insert OR Insert a Join? If show me a rough sample, i will be grateful. • asp.net mvc stand alone ascx control how do i link (css and js) most efficiently

  Hi, I need some advice. I have developed some asp.net mvc web pages. Each page has a master and some ascx controls (between 2 - 6) embedded into it a js and css file. Up to now every thing was fine. In order to improve modularity, flexibility and testability the ascx's are now expected to be able to work as stand alone controls. (Each ascx has also got its own css and js files in some cases it has another control inside it) In order to meet this requirement we call the controller with the relevant parameters and it returns the ascx (partial) directly to the browser without all of the other parts of the original page . In order to get it to display correctly (css) and act correctly (js/jquery) all of the relevant files need to be added (as links or scripts eg. href="<%= ResolveUrl(styleSheet)%>") to the user control. This is "contradicting" the concept of positioning the files at the most logical place (could be the master page for example). How can I overcome this problem? Keep in mind that this is relevant for each "control" ascx file. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
